    Ice/SS Build

    [threadjack]

Hehehehe... It would be stupid to start a new topic on ice/SS tanks so might as well do a slight threadjack here.

So, I'm planning on kitting out my ice/SS with IOs now that with I13 changes it'll be really nice for PvP. Thing is I also want to keep most of the PvE utility so I ended up with a hybrid build. Not expecting it to be the very best for PvP but looking at the numbers it should work well for PvE.

There are some oddball power choices such as Hurl but it has quite good damage in PvP. And it's a ranged attack. Sounds good to me...

    Anyways, here's the build

  2. What's with the fuss about capes anyway? I rarely do the cape mish the instant I hit 20. Usually it's anywhere between 20 to 50 when I have time/no arcs going/I'm bored. Same with auras, except that I usually do their respective mish somewhere in the 30-40 bracket.

I always make the first costume of a character go well without a cape and I dont do the cape mish (or any extra costume mishes) until I have an idea of a costume that looks good with a cape.

    Just my 2 cents though..

Damage is OK but not great

    [/ QUOTE ]
Didnt really expect great damage. I got 2 lvl 50 defenders and neither of them does "great" damage.

    [ QUOTE ]
From a positional standpoint it can be a bit annoying.
Fearsome stear is a cone so you need to be in front of the mob and Irradiate is centered around you so you have to be in the middle of the mob. They're 2 of the best powers and have quite a short recharge so you find yourself continually moving in and out of melee - not the end of the world but as I said a bit annoying

    [/ QUOTE ]
I dont mind this really. On most of my alts with ranged and melee attacks I do this anyway, standing still isnt the way I fight unless I'm playing a scrapper or a tank.

    [ QUOTE ]
In regards to your build I'd try to squeeze in Recall Friend. You've got a team rez (Howling Twilight)so the ability to gather fallen allies to you can save a team wipe.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Would have to drop a power pool for that which I dont think will happen. Besides, I'm most probably using HT as a stun to start a fight with. So nah, they'll have to learn to stick close to me for heals if they want to stay alive. I'm not a healer anyway.

    [ QUOTE ]

on my sonic/rad i´m going for 5 analyze weakness and a achilles

    [/ QUOTE ]
Mmmm... But I can reliably get all the enemies into -60% def (Irradiate, Haze, Bomb) so I think I'll stick to damage and achilles proc.

    [ QUOTE ]
and i wanna get to lvl 50 asap

    [/ QUOTE ]

What for? PLing only results in people with NO SKILLZ who get NO KILLZ.

  7. Well... It does -37.5% def base. And I have 2 other -def AoEs to stack with it so I doubt it actually needs any Def Debuff enhancements.

Anyway, if I were to slot it with Def DeBuff I'd probably throw a couple of damage procs in it too.

How'd you slot it for decent set bonuses / Def DeBuff (and decent damage) in mind?
  8. Getting the slots in HPT is absolutely essential. Dropping 3 or 4 slots which gain you maybe 1.5% maxHP bonus will be worth it. 3 slotting HPT with generic heal IOs gives you 10% +maxHP.
  9. I've always wanted to try Dark Miasma and Rad Blast. I toyed with Mid's and noticed these two sets go together quite well with Rad Blast plugging the -def hole of Dark Miasma.

Also the control options of this combination look really nice. A lot of -ToHit to keep NPCs from hitting my team, Fear + KB cones to keep the enemy cowering in fear or on their backsides and Tar Patch to keep them away from melee, preferably in a corner to abuse KB and also -Res for more damage.

Also I think I should be quite safe in melee to use Irradiate with all the protection Dark offers me.

I picked Psy Mastery for 2 reasons, Dominate (works as a decent attack with hold) and Mind Over Body which just looks cool

Anyways, am I completely mislead or is this powerset combo actually as good as I think?

EDIT: Think I should add, Howling Twilight is slotted as a mez. I like to think of it with a stun/-regen power with the added side effect of rezzing nearby teammates

    Here's the build I'm thinking of;

  10. I think you could get better results with that amount of money used. You got sort of random bonuses in there, try to get more +regen in there. +HP too if you arent going to use DP perma.

Remove the res/rechg aegis in unstop for a rechg

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not needed really, and that's the current slotting on unstoppable I have.

Put a chance for rechg in kick

    [/ QUOTE ]
I never use kick, would be a waste.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Consider taking out the kismet

    [/ QUOTE ]
Nah, you cant have too much +tohit

slotting DA for offense and until +rechg with more crushing impacts.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'll need to figure out an attack chain before I do any changes to DA. I kind of like the idea of having soft capped lethal with 1 application and soft capped melee with 2.

    [ QUOTE ]
Psi res in energies is optional.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Could do this if I replaced the Dam/End in SoTW/GC (whichever I end choosing) with an Achilles -res proc.
  12. Having played both of these sets up to 50 I can pretty much agree on everything you said about WP. The lvl 50 MA/WP I have has 0 debt badges at 50. Or at maximum the first one. I think I could count with 1 hand the amount of times I was defeated in the course of 50 levels.

SS on the other hand... Might just be due to the nature of an ice/SS tank I felt using rage (without +rech bonuses anyway) needed to be thought out business. -25% DEF is fatal to an un-IO'd ice tank. I do see your point though, when SS is combined with a set that does not lean almost 100% on defense.

Respec, get the power pool taunts. Should help with your unfortunate situation.

    This, if nothing else helps!

    no blinds

    QR

If the person sending me a blind is too lazy to inform me of at least the level of their team I wont be taking the trouble of finding out their level.

I just think it shows a lack of manners if you wont ask someone first before sending an invite. It's pretty much like giving someone an empty piece of paper and not telling them what you want them to do with it.

As someone has said, if you dont show respect you should expect arrogant responses.
  15. You dont need Divine Avalanche if you're at def soft cap. At this stage basically all it offers is a bad/mediocre single target attack.

EDIT: looking at the build I'd tell you to drop Retsu too. I'd keep Shadow Meld for extreme cases of def debuff because it recharges fast and doesnt have an end crash.
  16. To be honest, I'm quite surprised that no one except TRT has had any comments on this so far.

I'm pretty settled on this build now (will swap the Crushing Impact's Dam/End into Achilles' -res proc), just trying to decide between Sting of the Wasp and Gambler's Cut. Trying to find an optimal attack chain for DPS but havent had much luck so far.
  17. For an AV soloing brute I suggest FM/SR. Those are the sets I have on my AV soloing scrapper.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
and LOTS of other reasons not to do this at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. Why make life harder than it should be?
  19. I couldnt go shopping today because someone hit me with Calm Wind for 56.7 points of damage and it resulted in me no longer walking!. Then I respawned in my bed.

I tried going outside 3 times already but it wont work. Bugged or WAI?

  20. DSorrow

    New SR

You could argue on that. The build has a lot of attacks and all that recharge can by no means be needed. I run a 4-piece attack chain on a FM/SR scrapper with +15% rechg from set bonuses and no hasten. The build above has 7 attacks, 100% rech from bonuses, hasten and claws inherently have lower recharge rate.

Either drop attacks OR replace the recharge bonuses and hasten with something more useful.
  21. DSorrow

    New SR

Way too much +rech for the amount of attacks you have, not enough +HP or +Def.
  22. That might be it then. Going to try and elevate them a bit. Highest graphic settings so I guess that cant be it
  23. DSorrow

    Broadsword/Fire

If you slot parry adequately (2 def, 2 acc, 2 dam for example) 0 def is enough with double stacked parry.
  24. DSorrow

    Broadsword/Fire

Just get both of the fire shields and tough and slot them. Dont worry about positional defences, instead get +recovery, +regen and +rech. +HP isnt a bad choice either, although it doesnt make your heal stronger because it's defined by your base HP.

If you have problems surviving (dont take alphas!) with parry (double stack if needed), +HP, +regen, and a heal up every 15-20 seconds you're doing something wrong
