When The Words Stop #494099
I feel this is one of my most-realized arcs, certainly the most time-consuming as it was recently re-broken (but now fixed of course). So far it's mainly just languished in four-star hell, but... I 'm hoping for better. -
Tossing out When The Words Stop #494099 again. It was broken (again!) but I think I've got it all fixed now.

By the way, when does the contest start and what are the time windows for when "this year's arcs" must have been published between?

I enjoy all sorts of old, bad, cheesy sci-fi and whatnot, but I've never found a serial that I enjoyed; they just go on too long, repeat themselves too much, etc.
Feels bad,man. -
What, no Monty Python and the Holy Grail?! Star Trek II?! Star Wars for cryin' out loud?!
-
After some consideration, I remembered that right before Freedom struck, I made local copies of all my published arcs, meaning saved files on my computer. I just opened up my Missions folder and all the details and foes are still there, so if I have to, I can recreate every renamed enemy. I'm not sure how to "read" the info about the recoloring I did, but at least the bios are still in there.

WN, I'll look for that tomorrow (time for bed now) for sure, thanks for the pointer. I think from now on I'll be saving my work like that as well. *grumble grumble*
BF, it's a long story, but I simply cannot get this computer to load up a test server version of the game; I've tried numerous times following all the steps posted, but some step when I'm supposed to choose to do X my computer makes the choice for me without asking and of course chooses Y instead. Great idea, but beyond my capabilities right now. Damn. -
I'm surprised no one's tooted their own horn in here yet.
I would, but I've discovered my most recent arc has been quacked in newer and more exciting ways than I've heard of before. Assuming I get it fixed in time, I'll be back here, you bet. -
Hi all, I've encountered a problem with a pre-existing arc and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on it for me (and yes I've already /bugged it).
So here's the thing: I opened up my most-recent arc to check it and first off, the AE system has forgotten which map I selected for the final mish. Although I didn't actually enter the arc to make sure, I'm pretty sure I found the same map, so it hasn't been removed, so no real problem there.
Then I notice that the custom group of foes has lost most of it's members, only two remained out of, say, 15. Still, I can add them back so again no problem their either.
But a few of the ones that were dropped from the group weren't custom but renamed standard foes. They don't get listed/saved in your "Your Created Foes" listing (or whatever they call that). So I've apparently lost their bios (and their recoloring job to boot), which is pretty discouraging, considering how long I worked on them.
I'm not sure when this happened, it's been about a month since I last played it up. When I did so back then, I noticed a costume problem had invalidated a single custom, but everything else played fine - same map, same foes otherwise, etc. Considering all the updating we've been through, who knows?
Any ideas? Anyone seen the same thing with their arc? You might want to check yours too. -
Best possible course of action: don't buy stuff. It's good advice that also applies to pointless sequels: don't go see them.

Y'know, back when I started this game (bout 4 years ago), the AI, especially for following NPCs, was really much worse. Maybe something's gone buggy with all the new stuff and returned them to that state.
-
I've seen this sort of thing with NPCs in my first arc since I published it. You come across someone in a cave surrounded by foes, defeat the foes and they're supposed to run for the door; instead, they seem to stutter because of the slight incline of the floor. This can last for about fifteen seconds or more before they finally seem to figure it out and leave.

Back in the day my family had a "trash-80" which I learned to program on, but I got bored with that fairly quickly. Then a friend of mine one day got the first b&w Mac, you know, that had that crazy "mouse" thing on it? Using that, I was thinking "Yeah, this idea has legs." If only I had invested in the company!
I'll always have respect for Job's way of making sure the products were simple and intuitive to use, which is a trait still missing from so much of today's product design, whether it be computers or just about anything else (still looking at you Mr. Gates, after all these years). -

Quote:I'll second this. The old way wasn't the best, but the new way bothers me (maybe I'm CDO as well and just never knew it...), but that suggestion is just about perfect. Here's what I want: The option to hide certain items (such as the prestige sprints, as the common example) and make it so that when you hit Claim All, it doesn't claim hidden items. And of course, hidden items won't cause the email button to light up.
For bonus points, make it so that when we hide items, we get the option to hide the item on ALL characters (so that we don't need to re-hide them on every single alt or new character). -
Quote:I agree with the feeling that "the new shiny is now elsewhere" perception, but one thing I didn't see mentioned was that fairly early period of time when the devs nerfed the XP an arc could give, netting us about 75%; I can't recall the dates on that though. So what changed? Here are the scenarios I could think of (from all viewpoints): [etc.]
Suddenly AE was a ghost town and everyone was all "AE gives poor XP". Once the nerf was rolled back, that sentiment was pretty entrenched, such as the woefully out-of-date "lolstalkers". That alone probably kept a lot of people from sticking their noses into the place for a long while.
Things have picked up now that AE is a proven farming tool though, but I feel that the "grrr, AE!" feeling is still in the back of the player's collective minds in one form or another, perhaps spiced with a generous dose of "it's only good for farming". -

Quote:I recall chuckling. It's not that she was terribly difficult for the group, it was just the timing of it all. >.<
I didn't dislike seeing her there, and she fit and we were able to bring her down and all, but yeah, if I was soloing I probably would have at least tried to down her once, then quit upon first death if it was obvious I was going to continue to get plastered.
