Quote:Given the changes to SuperSide kicking and the way you can tweak Diff settings solo Padding and Bridging are obsolete anyway regardless of the AE.I dunno... since AE came out I have not been pestered by people wanting me to PL them, Bridge for them, pad their team, etc., etc. I consider this a big plus.
Quote:Yeah you can. I've added people to my AE teams while the arc is still running. They say TF but they don't restrict the team. -
Quote:That's right. If you can overlap Rage you can avoid the -Defense crash. If I'm reading this right this guide seems to suggest a Rage crash can be fully prevented by a full overlap of two stacked Rages; thus without a gap between them where only one Rage would be active.
Is this still current?
It would seem most logical to me that every Rage - after its 120 second duration - was following by a 10 second crash reducing your defenses across the board, independently of each other. This wouldn't be in line with the above though, from what I understand.
TLDR; If Rage recharges in less than 60 seconds will your defenses never be reduced by a Rage crash or is that nonsense?
Why is beyond me, but that's the way they've crafted the power. The Defense Debuff has the "Cannot stack from same caster" flag on it so when you recast Rage the 2 minute timer for the debuff crash resets. -
Quote:Do you really want to download 3Gb of stuff though?Seems a basic question, but here it is anyway. My gf just got a new computer (much better than mine) and has said I can play CoH on it (in limited amounts, lol). Do I need to buy a second copy or can I just download a client from the website via my current account and play it as I would at home?
Copy the client onto a USB from your machine, copy it onto your GFs machine in a suitable location and then make a shortcut to the CoHUpdater.exe file on your desktop. When it starts it will ask where you want to install to, say the same folder as you've already copied it and it should work.
Only potential onion in the ointment might be UAC and permissions when you try this. There are certain locations which should allow you to avoid that (but I always get confused by it and just switch off UAC for the install and then switch it back on after). -
Quote:Maybe Mr G just doesn't wear sun block and moisturize, unlike Agent G.While its not official, it seems pretty clear, from their design, which Mr. G was meant to be the Alt of.
And yeesh, The Centre looks like he should be showing people to their seats in a theatre in that get-up.
It makes more sense that he's an alternative Centre (sorry I refuse to use your backward spelling Americans) given the arcs he gives are to do with media manipulation and the like. -
Quote:I'm @Carnifax both sides so it doesn't really matter to me.Nope, warned about it yesterday. I'd imagine a server list merge would require more notice to nut out what happens with globals etc. Although I've only seen one person say they wouldn't want to change their global. I have no attachment to mine except thats what people know my by. I'd change in a hearbeat for a merge, as would most EU players I'd bet.
In fact when I stopped my EU account and upgraded my latent Trial US one to a full one the first time I logged in I had a 3 month old message from someone who had played the MA mission I'd done EU side(a nice one too)
-
Quote:No, the maintenance times were already synced US and EU side even if the EU ones were in Germany.Hi with The EU servers Moving to the usa will the Maintenance time change !
That happened a year or two back when the Great Gutting of the EU Offices occurred and we moved onto the one forum. -

Quote:You're not the boss of me!From this page:
Seriously, this alpha slot was made for us. We all want more recharge, this has it in heaps. A whopping 30% that won't be diminished. Think about how many powers you have with stuns. Also, if I'm right on my math here, with this alone Stygian Circle should heal you to full off of one LT. Essence Drain and Black Dwarf Drain just got a whole lot better.
Oh wait, it's Dechs and Warshades. I stand corrected. You ARE the boss of me in this case -
Quote:Well obviously the genre had some appeal, it's not like I said "Hey, I despise superheroes and everything they stand for but I'll try this anyway". But there was plenty of other MMOs (and games) from genres I also like around. The fact it's a superhero MMO isn't that much of a clincher for me (which is what Lascher is saying)I am neither here nor there on this argument, but let's be honest. For most people the "genre" is what drew them to this game in the first place. You probably would not even know how enjoyable it was to play this game if the genre had no appeal for you.
What drew me to the game chiefly was the fact my now-wife was going around the world for 6 months and I needed something to occupy myself and a friend was playing this. If he'd been playing [something-else-which-cannot-be-mentioned] I'd have tried that instead.
What's kept me playing mostly is the same sort of thing that made me throw 100s of hours into single player RPGs like [Name withheld to protect the innocent] and [Name withheld to protect the innocent], lots and lots of builds and power combos to mess with. -
Speaking of difficulties with enhancements what ever happened to the way they used to show the details of each when you rolled over them, that was brilliant while it lasted but seemed to break and then got forgotten about/
-
Quote:Addendum : Do NOT do this with your Mind Controller/Domi, Terrify takes ToHit Debuff enhancements (certainly SOs) but doesn't actually have any -ToHit in it.Most Fear powers work MUCH better if you slot for To-Hit Debuffs, not Fear enhancements.
Back in the day, I got to where I usually avoided taking Fear powers. The sets seemed pointless (except for acc or end, etc.) and even felt pointless. Then I got a dark defender and slotted all her Fear-inducing powers with only the Debuff sets. Wow! Put a whole new twist on Specters and Cloaks and the like for me - wish I'd figured this out years ago!
Spectral Terror has a 15% tohit debuff (actually it has 2 of them it can stack together), but as I found out once when doing a respec to maximise the -ToHit the damn thing cannot take -ToHit enhancements (so I PROCed the sucker instead) -
I've tracked down the i18 Patch Notes and FE does get affected by enhancements, so my figures above seem to be correct for a level 50 BS/Fire. This makes me happy.
A critting, built-up, FE backed Headsplitter will do over 1100 damage at level 50 -
Quote:Is this right? I thought the FE bonus would do 45% of whatever final damage figure your attack was doing (in other words INCLUDING Enhancements)FE used to be kind of like build up. It's not any more. In my opinion, it's crazy better than that now.
Every attack you have deals some amount of damage. Let's pick an attack and say it deals 100 damage. You slot it up with enhancers, and it deals around 195 damage.
Now you fire off FE. For the next 20 seconds (for Brutes, Scrappers and Tankers) this power now does 195 damage plus around 40 fire damage. (If I remember right, the rule of thumb was that FE adds around 40% of the power's base, unslotted damage. Maybe it was 45%.)
Here's the awesome part. That 40% (or maybe 45%) extra fire damage can be buffed. This is unlike any other source of bonus damage in the game. Let's say you're a Scrapper. If you pop off Build Up, you get +100% damage bonus for about 10 seconds. That means our example attack would now deal 295 damage + around 80 fire damage, because Build Up grants its +100% damage bonus to both the base 100 damage and the 40 fire damage.
So in other words in your example the vanilla attack does 145 damage (100 + 45 fire). The Slotted with 3 Damage SOs does 282.75 damage (195 + 87.75 Fire from FE) and the Slotted with Damage plus Build Up does 427.75 damage (295 + 132.75)
I remember looking at this in Mids and for my BS/Fire and the total Mids was reporting for Headsplitter using this sort of combo was somewhere around 650+. Plugging the 162.5 base value from Red Tomax instead of 100 gives me a final figure of 692 so that sorta tallies with what I remember too.
Can't double check with Mids now though and so I (and/or Mids) could very well be wrong here (and Red Tomax doesn't have the new listings for the changes so I can't check there either if the FE damage is marked as ignoring Enhancements).
If I am wrong it means I'm now kicking myself (more) for not opting for a Fire Brute instead (my old Stone/Fire Brute is locked EU side and my BS/Fire scrapper is only 32 so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet) -
Quote:Given this (and it's true and one of the reasons my meleers tend to love picking on Warriors in the 20s) Council might be your best bet as a compromise. They are insanely common all the way through the game and tend to have a wide selection of ranged and meleers. It used to be, now for the most part it isn't.
A good tanker should be able to condense a spawn in just a few seconds though so all you need is for the team to wait a second or my preferred method for the tanker to snag the next spawn once 80-90% of the previous spawn is down (barring anything dangerous in the previous spawn that is). A good team will watch for the group to condense then immobilize and bring on the hurt.
Your experiment will need to have different mobs too; some are REALLY easy to gather tight (wolves are a classic example) while others are harder (ranged mobs primarily). This tips the balance considerably. A spawn of wolves will clump almost immediately while others are notorious for staying away (Nemesis come to mind here) and require a little more finesse and maybe a couple seconds more.
Council bases tend to be tunnels joining large rooms so i'm not sure if they'd be considered "fair" or not (I consider them a pain in the **** myself) or Council on a Tech or Office map might be better. -
Quote:Wait for i19. Your Blue Bar will thank you! (otherwise prepare to have a horrific Teen experience)I too can suggest Stone Melee if you're looking for a set which gives a feel of pure brutality. It comes close to surpassing Broadsword when a Brute really gets rolling. I can suggest Willpower or Electric to pair with it, as you'll want the endurance management. Willpower's easier to deal with of course, while Elec offers the bonus of +recharge.. Fiery Aura or Shield Defense for when you're looking for pure damage dealing though, with Fire having the bonus of end management.
I could totally see a Stone/Fire with custom lava Stone Melee
I haven't played my Stone/Fire since the Fire changes, I'd say it's pretty darn lovely now in terms of hideous amounts of hard hitting spike damage (especially if you stay Villianous and get Frenzy) -
Quote:That's a brilliant idea!A while back one of the Praetorian Police costumes sold for $595.
When the original Freakshow costume first came out, some copies sold for $400.
This is why I gave away my spare costume codes by declaring the actual codes publicly (and I think why Avatea did the same in the forum giveaways). People can't sell the codes if they have to race to enter them on the PlayNC website
I still think my idea of placing a code in the ending text of an AE arc was the best way to give one away ever
I got one for helping with an event Mothers Love organized but just gave it to my SG as a prize for something.
They're neat but not 200+ quid neat. -
For my Plant/Emp I'm stuck between Spiritual Core (better recharge and heals) and Nerve Radial (Hold, Confuse and Defense Buff).
Nerve Radial with my i19 build of Leadership (with Vengence) would be interesting in terms of playing a "If you be my Vengie Bait I'll rez and buff you to kingdom come" playstyle for buffing the entire team as much as possible. -
Quote:My cats breath smells like cat foodI was thanking nodblast for his time. Its something respectful people do. The comment you find so nonsectarian was simply explaining that people shouldnt patrol these post attempting to find contributors to pick with or argue with for the sake of strife. I was informing him that his feed back was concise and well spoken instead of mutating my point into some other form like the bugs in the re spec system as a hole just to win some small argument. Its OK if you dont know anyone like that. Its still meant for them.

Quote:There are indeed some great stories in the AE. But there are a few things which make it harder for me to play them.Threads like this make me a sad panda... not just because of what's being said, but what is behind it.
I'm going to echo Bubbawheat. Why is 'AE == farm' accepted as fact for some/most people and the actual stories ignored entirely? There are hundreds of awesome story arcs out there (putting most 'official' story arcs to shame, IMO), and most of them never get the chance to be played. Some authors might pour hundreds of hours of their time and creativity into creating a great arc that will get ~5 plays in a year, if that. Ask people in the AE building if they want to run a story arc and you'll get some blank stares, if that. But create a farm and watch the numbers soar!
See this thread (stickied, even!) for over 140 high-quality arcs. Nominate and vote in http://www.tinyurl.com/2010PlayersChoice for this year's Player's Choice awards. There's a huge wealth of great content out there in AE, even if most players don't care about it.
The Mission Architect is one of the most unique and awesome tools on the MMO scene currently. It needs to be improved and expanded, not scrapped.
somewhat dismayed,
-- Z.
1) Finding them. There's a lot of mediocre stuff in there, even some of the Dev Choices are poop. The filtering and locating of arcs is a PITA.
2) Bizarre XP mechanics. If you play an arc it's hard to know what sort of XP you're going to get or if some older mission is going to end up penalising you because it fell foul of some subsequently introduced anti-farming measure.
3) Finding a team to play them : This is a big one for me. Simply the fact that the damn things act like TFs removes a lot of the casual aspect from them, you can't do what you can do with Story arcs, where a team is constantly adding and losing players and changing. There is also the stigma of AE in general. Most people will either 1) Realise that you aren't doing a Farm Team and quit or 2) Refuse to join an AE team because they assume its either a Farm Team or some crappy mission the leader put together (which is often WORSE than a farm). Of the AE missions I've played via PuGs over the last few months it's been of this type *shudder* -
Quote:Some of us don't particularly give a fig about "genre" and play the game simply because it's an enjoyable game to play.I know! Lol. Maybe it would inspire me to save quicker!
I could however subscribe, even tho I can't plAy, and ***** about it in the forum!
I just think with other superhero games coming out.....eventually one of them will get it right and Coh will be dead. Doesn't nc soft want that to be an nc soft game? Pretty much everyone I know in game agrees, if a GOOD superhero game comes out, they will be outta here, and those are long time vets talkin. Let's be honest, the only reason any of us still play Coh (aside from having an older computer) is there Is no other good option. For this genre anyways. No one that has played for years can tell me they are still as excited playing Coh as they were their 1st couple years??? As soon as another real good game like this comes out, we are all outta here! Admit it! Lol. So make one nc soft! You did pretty good with this one! It's just gettin rusty now! -
Quote:I'm pretty sure something like Phantasm (who has a grand total of 0 melee attacks) running into melee range is a bug. The Devs may have intended the current set-up for Demoos (which is when it was introduced I think) but it's had bad knock-on effects on other pets and has to be considered a bug, regardless of the devs intentions for it.It's not a bug, it's WAI. The bug is that you used to be able to GOTO your pets to a spot and they'd stay there for the most part. I know the protector bots would run up to a mob to cast force field at it, but it was only the protector bots.
Now GOTO is useless.
I wish they'd revert pet AI back to pre issue 17 and I wish they'd fix the bots missile swarm but it ain't gonna happen, no matter how much we complain.
Pet AI is now screwy and unsuited for purpose, especially for Controllers. That's a bug, regardless of what the devs think (remember these are the same devs who took 6 months and a post in the scrappers forum to realise they had grossly overpowered Shield Charge when they made a change to it, they are human and nowhere near infallible). -
Quote:In my experience you do get lots more drops solo than when teaming, pretty much regardless of the spawn size you have set.I don't get this. At all.
You can earn 25 merits (1 random roll? or is it 20?) in a matter of hours, if not less, from doing solo story arcs. Even if you can only play 30 mins a day it should be doable in a week.
Also, in my experience playing solo doesn't earn you that many fewer drops than on a team. The drop rate per enemy is the same, and the drops get randomly devided over teammembers. So, more enemies, more drops, but also more people to divide the drops over. I'm tempted to say you'll actually get more drops while solo, even on +0x0. If you raise the number of enemies you'll definitely get more drops solo.
It's 20 merits for a random roll, so if you're doing any stories (other than Craptoria where the Merit Rewards are woeful) you can pretty quickly amass enough for a roll. You also get 50 the first time you do a Hero / Villain morality mission and re-enforce your morality, and an A-Merit which is worth 5 rolls after that (Rogues and Vigilantes get 50 merits instead each time they re-enforce I think?)
If you focus on running arcs and tips solo you can very quickly amass the things (my downfall is a combination of lack of focus on any one character and a love of the chaos and sheer randomness of PuGs. Even then I have a level 42 dual build Fort/Widow nicely Frankenslotted and with a nice wee collection of unique IOs I got from Random Rolls).
If I can overcome the crippling altisis and actually focus on a character for once getting some form of Incarnate Slot wouldn't take me long. -
Quote:That's the ongoing Pet AI bug, which is STILL unfixed. My robots like to stand BEHIND ME and fire, and then after drawing the aggro to me, they run into melee range to shoot, thus getting themselves killed....
Granted, I'm still learning these things, but it's always fun to hear the Mastermind of the group shouting "OH GOD! I'M GONNA DIE!" as they run out of the room with half the mobs chasing them.
Probably the worst thing affecting MMs at the moment. Any and all pets will attempt to close to melee range, even if they really shouldn't.
Of course I love it on my Plant/Emp controller, but Illusion is badly affected by it too.
Hopefully i19 has a fix for it in there somewhere (although I wouldn't hold my breath) -
Quote:Rain of Fire doesn't have a 2.0 accuracy, the Real Numbers are sorta lying to you on that one. The 2.0 accuracy is for the summoning / placing of the Pseudopet which does the rain effect. Its basically meaningless and you do need some Acc as the ticks themselves have pretty normal Acc as far as I remember (1.0 I think).I occasionally find that people don't know things about some of their powers, perhaps because some of these things are Non-Obvious. So, what are things that you know now about your powers, but which you didn't find out until long after you first picked a given power or decided not to?
My first few:
Traps/Devices:
* Web Grenade has a substantial -recharge debuff. It noticably reduces the damage output of many mobs.
* Caltrops has a very high magnitude "fear" effect (makes things run away) which can prevent things from attacking as often.
Traps:
* Poison Gas Trap is autohit, so accuracy is totally wasted on it.
Sonic Blast:
* Shockwave does NOT have the -resist debuff that the other powers do.
Fire Blast:
* Rain of Fire starts out with 2.0 accuracy, so +accuracy in it is relatively unnecessary for most purposes.
One of mine : The new Burn doesn't have an "Avoid" part built into it, but the burny fire patch will still make things Morale break pretty quickly and things will still do a runner pretty sharpish, this is annoying for Scrappers since they lack a Taunt Aura which would encourage the runners to stick around. -
Quote:Except they didn't, bar the most extreme cases. It was very handy for getting a few of my Brutes through the Terrible Teens in fact (especially the Stone/Fire *shudder*).well, and here I thought that was pretty much the perfect deterrant, too! Use it all you want, they'll just take it away when it gets fixed!
I've quite happily used the MA to do that with a few characters, mostly EU side. I haven't seen any of the new raft of exploits though, haven't been on any AE farms in absolute ages as I've had more interesting things to do.
