Pfft.
Just implement a new currency. That'll solve everything.
And if one doesn't do the trick, make more. You can never have too many, you know. -
So, theoretically I'm judging a Biography contest at 10 pm Eastern tonight. (theoretically only because I haven't seen anything from R-Tech publicizing it, so I dunno if folks will show) But I will be in Pocket D (on Tattered Man) at 10 to read some bios and hand out some cash.
INF, that is! REE-wards!
Best Bios will win some casually earned market money! Make me laugh, make my jaw drop, make yourself awesome!
1ST PLACE: 100 MILLION INF
2ND PLACE: 60 MILLION INF
3RD PLACE: 30 MILLION INF
Honorable Mention: 10 MILLION INF
Just a tip - short and catchy is better than long and cliche'.
As an example of what I find worthy, here is a bio that I won a contest with way back in the day:
Quote:Well,
Lemme tell you a story 'bout a man named Jedd.
Lived in Paragon City, kept a rifle by his bed!
He was out one day, shootin' at some Tsoo.
When up from the ground came a bubblin' goo!
Waste, that is...
Radiiii-O-Active!
Terra Volta Tea...
The first thing you know, ol Jedd's a feelin' strange.
His hands start to glow and his gun begins to change.
His friends all say, "Jedd, you're super, man, like Clark!"
So he loaded up his gun and he moved to Atlas Park!
Town Center, that is...
City Hall!
Costume Calls...
Y'all send me a tell now, y'hear?! -
I am willing to bet any amount of inf you care to name that if something in the game breaks that is a direct revenue stream, it gets A-One, Red Ball, All Hands On Deck priority.
Character transfer slots? Yeah, they sell those. They want to sell more.
I would put the ability to buy/implement respecs in the same category. Certainly not a gameplay-altering experience, but people are paying extra for the service. If it went down, I am dead certain it would get the same primetime damn-the-torpedoes fixit schedule.
It's a business. And cash-in-hand from people willing to pay (over the course of the whole weekend, I would imagine) trumps any two hours of primetime gaming. -
Rah-MEEL?
TIE-rant?
Really?
'Round these here parts, where we speak proper 'Murrican, we say RAY-mee-el and TEER-ant.
Dang time-travelin' furriners. -
YAY!
Thank you SO much to the many kind folks who pm'd me! One of your solutions did the trick!
I have spent the last ack-many hours downloading SP3 and patches galore but finally got onto the beta server!
But Slainsteel has a perfectly legitimate question, which I've been kicking myself over for the last couple of weeks. I only discovered the nature of my OS when I tried getting onto the Beta shard a few weeks ago and suddenly couldn't. I hate running updates and continually downloading new versions (I'm looking at you here too, iTunes) and had fallen out of the habit of updating Windows. Turns out that sometime since I stopped updating, Microsoft wised up and created a system to check what you're running.
My only answer is: in the future, do not let relatives buy you technical gear at computer shows that you haven't inspected and approved yourself.
I20 AHEAD, FULL POWER!! -
/edited out!
Nevermind, all is good, should be there on the 11th! -
I'm hoping that something in this logic chain fails, but it looks like my old computer can't hack running the game any more.
It seems that Issue 20 requires at a minimum that you be running Windows XP service pack 3. According to this thread here, anyhow.
It turns out that the computer my wife bought me 6 and a half years ago did not have an authorized version of Windows XP.
Microsoft will not update an unauthorized version of XP to service pack 3, no longer sells licenses for Windows XP, and Windows 7 will not run on my now-4-generations-old machine.
Therefore, No SP3 = No Issue 20 on my machine.
/editing this first post for the folks who haven't read all the way through:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A player with a spare legal Windows XP key gave it to me, and my issue is fixed! YAY!
More importantly, a hot fix is coming down today or tomorrow that is supposed to make the game work for people using only SP2.
My apologies for not testing and raising this issue more in Beta, but I was swamped this go-round and didn't have the time to follow through. (I have been in the past one of the trailing-edge testers who squawk when some new shiny doesn't work on old systems)
If you're having the same problem, hang tough! Help is coming!
Also, the CoX community is the BEST EVAR!1! -
Quote:The 11th should be good!Sounds great, Casual. I'll also chip in influence for prizes. Would Monday the 11th at 10 PM Eastern be okay?
The Clown / Jester CC is in a little over 20 minutes! The CC will be followed by a "Best Joke" mini contest. See you there folks!
I'll see everyone there!
Oh, and don't sweat the inf. I was playing the market for the last couple of months and have got more than I know what to do with right now. -
Hmmmm.
Right now, Monday evenings seem to be the time I'm most likely to have free.
R-Tech, if you could arrange a Monday bio contest, I'd be happy to judge and plunk down inf for prizes like the ones given out in the CC. 100 million 1st, 50 million second, 25 million 3rd?
Just let me know which Monday you'd like to run it on, and I'll do my best to be there! -
Regardless of the merit of Praetoria, the intense focus on it is going to bore people.
There is no single enemy group that's worthy of more than a year's worth of developmental effort. Period.
For example: Issue 3 was awesome. It gave us the Council, Striga Island, and a great couple of TFs. Can you imagine how the forums would have howled if the next few issues were:
Issue 4: The Council Strikes Back: We Forgot A Task Force!
Issue 5: Still More Council: Feel The Excitement As You Sabotage Their Production Lines!
Issue 6: Yet Again, More Council: You Missed Those Guys Over There!
Issue 7: Council vs Fifth Column: You Thought We Were Out Of Council, Didn't You?
Yet this is exactly what we're getting now. Just substitute in 'Praetorians' for Council and Issue 18-22 for Issues 3-7.
So, bored of Praetoria? No, not yet. But in another couple of months I expect to be, and there is no end to the Praetorian content in sight. -
Wups, lost track of this thread.
Hum, I'll go back in and try voting again, but there was definitely some registration thing in round 2.
Still pulling for PA and Erfworld myself, and while I don't read A Distant Soil, it's a worthy competitor. -
Just wanted to say that I think this is a great idea!
Now, if only I had that time slot open to show up...
Gonna do my best for the 20th of next month, tho.
Also, if you want to do a bio contest, I would happily support it, with funds if nothing else.
Nothing is quite so amusing as a short, catchy bio. I would gladly contribute inf to see a few. -
Quote:Forcing scrappers to take Taunt?
She has the ability to sequester her target. Her current target is issued two warnings that they are about to be sequestered, before the third warning locks down the target and all who are nearby. The only way to prevent this is for someone else to draw her attention!
Seriously?
I miss the eye-roll emote. :/
Taunt could insta-kill AVs and drop puppies, rainbows and purple recipes from the sky, and I still wouldn't take it on my scrappers. -
It's the stunned look on the face of contestant #2 that makes it for me.
Plus it makes me wonder what categories were chosen in Double Jeopardy.
Bumbershoots?
Nothing to Fear?
Fictional Detectives?
Brrr-rr-rrr? -
Quote:The only reason Turg doesn't win the thread is that NCSoft won it in the first post.NCSoft,
I've enjoyed your games for almost seven years now. The community has always been its strong point to me, for its involvement in genuinely helping the little guy, either newbies, people in need, etc.
I'm honored and amazed at your response to this crisis.
Thank you for taking a random act of Heroism to an entirely new level.
For the last seven years, you've had me as a customer. Today, for all the right reasons, you have me as an admirer.
Very classy, team. This is what the internet is for. -
I can't believe I didn't see this last month.
From Comics Alliance's Great Comics That Never Happened:
And the perfectly believable B&B plotline that explains it:
Quote:Locked up in Arkham Asylum since his last devious caper, the Riddler has had nothing to do but plot revenge... and watch America's favorite quiz show, Jeopardy! His rage has only built as he has seen his intellectual inferiors rack up the cash totals that he's never been able to score with his life of crime, and now that he's free, he's going to settle the score with the television institution. Unless a contestant can rack up never-before-seen perfect score of $566,400 in a special live broadcast, a group of hidden bombs will destroy Gotham City!
The only thing that can stand in the way of complete destruction is the most off-beat team-up of all: The razor-sharp intellect of Batman and the unflappable Canadian game-show hosting skills of TV's Alex Trebek! Will a few well-chosen categories be enough to save the day, or will Trebek and Batman be facing... Final Jeopardy!? -
That is indeed Polarity Bear, my new(ish) electric/cold controller. Thanks for noticing!
He's surprisingly effective solo. I just got out of Praetoria yesterday, and soloed about 2/3 of the way with no debt. (Noble Savage was the only thing to drop me.) I think that's mostly due to a) having all 3 of the vet attacks and b) the right power sets to shut down both massive ambushes (electric) and bosses (cold dom). I also took advantage of Mr. Yin's magical accuracy SOs from level 10 and up, so hitting wasn't much of an issue either. -
How do you think I feel?
Still running on the computer I bought 1 month before getting the game back in 2004, so yeah, I'm just holding on with my fingertips, graphically.
And I strongly suspect interrupted loading of today's patch. The new NCSoft loader just leapt right in with no patch update, even though the regular loader knew about the patch. If I manage to get back on today, I'll load from the old loader and hope that clears it up. -
With Powers Division getting all the press lately, the regular Praetorian Police have felt the need to fight back.
BEHOLD! The PPD Bikini Squad!
READY for ACTION!!
Sign up NOW!!!

I was hoping we'd get a Watch movie next, because we've had the wizards and DEATH and the city services.
But...
...a whole series!! O.O
GLEE!!
Let the casting speculation commence! -
My interest in this has just been eliminated by the need to register.
Looks like I won't be moving on. -

I am amazed that there are still people who see this game in terms of red- and blue- sides.
There are no sides.
There haven't been for quite some time now.
There are only zones which are restricted to certain ATs at certain levels.
And even then you may use Oroborous to play any content you want.
Really guys. The 2006 Kool-Aid has gotten a little too old to be drinking any more. -
Anyone willing to put this much work into a comic to help newbs and introduce the game world gets forgiven just about any amount of Mary Sue-ness.
