There are at least two groups of people doing circular arguments around logical fallacies:
1) "The flipper has the lowest list price" and "The flipper has the highest bid price" -- which is only true in small instances.
2) "Flippers are evil and raise prices and ruin the game for everyone one". Also true in small instances: flipping does tend to raise the minimum price that one would need to pay for an item.
Both sides are equally wrong in asserting that their side is a general truth. -
Can a player who doesn't have Going Rogue switch sides?
-
Quote:I opened my market transaction window. *EDIT*I am a flipper.Quote:
No, I would not.
That's a flipper.
The original poster said some statements that are true... except when they are false. I simply pointed out the second part. -
Quote:I made two points in my original post:But at any given time, they are selling for less than anyone else is -- meaning if they weren't selling that item, no one would be selling it for that low a price right then.
Lister lists some alchemical silver, specifying an asking price of 10k.
Flipper buys alchemical silver for 11k, lists it for 50k.
Buyer buys it for 50k.
So, clearly, if Flipper hadn't been there, Buyer would have gotten it for ten, right? WRONG. Here's what really happens:
1) The "listed for less than anyone else was willing to list it for" line needs an asterisk next to it.
Quote:But at any given time, they are selling for less than anyone else is...
Lister lists some alchemical silver, specifying an asking price of 10k.
Flipper buys alchemical silver for 11k, lists it for 50k.
B) Flippers compete against, and thus "hurt", patient and intelligent buyers and sellers.
You concede that point when you said "True" and quoted my restatement of that point.
Quote:In general, though, most people find that over time, they are better off when prices are more stable. Because that buyer who used to be getting something for 50, and is now paying 70, is also a seller who used to get 50, and is now getting 70.
Call it nitpicking if you like. But saying "The flipper lists items for less than anyone else" isn't always true. Saying "Flippers help everyone" also isn't true.
Still Smurphy here: I assure you, I don't need an explanation of how flippers are a stabilizing force.
Quote:... allowing people to assume they are getting screwed. Their words, not yours or mine...
Quote:When the flipper bought the item he was the highest bidder. No one else was willing to pay what he was.
When the flipper sold the item he was the lowest seller. No one else wanted to list for lower than he was.
Quote:As close as it seem some times, these 2 points in time are in fact separate places in time and cannot be applied to your "could have" or "should have" mentality.
If there were years between the transactions, would you make the same assertions?
That's a flipper. The flipper is buying at 225,555,556 and selling at something over 300M. There's at least 5 transactions that occurred today. Someone is listing the items for less than the flipper. Also, other players may be listing their Hecatombs for sale in the 230 to 300M range. Some of those sales may go to other players.
Stating "The flipper is the person listing the item for the least" or "The flipper is the person bidding the most" is only true for those moments in times where a flippers transaction goes through. Those two statements need an asterisk or a further explanation... like the one you eloquently wrote above. -
Quote:It is also factual that the person the flipper bought the item from listed the item for less than the flipper listed the item for. Which brings us to my point that: Saying "flippers are willing to sell for the least" is only true for one specific moment in time. *Unless the flipper is using a flipping strategy where the flippers bid higher than the flipper lists. Simply write down what a flipper is bidding, what a flipper is listing at, and an example of a price that another party may list at that would fill the flipper's bid to demonstrate I do not properly grasp this concept. And a gallon of gas used to be $1. Now its $3. Relevant? Not really. I still have to pay $3 for my gallon of gas. The fact that I used to pay $1 is meaningless.
As I see it, its semantics in a way that eludes to flippers somehow getting a better deal than everyone else.
It is factual that a flipper must be the highest bidder in order to purchase said item.
It is factual that a flipper must be the lowest seller in order to sell his item.
Quote:Debating what he paid for it vs what he sold it for and putting semantics on it leave people feeling that they're being screwed. The fact is, they're not. There is no special club for flippers that gives them access to items not available to the general public. They are under the same constraints as everyone else.
Quote:The only, and I mean the only, advantage the flipper has is patience. You can out bid a flipper by 1 inf and undersell him by that same 1 inf and you have "shut him down".
Quote:Showing that the flipper is screwing someone because he bought it for what someone was willing to sell it for, then turned around and sold it for what someone was willing to buy it for is just silly.
If an item regularly fluctuates between a price of 50 and 100 a patient and intelligent buyer may buy at 50. A flipper, or 5, might come along and compete with one another and change the price range to 70 to 80. Thus, the person who was buying at 50 is negatively affected. Had the flipper not existed the patient and intelligent buyer would be better off.
Take careful notice that I did not use the words "screwed over".
Please read more carefully next time. -
Quote:Smurphy: A significant amount of the "factual, observable, provable principles" in this thread are wrong. Flippers compete against, and thus "hurt", patient and intelligent buyers and sellers. The overall good/bad can be debated but at least one person would be better off if flippers did not exist.I think this is the only forum for this game where you can start a thread about a factual, observable, provable principle and have a squadron of people descend on it to disagree with an argument that sums up as "Oh Yeah?"
The "listed for less than anyone else was willing to list it for" line needs an asterisk next to it. Technically true at the moment in time the flipper gets the sale. My understanding of flipping is that one attempts to purchase an item for a price that is lower than one sells it for. Perhaps the original poster has developed some new flipping strategy where he sells at a price that is less than he buys at. Someone else listed the item for less than the flipper did at a recent moment in time.
So if a flipper lists an item 100 they likely buy at 50 or 70 or 80. Someone else listed for 50 or 70 or 80 at some point in time. So "listed for less than anyone else was willing to list it for" is only true in that one moment the flipper gets the sale. -
Stick with the character you have.
Press F1-F2-F3-F4-F5 more often. -
Quote:Shame he has empirical evidence on his side.Q_Candy: so by adding more ways to get purples they raised the prices? Nothing to do with people giving up their 50's for a month to play praetorians, who reached 50 and now want purples?
I tell people WHY I'm putting them on ignore, and in this case it's because you make no sense.
Income has changed little. Prices on one type of item have decreased significantly. The money saved on those items is being spent in other places: mainly on purples. "Adding more ways to get purples raised their prices"?
Yes, yes it has.
Luck of the Gambler = 2 Alignment Merits
Luck of the Gambler = ~120M Inf
1 Alignment Merit = ~60M Inf -10% fee = 54M Inf
Purple Recipe = 20 Alignment Merits
Most Expensive Purple Recipe = ~400M Inf
1 Alignment Merit = 20M Inf
Thus, If you had 20 Alignment Merits you could get 1 Purple recipe OR
10 Luck of the Gamblers, sell them on the market for 110M Inf each for 1.1B Inf. That's 990M Inf after fees. Then you could buy 2 of the fancy expensive Purples you want and pocket the extra money.
Choice A: 1 Purple Recipe
Choice B: 2 Purple Recipes + Millions of Inf -
Some interesting replies. I am torn between quoting some and saying "I told you so" or perhaps "You were wrong". Some likely responses people may post:
1) "Now is too soon to draw a conclusion. Wait longer".
I'll post another picture in 2-4 weeks.
2) "ZOMG that picture is photoshopped. I can tell from the pixels."
You got me.
3) "Just wait until people earn enough Hero/Villain merits to get purples".

Who would choose A?!
Your response: See Signature: "Thank You Devs for Merits!!!!"
My Response: Touche (An acknowledgement of a hit; An acknowledgement of the success, appropriateness or superiority of an argument) -
Why were the new Merits created to decrease Task Force Recipe prices and increase Purple prices?
A) Intention
B) Oversight
C) Ignorance
Feel free to disprove/support this post with more comprehensive comparisons or with more up-to-date #s at a later time. -
What if I had my stuff duplicated? It's a lot of stuff.
-
Unfortunately, I was the benefactor of this rollback. I received a large sum of items/e-mails from a player who is no longer active. I claimed all the e-mails yesterday. Today the items/cash are in my inventory and e-mails back in inbox.
I'll see if the devs do anything about this. If not, the people above me who said they lost stuff will get the appropriate funds. I'm fairly confident what got duplicated for me covers all of the lost items. -
Here's a Katana/WP build. It has lots of XP debt protection, and pretty solid run speed buffs as well.

My build has both Sweep and Attack Vitals, good endurance (solo pylon by hitting 1234 for however many minutes). I have more defense, but no Strength of Will. Focused Accuracy instead of Tactics (which may be a mistake).

I've gotten to 45 on a Storm/Ice defender using similar rules. No deaths of any kind in my rules. And I was less concerned with the items rules. I died from a thorn tree 1 shot on a STF. I had already completed an Imperious TF. I could have easily made 50 by avoiding the riskier content, but then what would be the point. I play with similar rules a lot. No solo (since soloing to 50 without deaths would mean almost nothing), no deaths, mostly PuG (but do TFs from globals sometimes). My other fun rule was I would never leave a team for performance reasons. Just because a team sucked, that was no excuse to abandon them like a wimp. I've seen a few teams wipe 2-3 times and I survived it. I don't really care for the organized hardcore groups because I really enjoy the unpredictability of PuGs. Seeing the same people the whole time would take away some of the excitement for me because we might actually play together well. If you can get through the 20s, things really get a ton easier after that. I've had a Tank, Blaster, and Peacebringer up to 25 or so, and an Arachnos Soldier to 22. Good luck with your group!

According to Paragon wiki: "MPM: The desired Minutes per Merit, currently 3.7"
The Imperious TF currently gives 26 Merits according to Pwiki. 26 x 3.7 = 96 minutes. That's an hour and a half. If you are running this for the first time and going rather slow, fighting the spawns normally and for the first time, then I would expect somewhere in the 90 to 120 minute range. -
I'd like to bid one dollar, Bob.
Er, Drew. -
Link to huge open office sheet. Link to excel version The sheet contains pictures and numbers. I put up an open office and an excel version. Hopefully they work. I haven't had a chance to test either.
This file contains price data from 3/24 and 6/24 on the Red and Blue markets. I expect to collect data around 8/14 and 8/31 as well.
I did not collect the data in a scientific manner.
*EDIT* The spreadsheet is very helpful when people say things along the lines of "Redside is like ____" or "blue prices are higher" or "the markets are so alike/different". -
I believe America's karma debt incurred from Green giving us a freebie is now paid in full. Those calls were... interesting.

I just finished an ITF with a bunch of much more casual players than the standard Virtue ITF group. There were quite a few useful lessons learned in the TF. It took just over three hours to complete (3:05), and really were tested to the limit. The long story starts here, skip to the smiley if you are impatient.
I was on my Claws/Elec stalker (don't laugh too much). My standard lurking around Cimerora led to me seeing a broadcast for an ITF starting up. I threw a quick message at the team leader, and got a response back saying something about not seeing me in the zone search and to tell them when I got there. Thinking about this now, this should have been my first sign of what was to come.
The team ended up with 3 Blasters, a Controller, Stalker, defender, Tanker. We waited a minute while the leader tried to find a controller or defender to add to the team. A level 36 Scrapper found their way into the last spot. This made me happy as we could finally get moving. I was the only villain on the team so had no real clue what powersets anyone was.
We get started, I hop into the first mission and get moving with my normal ITF mindset, Go! I walked into the first pack and waited about twenty seconds, and finally gave up and started fighting them myself. With Shockwave and Ball Lightning I can use my 30% ranged defense and positioning and not get slaughtered. For a little while anyway. After 30 seconds more, no one has still shown up to fight. I go down swinging. I knew at this point it wasn't going to be any normal ITF.
The first mission proceeded without too much excitement, but it was obvious we weren't overpowering the enemies. The leader starting teleporting everyone to the back side of the altar area, so had some experience with the TF. We did solidly well and got Sister Sol free, but I ended up Assembling the Team to the altar to finish the mission as the ambushes were closing in. Mission complete with only one person left alive.
The second mission fairly uneventful. The dark primary tank was in his element, so things went well. Skipping to mission three, we fought our way to the general pack with the bosses who just demolished the tank. He started using hover tanking as a creative solution. It's quite odd for a team on Virtue to actually fight this mission without pulling. It was a fun change of pace and surprisingly not that laggy. Then the tank disconnected. 3 generals left, the computer, and Romulus all still to go. It was gut check time.
While the team waited around for the Tank to come back, which he never did, I beat up on the computer to pass the time. I eventually get some help, and some how we actually took down the computer without all that much trouble. I used a whole bunch of tier 3 inspirations thinking if nothing else I would take it out alone, but Howling Twilight did well for us. I ended up guiding the team the rest of the way since with how underpowered the team was we needed all the tricks we could get to win. We decided to go after the EB general pack next. I have no clue how, but we won without much trouble. It still doesn't make sense to me how that happened.
I pulled the last general, Rommy, and Requim. We beat them all up eventually. There was some Rommy run around since I was using all my ranged attacks on him and the AI goes nuts if it can't fight back. Darkest Night of course aggroed all kinds of stuff while this happened. We won and got our chance with 7 people to go after the last mission. I suggested we try the Rommy battle first so we would know if we had a chance before spending too much more time.
By this time I had a good idea of our team. My /elec Stalker, AKA our tank. A regen scrapper. A Plant/Emp controller who didn't seem to pass out a ton of fortitude. 3 blasters, lots of pistols. And last the dark/dark defender. Obviously there is no way we are going to win a fair fight. Or even a close to fair fight. I remember from way back when that it is possible to ranged damage kill the healer nictus with single target attacks. I test it out with Nemesis Staff, and then Charged Bolts. It works!
So we spend what feels like forever with all our ranged damage characters shooting the Nictus while out of it's range. We kill it, and go to high 5 eachother. We are all stunned, and we get eaten for breakfast. We regroup and do the same to another nictus, this time it was the spawner.
Then comes my favorite moment in the TF. The spawner and the AoE Nictus are stacked on top of each other. Everyone is targeting through me to make sure we are focusing our fire. We kill the spawner, get stunned and smashed just like before. Everyone goes to the hospital, and people start saying stuff like "It looks like we failed", "It was a good try". They were getting ready to quite because they didn't know that we took down a nictus. I had to yell that we just need to ranged blast one more nictus, then simple beat up Romulus which we already did last mission then we win.
We made it all happen eventually. A lot of ambushes and crazy things happened. The controller crashed at some point. We did the hardest couple things with only 6 players. I learned that at least 3 of the players on the team were in the same room as each other. One of them said this was their 4th try to finish the ITF. So that brings me to the moral of the whole story.
There are players who have soloed this TF. This group of friends who can coordinate in the same room had enormous difficulties with it. Even with a team of 7, it was pretty much impossible for them to complete it without someone deconstructing each encounter. The difference in power between the high end and low end characters is hard to comprehend. On the horizon is even more power for the high end as well. -
Neither do I. Just a bad copy/paste job when I had a few in a row that were similar. It's been updated to "Pure Anything" like it should be. I updated the Copyright thing as well. Smurphy makes a bad secretary.

Bad Team Bingo
1) Join a Pick up Team
2) Load a card
3) Check off squares you complete
4) Shout out "BINGO" in game if you win
The new version of Bad Team Bingo is set up for Going Rogue. The new version of Bad Team Bingo is more difficult. Accomplishing a "Bingo" is a rare and noble achievement worthy of epic bragging. Bad Team Bingo is for entertainment purposes only. One should read the squares in the proper tone of voice with tongue firmly planted in cheek. "If _______, you might be on a bad team". "If you are on a team with @Smurphy or @Chriffer you might be a redne--I mean might be on a bad team."
This thread is the official Bad Team Bingo thread. Please report feedback, bugs, issues, concerns, suggestions, and other comments here. This thread is also where official rulings for Bad Team Bingo squares will take place. Feel free to ask questions whether or not your team situations satisfies a specific Bad Team Bingo square.
Generally, the "spirit of the square" and NOT the "letter of the square" is the deciding factor. For example if a teammate says "Dude, I'm a 40 month Vet I got this" you could check off the "20 Vet Badges" square because the "spirit of the square" is satisfied. However, if you and a friend are on a team and you ask him to say "Bingo" and he does, you would not be able to check the "Another says Bingo" square despite the "letter of the square" being satisfied. Asking a friend violates the "spirit of the square": another person saying "Bingo" unexpectedly.
New and exciting Bad Team Bingo features are on the way!
Tell your friends to google for "Bad Team Bingo" to check it out, it is the top result. -
No, I specifically requested not to be able to search for any PBAoE recipe that has End Red in it. Being able to do things like that were unfair to the players who put the time into clicking their way through the list of enhancements. I'm glad to see the searchers get what was coming to them.

(Smurphy): I rarely farm but here is Herostats data of my Brute doing silly things.
19 and a half minutes. 29 Recipes. A safe guess would be 1 purple per hour. I think it averages to one purple every other run. Obviously, that's not exactly "normal character abilities doing normal stuff".
So that's some pretty good income. I think if one did boring stuff like that regularly over 6 weeks they'd reach 6B. I don't plan on doing the math nor a test run. Or was it 3B in 6 weeks? or 3B in 6 days? I wasn't paying enough attention.
