1. I'm having this trouble with one of my two arcs as well. When I attempt to edit it, it tells me there's no errors, and none of the maps I used were anything special and haven't been yanked (far as I know). I petitioned it and they're checking into it.
2. Also, it's not wise to fight custom-made toons at difficulty levels you're accustomed to out in the real world of PC or RI.
3. I've seen the office one in an MA arc but I can't recall which arc it was in. I do recall it was a pretty large map though, like four floors, so maybe that'll help you narrow it down a little.

I'm so helpful. :P

candy

***** like candy!

(pardon the bad film quality)
5. [ QUOTE ]
I've seen this happen to a lot of other games. the designers implement something that seems really fun and really cool, but then it gets out of hand and ruins the game.

[/ QUOTE ]

Stupid devs, giving us fun stuff!

MA has it's problems but I'm still loving it. The one gripe above that does get a bit under my skin though is the "three slots" though. I can kind of see one good reason for it though - after MA's been in the game for six months and we've all filled up our three possible slots, we're going to start getting more plays when Player X has already been through all the dev choices at the top and all the 999+-played arcs at the top of the page and all the arcs by people in large SGs.

That's a point when he or she will actually start searching for MA stories by tags and so forth, leading them to your little precious gem of a story.

But yeah, there are those of us who would probably chafe under a system of "having only ten slots" too. I've been taking notes on stories I'd like to do and have had to drop a few - which is fine as weeding your ideas for the best is never a bad thing, but it also means that I have to pull out good ones too.
6. I had no idea about this until I saw the notice for this being the final day - better send mine in! My two arcs can be found in my sig for anyone else interested; the first one was the one I submitted.
7. [ QUOTE ]
At the end of the day, Architect is easy to do. It's an endurance trial to do WELL.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll second that. I'm still hammering away at my second arc to make it just so and doing little else. In fact, instead of being here I should be working on it. It's like homework, any excuse to put it off.
8. Different people play MA for different reasons. Some want "bring some friends" arcs while others want solo material (which is good for text-heavy story-arcs). Design what you want to design, mark it clearly and you're good to go.
9. [ QUOTE ]
"Because good storytelling is timeless."

that's just not true for me.

read any 19th century classic - they are terrible for me to read now.
storytelling is a skill and style which develops over time.

[/ QUOTE ]

Fixed that for you. Lots of people still read and enjoy stuff from the 19th century, just like some people enjoy reading comics from the 40s.
10. Arc Name: Too Many Bunnygirls!
Arc ID: 101165
Faction: neutral, but it leans heroic
Your global/forum name:@Clave Dark 5
Difficulty Level: medium
Recommended Team Size: soloable for higher toons
Typical duration: maybe 30 minutes?
Arc Synopsis: You can’t swing a dead cat around here without hitting another stupid bunnygirl mission. Ugh. Someone should do something about them, once and for all. Someone like you. (SFMA, HFMA, humor & rabbit puns)
11. Clave_Dark_5

Colored text?

[ QUOTE ]
Then the field you're trying it isn't one of the acceptable fields for color adjustments.

[/ QUOTE ]

This. Some do, some don't. The ones that do are mainly the mission intro/completed texts, nix on the dialogue ones.
12. I saw someone saying he was going to make an arc to teach people how to use the markets to hopefully help do away with "you guys who make money on the markets are ebil!" sentiments. Dunno who that was or if he/she did it.

I've idly kicked around the idea of trying to make one to teach some science, sort of like the calculus idea up there, but so far nothing solid has come of it.

I feel embarrassed, in that light, to admit that only published arc so far is about bunnygirls. I am sooooo deep.
13. [ QUOTE ]
For crying out loud, last night I saw some custom critters with   in their names!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

HA! I remember getting that myself. Course, I caught it during my seemingly endless testing period. It still looked like just "Character's name" in the blank, but in practice it kept coming up like "Character's nbspna" or something. I just ended up erasing it and retyping it and it was fine.
14. [ QUOTE ]
I'm a bit curious as to why people are considering cut-and-paste such a monumental hurdle.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can't describe it well, but it tends to drop itself not exactly where I had the cursor, but say five spaces over in the middle of a word. It also sometimes comes up with some gobbledygook that looks like html formatting tags that did not exist in the original text.

I love using cut and paste, being as lazy as I am, and still make use of it, but like one out of three times I end up having to edit and correct the resulting errors by hand.
15. [ QUOTE ]
If I remember correctly, if you select a word in the middle of a bunch of text the tags will appear at the end, so you'll have to cut and paste them where you want them to be.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think that's only how it works on these forums. I've never had trouble with colouring, italicizing or bolding text in situ in the MA creator window.
16. Easy method: go play some missions outside of the MA, take notes.

Non-obnoxious answer: ... uhm... I wouldn't mind knowing this too.

Knowing the way these things work (and the calls for editing/spellchecking etc. the old material), I bet their style guide is probably not 100% hard and fast.
17. I've been pondering this myself and it all grows more confused when you consider 50th level purpled-out monster-toons vs. my 12th level Corrupter trying to solo some mish, even the huge diff between my 30th Brute and the Corrupter.

It does help to keep in mind that many teams can pretty much steamroll anything anyways, and probably aren't there to read your boss dialog (sad but true, I always scan back over my chat log after a knock out a boss to see if I missed anything).

These days I don't worry about it so much and just focus on making what I want, labeling it with my best guess and hopefully a clear enough description of what they may find inside; "3 bosses" vs "3 AVs" should give the player(s) some clue as to what they're about to step into, so at that point the responsibility for choosing to solo it or not is up to them, not me.
18. Once published, click it and hit the edit button. Do what needs to be done, save and close I think and it's fine. I think it might take a few for the changes to show up when you look at it though. I changed some of the intro text on mine, didn't see it, walked away and when I came back later it was there.
19. [ QUOTE ]
I think you mean the animation/emote Captured (Energy Field), That's teh closest I can think of from your description.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think that's it. I've used it in my own arc in fact and got the purple light.
20. [ QUOTE ]
I think there needs to be a website, kind of like a combination of 'Rate your Professor' and a travel agency, where you can see a more sensible array of categories for player-made arcs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hm... Places like that are springing up like mushrooms after a spring rain.
21. [ QUOTE ]
Really, when you get right down to it, with as many people submitting arcs as there are everything will seem to be done to death.

A limited map set, limited destructable items.. limited power sets... limited file size.. it is the nature of the beast. They can only give us so much to work with. So saying that there are things that are done to death, while true, doesn't really matter. Limits are limits, you can push them but you can't go beyond them.

HOW we work with it is entirely up to each of us. I just finished my first arc the other day after numerous... and I mean numerous edits and revamps. The players I asked to help test it enjoyed what I had written but each of them had feedback I took into account when I next edited it.

What I've found is that it doesn't matter so much what the plot is or the villains are.. what matters is if it is fun for the people playing it. Does it convene the story YOU want to tell them. Did they enjoy the journey to the end of the story.. was it really the end of the story and did you get that across to the player?

That is what reviews and feedback are for and, in the end, is the only true measure of your success with the MA. Write what you enjoy but embrace peoples feedback to make it better and you will do well no matter how "done to death" someone might think it is.

[/ QUOTE ]

This makes far too much sense, I'd rather be passing self-satisfied judgement on people for writing MA arcs that contain elements I don't like.
22. MY arc listed in my sig uses a filing cabinet for the contact. I should make one using a fire hydrant as a contact (it's on the list, right?) that sends you out on a map full of warwolves. "Fire Hydrant's Revenge" or something.
23. I like these ideas a lot, I'll have to tag my work tonight. Have there been any solid words from the devs about the likelihood of a baked-in tagging system?
24. [ QUOTE ]
Why are we talking about him? Is someone seriously going, 'Well, this worked for SHAKESPEARE...'? 'Cos I've been checking around and at last check, no, nobody is Shakespeare. Well, except one guy, and he's not really into the forum discussion thing. He's dead.

[/ QUOTE ]

Anyone who puts in the effort has the chance to be the equal of Shakespeare; plus I was mainly just riffing off the "million monkeys with typewriters" idea in the first place.

No need for anyone to get huffy bout the Bard, he and his works can take care of themselves.
