Sooo... that's one down, one to go. Anyone else know about the map?

Ninjas, they're way better than pirates.

I'll give that a try. And this tag is not yet being widely used to hide farming missions?
[/ QUOTE ]
If I clicked on one with that tag and got a farm, I'd be SO quick to flag it for being a farm, moreso out of cussedness at getting tricked than anything else. I doubt that'll ever happen much. I could be wrong. -
I wrote my first arc before I played anything and had such a blast filling in every possible blank (well, almost) that it became very apparent to me that the devil (and the good stuff) would be in the details of a good arc. So yes. I stop after combat and check the chat tab for dialogue and such, I click on custom mobs before I attack, I carefull read clues and so on, etc.
-
I have two questions:
1) I thought i had heard that the sewage plant (or maybe it's a water treatment plant?) from Mercy was available, but after checking through the AE I couldn't find it. Did I hear wrong? If it is in there, what's it under? I have a mish in mind that could really use it (which means I'm DOOOOOOOMed I know). If there's anything even slightly comparable, feel free to toss that in.
2) When someone clicks a glowie and gets a clue in a mish, only he who clicked sees that one, right? What about mission complete clues, does the whole team get that? I'm contemplating updating my arcs for more mission completes so that everyone on a team will be able to follow the story. -
Search for the tag SFMA, "story focused MA".
It's also really helpful to look for advertised missions here on the forums as most of us are at least semi-verbal types. Why, I bet if you check any sig's you find on posts here you'll see one or more mentioned (hint hint, please looks down). -
My sig lists my two arcs so far. The second one has garnered one comment about the motivation for doing it being weak, which isn't totally off base, although the main purpose of it is as a humor-delivery device (careful, it might go off). The first is pretty good on that front I think, so maybe just stick to that one. It too is silliness, as you can probably tell from the title.
I've recently run and revised them through an on-line spell checker so there shouldn't be any real problems there.
Thanks for considering them. -

I want voices, When i talk to a contact i want then to have sound.. and i want an integrated voice chatter like dungeon runner or DDO
let our voices out
[/ QUOTE ]
Expletively NO, oh no you le don't, DO NOT WANT, etc. A million times no.
Being one of the few games without voices is one thing that drew me. The second I heard voices in WoW I knew for sure (there wasn't too much doubt but) that WoW was not for me. No one in America seems to know what voice acting means, they think it's just putting on a funny stereotypical voice to fit their cartoon image of the character but it's not funny it's damned annoying and wouldn interfere with my music or NPR listening while I play and would make me grit my teeth out.
By the way, [u]NO[u]. It's bad enough to listen to the Hasten noise flash out every 20 seconds at the Market as it is.
One more NO for the road. -

I also saw snake eggs and shadow cyst crystals on the list of destructable items.
[/ QUOTE ]
Woot! I had a story idea back before the MA came out that needs the eggs. Shame they still haven't made available the map my story needs (Hellforge, for anyone wondering). Oh well, half way there now. -

Marvel doesn't own the language, but the way our wonky US tax laws are written, they HAVE to pursue (read: sue over) any possible copyright theft to retain their copyright.
Have.
To.
Or else they risk losing it in a court case later when they really do have grounds to sue.
[/ QUOTE ]
This isn't true in the sense you're saying it is. DMCA law will require they remove any content that they receive a DMCA notice regarding, and that they put it back up if a subsequent challenge notice is sent by the person accused of placing the copyrighted materials on their system. The DMCA indemnifies service providers from responsibility for material that is placed on the system by their customers except in the cases mentioned above.
Thus, NCSoft does NOT have to proactively hunt for violations of Marvel's copyrights, but does have to take down arcs that Marvel swears (under what is considered a legally binding oath) is a violation of their copyrights. Its only if they fail to act once they get the notice that they forfeit their indeminification.
As for having to sue to retain copyright - this is simply false. You may be thinking of trademarks, and even then they're not required to hunt down all possible violations in order to retain it. It just gives them the right to prevent you from using things that might violate that trademark - not the obligation to do so.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think I expressed my understanding of how this works clearly enough - I'm saying that Marvel HAS to sue, not that NCSoft (it's Paragon Studies now though, right?) HAS to take something down. It's just the wiser choice for PStudios to take stuff down that might draw a lawsuit, it's avoiding risk. This becomes a self-imposed censorship due to the way the laws work.
And that if Marvel doesn't take action to protect their stuff via lawsuits, then that can be brought up later in another court case and used as defense by those Marvel is now suing. At least I think so, this area is what I'm most hazy on. I indeed might be confusing the copyright with trademark, it's been ages since I seriously looked at any of this stuff. I do know it's a huge tangled mess that lawyers love because it takes so much time to sort out and favors he who has the most cash.
I'm also not suggesting that Marvel HAS to hunt down examples of infringement, but the bigger the act of infringement, the more it behooves them to act on it - again, not because the laws instruct them to like a dictator but because it's a wise choice on their part.
BTW, I have heard of companies having people on the clock to hunt down infringements though, I know of a local bumpersticker co that got hit with a notice of legal torture from Paramount over some Star Trek stuff they were making without permission, and Warner's shutting down a Batman-themed comic zine (with a press runs in the dozens!) that DC shut down when the Tim Burton Batman film came out.

US copyright laws need some serious going over, but there's not much hope of that anytime soon on the horizon. In the meantime, the devs do what they gotta do and we have to go along with them because there's no other way to fight city hall on it right now.
[/ QUOTE ]
The laws aren't actually that bad - the only real issue is that they can be abused by dishonest people, especially if the victims don't know how to respond to fraudulent copyright claims. If you make a fraudulent DMCA notice, you can, technically, be charged with perjury.. but realistically, that isn't likely to happen. If you give your DMCA notice and I responsd with a challenge to it, then your only recourse is to sue ME - you can't sue the middle man, since they did exactly what is required by law.
[/ QUOTE ]
I still feel the laws are terrible for other reasons - and I didn't even know about the one you described there! I could list my reasons, but that'd be getting really off topic here.
And the topic I was addressing was basically "why are the devs being so draconian about the use of words and names, is it because Marvel owns the English language?" I might have a few of my details wrong, but the overall thrust is correct, from my understanding of the issues - if not, please let me know where I got that wrong. -
Everyone who responded to this thread should be ashamed of themselves!
Oh wait... -
Lord Nemesis certainly knows nothing about this sort of thing, I can assure you.

...That's *not* stoked about Going Rogue? For me, I see less pros and more cons. Like, if defenders make their way to villains, corruptors will most likely be ignored. People will prefer Tankers to Brutes. Am I just being overly-negative?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not at all. I'm sure that when it comes out and we all get a look at it, many players will come to the forums to voice their outright RAGE at the devs for the way some things were handled and for not including free cookies/poisoned apples. There will always be someone out there who agrees and disagrees, this just happens to be your turn. Mine was introduction of the market and loot I adjusted and have made use of it, just as most of us will this change too. -
Ana Cruz should play my first arc and Edwin Schmidt should play my second. If, ya know, they're in the mood for chuckles. If not, well... they should play them anyways.
See sig for my arcs. -

How can Regent be copyrighted? It's a word that basicly means "King's advisor". That's like saying Captain is copyrighted.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't use the word "thing" in a title. Like "Little green thing" as an objective. Or "Strange Thing" as a destructible object.
Marvel owns the English language, didn't you know?

On top of that, Marvel has many many lawyers and while our friends the devs can afford many lawyers themselves too, it's best to be too carefull than not careful enough as merely phoning a lawyer starts costing you hundreds of dollars just for him to hear it ring, much less picking up the phone itself.
So at that point it sadly becomes a form of soft censorship, whether to risk wasting money or not on a futile case that would keep the copyright laws happy. Money always talks; sometimes it keeps others quiet.
So if I were to use "Thing" in the game somehow that "might possibly be mistaken for Marvel's Thing*", and they saw it...?

* I cannot believe I just said that, ew. -
I feel my first arc (down there in my sig) has a more solid story than the second, but I've been getting good reviews on both of them (currently at about 15 or 16 players and four star averages). You might enjoy them if you want a humorous story to follow.
-
I had an overall title and subtitles for each of three missions in my first arc (see my sig).
In my second arc, due to story reasons, they don't change for the first two but then both get thrown out the window for the third and get replaced with something like this:
(title) ------------------DO NOT WRITE ABOVE THIS LINE-------------
(subtitle)YOUR COMPLAINT TICKET NUMBER IS 9834 PLEASE WRITE THIS DOWN
(first line of text) -------DO NOT WRITE BELOW THIS LINE ------------
(then a couple of <br>s to start the normal text)
Really, there's all sorts of fun possibilities one could have with formatting the text, but I haven't seen many folks working with it yet. I'm guessing the sky's the limit and we're just starting to look up. -
While on redside Sunday morning, I was finding that some common and uncommon salvage has already dropped back to just about "normal" again. It made me cry to have to start vendoring certain ones again.
Damn, now we need to find something else to cry DOOOOOOOM! over. -

If maps have a problem, even if we don't know about it, then okay, drop the map, fix it, and put it back. Preferably, do that in the same patch, so we won't notice it missing (though it might have a different ID number on it, so we'd still have to Edit an arc to fix it, like how costume parts would get changed, even though the end result is the same).
[/ QUOTE ]
Identifying and fixing the problem might not be a quick and easy task. The whole thing is still pretty buggy and "in development", by say September I bet everything will be going much more smoothly. -
[ QUOTE ]
I have taken careful notes here and now have infinite ways to promote my arc.
Unfortunately,, I have not come up with a good arc idea yet to create, let alone promote.
Oh, well. At least I'm having fun playing some of yours.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well you could use your super-promoting powers only for good by finding arcs you like by other players and promoting them... -
Because I want people to enjoy my story over PWNING BIG BAD BOSSES, I stick with bosses, not EBs or AVs. I think this may also help lower-level toons choose the mish - but I can't say for sure.
In other words it's up to you. -
What?! How dare you post an obvious advert for your arc like this!
We must maintain standards after all. If there were no such standards, what would stop me from coming in here and pointing out that if you like silly, silly medium-sized, 3 mission arcs, you should really try out "Too Manny Bunnygirls!" (ID101165) or "A.E.'s Premium Quality Mission: "guaranteed qualityyyyLOADING ERROR 0.000459" (ID#148476)
Why, nothing at all would prevent that. And we can't have that now can we?
-
Is everyone in this thread trying to play against custom foes at their usual "purple-foes-or-nothing!" difficulty settings?
If so, there's your problem right there.
I have yet to try anything above the second difficulty level as at that level red-con custom-foes tend to be dangerously close to killing me every battle. But I may get brave. -
[ QUOTE ]
Very impressive taking on such a massive undertaking and testing all those with various toons - and having to evaluate them as well. Hats off to you, it's more of a task than I would take on!
[/ QUOTE ]
Not only that but the offered prizes are pretty impressive too. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you have any NPCs in the arc doing the "Captured (Energy Field)" emote, that could be what's causing the error. When you go in to edit the arc, it won't tell you there's an error because it "fixes" it for you by selecting a default animation. Either let it select the default animation or pick the new "Captured (Energy Field)" animation and re-publish the arc.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is what was happening. I reset it, boom, all's good in the world of bunnygirls, thanks!
