Let Arc A hit HoF getting you a free slot, watch Arc 1 start the climb again, lather, rinse, repeat. Of course, with ratings coming in slowly and far from steadily (if at all), this is less of a "problem" even if we could overwrite an entire arc.
Even if you could make massive changes with only a couple of clicks, I don't see that being worthy of some sort of farming or exploit. After a few minutes in, players would just be thinking "Who the heck rated this five stars?" and quit or rate it more in line with what they felt about it. PLus from my experience pimping your arc on the forums gets you more plays than having a high play number, by far.

I think this is all just paranoia. People could pull stuff like this if they wanted to anyways - everyone who's willing to game the system will put in time at it, and doing so with what we have right now isn't that huge a time sink, really. The fact that we are allowed to go in and make changes in the first place seems to me like de facto evidence that the devs actually don't worry that there's some super-cheaty way of getting votes/plays/hugs. And I'm in that camp with them.
  2. Switching should work well for me as I have a handful of toons that I stalled out on around the high 30s to low 40s. That said, I have to admit that my conception of the character strongly influences my choice - how do I see them? Are they 100% worthy of that Heart Of Darkness badge? Are they evil to the core or is there some room for redemption? Are they tempted to do hateful things normal society would shun them for or will they go out of their way to help someone?

I'll be taking one of my bots MMs to Paragon City just cuz. It'll be hard to know which one as they're both pretty eveil, but I'll figure something out. I'll probably go looking for a stalker as well for the same reason, although I'm not sure off the top of my head who I have that might go - my namesake here certainly won't; maybe my panda assassin that I made for the SG that only runs MA arcs (but that sort of defeats the purpose, huh? )

Other than that, I don't think I have anyone blueside that I wish to take red. I rarely play blueside (and have few hero toons whatsoever); something about either the ATs or the content feels very lifeless to me compared to red. Then again, I'm looking forward to dual pistols, so I might make a Corr and take it blueside.

EDIT: I actually thought of a villain that would be worthwhile taking blueside - Operative SNAFUBAR, my Widow who's strongly rebeling against Arachnos through cyber terrorism... well, ok, she hacked Lord Recluse's blog and sent him a RickRoll. She claims. Anyways, I forget - can VEATs go good or HEATs go bad?

    The City Scoop?

I never read the Scoop on any kind of regular basis, just once in a while; now I find the idea of it being no more kind of sad-ifying...

Keep working on solving the problems guys!

  5. It seems as if I've been playing for forever and yet I only have two 50s.

Mi Ko To was a Katana/Regen scrapper I made as a joke character (long story) and then discovered that I loved playing. The first ever AT I "got" was a stalker, so this shouldn't surprise too much. I think he was the first toon I ever looked up build advice on as well, so that probably helped. He was about say 30ish when IOs came out and managed to get some really nice ones dirt cheap. Someday maybe I'll strip those for another hero, but... maybe not. He hit 50 in the then-new RWZ and quickly got left behind; I haven't played him in so long I'd have to start again solo to get a feel for what all he's capable of.

Spin The Knife is a crazy-girl Dual-Blade/Nin stalker that I leveled up pre-stalker buffs, so I obviously liked playing her for her own sake rather than because of uber-pwnage or anything. I was in my first SG (hard for me to get an SG due to my hours) and that helped.

She tended to end a lot of her sentences with the phrase "... WITH KNIVES!!", it was her battelcry: "Ok, are we ready to take on this AV?" "I am... WITH KNIVES!!" "Hey, wanna go for some pizza?" "I like pizza... WITH KNIVES!!" "Do you ever say anything else, Spin?" "I say all sorts of things... WITH KNIVES!!" You get the idea. I know it sounds annoying, but I often got in some creative uses of it. I also had a couple of funny macros for her that then got topped off with her battle cry, such as "Hey! Aren't you the $name that dumped me last October?! It's payback time... WITH KNIVES!!" "Hey $name, let's play a teenage kissing game... WITH KNIVES!!" (those were pretty funny to pull on Dev. Earth and such) Anyways, yeah, you can see how I enjoyed myself playing her. And I'm not even an RPer.

She doesn't get played anymore either, due to altitis and a lack of direction to take her in. Someday I might sit down and give her a good respec - she has the sloppiest build ever, plus over a hundred mil in the bank thanks to a LOT of market work - which rather burned me out on marketeering. I'm hoping someday they let us email cash from one toon to another.

She was created right after the DB set came out and because so little was known about it at the time, I tended to avoid taking powers from it up until say her 30's - and yet she was still playable. She taught me to love Caltrops too... WITH KNIVES!!

Since then, I've found that I tend to drop toons somewhere in the late 30s to early 40s for any number of reasons, but altitis is a big one. I probably have about 7 to 10 I do intend to level all the way up some day, a few I even have builds laid out for. In the end I don't regret this; now whenever I feel like playing, say, an MM, I have at least two I can go to that are already pretty powerful. Plus it gives me a range of ATs to test arcs that I write.

If they didn't want us editing already-rated arcs, then why is it as easy as going in and editing them and clicking republish? Why do they allow us to tag a mission with 'work in progress', 'looking for feedback' and 'final'? Why would they aloow us to change maps, enemy groups etc.? I don't feel I have to be 'determined' when it comes to editing my arcs to be more playable and fun, I consider that part of the process and I would think the devs do too and are not standing in our way.

I have a Dom that's up around 44th I think. I don't think his Singy has ever once been taken down by foes unless it was in a situation I shouldn't have gotten involved in in the first place, ala ultra-team-wipes. And even still, my Dom tends to drop a lot faster (and more frequently) than he does.

I hope you're not actually detoggling Hide between each fight - it uses no END whatsoever now so there's no reason to ever unHide unless you want to show off your awesome costume (something I do a lot :P).

Basically with stalkers, it's wise to toggle it on soon as you log in and forget about it until you log in the next time (barring those vanity moments). This way you don't forget that you didn't have it on and try and mosey through that pack of Demolitionists or something. Plus sometimes ambushes are rushing to your spot instead of to you - if you keep Hide on, they'll miss you completely.

    Keep our fingers crossed!
  11. Sometimes when I'm composing the arc's text, I get second thoughts about chunks of it - "this needs to go after the mission accept, she needs to tell them this before she warns them about the sandwich, that chunk of text needs to go on mission 3 not 4", etc. So I cut and paste that chunk to wherever I want it, then go back and highlight the now-redundant text and hit delete.

Use to be that was that - text gone. Twice today I did that and it deleted all the text in that window not highlighted. And of course we don't have a Control-Z function.

This may have been just a one-time bug or something with my system, but after having it happen to me twice, I quit tempting fate and backspaced over any text I wanted to delete.

I haven't been playing a lot and certainly haven't been working on my MA arcs like I feel I should, so this seems new to me and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen it.

I just ran across that this morning. Currently it seems that highlighting a large chunk of text and hitting delete deletes everythingbut that text, so I had sat down and rewrote a large section of text, hit repub... waited for it to tell it me it was repubbed... then opened it again - no changes saved!

I was pig-biting mad about that, but then decided to give it a chance to refresh (something I've heard is needed), so I closed the whole MA window, waited five seconds, re-opened it and there it all was, every change saved. I only wish I had had the foresight to cut and paste the original text I had thought lost due to the delete...
  13. Just a quick note - I was standing around in the MA on Freedom's Cap this morning up to about 11 AM mountain time, working on my latest epic arc. During that time I kept seeing the chat stream by in broadcast and there were definitly a few people broadcasting for AE stuff (even if one was just a brute looking for a 'tiket[sic] farm').

When I closed my MA window to log, I saw about 6 to 8 other players standing around in there as well.

This is not the first time I've seen that.

I know that feeling; basically I just bite the bullet and keep fixing errors as they're pointed out to me, seems to be the only way to deal with it.

    For those of you interested:

We seemed to agree this was a solid 3-star arc; it had one play and we found it via the random button cross-reffed with 4-star arcs.

At first we groaned over the stoner refs, then started having fun making jokes about them ourselves, so that got better. I don't think any of the foes, hostages, etc. had bios. The main big bad in the last arc I think was an AV and had regen, and so did the surrounding healing minions - team wipe time! But we went back in and were able to take him down.

Overall it wasn't as bad as you might think from the title and Lord R. knows there's much much worse out there, but it needs more work to actually be good.

And then I had to log so that's the only one I can offer any info on.

This, pretty much. Some maps are just wonky and even switching the backl and middle options doesn't seem to help. As usual, try and do the best you can to adapt to it or change your mission to work around it, yah. :-/
  17. Players who actually leave feedback are generally pretty good about letting you know where you've screwed up. For spelling errors, you might try what I do:

    1) Google up an online spell-checker
    2) cut and paste your text into it, correct it and then CnP it back in
    3) ????
    4) PROFIT!

    new content??

Some players claim there's no new content.

    Devs make new content.

    Some players nit pic it.

Some players play it within an hour or two.

Two weeks later (or sooner), some players claim there's no new content.

This is the grand, eternal circle of life.

I disagree with the first (reservedly, because the cut in XP for some foes down to naught was a pretty bad idea), but I'll agree with you on the second; I've seen a lot of good suggestions on how to change that.

But I wouldn't call the thing broken, just "not functioning at level with its potential". I don't think the XP changes ruins it, just hampers it.

Still, thanks for replying with your brain instead of a flame.

My feeling is that the ZOMG THEY RUINED THE AE hyperbole from people who were used to being PLed to 50 over the course of an afternoon has lead to only vaguely if at all informed people avoiding the MA as if it were a plague on XP when in fact it is not, if you're careful to take a second to choose your missions. And, as I've pointed out before, sometimes you can play this game for reasons other than mere XP - like "fun".
  21. It never was in there, far as I know. I'd love to have that map too as it would be perfect for my third arc, but... *shrug*

Seeing how it is a pre-existing map, maybe some day Doc Aeon will be able to make it pop up in the MA - I'm certainly hoping so.

Oh jeez, it's gonna be the new Halloween event all over for me. I refuse to stand around and wait for these things to pop up as my time online is often limited and the chances of finding a PUG who have a decent clue what they're doing - assuming I even bother to learn enough to have such a clue myself - is sort of small. Out of about five toons I was more or less running during Halloween, I think I got a couple of badges on one and only one toon got all of them and managed to participate in a fully successful run. (Sure, maybe if I was only running two toons they could have all done that, but I refuse to let my play style be dictated by these things. Tough.)

Oh well, there's always ski run fun!
  23. "That's nothing! Those crummy FFGs I buy from Wam-Mart keep blowing up on me all the freakin' time! I pull one out of the box and it seems that just few minutes later - BLAM!"

"That's the way it is" is actually a good summation. I dunno why, but MMs seem to be the most WTH-little-quirks-plagued AT, such as the Mercs' Medic who always runs into melee combat and dies before he can, you know, heal people.

The good news is MMs are such awesome ATs no one really cares.

Except that when you pop it you don't get debt (or so I've heard). Pretty nice to have if you accidentally stumble into a crowd and want to to save yourself from debt, if not ignoble defeat.
