That's been my experience as well. No matter what I'm doing when I play, whenever I see an event notifications, it's always for him.

Again, no rush to 50. Enjoy the city or the isles, read the mission text and have fun.
Just wanted to re-highlight this. You'll hear people complain about the lack of post-50 content all the freakin' time - ignore them. This game, unlike say WoW, was designed to be fun from 1-50, not to start at 50. Altitis in this game is a way of life for most players and that's the way it's meant to be and was intended to be. WAI. The "lack of 50 level content" is not an oversight.

Best advice is to have fun and do what you feel like doing - no matter what, changes are even the worst builds will still be functional and playable.

    Hurray for AE

Every post so far= /signed by me.

I bit the bullet and bought the five extra arcs and I do intend to put something in every one of them.

Can't say I actually expect anyone to actually play them, but...

I remain hopeful that the devs are toiling away to work on the system and can make it workable.
  5. Having read a couple of these kinds of threads now, I think there are a couple of problems that they don't seem to bring up too much.

Firstly, not a lot of people are playing MA since the ragequitting because of the "nerfs" to the exploits. That left a lot of misguided and mislead people with the idea that there are no rewards to be had (samurai farms not withstanding; maybe they'll end up being a good thing for us after all).

If we had, say, 75% of the CoX population playing an MA arc once a week, I think the better stuff would get a chance to shine due to word of mouth etc., even without the "five stars or it's dead" problem - which is a real problem, especially with such a thin population playing MA arcs.

Secondly, there's just so bloody much to look at to begin with. Not only do five-star arcs show up first, but a bajillion of them do. Why even bother sorting through 4-star arcs when you could play 5-star all day and never run out? This I think is one of the main reasons that 4 stars=dead arc.

Solutions? Figuring out how to give decent rewards while deterring crazy loophole exploitation would be a good start and then making sure that every player knows about it. So much misinformation gets spread around by b'cast know-nothings that it's akin to learning about sex from fellow sixth-graders. I think adding back in a few badges to get player's attentions and announcing the changes with a pop-up when you log in would deal with a lot of that problem.

Changing the rating system might help, although I'm not knowledgeable enough to toss my opinion behind one or another of the suggestions.

As for that last problem... it's matter of scale, and the only thing I can think of that could change it would be a mass of people actually playing MA arcs on a regular basis again.

This reminds of conversations that newspapers must have about how to get people to buy newspapers... :/
  6. Congrats to the winners and thanks to Bubbawheat - as always - for running another contest. I agree that I think the holidays hampered the voting period, but c'est la vie...
  7. "Everyone knows that Star Trek is better than Star Wars."

I knew there was a good reason I always preferred redside. >:-)

This was fun and made me and my GF chuckle, can't wait to see more.
  8. 1) Use standard foes
    2) Go in
    3) Beat them up, beat them all up, lots of them
    4) ????
    4) Profit!
  9. I think it'd be great if they just focused on some minor tweaks and slight revamps for the low level material and zones - you know, the first thing new players in the door see and may very well use to form their judgment about the game on.

I hadn't noticed that, good catch. Although that is just concept art and very likely to be changed, I think it'd be pretty cool to get a really large pet. I don't mean like Monster Island large - they still have to be able to get around inside caves and block other players' view after all - but big.

It seems like it's been a long time since any details have been set free for us to gander at, I'd love to se a video or at least a few screenies of this powerset.

Not that that's not fun to watch.
  12. DB/Nin made for a fun stalker; my only 50 villain is one. Just about any good primary will be made fun with Nin, really.

The primary I would advise you forget about is Energy Melee. I understand that it was once the god amongst stalker primaries, and I ran one up to about 30 or so then wandered off due to altitis. I came back off and on after they changed the set around - mainly making some attacks take longer it seems - and it's like start-stop-go-start-wait...go-stop... In other words, not much fun at all, the attack chain doesn't seem to unfurl smoothly anymore.
  13. I have waaay more villains than heroes but that has to do with the way CoV was built upon the learning experience (and mistakes) of CoH. I prefer the ATs, the zones, etc.

I'm not normally one to pooh-pooh morality concerns, but the play between the two doesn't feel all that different to me so I just go with what seems to work better.

That does make for some interesting thinking. I went through something like this in my latest arc which deals with an alternate Earth where the sentient race that arose came from panda bears. The contact from that dimension refers to "our" Earth as "Primate Earth" and I was careful to keep her dialogue about her world vs. ours correct from her point of view; "our" world (or Statesman's dimension as you called it) would never be THE world in her viewpoint, just that place "you came from. It took a little thinking but it wasn't rocket surgery so hopefully the devs can manage it as well.
  15. TP Foe on a... uh, foe would be a royal pain in the keister, I'm not surprised they never gave that to anyone..

I've seen that on accepts and clue titles, but they don't show in the chatbox. Found it rather annoying and had to rewrite.

    All nicely said.

No, it would be more like if you told me that lower latitudes are nicer because they tend to have warmer climates and I came back with how I like winters (which is off the topic of latitudes in the first place). My response was specifically aimed at when you said

You are equating rewards (drops, XP) with "nice", that's an opinion. My opinion is that there are other things that I would describe as "nice" and that a farm is not one of them.

Besides, yeesh, I agree with you that they need to balance out the XP issue anyways.

one bad thing ae has is even with great stories ( will not mention names here) you have to wade through a lot of junk to get to the good stuff ( needle in haystack)
( cant even go by stars because some people get friends to 5 star them even thou its a bad story)
not everyone was cut out to be a comic book writer... no matter how many conventions/comic books u have under belt....out of 1000 maybe 100 are good and i think im high on that number
The Mission Architect: Stories & Lore board is your new friend, look for it under "For Fun!". People there post their arcs and others talk about them. You can read and find one that sounds like it's worth your valuable time - take a chance! - or read reviews of arcs that others have run and find ones that strike you as interesting.

Ignoring the AE content is silly and wading through the junk is too, when you don't have to.

Why, you could in fact play any or all of my arcs that I have listed in my sig! They all sit at either four or five stars (I don't have 'freinds' or SG mates bumping those numbers either) and have had over 200 plays combined so I must not be turning out junk. I have now saved you the trouble of wading through the MA junk and have shown you some new content - you're welcome.

    Wise words.

Try to take a look at your story/goal for your story and make sure that everything you put in actually has it's purpose in there, either as a solid plot point or "just for laughs" or whatever. Justify it's existence or throw it out and be ruthless about it, painful though it can be. If everything in there feels "justifiable" to you, then that's how long the story needs to be.
  21. (I'd like to mention something about Jack Kirby in here, but I might get stomped for doing so...)

    Happy Birthday Mr Lee indeed!
  22. I ran through the first one with the MA SG on Sunday and really enjoyed it. If I can tear myself away from creating my own arcs (I'm about three ideas behind production right now :P), I really must play the rest of these; the werewolf one sounds really appealing to me for some reason...

I anticipated the Christmas amnesia and that's why I didn't feel quite so cheesy about bumping my own thread (having actual news to add helped too). And that's also why I put it up for voting in the Player's Choice thing. And I have submitted it for review in one or two threads.

Really though it's not just feedback I want (although it's great - I forgot to mention above that BubbaWheat gave me some good feedback when he played it and I've applied some of his suggestions) or even uber number of plays, I just want to share my story with other players.
