(since I play on Pinnacle, those occasions are rare indeed)

AM isn't even close to perma, 45 seconds or so of downtime. But, yes, I still have problems. The reason I have problems is as follows: I get more recovery from AM, but it also speeds up my attack chain, I also use Hasten to bring AM back faster, which speeds up my chain more. Between that and my toggles, I'm okay, but if I need to use my heal on top of that is when I run into problems.

I don't have the cash for purples, otherwise I would likely not be having these issues, since they have recovery as the 2 slot and recharge as the 5 slot bonuses.

    Awww, thanks!

    You rule too!

Also, I have many powers that start with F or S. Though in this case the one you're thinking of is Focus, and the range is 40 feet. Shockwave may be the one that starts with an S, range on that one is about the same.

It was on test when they discovered the reasons why it is not allowed now. Aett made his before they stopped allowing it, thus he still has one.
  4. See, I create my own stories within the context of the game.

My main, Claws and Effect, was a scientist working on cybernetic limb replacements for accident victims and amputees. At some point the Crey corporation got wind of his research and decided they wanted it. Since he wouldn't sell it to them, they blew up his lab. That caused the amputation of his arms at the shoulders and his legs at the knees. He had a set of working prototype limbs that were not stored at the lab, so he had them grafted on by Rick Davies and started up a personal quest for vengeance on Crey.

The part that I added into the Crey storyline as it exists in the game is that Crey's power armor and some of their Protector technology was stolen from my main character. Since they never really go into where all of that came from in great detail, it is a hole that I could write myself into.

All of my other characters spin off from that basic storyline somehow or another. I made my characters an integral part of the world by writing my own story connecting them to it. It makes me feel like what I do matters, whether I'm saving the world or running a scanner mission for my character's own reasons (like, the person you're rescuing has information I need to set Crey up for a fall, or something similar)

Since it's an MMO, they can't make the storyline TOO immersive, because not everyone plays MMOs for the same reason. If the storyline was deeply immersive, it would lead to a lot of linear gameplay, which is a BAD thing for a game relying on monthly subscriptions. If a player feels like they "beat" the game, they will stop subscribing to it. An MMO can't survive if the gameplay feels too linear, and like they're leading you by the nose to the conclusions that they want you to reach.

If something like that were to happen it would grey one of them out when you choose one. Like Widow Follow Up and Build Up.

    Shockwave query

I had a nasty bit of revenge I utilized on an Energy blaster who had been targeting my targets for an entire mission and knocking them away from me. (he was targeting through me and knocking them back just as I was closing to melee range, I know it was intentional because he was using Power Push)

.....I waited until he started the animation for Nova and Shockwaved everything out of range of it. He was pissed, I was smiling. Good times.

Not really. A car will still move at idle speed. An electric guitar will still make a sound, it just won't be as loud. And decaffeinated coffee......well, it's still a hot liquid I guess.

It was intended to be humorous, not a serious comparison. Seems like you have "Sense of Humor" woefully underslotted.

That said, I'm actually contemplating a blaster build that skips Aim and Build Up, relying on fast recharging, fast activating attacks and Defiance to add damage. Coupled with the fact that I forget to use them all the time anyway it's not necessarily a bad move for my playstyle, which can be compared to a squirrel with ADHD and a serious sugar rush.

Oh, and I point and laugh at you now for falling for the necropost, ClawsandEffect.

It could have just as easily have been you Werner, can you seriously say you would have remembered seeing this thread 4 years ago?

And in my defense, I wasn't even playing yet when the original post in this thread was made. Well, I was, but I had just started and hadn't found the forums yet, as my reg date illustrates.

That said, this one wins the necropost crown in my book. It is the farthest back I have ever seen one dredged up that recieved a legitimate serious reply (from myself in this case)

    El / Regen

You know your thread title is Spanish for "The Regen" right?
  12. MA with no Focus Chi = Car with no gas pedal
MA with no Focus Chi = Electric guitar with no amplifier
MA with no Focus Chi = Decaffeinated coffee

I rest my case, Your Honor
  13. I'd say roll a Willpower, Electric, or Dark Armor tank and utilize your second build to work on Psionic for those occasions when you know you'll be fighting a loty of Psi users. That way you still have your main build for all purpose tanking and a specific one for Psi (since building for Psi resistance/defense tends to gimp other aspects of a build)

I wouldn't worry too much about it though.

Not when you get better at it. There's definitely a learning curve to blapping. It takes some skill to get good at knowing when to jump into melee and when not to.

I wouldn't have chosen Rad/Ice to make a blapper out of, but if you can make it work, more power to you.

Rad/Fire or Rad/Mental are absolutely awesome AoE blappers, with the (rather large) catch that they will drop more often due to the nature of the PBAoE attacks (and the fact that Irradiate is DoT)

I like Electric best for blapper builds, but I'm enjoying my Rad/Mental too. If my Ice/Electric works out how I'm planning he'll be an absolute beast. Ice Storm at your feet is excellent mitigation if you slot it for slow. And since Lightning Field has such a huge radius for blasters (20 feet as opposed to the usual 8 feet) it should continue damaging them while they try to run out of the Ice Storm. And of course I'll be saying hi with Charged Brawl and Havoc Punch while all that is going on as well. Also, remember that there is no rule against using ranged attacks while you're right in someone's face.

I'm considering taking Invisibility and using it's "Only Affecting Self" limitation to my advantage. Jump in a spawn with Invisibility on and drop Invis just before throwing down Ice Storm. Since you can't affect anyone else while invisible I can leave Lightning Field on when I jump in without it alerting them to my presence. Ice Storm will scatter them (very slowly) and Lightning Field will be ticking away. It should be fun, I'll let you all know how it works out for me.
  15. Or you could slot the bejeezus out of it for knockback and have fun playing Hellion Golf.
  16. Well, farming +4's gives you the best possible inf/hour ratio, IF you can kill them fast enough the extra HP they have isn't a factor, so that's one possible reason.

Shield/SS or Shield/Elec on a tank would go at a pretty good clip.

I've got a L50 SD/SS Tanker and with AAO and stacked Rage he does great damage, by how much would the current FOTM FM/SD outdamage me?

If it's easier to work out how does a SD/FM Tank compare to an FM/SD Scrapper?

There are lots of posts on SD Scrappers and how great they are but I've seen no real comparison data compared to the Tank counterpart.

    Thanks
Actually, with that particular powerset combo the scrapper won't be beating you out by that much. SD/SS and SD/DM are among the highest damging tank powerset combos you can have.

I don't know the numbers, but it shouldn't be too huge of a margin. Yes, the scrapper will outdamage you, but it's not as wide a gap as some other powersets.

Let me say it this way: I cannot make a /SD or SD/ character that doesn't feel slow, I don't mean he is slowly progressing in battle, I just mean he looks clumpsy and tight, where a /SR feels free and fast moving, as he/she doesn't need to wear a big shield at their left arm.

I don't have any problem with your choice, and I don't consider it uncreative. It's just that in the late game Elec/Shield (when heavily IOed) will outperform Elec/SR in identical situations.

    The advantages you have:

    Quickness
    Cheaper to softcap
95% defense debuff resistance without slotting Hami-Os

    Advantages Shield has:

    Against All Odds
    Shield Charge
    Max HP boost
Built in resistance in Deflection and True Grit (that doesn't require your HP to drop first)
Non-crashing tier 9 (it does crash, but it doesn't take your entire end bar)

There's nothing wrong with SR, just that Shield outperforms it when you start getting into high dollar, push-the-envelope builds.

    Something I've missed?
Well, aside from forgetting about Consume from Fire Manipulation you pretty much got it.

Downside is, Conserve Power just reduces the end you use, it does nothing to increase your recovery.

Drain Psyche (I think) can be slotted with enough end mod to put you in positive recovery after a nuke....IF you hit your maximum number of targets. Also must be used before the nuke, since afterwards there won't be anything left to drain.

Consume and Power Sink both require popping a blue before you use it, just to give you enough end to fire it off. Can be problematic unless there is another mob nearby. (note: Ice blasters can drop their nuke and fire either of these powers before the mob dies, but still need a blue on hand)
  20. Best use of slots in Power Thrust (if you're not slotting Mako's Bite for ranged defense) is Kinetic Combat for some cheap KB protection.

I know you don't use IOs Sam, but that's one set you might want to look into if you don't have room in your build to take Acrobatics and have issues with knockback.

If not that, one accuracy and maybe an end reduction should do fine. Damage isn't the point of Power Thrust, though you can use it to kill a minion with a sliver of health and save your bigger attacks for the LT breathing down your neck.
  21. It's not entirely relevant, but I was considering building an AR/EM PvP sniper (for teams of course)

Boost Range + Sniper Rifle (slotted with Dam/Range Hami-Os) +Stealth = a sniper that can fire from outside most people's visual range, with an attack that gives no indication where it came from (i.e. no telltale trail leading back to your position)

It won't be a PvP god or anything, but it'd be fun to mess with people with.

AR/EM has quite a bit of synergy if you don't mind redraw.

Cloak of Fear and Cloak of Darkness are must haves if your going to do any PvP. You might also want to try Oppressive Gloom, but fears better IMHO.
    Dark Armor in PvP?

You're insane. Speaking from extensive experience with a softcapped Broadsword/Dark Armor....DA is just about the WORST set you could take into PvP.

Look at the powers. Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom, do you really think any PvPer that has ANY clue what they're doing is going to let you keep these toggles up? If you're mezzed, even for a 1/4 of a second, they drop. Almost every possible character has SOME kind of mez to hit you with, you WILL have those toggles dropped almost instantly upon engaging in combat.

Dark Regeneration. Mine is slotted to heal well off one target. You'll be lucky if you GET one target to heal from. And the huge end cost is gonna hurt, since you're not going to be in a big enough group to get any real benefit from a Theft of Essence proc.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dark Armor, but it's the last thing I would choose for a PvP character.

Also, in response to another poster, skipping Death Shroud is a mistake.

Edit: I just noticed the necropost. Well done, well done. You revived a thread and got a serious reply to it 4 years later.

4 years ago Dark Armor was actually a viable PvP set, not the case any longer.

Yeah, it's not very realistic nor practical.
That's the problem I'm having with my Rad/Sonic defender. He's softcapped to ranged and I can survive a GM fight, but if I attack fast enough to keep their HP bar moving downward my end drains too fast.

Need more recovery and I can't find any way to do it outside of a Miracle +Rec, and I don't have the cash for that currently.

Turning on a Raptor Pack maybe?

Or does that toggle Hover off? Never had any reason to turn both on before.
