Ninja Skiing

Something to be aware of for this Holiday Season: Owners of the Natural booster pack will have another option for improved ski control.

Yes, I'm sure most everybody already has Super Jump or some other jumping power. Strangely enough, some of my characters don't. Except now they all have Ninja Run! I tried out Ninja Run on the ski slopes on the test server, and it does a great job of boosting my times on the ski runs. I expect this to help me get quite a few ski medals when the event goes live.

Like any jumping power, the power improves your control and speed while you're sliding. No actual jumping required for the speed increase. Just turn on the toggle and your sliding will be improved.

All of my characters are fliers, but a lot of them have that jump pack temp power that you get from the King's Row Safeguard/Mayhem mission. My older characters missed out on that temp power.

Unless you're an ardent soloist, there's no need to keep them deprived.

Let's not get into my teaming disabilities.

Speed on the ski slopes is all about MovementControl/MovementFriction, not about running speed. (The slopes are basically "falling with style")

Ninja Run has identical MovementControl and MovementFriction to Super Jump.
And since MovementControl/Friction can't be enhanced anyways...

Doesn't Inertial Reduction do that? It gives Flight greater control like Hover has.

IR gives better control/friction than SJ/NR.

With Ninja Jump I just fall quicker of the track.

Inertial Reduction does that to me. I didn't have that problem with Ninja Jump.

I think the fastest way down is still Inertial Reduction, if your reflexes are capable of dealing with it. (Mine aren't.) And if you don't suffer lag during the run. And if you can find somebody to give it to you, if you don't have it yourself.

With Ninja Run, there's still no way I can get the gold medal on the bobsled course, but I can manage it (barely) on the slalom course.

Neat! Smurch is my skiier character (he looks great in his stocking cap) and while I've got the gold medal from the main ski run, I don't have it for the overhead track yet. Will need to give that a go

Try Superspeed. It makes you feel like a sports car on ice.

IR makes your movement very 'twitchy'. It has the potential for excellent control, but you have to learn it. It takes practice and most people don't normally have access to the power so they haven't had opportunity to use it on a regular basis. I have dozens of toons, including two with kinetics at level 50, but none have Inertial Reduction.

I've never managed to get any degree of control when sliding (I stank at it, honestly) so last year I just turned graphic settings down (to reduce lag a bit) and used Fly to move through the gates. Wasn't quite fast enough for gold, but I did manage silver and bronze (and it was much less stressful). Works best if the character is in the upper 30s or higher with capped or near-capped fly speed for his/her level. It's possible that a level 50 (with higher cap) could get gold but I have so many alts that I've not gotten there yet.
