Against the WickerWork Khan!
Arc number 346904
@Clave Dark 5
Length: medium
Neutral (leans heroic though)
3 missions (small, large outdoor, small)
23 to 50
Custom foes on all maps

"Journey to Pandan Earth (a somewhat-parallel Earth where pandas are the sentient race) to save a princess from their deadliest villain The WickerWork Khan (or is he?) and his army of wicker warriors! [23rd - 50th level - AV, Elite Boss, Timed Mission - SFMA]"

Ever wonder what a parallel Earth populated by panda bears instead of humans would look like? Sure you have! Ever wondered what it would be like if that world was ruled by a near-parallel CoH/V villain who creates wicker puppets and a panda bear princess had contacted you for help because said villain wanted her for his bride? Again - you know you have!

First mission has custom foes, second has them again plus an AV, third has a different set of customs plus an EB - it is also a timed mission. This was meant to be at least a little challenging so gear up a tougher/higher level toon and/or make sure your difficulty settings are low (it is solo-able that way, my 25th level stalker didn't die once; bring inspirations!).

I had a lot of fun with designing my customs and hope you enjoy it as well. Any and all feedback highly welcomed!

And a big thanks goes to Soul Storm for designing the above poster - he's just that kinda great guy! You can find his poster thread here.

Wow, tough room. o_o;

Anyways, I've gotten it spell checked now and, based on another thread, decided to set it's level requirements to 23 to 50. So far I've had three plays and it sits at five stars.

I've also entered it into the player's choice voting, the thread for which can be found right here:

Have fun!

Well you did went and post it a few days before xmas after all. I've mentioned this before, but if you want a reliable way of getting feedback you are much better off submitting it to a reviewer than hoping that someone will blindly pick it up (and give you feedback to boot).

I anticipated the Christmas amnesia and that's why I didn't feel quite so cheesy about bumping my own thread (having actual news to add helped too). And that's also why I put it up for voting in the Player's Choice thing. And I have submitted it for review in one or two threads.

Really though it's not just feedback I want (although it's great - I forgot to mention above that BubbaWheat gave me some good feedback when he played it and I've applied some of his suggestions) or even uber number of plays, I just want to share my story with other players.

Currently sitting at 12 plays, 5 stars.

Why bother playing all those slick Dev Choice and five-star Hall Of Fame pretty-boys when you can help the underdog?!

Edit: Considering that I'm at five stars, ignore my "five star... pretty-boys" comment above and bask in the glory and uber-slickness of my five star arc!

Also, thanks to some good feedback I've sanded off a few rough edges (a stray typo, etc.); if you find any, please let me know.

I played Against the Wickerwork Khan for fun (not for review) on a 6-player pickup team and had a good time. The custom wickerworks were very cool looking and well-conceived.

My only gripe is that I thought the last mission was a little weakly motivated.
I'm not sure we had any reason to take down Princess YinYin; she wasn't shown as being especially evil overall. The only reason seemed to be the fact that she said, "Muhaha, I've tricked you into taking out the Wickerwork Khan! Now I will rule Panda Earth with an iron paw!"...if she had instead said, "Thank you, brave heroes, for taking out the Wickerwork Khan! Now I will rule Panda Earth with peace and wisdom" I would've totally bought it, and there would've been no need for a third mission. (Possibly I missed some extra info that explained why YinYin couldn't be left in power due to not being team leader.) Also thought it was kind of weird for the final boss of Against the Wickerwork Khan to be something other than, well, the Wickerwork Khan.
Anyway, the Pandas and Wickerworks were silly but fun. Enjoyed it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

What you say about the third mission is true, for the most part, I doubt you missed anything.

I created this mission mainly to showcase my customs designs and setting YinYin up as a villain was for a couple of reasons, one being I thought two missions was make for too simple a story, if not too short, for my tastes; two being that I like to twist expectations a little.

I anticipated that some players' toons wouldn't stand still for being manipulated and would want revenge, but I can see now that making her more evil would probably help with those who might not.

Maybe I should fit in something about her planning to come take over our Earth next. Anyone ready for a Pandan invasion event?

Well, the text box was too fat so it never made it in. :/

I did (slightly) update a couple of costumes though and added in a couple of objectives in the final mission based on M I Abrahms' review in this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=204830
I was going to put in more but I was already pushing the file limit; maybe after GR hits and the file size gets bigger.

Those new objectives are set to be needed to complete, but I was thinking maybe I should set them as unneeded; anyone who cares to weigh in on that is welcome to.

Also - woot! I'm at 51 plays now (I think it was) and it's still at five stars! Anyone know how many five stars you need to get Hall Of Fame?

Wow, I thought it was something more reasonable. Then again, I'm probably thinking of a different now-gone AE badge.

Hello again, just dropping a note that Soul Storm has come up with a great poster for my arc, as you can now see at the top of the thread. And it only cost me a billion inf! (just kidding, the magnificent fellow did it for FREE) You can find a thread about his poster offerings right here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=181570 Drop by and take a look, they're great stuff.

The only bad bit of news about it that I have is that I haven't had the chance to get this arc's custom enemies rebalanced for the new XP system, my time for the game has been pretty short of late. Fear not, that's my next project the second I can sign in again for more than five minutes, which means probably this weekend. But if the XP doesn't bother you, please give it a try before then and enjoy the customs.
