Pretty much decided if nothing comes from the negotiations...that I am done with MMOs. I have tried DCUO, CO, GW, GW2, and SWTOR...none of which appealed to me in the slightest.
SWTOR is working as a nice 'solo' game for now, until I tap out the story lines. Just finished Chapter 1 of the Sith Warrior, and I gotta say it nailed how to let a character feel like a villain. -

The fact is as a user getting exposed to what should be (as I understand it for CO as it has been with CoH) a powerful selling point for the game - the initial character creation - it feels lobotimized and was unnecessarily unappealing. Compounded with zero mention of "more to come as you gain experience'. Just... poor implementation. -
I tried CO ages ago. I enjoyed the costume creator and jumped in... and literally never made it out of the tutorial zone - I found it too confusing and had a mission objective that I could not resolve (literally, I could not find the objective to achieve it). Since I was only browsing, I uninstalled and moved on.
I broke down and started to play around with it yesterday. I figured, since I never really got into the game to give it a fair chance I should try again as a way to scratch my tights and cape itch.
Just as before, I found elements of the costume creator I like. It seemed way more limited than I remember though, and I got a little frustrated that the number of options for appearance was so limited at the initial screen.
Also the initial power selections are horribly tight... An ice tank or a beast tank, ranged fire/bow/gun, and a couple of others. So incredibly limited. First impressions are huge, why would they cut off the initial creator like that? It seems counter productive.
I never got into the tutorial to try that over again... but I will sometime this week.
Suffice to say, my expectations remain kind of low. -

But yeah, it took a whole gaming guild of 50+ people, gaming together for 2+ years in a very tight-knit community, most of whom are rabid fans of both Star Wars and MMOs, and within 2 months most of them could not bear to log into it because it was just bad. And these are some people who were ready and willing to completely overlook the warts and love that game.
The co-op story mode was fine and fun. I would have paid for a single-player or co-op version.
But the actual gameplay was little more than WoW-with-lightsabers, and the content had zero depth of play. Most of the systems were awful and balky (don't get me started on token drops, the UI, or the awful auctionhouse interface, gah) and it really seemed like they blew their whole wad on the story and forgot to develop the actual game to support it.
While there's the occasional teaming and the market, I'm largely playing it as a solo game and loving it. I loved KotOR, and see this as a great sequel, and it has everything that Bioware has done well in solo games (except I really want more than 3 dialogue options). That probably reinforces your point that when I run out of new story, the shine will fall off, but it'll go F2P about then and I won't have to pay more, which will be nice...
But, outside Bioware's established space I can say I see that it is limited in the grindy/grindy space
And customization is somewhat limited. Adequate ranges of customization for a solo game don't hold up well when everyone runs by looking like you do... CoH has definitely spoiled me in that respect.
Yeah, I'd say Bioware had an opportunity to redefine the MMO space the same way they did the solo story games, and missed the boat.
(In a perfect world, full Bioware story telling ability techniques with CoH customization and loot/market model running in a nice pretty enivonrment/model engine like the Secret World's.) -

I find Crusader Kings II to be a ton of fun, and it has filled my non-MMO computer time lately.
I haven't gotten around to ME3, yet.

A friend wanted me to try out Dungeon Fighter which looked like an interesting game, but it's Nexon. Nexon has large investments in NCSoft, and I won't touch anything related to NCSoft. I'll also make certain anyone else mentioning NCSoft/Nexon games understand how the situation with CoH went down.
TSW looks interesting. The "no levels, no classes" comments on the site bring back fond memories of one of my favorite games: Ultima Online. Any game that can balance character abilities and progression without classes or levels certainly has my eye. -

I log in... and every minute I'm there I get more and more depressed. It ends with me just hovering or standing still while I stare at the screen... and log off. -
It is a fun game, with an intriguing power selection/development process and a flavor of superheroes (one great NPC even calls you such at one point). But, while the setting has potential the story felt a little too one dimensional and stilted to keep my intererst beyond the trial, though.
Off the cuff, probably 7 stars. Definitely worth a fair shot and a spin around the block. -

Really?) when I leafed through them, Prepare to Die seemed a bit more hardcore. I did land on a few pages that had sex scenes which I'm not a fan of -- they tend to bring the story to a screeching halt because authors (and filmmakers) never seem to use the scenes to do anything with plot or character -- but the action scenes I browsed through more than made up for it. I got it, so we'll see. -

I don't think I could have met a better group of people to make a new MMOer feel welcome.
DoIDD was my only SG home on Justice for lo these many years, even when near the end I was the only of us keeping the lights on.
The custom art print 8 of us got hangs proudly on the wall over my monitor.

There's some truth there I suppose. MA was touted as an alternate path to 50 and the future of the game. That reality never manifested in part due to the anti-farming changes. -

Not an ideal by any means. But better, IMO, than other games' loot drops that have no purpose (for crafting or power slotting or what have you) other than specifically existing for no reason other than vending.
