    It depends.

My build softcaps melee, range and AoE without the use of Weave. SR has 95% DDR and I've never seen my defense dip below 45% on any position with this current build from defense debuffs alone. I do have Tough, but mainly for an IO mule. Having Weave in my build would only add another endurance drain.

Now, if we are talking no IOs...yes, Fighting Pool is a terrific idea.

Before IOs, I leveled my character and bought SOs. I sometimes went and raided Hami and/or the LRSF for HOs.

After IOs, I leveled my character and bought SOs until level 32. Then I started investing in IOs by placing bids on the market and using planner's to propose a build. I then would farm certain TFs for merits to obtain the higher cost recipes and turn around and sell them on the market to buy the Sets I required for my proposed build. After I had obtain some recipes that could be slotted, I would find the salvage and then craft my recipes. At a sufficient level, between 42-47, I would respec one final time and place all available IOs into my build.

I'm not sure what you call IOs or how you obtain them, but they definitely require a time investment. Stating otherwise is ridiculous.

Without IOs, I would have left this game a long time ago because there wasn't anything to do ingame that was a good investment of my time.

    EDIT: removed unneeded snarky snarkness.
  5. Out of my 4 50 Brutes, only one has Taunt. Why? Because I picked it up at 49 and was the best power pick for default slotting.

Brutes can maintain a high Threat rating without the need for Taunting (save for /Stone Brutes). Which means aggro will stick to them pretty easily.

  7. Never been much of a fan with EA, even after several attempts leveling a brute per and post buffs to EA.

I do know a fair bit about /SR and it's a late blooming set. It was tough for the first 28-ish levels until I could invest slots and decent enhancements into my build but now, at 50 and softcapped, it's a monster.

In theory it wouldn't, as long as the majority of the playerbase can take part on a reasonable basis. Like I said before, I would wager that more players focus on common IOs or SOs rather then Set IOs/Purples/Uniques.

Installing such end game content that alienates a majority of your population and forces them to obtain the "gear" is not what this game is about, and should never be about.

I understand your wants and I agree to a point, but I would never advocate such end game content.

Depends. Are they running at the same difficulty you were or do you tone it down for them?

Ultimately, this is merely academic and doesn't matter. The devs of this game know the amount of players that invest in Set IOs vs. Common IOs/SOs, and I would wager 100 mil inf that Common IOs/SOs outweight Set IO players nearly 2 to 1.

They aren't going to create content that forces players to get the "gear" they need in order to compete. That's for other games and one of the reasons players dislike those other games.

Don't get me wrong, there is another brute of mine that I would have liked to work Dark Obliteration into. But, without six slots to devote to it, I don't think it would be worth it. So I put Darkest Night in instead.

    I guess I'll see when I get there if that's a mistake...
When DN was first added to the Soul Mastery Pool I quickly respecced my SS/WP Brute into the power. I slotted it with 1 -tohit debuff and 2 end rdx, minimal slotting and no IOs. I then did the RWZ Challenge and realized the DN was a great benefit to my survivability but came with a hefty end cost and slowed down my all out attacking I had grown use to (current build did not have focus on +end/+rec).

I decided that my SS/WP Brute was better built for being a damage machine rather than a "tank." So I respecced back into Dark Obliteration and haven't looked back.

Basically, DN, IMO of course, is best for Brutes who want to fill the Tank role or just want some additional survivability. No choice is better than the other, and your playstyle typically denotes which path you take; moar damage or moar survivability.

I'd like more events similar to the mothership raid and less like Hami. Mostly because the Rikti Raid is easier to setup and run. Yes, I'm a lazy gamer at times.

But this has nothing to do with your earlier post about players with SOs being forced out of "end game content."

SO slotted players can easily take part in Mothership Raids and Hami Raids, and it's us Players that force this mindset of "must have IOs to compete" and not the developed content.

Lastly, skill is the best attribute to buffing your character. No amount of IOs will help a player that is terrible, non-team oriented or not paying attention. This last statement has less to do with the topic at hand and more to do with the coffee taking over my fingers.

Defense IO set bonuses are overpowered right now. Sure characters can play fine with SOs, but using that as a balance point given the prevalence of defense set bonuses and the ease is silly. This isn't a problem now. But it will very much be a problem when Positron finishes his "end-game" content. Because the variability in power is far, far too vast between characters. And this variability depends in large measure on a player having a DEEP understanding of the mechanics.

So this got me wondering. Who the hell is Posi building this end-game content for? Because I can guarantee you that if it's built for us folks on the boards who agonize over builds and have multiple characters at the soft-cap then there's going to be quite the outcry.

I don't know if nerfs are the best way to deal with this problem, but the question of power progression among characters is something that's going to have to be addressed.

I see your point, but we have NO idea what to expect and how it will empower our characters. And it's jumping the gun ALOT to start thinking of a solution to a problem that doesn't even exist.

I would be very surprised to find out that SO slotted characters are given a backseat to the new content when the devs have stated many times that IOs are not mandatory to play the game.

Yep, well not exactly. I use to use Lightning Clap + Electric Fences. Then I realized it was quicker to just kill everything.

No, I didn't answer my own question. Aett and others did that for me.

    Sarrate,

I always take Taunt on Tanks. This thread was more of a confirmation since my SG had a small discussion and this topic surfaced.
  17. I read the info on Paragonwiki as well and it states Gaunlet's effect decreases with higher-ranking foes. I would assume that attacking an AV or using the Taunt Aura would be sufficient Threat to maintain aggro since a Tanker's threat mod is higher than all ATS (except Brutes).

I'm guessing there's no clear cut answer since Threat determines aggro, and it's possible for a tanker's threat level to be superseded by a scrapper or other AT unless that tank uses [Taunt]?

EDIT: thanks for the Info Aett, that's very insightful
  18. I always thought Tank's attacks contained a Taunt component in similar threat level as the power Taunt (same with taunt auras vs. taunt), but a SG mate states otherwise. Since neither of us are 100% sure and are only using personal experience to state our facts...we could use some confirmation from the community.

When fighting an AV or multiple, does punchvoke and Taunt Auras (from tanks) "taunt" the AV or does the player have to use the power [Taunt] in order to keep the aggro of the AV?
  19. PowerThrust: What's more fun then face punching someone 400 feet? I have it slotted for maximum KB.

Solar Flare: That PB on your team spamming Solar Flare? That's me. Wannafightaboutit?!?!

    Knockback Build

Storm Summoning comes to mind but I'm not sure you can beat a heavily KB slotted Energy/Energy Blaster. I six slotted Power Thrust with the Kinetic Crash set and have when I hit a low level critter...they will fly so far that I will lose sight of them.
  21. I think it's more about players from ChO coming to bring down CoH to share in their misery.

Screech does stack nicely with Oppressive Gloom though, and even Howling Twilight.

My Dark Def is Dark/Sonic/Dark (namesake) and uses a ranged def softcap build. I love to herd mobs for groups when the tank is too slow or there's no one stepping up to tank.
