I'm personally hoping it ends on 99 months. That seems like a nice round number (stopping before it gets into the triple digits), and 8ΒΌ years is a long time for a series of awesome "thank you" rewards.
And after that, of course, continue giving out costume and respec tokens and extra character slots on schedule, but don't have any associated badge.
My current idea of choice for the 99 month badge would be similar to City Traveller, only it would work for every power pool. You'd be able to skip the prerequisite powers, but you'd still be held to the minimum level of the powers (level 14 for tier 3, level 20 for tier 4). Hellooooo Health and Stamina without Swift and Hurdle, and Tough and Weave without Boxing or... wait, no, just Boxing. Who takes Kick? -
Hi Zam! You were recommended highly as an arc reviewer by a friend of mine, and I was hoping you could take a look at my arc (ID: 2093, "Doctor Brainstorm & An Experiment Gone Awry") and give me a little bit of input.
Issues I'm currently having involve an Arachnos map for mission 1 (in which enemies talk through walls--this happens in dev content as well), and despite being set to end with defeating only the boss of mission 3, you have to beat the entire spawn. Any solutions or work-arounds you have for those problems are enthusiastically welcomed.
I'm more concerned with feedback regarding the difficulty of my custom enemies (I tried to build them to be roughly equivalent in difficulty to standard enemies), and ensuring that my story is coherent.
Also, if you and I are able to meet in game, I'd like to get your opinion on a few changes I've been thinking of making.
Thanks, I appreciate the insight.
((Just a head's up, but Doctor Brainstorm tends to slip in and out of his Austrian accent... sometimes he'll pronounce w's correctly, other times he'll pronounce them as v's, stuff like that. This was done intentionally--originally, ALL his dialog was accented, but I received several complaints about it being too hard to read; I toned it down to make it easier to understand, but with enough accent left to still be noticable.)) -
Known issue when pairing Super Strength with a Shield. I think BABs said it was fixed internally, but would have to wait until a later build before it appeared on the test server.
(And if you're reading this, big guy, I'm not trying to use you as "the catch-all Dev." This is a legitimate animation issue, and therefore your territory.)

I can't help but notice that list excludes Katanas...
I kid, I kid... I don't really care. I've never really seen much of a problem with weapon redraw, and I've been playing Katana/SR since the game was in beta. I'm fine with it remaining as-is for a few months. -
Novawulfe, TV marketting is expensive. You have to pay someone to write the commercial. Then you have to pay a director and film crew to film it. You have to pay actors/voice actors. You have to pay to have the commercial printed into a form that the networks can use. And after all that, then you have to pay the networks to show the fraggin' thing.
As a side note unrelated to anything else in this discussion, this is one of the reasons that TV networks as a whole aren't doing so well right now. Internet marketting is much cheaper, and fewer people are actually watching "live" television and are instead favoring DVRs and internet broadcasts, which more or less allow them to skip the commercials.
Now back to the discussion at hand: yes. I love the AE and still use it at least once a week. -
Pencils by me, digitally "inked" and colored by Victory's Brick Bash. -
Quote:I think the word "God" is blocked. I tried to make an Egyptian god-themed Scrapper named "Desert God Set" a while back on Victory. A quick check said it was available, but I couldn't use the name.Startled to discover Sky God was not taken on Guardian last night. I decided I don't want it, or Rain God either, since I snagged one I wanted even more.
I changed it to "Desert King Set," but I really preferred Desert God. -
Quote:Just a quick correction: it has been confirmed by a developer that there is only one intermediate stage between Hero and Villain. There is no "true neutral" side that you can become (starting Praetorians can play as such until level 20, but then must pick either Hero or Villain).Just because a VEAT uses the GR system doesnt mean they automatically become a hero. They could be a Rogue, Neutral, Vigilanty (the 3 shades of grey before they can become a fully fledged hero) - which could easily cover the aggresive rogue arachnos.
The chain goes:
Hero -> Vigilante -> Villain -> Rogue -> Hero
_______
As for people saying that Arachnos troops shouldn't be allowed to switch sides, why not? Isn't that really a choice to be made by the person playing them?
Maybe my Arachnos soldier was brainwashed and is starting to recover his original personality and wants to use his training and knowledge to help the Heroes fight back against Lord Recluse?
Maybe my Widow joined Arachnos to make a difference in the Rogue Isles and is finding that their influence is causing more harm than good? She's become disillusioned with the Arachnos regime and wants to liberate her homeland.
Maybe my guy is a spy for Longbow and is coming back to Paragon to report what he's learned? Maybe he's actually a double agent and is intending to come to Paragon to steal secrets so he can then return to the Rogue Isles and strengthen his position within Arachnos?
Maybe I just want to run around as a Crab Spider and do the teabag emote in front of a bunch of Heroes that can't do anything about it?
Or maybe, just maybe, I'll decide how to play my characters without your input. -

I plan on just saving all my Christmas and birthday (January 19, baby!) money to build a whole new PC around April. We'll have a better idea of what the most highly recommended specs are then. Plus, the video cards that cost over $200 now will probably have dropped under the $200 range.

There is absolutely no proof that they won't give this badge again for a future event.
Honestly, I'd be terribly surprised if they didn't do it again next year at roughly the same time... or at the very least, around the time the other other superhero MMO is released. -
Plant/Rad/Fire works pretty damn well too. I have a friend that uses that as his farming build, and he tears through baddies like butter.

Two notes:
First, despite the fact that I totally agree that the Rikti's origin should in fact be Science, the game seems to consider them Mutants (based on the enhancements they drop most often), and so that's what a Rikti AT would probably be. Again, I agree with you, but there are strong arguments both ways.
Second, a "Monkey Gas" power is totally workable. It could be like Rad's Fallout power, allowing you to release poisonous gas from fallen teammates OR similar to the Warshade's Stygian Circle, seeping the gas out of defeated enemies nearby (and thus on a crazy long timer), OR it could be a self post-defeat emination. And it would be awesome no matter which of those you picked. -
I've also heard that for brand new characters, you have to log out and back in once to get the loyalty badges.

Quote:Please don't misunderstand, I was not implying that it's okay to judge people by their post count and reg date. I was simply saying that's one of the reasons that the OP was receiving what she considers "flames," and sadly, it proved to be true.I'm sorry, Chad ... but I have to disagree that your point #2 is made. Please take a look at my registration date and my post count.
The reason that my post count is so low is that I don't post unless I have something I want to say AND that hasn't been said before (frequently, multiple times) by others.
Geni
If anything, the line you were quoting was a jestful poke at Panzer. -
Not sure what you're trying to say about me editing exactly, but I did it since you and I both posted at roughly the same time and I didn't want you to think I was referencing your post. You were questioning the reason for the sarcastic posts, and I was letting you know why you were getting them. And then Panzer came and blatantly proved one of those points.
I don't personally care how many posts you have. You came here wondering if CoH is gonna be okay, and I wanted to let you know that yes, it will be okay.
It's all good. You're still cool in my book. As cool as any random internet stranger in my book can be, anyway. -
-
The reason you're getting what you perceive as flames (and compared to what I've seen around here, they're not flaming... not even close) is two-fold:
1) Every other week, someone posts a thread just like this one, usually saying something along the lines of "The devs doing _____ is killing the game and now nobody's playing!"
2) Your message board account was started two months ago. While it's certainly possible that you've just never registered for the boards before and have been around for years, some people just look at the join date and think "n00b!"
Quote:I chock it up to being on the internet, people with anonymity act like punks. Quote:I feel some could perhaps use a 'chill pill'.
By that I mean, take your own chill pill. The game is doing fine. -

I saw a character named "The Angle" once when Issue 8 came out and gave us wings. I'm only mildly ashamed to say I made a lot of really bad jokes at his expense.
"The Angle: parallel to justice, perpindicular to evil!"
"I don't mean to be obtuse, but your costume is acute!"
... You get the point. -
Quote:Jack had already stepped down and passed the Lead Developer torch to Matt at least a year before NCSoft bought the game from Cryptic.So... Jack is only worth one half of one percent of our dev team? That makes me feel all warm and tingly inside for some reason.
_______
As to all this "nobody is playing!" conjecture, correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't things pretty slow for the few weeks between the Halloween event and the release of the November Issues in '07 and '08 too? I'd posit that the "issue" we're having now is that there's not a shiny new Issue to be released this month.
And even with the release for those Issues, activity would spike for a couple weeks and then drop off until the Winter Event started. We'll probably be seeing a lot of familiar faces this time next month. -

Quote:There are lots of reasons you'd want to become one or the other. For starters, there is no real "middle" beyond level 20 in Praetoria--you either lean towards being heroic or being villainous, so you're forced to pick either Hero or Villain from that point on. From there, you can become a Vigilante Hero or a Rogue Villain, which allows you to visit the opposing city.why would you want to fully become a villion or hero instead of staying in the middle
The reasons why you'd want to become a Vigilante or Rogue are:- Easier to find teams, since you're not locked into either city
- Obtain badges from the opposing faction's side
- Roleplay reasons
The reasons why you'd want to shift entirely from Hero to Villain or vice versa are:- To access the enemy's markets and/or trade with the opposing faction
- Roleplay reasons
- An undisclosed character improvement system to be released with Going Rogue that can power up a level 50 character (currently there's no concrete info on this, other than the fact that it's not just limited to more new Invention recipes)
I'm sure that lots of people have more reasons to add, but those are the big ones for each. And really, it all depends on what you as a player want to do with your characters.
