  1. Yeah, you don't even need to download the client (although it's dead handy if you) you get the relevant code you need to apply to your normal account, just like buying the boxed edition.
  2. Yeah, but once you are up to date, Steam keeps you up to date by downloading and installing the patches for you when they become available if you leave Steam running.

The only thing it doesn't do is the big pre-issue downloads after you log out, but I can liv with that

  5. For those who don't know, just spotted on Facebook that our old tyrannical community leader Rockjaw is now working again for the Trion World Network on this game

    Heroes Of Talara

Looks like Yet Another Fantasy MMO, but I hope it does well for him, he was a good man whilst he worked here!
  6. .....dunno what you're talking about....nothing to see here.....this isn't the post you're looking for....move along....move along.....

dear gods, I'm on good form tonight

You lot don't think I actually READ the thread, do you??

Where would be the sense in that??

    STEAM question

Aside from the afore mentioned thing of adding a game manually, there are *some* games that be added to Steam if you already own it, via the serial code, although it's not a huge list and COH isn't on there yet.

Hopefully NCsoft will change things so that we can add them? That would be dead handy!

Sadly, I can't add Bioshock the same way either, which is annoying as I think my disc is scratched

    I miss .........

......far too much, I need to slot more for accuracy I think.

.....wait, I think I got this wrong
  10. Head to Union and check out the Handprints, busiest SG on the server
  11. Oh typical. Yet again the US get something that we could easily have gotten as well.

If all the devs can post over here as well, why couldn't the original post just have been cut and pasted here for us to post a question? I wouldn't have minded the answers being over there, at least we could ask and know it's being read.

    Bad form

    STEAM question

For what it's worth, it's worth downloading and running it va Steam. I did that, copied all the relevant back up files, like mission arcs, screenshots, bindfiles etc across to the right folder and play it from there. If you can leave your PC running online with Steam running, it automatically downloads and installs any patches and updates as they come up, so no more waiting for it to patch when a new issue comes out
  13. Interesting quote I found on the web in some random, unused forum somewhere...

    [ QUOTE ]
Farming - doing something repetetively for the reward (XP/drops/inf). For example, doing a mission but not completing it and then exiting and resetting over and over again, or street-hunting a certain villain type in a certain area. Repetition is key, if you're not doing the same thing over and over, it's not farming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Emphasis mine there.

Now, you see, by that definition, what the Handies do isn't farming as we don't do the same thing over and over, other than running regular task forces.....you know, for fun and because we like teaming as a group of friends.

And another one I found, same place...

    [ QUOTE ]
Grinding - Doing something for the reward it gives you, not because you actually enjoy doing it. For example, focussing solely on getting the KR jetpack on a new toon, doing newspaper missions so you can ding because you've outlevelled your contacts (grinding XP), or missioning to gather inf for a new encancement (grinding inf).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, emphasis mine there, but, again, as we enjoy doing these things, it can't even be considered grinding either.

And yeah, the Sg rank could be considered "sucky" but as it's the only ranking system in the game that is measurable, it's the only one we can use. Other SG's could easily argue they are more active, or have a bigger base or are better at PvP, but these are nigh on impossible to prove without a mountain of datamining anyway, so we'll just continue on, a good group of people who enjoy playing the game together, as a group, simply because we enjoy it
  14. Well, at least we're up front about it and 20k a month is not a lot, I've earnt in a single TF most times

    Don't really get your point.
    SG mode = farming?
We don't farm as most people understand it - but I don't quite get your definition.

[/ QUOTE ]when you go into SG mode you start getting prestige for the SG, so the moment you gain a prestige it was farmed as you had to take action to achieve the goal

    [/ QUOTE ]

......that has got to be the most lame [censored] definition of farming I've ever heard

Farming is repeatedly doing the same mission or action, over and over and over KNOWING it gives you a higher rate ofinf/prestige/drops than normal. The MA is a perfect example of farming, look at the vast majority of missions marked as farms, they almsot all contain things like Rikti Comms Officers as they give a higher rate of xp than anything else, that's why the xp farmers chose them.

If any member of the Handies (myself included) did play these sorts of missions and advertised it to the rest of the SG, they'd be kicked in a heartbeat, Von wants and has got an SG that wants to have fun and play in regular teams. I've been with them for over a year now and have had a great time whenever I've teamed with them!

The closest we've ever come to "farming" we've ever done is numerous runs of TF's, but it's never been the same TF night after night, we run them in constant rotation and even then in it's always in a different order!

To say that playing in SG mode is by definition farming is likely to get you a fair few comments on here to the contrary

I'm proud to be in the Handprints, they are a great bunch of people and I've had some great times teaming with them, especially when things have gone wrong and the superteams get their [censored] handed to them (which happens quite regularly, so I guess we're farming teamwipes as well then )

Long live the Handies, they deserve to be at the number one and number two spots
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
There's a fair few I've had to grind out, simply because I outlevelled them before I got them. Things like the Tsoo Mask badge I got by wandering a corner of Talos, waiting for night for them to spawn and trying to kill them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The problem you had was hunting Tsoo Masks rather than the badge-awarding BP Masks. Simple mistake to make.

    [/ QUOTE ]

.......look, if you're just going to use logic and common sense, I can't possibly talk to you!
  18. Yup, I can think iof a few live badges that should be changed under this philosophy as well....top tier heal/damage/inf badges for instance.

I'm proud to say that as a badge collector myself, there are very few that I have "farmed" for. There's a fair few I've had to grind out, simply because I outlevelled them before I got them. Things like the Tsoo Mask badge I got by wandering a corner of Talos, waiting for night for them to spawn and trying to kill them. The only one's I've really farmed for are things like the Toxic Tarantula badge, got about 50% of that in teams having to repeat missions to get the badge, but that's purely because, as a hero, it was the ONLY way to get it!

If they want to get down on badges that people use the wrong methods for, I can think of a few things to change. How about making it so that you time out of the game even in a mission map to prevent people doing the resting trick to get the damage badges? Or removing the heal points from the gladiator missions for the heal badges?

Or, you know, just make the amounts we need a little more sensible??

Of course, if we had a badge forum like the US players do, we could discuss this sort of stuff elsewhere and not clog up the MA forum
  19. See, I can understand the reasoning behind it, I can. I'm all for removing missions that are clogging up the MA, after writing two arcs myself and seeing them barely get played due to so many annoying farm rikti maps, I totally agree and understand.

But, some of these badges harm no one, particularly the Test mission badges. They aren't published missions, they sit on MY computer, harming no one. If I want to sit at home, repeatedly playng a specially made badge test mission, who does that harm?? Why remove the badges that some badge collectors will have spent the past few months working on that harm no one?

Again, I agree with the reasoning, but as usual the devs have left it far too late after release before doing anything.

Good idea, badly applied.....that's almost becoming the CoH motto recently
  20. I reckon there will be soon

Lots of badges from MA go....POOF!!!

See, this annoys me. I can understand getting rid of things to prevent farming for XP, prestige, etc, these are the sort of thing that can adversely affect a lot of people in the game....messing up the auction market, lvl 50's in 5 mins flat for instance......but removing badges that hurt no one?? I'm struglling to see much logic here!

Some people in game will have spent many hours playing MA maps to earn these badges. When you set it so you need a LUDICROUS amount to get a badge, sometimes there's no other way to get them without "farming" them (and I use that word loosely when it comes to badges)

I can see a fair few annoyed badge collectors making their voices heard.
  21. Yeah, but I get confused when you say GR, i think we're getting great mods back! :S
  22. Just had a quick look at both arcs files, there's a mountain of info that shouldn't be there, spaces, punctuation etc that shouldn't have been changed and has, that's going to take up a LOT of space!

Seems I have a lot of editing to do then
  23. Ok, Just went back into MA to edit the intro's to my 2 arcs, was going to add the cool new tags they are using in the US, see if it helps get my arcs played a little more.

Go to edit each of them to discover they are now flagging up as too large, both growing by about 10% each!!

What the hell happened here? I've checked in this forum, can't see anything about, has something changed I don't know about? I can't cut the arcs down that much! 10% is a massive chunk to lose!

  25. Steam ftw

I can just download the game anytime I want it now, why bother with a new disc?

Saying that, would be MUCh faster with the disc and I want a box edition for the shops to get the name back in there!!
