The City Scoop?

Really simple question that probably has a really obvious answer, but whatever happened to the City Scoop? The latest one was in July and now it's December... was it just unpopular? Did the creators quit or something? I actually enjoyed reading it. =(

The forum migration broke the HTML. It's being worked on.

Oh, hey, that's a not-so-obvious answer. I was expecting something like "nobody was reading it, so they stopped."

Guess I just have to be patient then. Thanks for the answer!

The forum migration has caused no end of trouble for layout (all HTML is automatically re-written into bulletin code for instance), and there is no way to control (or even predict) the results once it leaves layout to be "published" by the admins.

There is some work happening behind the scenes, but it is dependent on real life stuff and solving the "forums issue".

On behalf of the Scoop staff, I thank you for your compliments. I hope that there will be a happy announcement that the Scoop can make soon.

Couldn't it simply be published as a link to a PDF document? Or as a series of JPGs (bereft of the ability to link ), or some other such work around that doesn't actually involve it bein "on" the forum post itself? Perhaps published as a webpage, with just a link to it in the forums (it would seem your layout staff knows how to work in HTML).

I'm sure these have been thought of already, but it seems like these ideas could work.

Those solutions would require a serious real-money investment to pull off. Indesign is around $700, Photoshop is about the same. The Adobe Suite is even more (unless there was a student discount). Just not practical for the long term.

I will point out that all these ideas (and a couple more) are being explored by the staff.

I'm not sure if there's a free program that does PDFs, but GIMP is free, and isn't just for Linux systems, and would work for the image-only option.

I think I'd rather see an off-site version that allowed full HTML functionality, if the forums can't be made to work. JPGs and PDFs would seem unnecessarily clunky to me.

Actually, Snow, creating a PDF is pretty simple and free. It's editing a PDF that gets expensive. For example, I've got a virtual printer driver on my computer that will print literally anything to a PDF file, and it was completely free. All it needs is a program that will access a printer.

There's BullZip PDF Printer (http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php). You don't even need a printer hooked up for this one, as it creates a virtual printer to send it to when it creates the PDF. But yeah, it doesn't allow you to edit PDFs.

While free, Gimp has a steep learning curve. It also has the same problem as PDF printing -- static images.

Yeah, I guess I should have clarified that statement for everyone. There is the issue with links in PDFs (ie editing).

I look forward to its return.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

I never read the Scoop on any kind of regular basis, just once in a while; now I find the idea of it being no more kind of sad-ifying...

Keep working on solving the problems guys!

I'd be happy to give the Scoop it's very own website.

Life has kind of reached up and bitten everybody involved. We're hoping to have it back in the new year.
if anything, i would think it could link up with the Titan Network

It would have probably been more popular (or now missed more) if it hadnt been so easy to overlook to start with. Not everyone digs the forum or browses the wiki for something he doesnt know of.

Would be cool if the Newsie had it. Or the launcher screen. As it was, I didnt even notice it was gone.
Devs should nod it off or moderate it and make it official content, imo.

The scoop was on the launcher for a looong time (until they switched to the new web page launcher format). There were legal issues in making it TOO official though (AKA, marketing would want to approve it all and lawyers would have to skim through it and such)
