I'm working on a new troller and to change things up I decided I'd like to have her hover around as much as I can rather than walking/running. I've heard that with some slotting and so on, you can get Hover's speed up to the of Flight, but I've forgotten how that was done. I'm guessing that taking Swift is part of the deal there, right?
I don't need to have a super-fast Hover speed going for zone traveling; I've never slotted Flight beyond the original slot, so that would be about the target speed I'm looking to get.
Also, what about combating END usage? Slotting? Heck, any thing relevant (combat tactics, odball uses, warnings to watch out for low bridges, etc.) would be greatly appreciated. -
Quote:So was that written just for Vista users or can I use it as well on my XP-running machine? Here's the download.

Quote:I've got no prob with negative feedback, I've provided that myself, and I can understand some folks aren't all jazzed by the new Y content and would have rather had some X added instead (patience is a virtue btw); I've been there too.Because we care for the game and feel that there's also room for negative feedback, that is if people in general are genuinely having fun with the new issue.
I was referring to the vitriol-oozing posters who's anger at something in the game is a bottomless pit of darkness and grainy, flavorless snack-cakes; you'd think the devs came round to their place and kicked their puppies.
Lighten up players, yeesh. Or stop playing.

The only thing bugging me about i16 is how it's once again bringing the cranky players and doom-sayers out of the woodwork. Really people: if you don't like X, Y, or Z...
why do you still play?
I wish I had room to put that in my sig in big flashing red letters but I want to keep the word out on my oh noes they's broekn!!111!1!11! MA arcs which I will still quite happily play while looking for other arcs to play regardless of what XP they do or don't give.
Otherwise I'm happy as a clam with it. I've changed a few toons' power colors and created a new Controller with pink healing powers to annoy WE NEEDZ A HEAL0RZ!11!! teams with.
The future looks bright and multi-colored. -
Quote:Even though you say you played pre-AE, you're still talking as if it's the entirety of CoH. They could yank it tomorrow and never bring it back and the game will still roll along.Ditto.... I think my whole SG and global friends all managed to quit in a day... Everyone played 1 day and now some are so disapointed and going to Champions Online. /cry
Oh well I will fight threw it for a little bit and hope they revive AE xp again. Since people liked playing AE missions.. I have plenty of lvl 50's but enjoyed playing both AE and the regular missions. Now AE is pretty much dead.. Even ticket volume sucks so can't even accrue ticket volume at a decent rate to get random enh.\salvage.
I would have to say some changes were great. But other changes really hurt game playability and caused many of my friends to leave. Since I played the old school way (Pre-AE) I am sorta used to it. Although liked AE to grind out tickets quickly..
This issue could make or break COH unfortunately. To me it is breaking it.
For those of you who haven't been paying attention, the devs have stated that this current XP situation was not the end-all, be-all of their options, just something they could put into place for now to stop the exploits and that the real solutions would come later once they can get them coded. All you need is the patience to wait it out, as ridiculous and enraging a concept as that may be to you... -
I meant wait and see what players do in the long run. That can also be extended to wait and see what the devs do with this in the long run as they've said they're probably not done with all this yet. Nothing is set in stone and there are always at least a few hardcore X players out there who will be doing something (playing ITFs, writing bios for their toons, playing AE arcs, hunting badges, creating toons based on Naruto characters, you name it) no matter what changes are made or what problems exist. So pulling your arcs from your sig is still making it less likely that anyone will play them. (I would also argue that it at leats partially invalidates claiming "no one's playing my arcs now that they changed the XP" in the future. You know, should you feel the urge to do so)
And - off topic here - ya gotta love the rep system! Allowing people to slap you in disagreement without having to face you was the best idea ever. -
Day Job Hell: A Villain's First Day Job
@Clave Dark 5
Arc ID#: 322480
Length: Long
Morality: Villainous
Enemy Groups: ClockWork, Tuatha de Dannan, "re-purposed" standard foes (colors+name changed)
Description: "Rise from the Mercy sewers and become a true villain. Lowbie villain arc, lvls 1-10. Guaranteed snake free! Custom groups='re-purposed' standards. Single added Boss spawns as a Lt. on Difficulty setting 1. LBMA, SFMA [not yet spellchecked]"
Take your villain from zero to hero! Wait, that didn't come out right... but you get the idea. Your new villain needs a place to start and getting a couple of dayjob badges seems as good as anything, but the only place that will have you is the Mercy Island Sewer Works, run by a man known as Fats Squalor. Learn to hate your job, your "friends" and to turn that burning rage into what it takes to become a true villain. This one's a bit more serious than my two previous (see sig) but it does have some touches of humor. I've tried to keep all the text visible for teams as well.
I've tested it with a few level 1 squishes (without using any vet powers) and they all did ok on difficulty setting 1. Good for a few levels if you're 1 or 2; if not, it's still fun and has no snakes!
No one but me has run through it yet and it sounds like you'd be the best possible testers for this. I could really use the feedback on anything that might make this a "not so successful lowbie arc", as it;'s my first lowbie arc. If you can find the time to take a look I'd be most grateful. And sorry about the "not yet spellchecked" thing, but life's been in the way since I put it up.

I was just doing something like this for an Ice/Dark Corr who's got a lot of fall browns in her color scheme. I didn't find it all that hard to find something suitable, I just kept clicking on all the yellow-y/beige-brown colors until the combo works out ok.
Really, I think the more we all mess around with this the easier it'll be for us. In the meantime, have fun with it, go nuts and see what weirdness you can find. -
Clave Dark 5 is obviously a spoonerism from the band name The Dave Clark 5. I came up with it one day and wrote it down in my little notebook of ideas. BTW, I can't name one tune they've done, just heard the name...
Months later I was idly wondering "say, clave seems a simple enough combo of English phonetics, I'm surprised it's not actually a real word". So I go to my 20 lb. unabridged dictionary to look it up and turns out it is a real, if archaic and unused, word. It's an alternate form of cleave, which interestingly means either to cut or to cling to.
So, Clave Dark means something like "to cut or to cling to (the) dark". Some weeks later I'm making this stalker and the name comes into my head and sounds appropriately dark and evil so I used it for him. As time goes by it turns out he's the first AT I really "get", so I liked him and have stuck with the name ever since.
(For what it's worth, I say he comes from a demon race that does not use names, but numbers, so Clave Dark is something of a clan name while 5 is his personal name. But I get called Clave all the time so it's not that important really)

I only had about an hour to poke around before I had to go to work, but one thing I did was recolor the powers for my Ice/Dark Corr. Wow, now I wish I had made her a Fire/Dark!
Her costume colors tend towards beige-y yellows, oranges and browns because of her connection the the fall season ("Amber September" is her name), so I used those colors to replace the Dark Miasma powers. When you do that, those powers really start to look like flames a lot of the time, so it would mix well for a Fire/Dark it seems to me. -
I can't stand olives. Except those salty ones with the seed still in them that you find in a Greek salad; for some reason, they work with the other ingredients so well that I actually enjoy them in one.

Quote:"No one will play my arcs because of the loss of XP so I'm going to stop mentioning them." Sounds to me like a slef-fulfilling prophecy. Then again, that just means I have a better chance of people playing mine, so please do!Doesn't help that "new dev content" since MA came consists almost entirely of two ginormous sacks of decimal shifted regen.
I better take my arcs out of my sig for a while. The XP is going to be atrocious until my ideas meet dev specifications.
I know everyone's all doom and gloom about this - and don't get me wrong, I can see why - but I find it's often better to take the wait'n'see approach to things. -
Quote:I hate that sound too. Every villain I play stops whatever they're doing while crossing Mercy to kill any of the Infected who barfs within earshot.This. The sound effect used (at least with the barfers in Pocket D, which I think was actually removed) can actually cause quite a bit of queasiness for me. It's that nasty.
"OK buddy, I may be a villain and would just as soon beat up nuns as look at 'em, but that was just tacky. You asked for it..." -

I'd say go for it if that's what you really want to do and damn the naysayers. If only two people "get" what you wanted to do with it, then the arc is a success. Only a few people might "get" it, but it'll be the right few people.
I was going to mention MrCaptainMan's arc but hey, here he popped up and did that for me. It does build tension pretty well, so I'd recommend you look into that arc and see if the technique or something like it might apply to your story.
Lastly,
Quote:made me laugh a lot! I have no idea why, but that song has been stuck in my head the past couple of days; just this morning I was humming it in the shower and then Heraclea went and posted it -
I've heard AR/Traps don't synergize well, but I've only played one up to about 10th or so before I deleted him; he seemed to be going pretty slowly even for a squishie. Then again that was when I was still fairly new to the game and leveling took longer too.
Both sets on their own are pretty good though, so this "received wisdom" of mine may be out of date. -
Quote:Also one more thing I'd like to add;
Healing is the attribute that becomes more and more useless the more of it is available. And this happens very fast, generally two healers (yeah, I know, there aren't real healers..) are already too much and the other healer's spot could've been better spent by picking a buffer/debuffer.
Good point, I've subconsciously noticed that too but never thought about it that way. -
Quote:1) Find out their handle in-game.Apparently someone thinks that Dark Miasma and Storm Summoning don't bring anything of value to a team.
2) Never team with them.
I have each of those sets on a pair of Bots MMs and they are like easy-mode with frosting on top, especially the stormie. -
Huh, never seen that or heard of it happening. I think you may just have to sit this one out and wait for customer support. Pretty annoying I know, but really, in the life of your arc - which may last months or years - this will be but a small blip of time.
