Need a new corruptor.. any suggestions

I have a Sonic/Dark who was awesome and I enjoy that toon. I decided I need to make a new corruptor.

I am thinking Fire/Dark because once Issue 16 drops I can make black flames.. sweet...
Also thinking Rad/Dark and going with a negative energy bolt theme as well...

However I have never tried traps and heard good things about it. How is AR/Traps I have an AR/NRG blaster who can really pour out damage on teams and solo..

I am not thinking Ice because I have enough Ice toon already.. Ice tanks.. Cold/Ice defender. Ice controller.. gonna roll and Ice/Cold controller when issue 16 drops..

I can vouch for Fire/Dark. Fantastic combo. Great damage, nice debuffs, Fluffy adds to the fun and I believe will zone with you come i16. With the new Super SK system in i16 it'd be fun to do a themed Fire/Dark superteam since you won't have to juggle mentors/SKs. One of the most memorable teaming experiences I had was teaming with 2 other Fire/Darks. We were on a team of 8 but I don't remember any of the other characters!

AR/Traps sounds like it'd be fun. Like you, I've played AR/NRG and that was a bunch of fun. Boost Range + tons of cones = win.

AR/traps was fun, mine's at 50. it has very good smash/lethal/energy defense, and it's pretty fun to patron aoe immob a group, ignite, flamethrower, or lay out caltrops and acid mortar, and aoe away. trip mines offer fun solo options, as well.

the best things about traps, IMO, is (relatively) easily softcappable ranged/aoe def, status resistance, great team def, and with some minimal extra recharge, multiple acid mortars. Put an achille's heel -res in burst, and you have -60% res on AVs, no problem. Seekers can also be leveraged to take alphas; i've set the pace for teams with my trapper lots of times.

a potential playstyle downside is the pbaoe nature of poison trap, and the cone nature of AR. makes for a lot of repositioning to get the most out of the cones.

I've heard AR/Traps don't synergize well, but I've only played one up to about 10th or so before I deleted him; he seemed to be going pretty slowly even for a squishie. Then again that was when I was still fairly new to the game and leveling took longer too.

Both sets on their own are pretty good though, so this "received wisdom" of mine may be out of date.

AR/Traps has a story synergy, but playstyle it requires a lot of bouncing around to make effective (unless you only do pulls, which are effective but slow after a while). It ain't any worse than AR/Kin though--so possible, and a good deal safer than most other secondaries. Elec and Rad blast would actually synergize better with Traps, as do Ice and Fire (but ice and fire tend to synergize with everything).

All the options you're looking at are good choices. Fire/Dark is kinda a 'I Win' button in game. I loved leveling mine and she was easily my fastest 50. Rad/Dark would be an interesting combo, and one I've been thinking of trying out myself recently.

I'll toss my two cents in, as usual, for a combo that was not mentioned or considered. Arch/Kin. Archery has heaps of ST damage for soloing and has lots of buffs and AOE for teaming. You don't get the sechse dark pet, but you do get some pretty ridiculous slotting choices. If you're stuck on /dark though I'd suggest Rad/Dark. After having played if for a few weeks now and having dumped about 3 billion between the four respecs that I've done in that time, I'd say that it's arguably the best matchup for /Dark on a corr.

AR/Storm. You can ground enemies and slow them significantly to Ignite them, you have lots of AOEs. Thunder Clap and Beanbag stack to stun bosses.

Great combos I endorse:

Sonic/Dark (you know this already)
Fire/Dark
Dark/Dark
Rad/Pain
Fire/Rad
Ice/Storm
Dark/Storm
Elec/Kin (sapper)

There are others, but those I know for a fact are strong w/o long development and expensive builds.

I've not played mine past level ten yet, but rather than Rad/Dark, I'd consider Dark/Rad

-- Dark blasts stack with Radiation infection to floor -ToHit.

-- Dark blooms painfully late, Rad blooms gloriously early. You may only have two attacks until level eight, but with Radiation Infection and Accelerate Metabolism, you can still solo quickly.

-- Radiation has ranged anchored debuffs. Dark has multiple cone AoEs, including an immobilize. Tentacles + Infection is AMAZING.

-- I've heard that nukes tend to be too dangerous for Rad to use, since his toggles will drop. I haven't tested it, but Blackstar might be safe enough.

-- I don't know my invention sets or market prices, so I can't speak to softcapping or what not. On the other hand, with all your debuffs, your efense should be largely irrelevant except against AVs.

Great corrs I've played or am playing.
Fire/rad (just a versatile freak, wish I hadn't deleted it at 35)
Fire/cold (wow aoe damage)
Fire/traps (lol AV's)
ice/rad (safe and flexible)
elec/kin (sapper)
rad/therm (wish I hadn't deleted it at 32)
rad/dark (only thing dark miasma doesn't excel at is -def, problem solved)

I've played a few others into the 20's like fire/kin, but just didn't get into it. But pretty much every corr is good/great, just find one you enjoy as that is more important than trying to shoehorn enjoyment into a powerbuild.

I'd Suggest Fire/Storm for AoE madness and great scourge from Freezing Rain, Rain of Fire and Fireball. There is a -range, -to hit, knockback in Hurricane, plus a pet in Lightning storm. I also fit the heal into my build. It is end heavy so you'll probably want the Performance Shifter and the Miracle to keep it pumping.

Ice/Kin at 45 and i blizzard as soon as its up
