People who paid separately for GR get to keep side-switching, Praetoria, and the 4 new powersets in it when they drop to Premium.

People who got those things for free just by being a VIP do not keep them. They will either have to remain subscribed or buy those things with points if they want to keep them.

Incarnate content is not included in that. Incarnates require a subscription, and ONLY a subscription to use. There is no way I am aware of to purchase it separately.

I'm pretty sure you've been shown that you have to click on things prior to getting sent to the Hollows via "Find Contact". Aren't there glowies in the first couple missions, AND in the tutorial that you need to click on?

Maybe the devs can have a floating coin over the SWAT guy with an arrow and the words "Click on me to leave the zone" in flashing neon.

The fact that players who have gotten that far should already know that a blue hand appears when they can click on something makes me think that detailed instructions on how to leave a zone are a little ridiculous.

It is NOT difficult to make the connection between "The blue hand means I can click on this to do something" and "The blue hand appearing over the SWAT guy means I click on him to leave". Or at least it's logical to me.

If you make instructions TOO detailed and specific, you go from helping new players to insulting their intelligence. I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I wouldn't be too inclined to keep playing a game that thinks I'm too stupid to figure out how to click something on my own, especially when that game has already shown me that information beforehand.
  3. OP: It sounds to me like you enjoy respeccing your character more than you like actually playing the game.

If that's the case, just download Mid's and play with that instead. You can repec as many times as you like without all that tedious game in the way.

It says NEARLY everything you already purchased right there in what you quoted. It has said "Nearly everything" in everything I have ever read regarding it. The use of the word "nearly" is very important there, as that word, which keeps getting ignored, is clearly stating that you don't keep 100% of what you had before.

"Nearly everything" is not the same thing as "everything". And if you DID keep 100% of everything you paid for, how much revenue would the game lose when VIPs stopped paying their subscription because there is no longer any reason for them to pay anything at all? The game losing revenue would be a BAD thing, as CoH's parent company has repeatedly proven that they are not the slightest bit shy about shutting down unprofitable games.

You were aware when you opened your account that downtime would occasionally occur right? The fact that you would be unable to access the game on occasion was known to you, correct? Downtime has happened before, hasn't it?

Were you ever told that you would be compensated for that downtime, in the history of the game? Did the devs ever state (or imply) that you would have access to the game whenever you felt like it, on your schedule?

No? None of those things occurred?

Then they don't OWE you a damn thing.

I'm sure you'd all rather they keep the servers up indefinitely so no one "loses money" by not being able to play. Have fun with the game being down for days and potentially losing information when the servers crash because they put off doing things to prevent that from happening.

Necessary upgrades cannot be postponed indefinitely. If what they are doing is indeed physically moving the data to brand spanking new servers, then the servers were probably delivered yesterday. That's why there wasn't more notice, because they didn't want to announce a specific date to do it and then have something happen that prevented it from happening that day. Like the new servers not showing up when they were supposed to, for example.

What is happening in this thread is very much like what happens to me at work. Okay, I'm a janitor at a college. Pretty much every day someone tells me that I can't close a bathroom during school hours in order to clean it. When I don't close the bathroom, quite frequently the same person will accost me and tell me that the bathroom is disgusting. Well, if you'd let me close it to clean in there, it wouldn't have been disgusting, now, would it?

People have been complaining for a while now about how buggy and laggy the game has been lately. The the same people turn around and complain when the devs shut the game down for an extended period in order to fix it. You can deal with the extended downtime, or with a buggy, lagging game. What you seem to be expecting, no downtime and a perfectly functioning game, is an impossibility.

    Customer is always right.
If they had ever said "Your subscription guarantees you access to the game at any time you like, regardless of any maintenance wemay need to do to our physical machines" you might have an argument.

They've never said that though. You pay for access to the game. That doesn't mean you paying will force them to put off necessary maintenance and hardward upgrades until it better suits your schedule.

They already had their staff come in at midnight or so (their time) in order to work on this as early as possible. What the hell else do you want from them? Free stuff because them doing their jobs inconvenienced you?

It sucks for the EU and Oceanic players who keep having this stuff happen during their prime playtime, but you have to remember that it usually occurs during normal working hours for where the servers are actually located (Northern California)

Let me ask you, would YOU be willing to come into work at the exact opposite time from your normal schedule just to avoid inconveniencing someone who lives on the other side of the world, which would then inconvenience the vast majority of your paying customers? If the servers were located in Korea (where NCSoft is based), the downtime would be happening during the Korean work day, and then the Oceanic players would be fine while NA players are screwed.

They have to do it SOMETIME, and they have access to the exact numbers of people online at any given time, so I can only assume they do this stuff when it would inconvenience the FEWEST possible people.
  7. As per the facebook page, they are actually physically moving servers. As in, they are shutting them down, packing them up, moving them somewhere else, doing their maintenance, and turning them back on.

That's going to take longer than a couple hours.

And to the crowd saying how ridiculous this is: This is the most drastic change this game has undergone. Ever. And you expect them to just flip a switch to make all of it happen? The servers need to be physically capable of running the game with all the changes. You don't see it, but in California there are 16 large computer servers in a room that can overheat, crash, melt down, and have anything happen to them that can happen to your computer at home.

Lets have the devs keep the servers active 24 hours a day for the next few months. Then instead of a couple 12 hour maintenance times, they can shut the game down for days or weeks while they replace the servers that had a complete meltdown.

It's only a video game. If it's really so important to you that not being able to play it for half a day sends your entire life into a tailspin....well, maybe you should look into some therapy or something to help you with that problem. Again, it's only a video game.
  8. As per the Facebook page, they are actually physically moving the servers this time. It's going to take a while to get everything back up and running.

It's "Avoid the power like the plague or NPCs will point and laugh at you" bad.

Worth noting: Slice, available at level 2, deals the same amount of damage as Slash, and it hits 5 targets to Slash's one. And it only costs a little more endurance, so you can use it on single targets in a pinch. I take Hack at level one, and Slice at level 2. I haven't taken Slash on a BS character in years. It's not a horrible attack if you look at it in a vacuum, but when you compare it to the rest of the attacks in the set it's the stinker. There's no compelling reason to ever take it when Slice is available one level later.

The reason Gambler's Cut is better than SotW is simply because it's so fast (less than a second of animation time if I recall correctly). It doesn't actually deal that much damage on it's own, but it's a great place to put a couple procs. It's sheer speed also means it fits into the gaps in a low recharge katana attack chain wonderfully.

That would be a jerk move at the very least, even if it isn't against the rules.

    I'm sure it's possible.

The veil from the wedding pack is exactly that, it's essentially a cape that is attached to the head instead of the shoulders.

Unless I'm greatly mistaken about what's involved, the tech to do it is already in the game and being used. Probably wouldn't be too awfully difficult to adapt it from a veil to a headband.*

(*I don't actually know how difficult it is or isn't, it just seems that using existing code for a new application would be easier than writing new code)

Pretty fun arc. The Inigo Montoya quip was the first thing in the game in a long time that had me actually laughing out loud. It's nice to see that the devs and writers of this game are just as big of geeks as me.

    Also:

Can't remember how to post pics.
  14. I'm pretty sure that with the anticipated influx of free players, this is intended to prevent groups of people standing around waiting for things to spawn so they can complete missions.

From what I've heard, that is a lot of people's least favorite aspect of a lot of MMOs. Low spawn rates of things a lot of people need to defeat in order to progress.

But, with the phasing tech in place, once you are done with that part, you shouldn't have to deal with it anymore.
  15. In regards to the TF length concern:

Most of the newer TFs are designed to take no more than a couple hours to complete. The older ones can be longer than that, but they've been gradually updating them (Synapse next? Please? I mean, do we REALLY need to go beat a boss in 5 missions in a row in 4 different zones?).

And with the longer ones, as long as the whole team is on board with it, you very much can log off and finish them later. In fact, they were originally designed to do exactly that with them. All you have to do is log off without quitting the TF and when you log that character back on you will still be on it (provided it isn't completed in the meantime).

Glad to see you're enjoying the game so much. My global is @Claws and Effect, I have a couple characters on Exalted, and will be transferring a couple of my seldom played 50s over there as well. Look me up in game sometime and I'd be happy to squash some baddies with ya.

    End Game Content

The game doesn't need more levels. It's designed around there being a set number of levels and a set number of powers. Unlike other MMOs, we don't replace powers with better versions of the same power, we just make the original power better. Adding more powers to that will just end up with everyone having more powers than they can ever reasonably use. Look at a level 50 blaster, most of their powers are attacks, and you can only use so many attacks. Adding more slots wouldn't do much good, once everything is 6 slotted there's nothing more you can do with a power.

Raising the level cap would serve no practical purpose in this game. The only point to a level cap raise is to keep people grinding to reach the new end game, which invalidates the current end game. Instead of expanding the game upward, the devs decided to expand it sideways instead. Instead of raising the cap, they juts give us more to do at the cap. And unlike a lot of MMOs, the devs routinely give us more to do below the cap as well. First Ward, which is a new zone, is level 20-29. Any MMO that regularly raises the cap would never consider adding more content to lower levels, but they do it here all the time.

Additionally, when you reach level 50 and get your character built and slotted how you want it, it is DONE if you decide it is. There is no possibility that they will add more levels and your formerly finished character is now below the cap again.

One of the other points about it is the devs have repeatedly and consistently stated that one of their goals with this game is to keep it alt friendly. I personally have and play over 30 different characters, and I don't have that many compared to some players. If the level cap was routinely raised, I would be forced into playing only a few characters if I wanted to keep them caught up with everyone else. I enjoy each and every one of my characters and would rather not have to pare down how many I play because I have to grind to a new cap.

The Incarnate trials were only recently added, and they are the first "raid" like content this game has ever really had. CoH does not revolve around raiding to get the gear you need so you can raid to get the gear you need for the next raid to get the gear you need for the next one. It is now an option if you're so inclined to play like that, but it's not the point of the game, unlike a certain 800 lb gorilla MMO I could cite (if I were permitted to by the forum rules)

TL/DR version: CoH doesn't need to raise the level cap because it was designed in such a way it isn't necessary in order to add new content.

No, it doesn't. Gambler's Cut is a good attack, Slash sucks.

    Quote:
You can use shields with BS but not with katana (something I still wonder why katana is the quick hit set yet its two handed and BS is burst damage set yet its one-handed)
It makes perfect sense actually. In real life, a broadsword is slightly heavier than a katana (by a pound or two), and you are using the broadsword with only one hand. It is easier to move a lighter sword quickly with two hands than it is to move a heavier sword quickly with just one. Anyone who can move a broadsword at the same speed as a katana with only one hand is freakishly strong. You don't realize how heavy those things really are until you try swinging one around one-handed.

    Quote:
Since GC hits two times (and its two quick hit nonetheless) it may fire procs two times (not tested by me yet but I sometimes get results suggested that this works) It fire reactive interface two times though since its easier to observe.
No, it only fires procs once. The two hits are with one attack roll. You need to have more than one attack roll to have more chances to proc. It did not fire Reactive twice. Reactive is a DoT, so it just looks like it fired twice. It will only check to proc once per to-hit roll, or every 10 seconds for a toggle power.

The only real benefit to it being 2 hits is it lets you see when an Achille's Heel proc goes off, because it procs on the first hit and the second hit will be 20% higher than normal. (Ablating Strike in Dual Blades and Slash in Claws are the same way)

    Quote:
Pretty much it depends what you want to play. High slow burst damage than its BS, low quick burst damage katana. Also if you want to use shileds BS is ur only choice among these two.
The differences aren't that great. Katana will have better DPS, but broadsword will produce slightly larger orange numbers. Personally, I like the CRUNCH!!! sound that Broadsword has to it. It really sounds like you just messed that dude's world up when you hit him.

    Time Overpowered

Oh yeah, something just occurred to me.

Assuming Farsight stacks (no reason why it shouldn't), 8 Time Manipulation Defenders all running Maneuvers should be able to consistently sit at the defense HARD cap. Which is just over 200% defense I believe.

    8 x 8% = 64% defense

    +

    8 x 22% = 176% defense.

That should be more than enough to hit the defense hard cap, which I believe is actually somewhat lower for non-melee ATs.

Fake Nemesis will knock you on your butt. I believe their staff attack is mag 11 or so. Don't bother with mag 8, as anything that exceeds mag 4 exceeds mag 8 as well. If you're not going to get mag 12 protection, I wouldn't go past mag 4, which will protect you from 90% of the PvE KB you're likely to face.

Also, not sure if you know this or not, but melee ATs get knockback resistance as well as protection. That means that any KB power that hits them will first have it's magnitude decreased by the resistance, then the protection will be applied. And the resistance is like, 10,000%. It's virtually impossible to knock back a melee AT that has KB protection built into it's mitigation set. (Fiery Aura, Dark Armor, and Ninjitsu have no inherent KB protection)

Oh yeah, let's not discount the significant to-hit debuff power available to every TM character by level 4. Get a team of 8 Fire/Time controllers together and you'll be flooring everything's to-hit while melting them with Hot Feet/Fire Cages.....all by level 8. Probably going to be the earliest steamrolling superteam I can think of.

Because that's one of the "account level" items. Auto-applying everything to every character means you will be stuck with those powers on your character, even if you don't want them at all. And once claimed you can't get rid of them.

    I'll pass.

Besides, with any account level items you may have, there should be at least one free tailor token in there as well, so it costs you squat to make adjustments at Ms. Liberty, which is 30 seconds into the game if you skip the tutorial.
