And thanks for reading! I completely understand running out of steam after 10 rolls. I definitely feel the grind myself, but I guess this thread gets me to persevere.

And now for today's random roll!

    ROLL THE FIFTEENTH:
2 Luck of the Gambler: End/Rech (Recipe). -3
    Decimation: Acc/End/Rech (Recipe). 271,005
Touch of Death: Dam/End/Rech (Recipe). 1,800,005
    Mako's Bite: Acc/End/Rech (Recipe). 10,805

    THIS ROLL: 2,081,812
    FIFTEEN ROLL TOTAL: 940,550,068
    FIFTEEN ROLL AVERAGE: 62,703,338

COMMENTARY: The final numbers are in, and it's a bad roll. Only slightly below my target. It's interesting to see how one could pretty easily earn about 2 billion a month just from selling AM random roll recipes.

Yeah, the movie looks like the best superhero movie since The Dark Knight, but getting that fighting style to look cool and not hokey in live action is going to be very difficult.
  3. It's a bug so don't count on it sticking around forever.
  4. Either I'm crazy or people are discussing Tankers in the Brute forum.

And despite the pointlessness of trying to squeeze comic book characters into CoH Archetypes, Superman is definitely a Tanker. He is much more known for his ability to withstand damage than to deal it, and in fact works hard to restrain himself to keep from hurting people. Sounds like Tanker damage to me. But there's no right answer here, so I digress.

Kinetic Melee is a good Brute set, too. Compares very favorably with every other Brute primary.
  6. IMHO, directly purchasing recipes you're actually going to use is a good use of AMs. If you would rather put a number on it, look at the going market price of the recipe you want and compare it to the number of AMs it takes to purchase. A good rule of thumb would be 1 AM is worth somewhere around 72 million inf. If the recipe costs 1 AM and costs significantly more than that on the market, use the AM to get it. If it costs significantly less, use inf to get it. About the same, it's a judgement call. If there are none available on the market, use the AM.

These are all guidelines/suggestions of course, so do what works for you and what you feel comfortable with/rewarded by.

If you just want to accumulate inf, random-roll>craft>sell is most likely the optimal path. If you are a bit lazy like me and don't mind "losing" the extra 20 million inf per roll you would get by crafting, then just random-roll>sell.

5 AMs? I can no longer take you seriously. Good day to you, sir.
  8. Feeling guilty over play money is kind of silly. Also, it is not wise to deny a gift from the market gods. I hear tell of one poor soul who did so and now only receives Trap of the Hunters and Nightmares as drops. The market gods are often generous, but also often CRUEL!
  9. Daemodand

    Ok,

If 1 AM is worth about 72 million inf as my "I Hate the Market" experiment thread predicts so far, then 30 AMs translates to 2.16 billion inf. Yep, looks about dead-on to me. 35 AMs translates to 2.52 billion inf. Yes, that's about right.

    Devs did it right.

Those are very interesting, thanks for sharing them! I think I'll try them, but as I said I don't like completely altering sounds if I can help it, so we'll see if I like these better than the buzzing of the loud traditional glowie sound I'm using now.
  11. I don't usually post builds, but I like helping out a fellow MA/SRer so here's Daemodand's Body build (which is pretty much finalized).

Build notes based on the quirks of my play style:

I under-slotted Storm Kick. Gasp, I know. I like big orange numbers, and every other attack I took had bigger orange numbers, and I wanted the slots elsewhere, so there we are.

And yes, I have Elude on a softcapped build. It mules my 3% Res IO and does come in handy on occaision for mitigating AE custom critter craziness, help with stacked Nemesis Vengeances, Praetorian Devouring Earth (not the Quartzes, of course lol) and provides emergency Recovery on the rare occasion it's necessary.

I went Musculature. Did I mention I like big orange numbers? I'll eventually have an SOs worth of extra damage from Musculature in addition to the +Damage in the build. If you go Spiritual instead, the one with the Stun boost works very nicely with SR.

I don't like the Medicine Pool for SR. At the softcap, the things that'll kill you are the big hitters from Bosses (or even multiple Bosses) getting a very low roll. Medicine Pool will not save you there. Everything else is not a threat, making Medicine useless. Trust in the dice! Trust your secondary!

The build is expensive. Alignment Merits means it isn't as expensive as you think. It's even less expensive if you wimp out and don't get a 3% PvP Def IO and 3% Res IO (you'll still be at just above 45% Defense without them, but the Res IO mitigates those killer Boss hits and the 3% Def means you'll never go below 45% Defense again).

    Code:

  12. Thanks for the attempt Zombie Man! File didn't work for me, though.

I think the one I have is good enough, but I might make a new 12dB version of it to make it a bit more reasonable sounding.

One issue I noticed with any glowie sound is you have to be within a set range of the glowie for the sound to trigger at all.
  13. And now for today's random roll!

    ROLL THE FOURTEENTH:
Aegis: +Psionic and Mez Resist (Recipe). V9,995
Gift of the Ancients: +7.5% Run Speed (Recipe). V9,995
    Devastation: Dam/Rech (Recipe). PENDING
    Freebird: +Stealth (Recipe). V9,995
    Ghost Widow's Embrace: Acc/Hold/Rech (Recipe). V9,995

    THIS ROLL: 39,980 PENDING
    FOURTEEN ROLL TOTAL: 938,468,256
    FOURTEEN ROLL AVERAGE: 67,033,446

COMMENTARY: I've just redefined how low a low roll can go lol. Still right on target, so I'm not worried. Devastations are going for around 200K, so when it comes in it'll have zero effect on this crap roll.
  14. Well, I went ahead and did it myself out of curiosity. Increase of 15 dB makes it a tad aesthetically unappealing but very easily detected. I'll see if I can live with it. The sound gets raspy very quickly with any increase in dB, making it difficult to find a happy medium between convenience and aesthetics.

I tried the above destructible path with no success (tested in the "destroy sky raiders lab" tip mission).

Also, this is one of the two uses for Stalkers I've found in PvE.*

    *Note: I play Stalkers.

Questions are the beginning of knowledge and wisdom. Your question is a very good and valid one.

And 1 Alignment Merit is worth 100 Reward Merits. Far more than that if you consider you can buy things with them you'd never be able to with RMs.
  16. Other recent superhero movies have had a problem with taking the source material seriously (especially Green Hornet and apparently Green Lantern; Thor seems to take its source material seriously, but the previews have made it seem chintzy) but this one seems to be taking it seriously and so is looking very, very good.

P.S. Speaking of shield throwing, I wonder if we didn't get Shield Charge instead due at least in part to concerns over being a bit too much like Cap?
  17. I thought she was already dead, and she was only 79?

I did have the pleasure of reading the book on raising chipmunks she wrote when she was a teen/young adult. Her method for capturing them was to grab them and let them bite her until they stopped biting her. Perhaps the single-most charming book I've ever read. I didn't particularly like her before reading it, but came to appreciate her on a certain level after.

That's very cool, but I'd just prefer a louder version of the sound as I don't like completely altering the sounds in the game as I feel there is some disruption of the integrity of the game's experience, but simply making a sound louder or softer, especially out of near-necessity, doesn't give me that same feeling of disruption. If that makes sense.

I'm hoping someone has a traditional-but-louder-glowie sound lying around they wouldn't mind linking.

P.S. And that glowie sound-alike in those mission entrances always gets me thinking, "Oh, a glowie!" Been playing for 5ish years and still do that lol.
  19. I wish I didn't read this thread now because I really notice every time my Tankers miss now. Damn you confirmation bias!
  20. There are parts of your body I wish I could unsee, but damn, that tat is hard core. It'll be fun trying to explain it when you're 60.
  21. I've gotten tired of not being able to hear glowies. Does anyone have a louder glowie ogg they can link me to?
  22. What I like about Axe/FA is your Axe can now do Fire damage thanks to Fiery Embrace. That is cool, and IMHO, makes up for any damage lost to redraw.

P.S. I didn't like Axe under the old Fury, but under the new one Axe is fine for Fury generation.

Mine's a speedster too! *secret handshake*

It's been said in this thread SR has no synergy with KM, but this isn't true. Quickness helps get Siphon back more quickly, and it helps to get your attacks to stack their effects. The -Damage in KM goes very well with the scaling Resists of SR. It's a solid pairing. KM/INV will mature sooner, but KM/SR will get better damage output and still have amazing survivability in the late game.

SR also is the best Brute secondary at mitigating slows (both by dodging them, and then mitigating the few that do hit by 40%). That's a neat little feature of SR you rarely hear about. You also get ghetto Endurance drain resistance because most Endurance drains have to hit to affect you (Sappers and Carnival mobs have to make positional hit rolls for the drain effects, and that includes the Ring Mistresses since their -Recovery debuff is Ranged).
  24. Fiery Aura vs Fire attack mobs. Am I supposed to be impressed? Perhaps you can clarify the point of the vid?

    psst... Random is random.
While you're quite right, let me explain myself. The roll system is random, but not totally chaotic. If you roll a 6-sided die and roll a one, could you have a reasonable expectation that the next roll would most likely be higher than 1?

Yes, the second roll is more likely to be higher than 1 than equal to it. That's my line of thinking in such comments as predicting the next roll in a system of random rolls. When you get a known low roll, it is more likely that one of the higher rolls will show up on the next roll, just like on that 6-sided die.

    Quote:
Wow. That 9th roll was epic. And all auctioned at 1inf?
Thanks BackFire! The reality is, something truly valuable will always sell for what it is really worth. It's the marginal items that can go for 100 million or 1. You'll note that I have been burned in this experiment by those very marginals, but they pay off at least as often.

And now for today's random roll!

    ROLL THE "LUCKY" THIRTEENTH:
    2 Mako's Bite: Acc/End/Rech (Recipe). 46,810
    Analyze Weakness: Acc/End/Rech (Recipe). 135,005
    Kinetic Combat: Dam/End/Rech (Recipe). 126,076,505
Obliteration: Chance for smashing damage (Recipe). 23,400,005

    THIS ROLL: 149,658,325
    THIRTEEN ROLL TOTAL: 938,428,276
    THIRTEEN ROLL AVERAGE: 72,186,790

COMMENTARY: I expected better prices out of those Bites, but given the rest of the roll, I can't complain. Kinetic Combats are worth their weight in inf. I'm still right around my target, with some buffer for a bad roll or two.
