Hi everybody,

tried Forum search but could not find any relevent threads.

What is happening when I se the word "Overpower" in orange text floating from the top of the foe I am currently attacking please?

I have seen it occasionally on all my alts but yesterday I rolled a Grav/FF troller and I am getting this on nearly every attack when using my lvl 1 and 3 Grav powers. (Crush and Gravity Distortion)

Thanks, am just just asking out of curiosity

I have not rolled these Primary/Secondary's before.

Cheers

Overpower is used by a Controller whenever they attempt to mez an opponent be it hold or stun or immobolize or others, as long as they're the one doing it and not a pet. When you see Overpower, an extra point of magnitude is applied to that power, which means you can randomly hold bosses, or at the least, helps in stacking holds.

On a controller, right click on a power icon - choose info. On the window that opens up, choose "details" - in the list of power effects it will include one for about 20% chance to activate for 1 mag mez - that's the "Overpower">

Most low-level controller AoEs have a 50% chance to overpower, too. The chance varies from power to power.

Love seeing that word in a super-powered game. OverPower = Greatest CCG ever!

So says one of the infamous ones.

Think of it as a "crit" except instead of doing extra damage, you do extra hold/immob/etc

Overpower is actually a mechanic that Controllers always had, but it was "hidden", the random chance of extra magnitude was tacked on there, but you never knew when it activated. Except when a hold that normally wouldn't mez a Boss suddenly did.

The text floating above the target was added after "Domination" and other Inherents (such as Assassin Strike) were given floating text to indicate when they activated. It was pointed out that Controllers had an aspect to their Inherent that they had no way of knowing it had activated, and the devs gave it the name "Overpower".

There's been talk of, with the new Fury, having the word "Smash" appear above a foe's head if your Fury goes above 75%. (Since that is so unlikely now)

(Note that Criticals such as Scourge and Containment typically don't have a text float since the duplicate damage number float indicates the critical went off. Also, Bruising doesn't have a text since it has a 100% chance of occuring, but it occurs to me it might be a good idea to add it anyway so the Tanker's target can be picked out and targetted in a pitched battle)

And the tanks target can easily be determined, and attacked, by targeting/selecting the tank in the team window and hitting an attack (something ranged if the target is not next to you).
