Quote:For a given value of "near Singapore", anyway. We don't have a lot of Near before you end up in Malaysian or Indonesian territory.I've heard that Australia's (and much of Oceania, for that matter) daily fluctuations in latency issues when connecting to other regions is largely due to the vast number of transoceanic lines that run through/near Singapore.
There's a vast armada of underused freight vessels constantly dropping anchor offshore (they anchor offshore while idle to avoid harbor fees), and they frequently damage the cables. They've got a huge but never-ending detect/find/patch operation going on there... and some of their temporary reroutes cause frequent router overload or just extra thousands of miles of transmission distance.
(And it's amazing what sort of conditions and regulations Singapore Telecoms will bring out if you want to lay a line around here.)
But yes, I think most Asian lines to the US through the trans-Pacific route run through Singapore and Hong Kong and maybe Japan before heading to the US. And anchor-damaged cables are a depressingly common occurrence. -
I know, from the repeated form responses from Support, that the people who usually handle Support requests are unable to override the Risk Management feature of the billing system. This, for those who are not aware, supposedly prevents "unauthorized credit or debit card or PayPal® account use."
But I would still like to request for someone sufficiently high up in the hierarchy to please, please take a look at ways for legitimate customers to get past this without having to keep escalating the issue.
The suggested solutions obviously do not work: trying different browsers (Firefox, IE, and Chrome) has already been done, and I've said as much, so please don't suggest it again. And it is not helpful to ask me to "wait for a later time" to try again when I wait up to one month and it still doesn't work. Having my billing date approach lends a sort of urgency to the situation. If nothing else, give a time frame of how long I have to wait for "later". One month? Two months? One year?
And when I get the error in the first place, it should not simply toss out a generic "Error processing transaction" message at me. This tells me nothing other than the transaction failing, for some mysterious reason.
Because it should not be this difficult to change my card details. Is it because I'm an international customer in Asia or something?
I am not happy with this, and I do feel the need to rant about it. Because I think this is simply not acceptable. -
I get the feeling I missed some kind of Drama. Again.
This seems to happen with a strange regularity in this subcommunity of CoH/V players. -
I'm having a bit of trouble with the implication that none of the character types and examples shown are considered Strong Female Characters.

Quote:Grav/FF Harry also didn't take the ally-only FF shield powers. Soloer? Although he did take Leadership. He does use telekinesis a few times which Grav would represent. Force Field is an obvious choice since he does seem to be good with shielding power. Finally note that he has the Fire Mastery epic for his fire blasts. Honestly the only option I could see that would fit better and is available now is a Fire/Energy/Force Blaster so it's probably a simple case of Jim Butcher (assuming that was him) selecting a powerset combo that is reasonably close and that he enjoys playing..

Found this in my screenshots folder.
Datestamped 2nd May 2009. I think I caught the screenshot just before the character logged off; I'm still kicking myself for not screenshotting the bio.
I have no idea why Harry Dresden (or at least this Harry Dresden) is Grav/FF.
EDIT: Screenshot taken on Virtue. -
Quote:Microwaving water just seems so weird to me, in the manner of, say, milk sold in bags. It's something along the lines of "huh, never thought about it like that... still can't wrap my head around it..." I know it probably does work, but it's not even on the list of what I'd think to do if I wanted to boil water.I decided to get an electric kettle after finding out that water heated in a microwave can explode. You can get a decent one for fairly cheap and they're faster than heating water on the stove. Works for me.
I have the Asian tendency to think of a meal as not being a real meal unless it has rice in it. With globalization this is obviously changing, but still. -
-
Personally I see my rice cooker as being essential to my kitchen, and an electric kettle about the same.
A coffee maker is very much optional.
So you can see where I'm coming from. (Asia, technically.) -
Quote:Since you've got so many things already, why not get an electric kettle so you have even more options? Also, as you might have inferred from the references to them, Americans, by not living in a third-world country like Europe(
), are able to own a microwave AND an oven (with stove!). So, we can make our food and drinks however we want, without an electric kettle (we can use a regular kettle, or just microwave the water if we're impatient, or, here's a novel idea, just boot up our coffee maker, since we're typically getting coffee).
And a rice cooker, while you're at it.
On-topic, anyone who thinks about adding sugar to oolong tea I will stare at. Very Orientally. -
Just caught the latest Zettai Karen Children OVA. It's not for those who just came from the anime, since it timeskips into the middle of the middle school arc in the manga.
Speaking of which, have I recommended Zettai Karen Children yet? If not, then here it is. If so, then I'm re-recommending it for being quite awesome. -
Quote:Not just the inf store, but if I remember correctly, back to his SG base to empty it out of large inspirations.I remember seeing that, as well as him mentioning repeated repeated repeated trips back to the insp store. It can be done. GM soloing is something the rich and the bored can afford.
I think that if anyone wants to spend the time, inf, and effort to take down a GM solo, they pretty much deserve the rewards they can get. -

Because I've seen too many threads on the forums complaining about how people who don't want to team anyway can still be found in searches.
I don't want to team for a variety of factors. I put myself on hide because apparently this is what I'm supposed to do for etiquette? I don't honestly know. -
While I get to legally watch some series US people can't get thanks to Animax on cable here in Singapore, I am locked out of Hulu and Crunchyroll content.
I see it as a net loss. -
I've always liked confronting, facing, opposing, defeating, and/or dealing with Archon Roget.

Quote:I got your PM, but you're set to not receive private messages.I brought the soundtrack and think it's brillant! Can't wait for Going Rogue to go live now! I got it from Amazon and am a UK resident so I would of thought anyone would of been able to download it.
In reply, though, thank you very much, and I'd love that. -
Dear NCSoft:
I would pay money for a non-DRMed (stating it to be safe) version of the soundtrack that is available in my area of Southeast Asia.
Especially since I'm not sure if I can solicit someone else living in the US to buy a copy for me. -
Quote:Dammit.
(Amazon MP3 purchases are limited to U.S. customers.) -
In my case, I felt that the forums were starting to impact my enjoyment of the game, since I invariably start reading with a smile and stop reading with an irritated frown at many of the posts I see.

Quote:Sometimes I wonder about the (very tiny) possibility that any of this controversy is intended, or at least taken advantage of.Will this kill WoW? I doubt it. We're going to see a continued existence of non-sanctioned forums for WoW players. And I'm sure that, much like this game, a good portion of the playerbase doesn't even use the forums anyways.
Will this kill the official WoW forums? Most likely.
If you make posting on the official forums unfeasible for information-gathering purposes (say, build advice), or for expressing opinions without getting drowned out, then people are likely to start posting in other forums what they would have posted on the official ones.
This results in exposure for the game, even if negative; other people see the game being talked about, get curious, and maybe get curious enough to try it out. (See our STO thread for examples.)
Of course, this doesn't always work, as forumless Tabula Rasa showed. (I think it was Tabula Rasa that CuppaJo got assigned to? Could have been Auto Assault.) -

Quote:That is a disaster waiting to happen... one small earthquake and... *shudders*Quote:Yeah, I read the article. I was commenting on the fact that it's supported by three towers. One small earthquake and you'll have a lot of wet rubble...Quote:One big earthquake is the mistake you're making here. Otherwise Los Angeles would be rubble several times a year.
We do know how to make tall buildings that are earthquake resistant, you know.Quote:Given the stringency with which Singapore enforce their rather strict laws, it would take a very brave cowboy builder to cut corners on this particular project...
The most we get are the mild tremors from the earthquakes nearby in Indonesia. All tall buildings (and we definitely know how to build tall buildings) are resistant to high wind speed, which helps with the resistance to tremors.
Having said that, our general reaction upon hearing of that thing more or less ran along the lines of "lolwut". -
Quote:It hit the crossbar, landed inside the line (clearly visible from video replays, not sure what the linesmen saw), and bounced out.Although that disallowed goal sounds damn criminal (I didnt watch it
)
I'm classifying it as "what might have been". (And I believe many Germany supporters are classifying it as "44-year old revenge".) Would it have made any difference? Who knows.
Of course, I support the Asian teams, so I'm no stranger to hopeless causes.
