The next night I want to run another STF for another shiny Damage/Range synthetic Hami-O, but -- whaaaaat, I gotta wait until midnight to start?! Wiggity whack! I was gonna bring 4 Corruptors this time, too!

At least that's my version of the story. The 20 hour timer lets you keep your normal start time for gaming.
  2. I strongly recommend reading Snow Globe's Alignment FAQ. You can only do 5 tips in a day, then you wait 20 hours until those tips fade so you can pick up more. They show up in the Tips tab of the Contacts window.

If you already knew that and have 2 open Tip slots, then maybe it's just really really bad luck of no Tip drops.

  4. Love seeing that word in a super-powered game. OverPower = Greatest CCG ever!

So says one of the infamous ones.

I think what he wanted to do was move one Master account to be listed under his original Master account, and still pay for two accounts.

In that case they might do it if they were both registered under the same name, but I dunno.

If that's not doable, then try to give us an upgrade to the market interface that lets us view transactions and place a blanket bit on anything within a certain level range. Why should i have to place 3 bids on a 34 35 36 recipe I want when any one of those will do, let me place one bid on all 3 levels and the first one that sells, is mine.

Especially the multiple-level bid part. Doubt they're willing to go back and change sets to 5-level increments. Always did wonder why the generic IOs were like that but sets weren't.
  7. From Double XP Weekend on Wiki:

Double XP Weekend #7 was plagued with lag and server connection issues, which prompted Paragon Studios to announce a "freebie" Double XP Weekend as an apology. Previous Double XP Weekends had been happening approximately every six months, whereas DXP #8 was only two months after DXP #7.

I thought that's what I said, just without the fancy chart link and exact numbers. Thanks for clarifying.
  9. From somewhere in the thread of Snow Globe's "Guide to Going Rogue's Morality System - In plain English."

"You get to stay, but you can't use the base. Your prestige total and join date will remain if you want to stay with the group and return to being the same faction as the group/base."

Also, "You lose Super Leader rank in your group if you fully cross over from heroes to villains, or from villains to heroes."
  10. Potential lag and increased discrimination towards non-voice players have been popular arguments against embedded voice chat. I'm happy leaving it as a third party option, allowing our devs to work on other things.

Devs don't make a habit of visiting this forum AFAIK, they seem to let us police ourselves for the most part. The players always know more than them anyway, right?

From the thread in the Dominators forum at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=240081 , the players seem to think this is a bug.

I usually head to AT-specific boards when changes like that happen, as the discussions usually make the most (least?) progress there as far as trying to figure out if it's WAI or a bug.

I'm just trying to understand what makes a "good" team for this trial and where the shortcomings of others have occurred.
Voice chat isn't super mandatory but some players like its speed compared to typing things out, especially for the team leaders. I'm with that crew but it can be done if the leaders can effectively communicate with each other and their teams through regular chat.

Check out the thread at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=232932 for more specific tips on what has worked for others. You'll note that the OP recommends Nukes; the guide was obviously written well before this patch was announced.

A general rule I follow for speed TFs and 1337 trials is "you can never have too many buffs and debuffs". moar corrupterz plz!
  13. I hope I'm thinking about this the right way. ED doesn't discriminate based on level. You get less % benefit from the third enhancement of a type regardless of whether it's level 50 or 30. Overall you still get more benefit from the 50's since they're higher base %.

Well yeah, if you fail, I'm OK with not receiving anything for this one. Players have [usually] gone through so much content just to be at the level and awareness to try this thing, if we spend an hour and have nothing in rewards to show for it, "meh", at least we might have learned something and/or had a good time with our fellow gamers.

As far as the rewards upon completing: badge, temp power, bragging rights... those hold a lot of weight with some players and makes the risk of getting nothing for failing worth it.

Sorry if I'm not sensitive to some of the complaints. After completing CoP a handful of times only a day or two after GR launched, it just seemed very doable. Set a time for capable players with appropriate powersets and skills to show up to give yourselves the best chance to succeed. If you can't throw all that together, you deserve to fail. Like my Pirates in MLB for the past 18 seasons.

I would welcome more challenging content whether it be via the Incarnate system or just the mayhem thrown at us in Praetoria a la ambushes galore. Something to keep us thinking!

Another good point that is often overlooked. Are Nukes and Shivans overpowered? Do we need them as I-Win buttons? Why make them off-limits for this one trial?

And not to advertise too much for it, but it will be available for both PC and PS3 platforms. I playtested it at San Diego Comicon and was not impressed. It felt like a single-player console game and was more comfortable for me on PS3 than on a PC with keyboard/mouse.

My biggest disappointment was the development team's lack of "oomph" when asked during a panel, "What makes your game better than City of Heroes?" and their only response was [paraphrasing here] "They don't let you play in Metropolis or team up with Batman." So I'm not expecting anything too groundbreaking out of their gameplay -- and if I want to play a Batman game, I'll play Arkham Asylum when I can be the Dark Knight the whole way through, not just in PvP (which was another confusing part of gameplay, most of the time you play as your own creation but then it looked like there were options in PvP and maybe some PvE to play as flagship characters? I dunno).

Oh, and DCUO won't have crafting (per the devs at the same panel). Not a super idea for a modern MMO as far as I'm concerned, but they have access to the Batcave, so I guess they're hoping that longtime fans of the DC Universe will want to pay a monthly fee to play in their historic playground.

I don't think it will offer a better MMO experience than CoH.

To backtrack to the thread topic, Lothic brought up a good point. I agree it would be reasonable to expect some "response" from NC Soft to coincide with DCUO's release. Might be towards the end of the Halloween event, we'll have to be patient and find out!
  16. Is it such a bad thing to have a challenging trial? So many "speed" TF's are abused and many (most?) missions are commonly "ghosted" these days.

I like that there's a trial with some time-sensitive tasks and a big challenge to overcome so it's not taken for granted like so many other trial/TF runs. Maybe the devs agree?

Full details have not been provided in writing by the development team. Most of us are speculating that it will be full access so badgers can do their thang and pre-GR characters can experience the content with the help of Ouroboros.
  18. Nothing has been announced lately. Below is the Double XP Weekend history (from http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Double_XP_Weekends):

    1.July 21, 2006 (ended 07/23/2006)
    2.January 26, 2007 (ended 01/28/2007)

    4.February 08, 2008 (ended 02/10/2008)
    5.July 18, 2008 (ended 07/20/2008)
    6.January 23, 2009 (ended 01/25/2009)
    7.July 31, 2009 (ended 08/02/2009)
    8.October 8, 2009 (ended 10/12/2009)
    9.March 4, 2010 (ended 3/7/2010)

*edited to add my [un]educated guess*
They have typically been about every 6 months, with an extra last year because of lag issues. Anything players suggest is purely speculation. I would guess late November if we get one this year (after Halloween Event, before Holiday/Winter Event, before i19?). Later than 6 months from the last one because of the Going Rogue launch, Double XP seems to be offered to keep players interested while waiting for new shinies.

You're lucky that you're not firewalled behind a Toronto-based security measure that slows things down so much that gameplay isn't feasible at the office .

  23. Because NOBODY demanded it! If anyone was wondering how Pinnacle Fantasy Football is going, here's the Commissioner's Note as we get ready for week 4:

Only three undefeated teams left in the NFL: STEELERS, Bears, and... Chiefs?! You read that correctly! There were 29 combined yellow flags thrown at the G-Men and Pack this week. The refs for both games needed to ice down their arms afterwards.

I thought our league could go one of two ways this year with auto-picks and a small number of teams. Could have one or two juggernauts, or all evenly-matched squads. I'm hoping it ends up being the latter, as I don't want to stay at the bottom of the standings for long!

    Week 3 results:
    Drama Phase (1-2) vs Hawk's Heroes (2-1)
Hawkeyed stuck it to The Commish hard, riding the successes of Adrian Peterson and new Dolphin Brandon Marshall to a 24 point victory, 138-114. Thanks for nothing, Matt Schaub!

Red Special (1-2) vs Bio Hazards (2-1)
In a battle of underperforming red helmets where SOMEONE had to win, Mike The Red kept injured San Diego RB Ryan Mathews active as a starter, allowing the Bio Hazards to squeak out an unimpressive 4 point victory, 87-83. Yawn.

Shnax (2-1) vs Pure Trezen (1-2)
Trezen kept IR'd Ryan Grant active as a starter, allowing Shnax to handily complete a 153-102 victory, supported by Q's performance with the Ravens. Shnax was allegedly seen relaxing in a lawn chair while sipping a long island iced tea through the entire second half of games on Sunday.

My Drama Phase is currently acting as league punching bag, as my scored-against points total an astounding 368. The Bio Hazards are amazingly 2-1 while scoring a league-worst 271 total points through week 3.

Injuries and suspensions are continuing as bye weeks begin, so now seems like a great time for a Waiver Wire Challenge. For week 4, the team who claims (and starts) the current free agent player who scores the most points week 4 gets 50 million inf. Easy enough? Pick up any available player set to have a breakout game, start him, and reap the benefits. If nobody picks up a FA to start, I'm using the 50 mil for a costume contest at the next ship raid (don't dare me to do it, I've done crazier things with 50 mil).

I'm looking forward to another exciting week of NFL action. Good luck hunting free agents, choose your starters wisely... and get those injured players off of your active rosters!

  24. I noticed the decrease in spam too, also noticed the delay in how soon you can send multiple emails (don't know if that was i18 or earlier though), or maybe the devs got some other kind of fix in there to prevent too much spamtasticness.

In other news: Aett, is it ever going to stop raining?? I'm gonna build an ark if this keeps up, been gloomy all day.
