Hurray for AE

I stumbled across this recently:

Quote:
"It's good to see you again, $HeroName. I'm afraid trouble is brewing. I have a report that some people were dragged into the sewers by the Vahzilok. You'd better rescue them before something terrible happens to them."

-- Door Mission, Sewers --
You progress as usual until you get to the first captive. Rather than being a civilian, it's a member of the Outcast gang. Just like in the street encounters, once you initiate combat the Vahzilok and the Outcast will all attack you. The final hostage, however, acts like normal: he can't be attacked and doesn't fight. He just thanks you and gives you a clue:

"I never thought I'd be glad to see one of you jerks! But I saw what they did to Zapper. Nobody ought to die like that! It was the one they call Sawbones that did it. You'd better keep out of the way, hero. The Outcast are going to even the score!"
Nothing special, except that this text (and a fair bit more that I didn't bother copying and pasting) comes from a text file I created in December 2004. Five years ago I was writing down ideas for CoH missions.

I know the AE has some problems, but I still think it's one of the coolest things the devs have ever done and I'm very glad to have it in the game.

I couldn't agree more. After I had already canceled my account, AE brought me back and is a big reason I am subscribed currently. Innovations of this kind are what will probably keep me subscribed until the bitter end.

I will say I do agree, its actually because it is so good, that I actually get annoyed that its languishing in its current state.

If I didnt think it was worth it, I wouldnt make such a fuss.

Boycott Ncsoft if they close down Coh.

Every post so far= /signed by me.

I bit the bullet and bought the five extra arcs and I do intend to put something in every one of them.

Can't say I actually expect anyone to actually play them, but...

I remain hopeful that the devs are toiling away to work on the system and can make it workable.

As much as I like the AE, I don't actually find the time to use it very often. The latest contest from Dr. Aeon inspired me to get back in and create a mission that I've had kicking around in my head for about a year. When I did, I was surprised to see some of the features that have been added to the editor since its inception. The spawn markings on the map are something people had been asking for since AE was first introduced, and I like being able to auto-complete a mission while testing.

There are more improvements that can be made, but it's nice to feel like the AE is still being actively developed.

Yeah. I hadn't done much AE work since i16 hit, although I bought slots as well. But the most recent Dr. Aeon contest meshed perfectly well with an idea I had been kicking around for quite some time. The basic concept fit perfectly: Statesman has been captured by Hellions or Skulls or what have you.

I play AE missions regularly, and seek out things that look like they have some story to them, the more offbeat the better. The ticket system enhances my non-AE experience and makes life much easier.

And I agree with all that's been said. AE is still one of the gems of this game.

When you're testing a mission, up in your nav bar there is a button labeled "Architect Options". Click that. A menu opens. It's full of testing tools: you can toggle invisibility or invincibility, kill any target, complete a mission, skip to an objective, teleport to an enemy or an objective... I think that's it. It's very cool. Really makes it feel more like a developer tool.

Geez to think I've been driving around, up hill both ways with square tires.

Thanks for the info

I use this all the time to see if someone I placed to spawn at the 'back' of the map actually did or not, without having to run all the way there. Ninja Run is great for that, but it's still wasted time if it's a big map.
