Invalidated arcs with no errors

After yesterday's patch, all three of my arcs were invalidated and could not be played. Here's why:

Arc 1:
- Map removed (Crey clone lab map)

Arc 2:
- Map removed (burning forest map)
- Captive descriptions (had captives using the default CoH descriptions for their character type, which has become invalid as the text is now jammed into the Description field and limited to 300 characters)

Arc 3:
- Nothing.

The removed maps I can understand. The default description problems is new and probably a bug, so I can understand that. The one that's troubling me is my third arc, which would not play, but when I opened it in the editor it reported no problems. I republished as-is and now it plays fine.

Better checks those arcs after every patch, people, whether the patch notes mention anything that might affect you or not!

Arc 55669 - Tales of the PPD: One Hell of a Deal (video trailer)
Arc 64511 - The Wrecking Ball
Arc 1745 - The Trouble With Trimbles
Arc 302901 - HappyCorpse

My guess is that arc 3 was using something that got removed. Opening and re-publishing causes the arc to use whatever object is "next in the list" for the type of removed feature in question - i.e. the next map in line, or the next animation in line, or whatever.

This kind of thing is why I use Subversion - so I can track exactly what changes with each patch.

And for a while things were cold,
They were scared down in their holes
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines

Might have been the ever-popular detention field that everyone was using that got yoinked. When you republish, it uses another animation.

Well, I just played it through, and if there was any change, I can't detect it. Same map, same enemies, same objects. I wonder if an earlier (now fixed) change invalidated the arc.

I'm having this trouble with one of my two arcs as well. When I attempt to edit it, it tells me there's no errors, and none of the maps I used were anything special and haven't been yanked (far as I know). I petitioned it and they're checking into it.

If you have any NPCs in the arc doing the "Captured (Energy Field)" emote, that could be what's causing the error. When you go in to edit the arc, it won't tell you there's an error because it "fixes" it for you by selecting a default animation. Either let it select the default animation or pick the new "Captured (Energy Field)" animation and re-publish the arc.

Of course, you could have something different going on, but that's the thing I've seen that causes the "no errors but still unplayable" thing.

Under "Story Settings" does your "Story Description" have a line break in it? It's the text that shows up in the search window when picking arcs. It doesn't let you have line breaks in it which makes it invalid but doesn't tell you. Example

[ QUOTE ]
Story: Savior of Satire
Description: Help blah blah blah stop comedy from blah blah blah

Authors Notes: This arc contains 3 EBs and 1 AV, bring friends.

[/ QUOTE ]

Again, the line breaks make it invalid.

This is what was happening. I reset it, boom, all's good in the world of bunnygirls, thanks!

I had an arc that has been dead for XX days now (no idea, just noticed it today) that wouldn't play and wouldn't allow me to edit it. When I clicked the edit button, nothing happened. I don't know if maybe something blew it up in the first patch and then really blew it up in the second or what. Couldn't re-publish, couldn't edit, couldn't play.

Here's the odd thing, I had an old save that was about 95% complete and it opened just fine. I know I had energy field animations that were automatically altered and one of my civilian's data was all screwy, so I fixed that. Added the last 5%, re-posted (new ID unfortunately) and it worked.

Would like to see some sort of notification when changes come down the pipe that crash arcs. I don't know how possible that is, but I think it would be worth taking the time to add the code.
