Quote:This is my only complaint as well. She's been a superhero for many of her 80+ years, and has witnessed just as bad--if not worse--at the hands of the Rikti and the Praetorians. You'd think she'd have more of a "time to get down to business" face on...You'd think she would react with something other than a face that seems to suggest "I'm a damsel in distress, where's a male übermensh who can protect me?"
Otherwise, I am completely blown away. I'm really liking everything I've heard about Issue 21... and I'm hoping there might still be a few surprises tucked away that we've yet to hear about (Powerset Proliferation? Maybe? Pleeeeease?).

Sticking with Warworks on my Scrapper and Seers on my Stalker. They fit the characters better than any of the new stuff.
Probably go Robotic Drones for my Grav/Kin Troller and either Storm or Polar Lights for my Fire/Rad. (That's assuming I manage to play those characters enough to unlock the slots, though.) -
Quote:There's different currencies. Paragon Points are for spending in the store. With the purchase or subscription earning of Paragon Points, you will also be awarded Paragon Reward Tokens, to be spent on the new equivalent of the Vet Reward system.Hmmmm, perhaps the 400 PP stipend VIPs get IS what determines their monthly movement upward in the system. Perhaps it takes 1,200 PPs to move to the next Vet tier.
Quote:Which, of course SOUNDS like you can buy your Veteran standing... which is discouraging. But, what it may mean, is that it can get you to certain thresholds but not enable you to just buy your way to an 84 Month Vet on Day One... I hope that is the case. (BTW, I am no where near an 84 Month Vet... just somewhere in the 48 Month area.)
Personally, I'd actually like to pay for the "Loyal Customer" perk on my second account, which just got City Traveller earlier this month. It's the only big thing that separates utility of my accounts right now. -
Quote:No, I stated that it wasn't up the developers to cater to someone with ADHD the same way that they need to cater to people with colorblindness, migraines and epilepsy. The fact that this game exists should be enough for those players with ADHD.I'm doing no such thing. You stated that ADHD wasn't a legitimate disability and if you've dealt with someone who has it as you claim you should know it is.
And I'm not going to bother discussing anything else in any of your posts. You don't need the Incarnate rewards to play the game. They are in no way required. -
Quote:Honestly, that's in their best interest as a business--they're making money by providing a service. They should be more interested in catering to the "buy it now" crowd than those who are willing to wait for things to go on sale.I was a little worried when I first heard about the F2P Paragon Point Store, but from what I read it looks like it will be ok. As long what I mentioned above doesn't happen.
I expect that we'll see a LOT of new content get dumped in the stores upon each future issue's release with the point total adding up into the thousands, with a slow trickle of new things added month to month between issues to keep interest up and points getting spent.
Also keep in mind that, with CoHF/i21's launch, you'll have at least 1200 points (providing you keep your subscription active between now and then) banked up--if not more! If they put 2000 points worth of costume options and temporary powers in the store on the launch date and you've got 1600 in your pocket, then you can't really blame them if you're the one who feels the need to pay an additional $5 to get them immediately.
(I'm in the same boat. In the situation listed above, they're almost certainly getting my $5.) -
Quote:You can bank them and use them later.I have a question regarding this. Do these stack or is it "use it or lose it"? I would imagine it is the later.

Basically, they're releasing two new story arcs every month (one for Heroes, one for Villains) that allow you to work alongside one of the big name heroes and villains of the City of Heroes universe to achieve a goal. Each arc will be 3-5 missions long.
You might stop a bank robbery with Synapse, or do the robbery yourself alongside Ghost Widow. While those are cheezy examples, it should give you the idea. -

Well that was a moment of stupidity on my part. I believe you are correct, Junkie.
I even wrote that last post JUST after I did a test session with a client's PC and used his "Default DirectSound Device" to test audio playback in some software. *facepalm* -
Had one of those all through high school. Finally asked her out last year (only twelve years after graduation). It was fun for a couple months, but it became apparent that it wasn't going to work out due to religious differences, so we split amicably.

Currently, there are 5 Incarnate slots available.
The first is Alpha, which acts a "global enhancement" of either Damage, Accuracy, Endurance Reduction or Recharge Reduction, each with some side bonuses (such as Range, Mez, etc.) as you work your way up the tree. Anything that can take one of the above enhancements can be buffed by your slotted Alpha ability. If you get your Alpha ability to at least the third level, then it will grant you a "level shift" that makes your level 50 character "50+1"--you effectively gain all the benefits of being level 51 with no penalty to your rewards and drops for fighting level 50 enemies.
Alpha can be slotted up entirely via regular content using Incarnate Shards and salvage from the late game TFs, or you can slot it via the different drops from Incarnate Trials. The other four slots require experience gained via Incarnate Trials to unlock and the drops therein to slot.
Just as a quick rundown, the other four Incarnate slots that are currently available are Interface (a proc that adds debuffs to any non-temp power attack that deals damage), Judgement (a heavy damage AoE attack that can be used every 90 seconds), Lore (a summonable pet with options for both attacking enemies and buffing you) and Destiny (an AoE player buff or heal).
Lore and Destiny can each grant an "Incarnate Shift" once you craft them up to the third tiers. Incarnate Shifts are only available during Incarnate Trials. With Alpha, Lore and Destiny all slotted at tier 3 or higher, you can appear as "50+3"--again, effectively level 53 in terms of damage, accuracy and all other benefits you gain from level, with none of the associated penalties to enemy drops. -
Quote:Time Manipulation has been stated to be included for VIP subscribers. Not free--if you drop your subscription, you lose access to it, but you keep if as long as your subscription is active. Access to Time Manipulation can, of course, be purchased by Free/Premium players.Say time manipulation costs 1200 points. That means that you'll have to buy PP or wait 3 months after issue 21 comes out to purchase it...we don't know if vets are getting that powerset free. It's likely they're not.
The recent Massively.com article implied that the "Titan Weapons" powerset coming in the future will require additional purchase, though.
Quote:So say an issue comes out and it has 2 powersets at 600 pp, a costume set at 400 pp and another 400 pp for some emotes/costume changes and 200 for a small story arc with badge... so the issue ends up costing a total of 1600 points. We just don't know with the information we've been given and what a vet will get for "free" as we'll still be paying our 15 bucks a month.
There will always be content in every future issue that VIPs have included with their subscription that Free/Premium players will need to purchase access to. There may be some content that everyone needs to pay for. There will also always be things that are free for everyone (such as access to the new First Ward zone), just as teasers to get the Free/Premium players subscribing to get the rest of what they're missing out on. And we know that there will be some content such as the Incarnate system that will only be accessible by VIP subscribers.
I have faith that as new issues approach the development team will make us aware of what will be included in the subscription fee and what needs to be purchased additionally. -
Again, you'll probably be able to pay for Paragon Points on the character select screen the same way you do now for server transfers, rename tokens and bonus character slots.
-
We don't know that... it's unclear from the wording so far. I read it as a one-time expense, personally.
Quote:How many arcs might come out in a month isn't stated. -
Quote:No, they haven't. It's been $14.95/mo in US dollars since the game launched in April 2004.While your general argument is reasonable, you're actually incorrect about this - the subscription price used to be $12. If I recall correctly, they Have raised the subscription price, twice, in those 7-plus years. The fact that the change was completely reasonable doesn't negate the fact of the change.
If you pay in a currency other than US dollars, then I can't say for sure whether your subscription rate changed or not... but US players have always been $14.95 for a one month subscription.
(It is still about $12/mo as a lump payment for a full year subscription in advance.) -
Quote:My post was neither, and you're just trying to stir up drama because you want to get your way. I know full-well what living with ADHD is like. I often spend my weekends taking care of my neighbor's teenage ADHD son, and it can definitely be a hassle. But having ADHD isn't an insult unless you take it as such, and my point still stands: it's not up to the developers to cater to it.ADHD is in fact a disability, one of which I do not have but my older brother does. This means that one can not sit still or pay attention to things for any longer than 2 min. Your comment is both inaccurate and offensive.
Quote:Incarnate Threads only drop regularly during incarnate Trials. (snip) No other content in the entire game will ever drop Threads so you are REQUIRED to do the Trials REPEATEDLY.
Quote:You can get 2 Threads, but ONLY two threads at the end of both Tin Mage and Apex TFs which is a major rip off sense they're allot more work for less of a reward.
Quote:This is not a simple "I don't like this and so I don't want to do it" Quote:in fact I actually like the trials, when I'm not constantly crashing from them. And I've repeated them countless times over the course of 2 weeks before I finally went "I really wish I could do something else right now." but I can't do something else because there's nothing else to do. Quote:I actually admitted in my first post that yes there is other content I could do Quote:but if I want rewards I have to do trials. There's no other options for reward but repeating trials. It's a choice between repeat content with needed rewards or new content with no rewards at all.
Quote:Thus problem not in chair, problem in game.
This is actually in the games design, it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the game only being programed to give me threads if I do Trials.
Please please PLEASE try to ACTUALLY read what the problem ACTUALLY is before you ASSUME something TOTALLY the opposite.
The point was NEVER to grind trials over and over for two weeks so you could max out all your slots on one guy. The POINT was that you should take the 4+ months between issues and work up to the new rewards over time, not just unlock and slot everything in a couple days. The fact that the developers made it possible to do so shows that they're sympathetic to your "gotta have it nao!" mindset, but there's a limit to how far they're willing to bend for that.
You're basically telling them you don't want the filet mignon they handed you because it's not on a golden plate and smothered with caviar.
And again, one final time: THIS THREAD DOES NOT BELONG IN THIS SECTION OF THE FORUMS. Ask a moderator to move it to the City Life or Player Questions sections. -
Quote:Currently, they release free powersets in pairs, and usually about every 18-24 months. If they release a new powerset every three months, only you have to pay $10 for it now, isn't that still somewhat of an improvement?See.. this is one of my major concerns... if I personaly have to wait 3 months to buy a powerset I would have previously gotten for free.. (or with the purchase of an expansion) it's going to burn me. It's going to irritate me every time I see it. I'm constantly going to be thinking 'I should have that already.'
Now, this could very well be insane and unrealistic (I don't think it is) but I won't be the only one that feels this way by a long shot.
Shortly before GR launched, Posi had the development teams split into groups. Presumably, resources will be allocated to those teams based on where the microtransaction money is going. If people pay money for powersets, then they'll get more resources, and we'll get more of them. It's a give and take.
If you want them, you can use your stipend and save up and get them at no additional cost, or you can pay a few bucks out of pocket. If it brings you joy, it's not a bad deal either way. -
But if you budget wisely, you can get the whole pack and not pay a dime outside of your usual $15/mo subscription. How is this bad?
-
Yes. Soldiers of Arachnos do not get the standard Ancillary Power Pools, only the Patron Power Pools.
(Kheldians get neither.) -
-
Quote:In what scenario are you doing that, exactly?Explain to me why I should just be happy to pay more for the same thing.
Subscription cost is staying at $15/mo monthly (and keeping the same discounts for extended subscriptions). You aren't going to be charged anything additional to use the stuff that you've already got.
Worst case scenario, something you want is more expensive that you're willing to pay for it, so you go without. If you REALLY want it, you save up your monthly stipend of Paragon Points and pick it up a month or two down the road.
And that means you're paying the same thing for more stuff than you're getting now, no matter how you slice it. -
Quote:In the end, what serves the interest of the company greatest is having people keep paying the $15/mo subscription fee as long as possible. If you cheat your customers too much--and we have got some serious math ninjas who post on these boards, so I don't expect that to become an issue--then you may get a big windfall of cash up front with nothing to use as a nest egg later. They can tell you they have your interests in mind but in the end they serve the interests of the company first.
I'm pretty sure their end goal is to keep the game running as long as possible, because that means they get to keep earning paychecks. Having more microtransactions will enable this to run smoother in the long run.
I read an interesting thread on the boards earlier about another game that's offering a $70 (real cash moneys!) monocle for their avatar to wear. I don't foresee that becoming an issue with City of Heroes Freedom--especially since they give example pricing of costume options in the first post on this very thread, the highest being $1.25 for an Origins Pack cape. -
Official redname response is "Later this year." So... no.

Quote:One of the most exciting prospects of City of Heroes Freedom, to us, is the fact that players who no longer play the game will return.
