Don't forget, there IS a defense component to that LOTG - it's Defense/+Global Recharge Bonus (not to be confused with Defense/Recharge) - it may not be a large difference...
But when your dealing with that much Inf. and tweaking for bonuses you may as well get one that will work at whatever level you plan on exemp'ing down to.
Or at least keep that in mind if your crafting them to sell, some people will/may care about the level - LotG Defense/+7.5% Recharge Bonus & possibly with GotA Defense/+7.5% Run Speed Bonus.
With GotA its 7.2 Defense at level 15 vs. 14.5 Defense at level 40.
With LotG its 12.0 Defense at level 25 vs. 15.9 Defense at level 50.
These are the only two I can think of (at the moment) that people might not want at the lowest level possible, just saying... -

If it were only that simple..
They talked about doing some more work on bases, once semi-recently prior to I13 and back before that, "way back in the day".
I had to dig through some really old and dusty bookmarks to find this because its been so long.
Ok, It was semi-recently mentioned in a Massively.com article: "CoX Issue 13: All your base are belong to us?" by Adrian Bott, Jun 5th 2008 at 1:30PM
[ QUOTE ]
"The former Lord Recluse, Serdar Copur, first mentioned that 'both Supergroups and Bases will be getting some much needed love over the next few updates' [u]as long ago as April '07.[u]"
[/ QUOTE ] That last underlined part was a link to this article: CoH Community Quiz: Serdar Copur Q&A by Dana Massey, 9 Apr 2007 12:42 pm
These 2 articles talk about most of the the major problems & proposed additions or changes regarding Bases, in practice it's been a serious example of "Be careful what you wish for!"
IMO, The best thing they've done so far as Bases - was turning of the idiotic "pathing", and we don't really know if that's gonna be permanent.
The revamped base raiding stuff they had originally worked up for I13 - according to some reports of the internal testing... Well it turned out to be a fat sack o' suck (I am paraphrasing of course)
We do know there would likely be 'mass riots' (in the Base Building Community) if they were to bring back "raid pathing" without some option to leave it OFF for those that don't have any interest in having there Bases raided, EVER.
The Devs/Testers seemed to realize just how badly the destruction of Base Items was gonna suck - for most players and especially - the idea of losing Prestige due to damage, and/or just how the "Repair Items" would actually work, and that ever presuming there was no (or very little) loss of Prestige when items are "destroyed" - having to go back into the Editor and replace stuff would SUCK - even if they somehow managed to leave the raid pathing mostly off = So that "stacking" would still work for those into decorating their bases...
And the idea of how generic and boring PvP raid bases would probably end up being - assuming they'd be built almost entirely for function. They'd probably be an eyesore, and players would quite likely come up with the "Ideal PvP Base Builds" - with min-maxed FotM "Raiding Bases" - where players wouldn't want to use storage/workshops (or store anything valuable there.
I say that because, What happens if someone destroys a Salvage Bin? Or even worse, what happens if someone destroys an Enhancement Table? That could very easily be an "I feel a disturbance in the Force" moment... That could get really ugly, really quick.
People could (in theory) lose an insane amount of time/effort/inf if an Enhancement Table was "destroyed" - and if they made Enhancement Tables & Salvage Bins "indestructible" people would try and take advantage of this using them for "Cover" and/or to protect other Base Items.
Which leads us right back into the "Abusive Bases" problems mentioned in the Massively article link above.
IDK what they're gonna do about it - the original design for Bases was flawed, they've fixed some of the biggest problems - like Rent (not just the most recent change to lower the Rent costs), I'm referring to the setup (prior to when Rent was just based on Plot Size/Type), where you had to pay Rent that was a percentage of your SG's "Net Worth"!
The are a bunch of problematic things that would have to be addressed - and some group of players would/will be unhappy no matter what they might/may come up with to solve the inherent problems - AND people would complain due to whatever part/areas/functions of Bases they choose to work on or expand on next...
And back to my original concern you have to be very careful when you ask for some "Love for Bases" example, this last time:
Pros: = They turned off raid pathing (or most of it) and the bounding boxes or whatever they're called (it's late - and I'm a bit tired).
Cons: = They took away our Base Salvage - And gave us a B.S. explanation for it.
I suspect that they intended to have us rebuild/recraft 'Destroyed' Base Items with more Invention Salvage each time, Because:
1. The PvP'ers they wanted to please, might balk at needing to play in SG Mode to get Base Salvage. AND
2. I'm pretty sure that while they were doing the internal testing - they were almost certainly burning through Base Salvage - while repairing/rebuilding WAY faster than they were getting it! That could become a real "bottleneck" & it seems like somebody figured switching to Invention Salvage would solve the problem - and would make a good Inf Sink...
I have almost no doubt they were gonna throw in some sort of Prestige or Inf Sink in there. I say that because they reduced the "Base Rent/Upkeep" to a fairly trivial amount, & I don't see them doing that for no reason, without tacking another "cost" in there somewhere. I also really suspect "Upkeep" was going to be a much bigger thing than it is now.
Suffice it to say I'm more than a little bit hesitant about asking for any sort of "love" around here. I'm concerned it might be the kind of "love" that you Do Not Want, like the sort of "love" a person might end up getting in prison or something.Did I go to far just then? well... Maybe a just a tad, *shrug* - I'm just trying to make a point.
-
Honestly, I wasn't referring to any one poster in particular.
And, I wasn't really implying that people were "lying" per se, just that they talk about making TONS of Inf, then turn around and tell people they don't need Inf .
And basically claim that that people can have just as much fun without any "shinies" whatsoever.
Like, using all SO's or whatever - which I tend to call B.S. on for two reasons:
1. They DO have some "pimped out toons they can play if they want...
2. Saying that playing without "shinies" is just as much fun as playing with them - is oxymoronic.
IMO, that would be basically be like saying that "shinies" aren't "shiny".
Now... I'm not saying people can't enjoy the game without them, just that some people aren't 'practicing what they preach' (so to speak).
You don't fall into this category, you admit having toons you spent your Inf earnings on, AND that you have toons that you're frugal with - I understand that...
You're basically saying you have a your toons slotted in a variety of ways - which is all good (I do the same thing).
What ticks me off is the people that Do have toons with a bunch of shinys, (so they have the option of playing those toons)...
Who then proceed to tell other people they shouldn't be unhappy or disgruntled that they don't have the same option.
And usually they immediately accuse these people of not 'lrning2mrkt', or that they want everything for nothing, handed to them on a platter, "I win" button, etc.
It's really easy to look down on the have-nots when your a have-got & (IMO) that happens all too often around here. -
It's been asked and ignored previously, but that was before we had a Red Name...
Yeah, you should ask him - he's right over ther... *looks one way*
*looks the other way* - Uhm, well I know we had one.
It's that Peacebringer dude from Atlas Park, what's his name? uhm...
Oh wait, I remember - it's Sunstorm, we haven't seen or heard from him in ages though.

Don't bother trying to sway any opinions around here - esp. when it comes to the NGoat. You won't likely find a more stubborn Pro-Market "Pundit". (Ok, NG might not be THE most stubborn, but NG is definitely in Top 5 or so.)
[ QUOTE ]
However I didn't say everything in there was expensive. But its disheartening to know I gotta run around all day back and forth and hope and pray the prices have changed. I'd rather be playing the game since my time is limited.

Careful when taking this tack, or somebody will pop-up with One or Both of the following cliche/cop-out comebacks:
1. "You don't have to use the market you can play just fine with SO's.... *wah-wan-wan-wah* =(all the "Peanuts" adults voice's sound).
The main counter-point here is that IO's are a much larger part of the game at this point than most will admit, particularly when they're arguing this as an "option" to the market. That being, "Just don't use it at all", (and somehow be content with that), "after all no one is forcing you to use it..."
2. "Would you rather go back to the pre-market days when normally you couldn't afford SO's at levels X, Y, & Z. therefore I <3 the Market & so should you!"
This is simply verbal redirection, dismissing whatever point you might be trying to make, and often they turn the thread toward repeating some of their standard rhetoric...
i.e. "Would you like unpleasant option A or B?"

Caution: If you haven't "seen there light", and embraced their viewpoints...
You'll likely be accused of being a "market-hater", OR "unwilling to learn" (which auto-magically "enlightens" you as far as their concerned) - or you haven't "learned yet" in their mind...
OR, they start talking about Tinfoil-Hats... Because, obviously if you don't share their view(s) = then you must be one (or more) of the following: crazy, paranoid, a conspiracy theorist, or some other flavor of wacko!
Btw, it is possible to learn to use the market, AND still disagree with certain people and the way the use/play the market.
Just don't drink the Kool-Aid!
But it still makes me wonder, when people brag about all their "Ebil" (read: greedy/self-centered) marketeering, and then a few posts or threads later - talk about how they really don't spend that much Inf on their characters?!
Quite often this is followed by claims of various Philanthropy... "I hook-up my whole SG with everything" and/or Charity with "screenshots to prove it"...
Do you really believe they somehow DON'T have at least a handful of completely 'pimped-out' Characters?
Or maybe they just "swim in piles of (unused) Inf", and meanwhile they play with characters that use nearly all SO's or Common IO's, or cheapo "franken-slotable" Set IO's? seriously... -
You should be able to rotate them if they're mounted on a "wall item" - which you can successively stack on each other out from a wall (some of the wall lamps work well for this, or the SG Banners)
Also, the little prefab "Cubicle" will let you place wall objects on them - the rounded light fixtures (i forget the exact name atm) are fairly easy way to Rotate a Wall Item or TP Beacons at odd angles...
I've got some of the big paintings placed at 45 degree angles in a couple corners in one of my villain base's Control Rooms back above & behind the Supercomputer.
And, whenever I get back around to that base... I'm going to try to move the Mega-Monitor and at least one of the wall mounted control items on each side of a Supercomputer, for a sort of 'wrap-around' look. IIRC, I hit the limit for attachable control items in that room and didn't want to move the O'Pillar out of the room - because of it's close proximity to the Base Entrance.
Anywho, you can put the beacons at Non-90 degree angles = On the "Large Sconce" light, (or one of the others that looks like it should be in a pool - I'm thinking its a 'Flood Light' maybe? - so uhm... yeah, give that a try.
I'm not in-game at the moment or I'd check - there's more info on the Cubicle "trick" in the i13 Stacking Tools sticky thread above - it makes place wall items in the middle of a room much easier - rather than stacking a bunch of lamps out from a wall, OR down from the ceiling! -
Well, I posted my take on it - in the thread where you brought it up... It was long and detailed but the short answer is - pretty much no, the conversion rate is ludicrous and people that are "base-builders" aren't quite as likely to spend time marketing, farming, etc.
So they (most likely) wouldn't have the 100's of Millions or Billions of Inf to spare - that they'd need... in order to convert it into a really meaningful amount of Prestige.
(Note: the above is - IMHO.) -
I can't speak for everyone of course, but I lurk/reside in that forum quite a bit and I can only recall a couple of posters that have (or would) publicly admit to wasting Inf. that way!
AFAIK, There's only one person in the last 3-4 months that's come in and talked about converting a Pile of Inf into Prestige... I believe they converted 50 million Inf into 1 million Prestige
That conversion rate IS atrocious, Unless you're absolutely swimming in Inf - AND want to waste it all - (without knowing if/what they may or may not do with Bases in the future)!
Once you have a certain amount of prestige - you're pretty much set - as it is...
And that really depends on what you want out of a Base, Also makes a big difference if you're playing on Blue-side or Red-side & want Teleporters to all the zones.
You can fit them all in on Red-side on an 8x8 base and workshop, storage, medbay - if you have the SG Badge and enough Inf to buy the Supercomputer for Control, and a couple other hurdles you have to jump thru to make that all fit right.
On an 8x12 plot or larger = it's pretty easy Red-side, that's part of why/how people got into decorating their bases in all sorts of crazy ways.
Blue-side you need a bigger plot and a much bigger chunk of Prestige to get "everything" (that works and/or has a purpose atm) = mostly all the Teleporters/Beacons aad the Power & Control to run them.
If they ever figure out a way to do base raiding in a manner that doesn't suck - and give you a reason to have Base "Defenses" and maybe Raid Teleporters.
But there is A LOT of suck having your Base (and it's "stuff") destroyed, so much suckage - that most people wouldn't want to participate. That's (essentially) what they found out in internal testing - the last time when they tried to "Revamp Bases".
Nobody wants to face the prospect of permanently losing Prestige when an item is destroyed, or rather have to re-buy stuff with more "new" Prestige. There are several roadblocks to making the Defenses/Base Raiding work... Like, what happens to storage items in a fight, can they be destroyed? If so then what happens to the contents? or are storage items indestructible? are workshops off-limits? Would people choose not to participate (MOST LIKELY SO), or would people have more than one SG or VG with one base for Raiding and the other for storage? AS it stands that would require new bases & people would have to have multiple accounts or the "Raiding SG/VG's wouldn't be able to have any safe storage for IO's...
IDK, if they'll ever manage to make it fun - (to do it more than once)
Or maybe a way to use the "Mission Computer" to do anything beside that one SF Red-side - like having "missions" that are similar to NPC "ambushes" attack your Base or something along those lines it might be worth doing.
AND, Ironically the Price Reductions on Bases don't really help starting Groups that much you still need several hundred thousand (preferably a couple million) Prestige to get beyond the first few initial hurdles... Once you get beyond those hurdles, there's not much to do with prestige past a certain point except decorate and we found out the hard way that having more than 12,000 items in your Base can corrupt it.
[u]TL;DR version:[u]
If you want to flush TONS of Inf buying Prestige, Go right ahead - most of the Base-Builders will try not to laugh at you (at least to your face) about it.
Seriously, I doubt they would laugh, they might /facepalm and feel sorry for you though. -

And in this case, considering they've been all over this sorta thing lately, I'm thinking they would (presumably) read the post/thread - think about it for a second, then *grimace* & possibly /facepalm or /facedesk a couple times.
After that I see them sending a PM, IM, tweat (or whatever) to the appropriate person and/or persons - that will probably be none to pleased with the question posed by this hypothesis.
Or would that be classified as a theory(?) or maybe conjecture... I really don't know? But I wouldn't want to have to answer a question like that - or especially have it hanging over my head this weekend, then possibly have to debate it in the office on Monday or Tuesday = whenever.
I say that because (in theory) something like this could set a "precedent" of sorts, maybe? That really appears to be the goal here (IMHO)...
Props to the Bunny, for an exceptionally clever "stump the Devs" question - Trying to clear away some of the whole wishy-washy B.S. of "if it feels like an exploit don't do it OR they'll either:
1. Pretend to ignore the situation unless or until you tell everyone about it in broadcast & all over the forums.
2. Slap your hand (with a temp ban, or something) = to be determined later - after the fact.
3. 'Pimp-slap' you, your characters, and possibly banning your account(s) into the next room! (or maybe the next game as it were).
Honestly, I stayed away from all the controversial AE stuff and spent a decent chunk of my play-time buying some of the drastically reduced "clearance sale priced" recipes or placing lowball bids for them (and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the bargains I successful snagged). It was also a pretty sweet time to be selling certain stuffz as well.
And I would never have thought they'd suddenly go all aggro on Level-Pacts - after they've been around in the game now for a fairly decent period of time - that sorta seemed to come outta nowhere...
You've really outdone yourself on this time Smurphy - but its almost an altruistic move there... careful or someone might revoke your "ebil ghetto pass"!
Edited for clarity -
Well for what it's worth I happened upon a lvl 10 - Pulverizing Fisticuffs: Acc/Dam/Rech/End, while doing a "kill 10 Outcasts in Steel Canyon" mission last night.
I know (noticed) that it dropped right after fighting 2 orange Outcast Bosses - on a level 10 toon set on Heroic, in the intersection in Steel Canyon just between the WW's & the University - heading North toward Positron & Valkyrie.
Woo-hoo... the lowest level quad IO possible, ain't I lucky!
I seriously couldn't decide what to do with the darn thing, ill have to decide next time I login that alt I guess (iirc, there was no history for the recipe or the crafted IO).
I can't really see anyone wanting one of these at level 10, unless they want a really low-level "flashback" dual-build - maybe?
EDIT: Actually, that might have sold pretty well - back when people were doing the Negotiator badge flashback mission @ 4 merits a run... oh well. *sigh*
2nd Edit: (Doh, I just realized that alt was level 10 (not 12) when that recipe dropped.) -
Listing any item for sale is a bit like playing that first bit of "The Prices Is Right" - you have to figure out a guess-timate of what to list your item at - nearest the Sale/Bidding price "without going over"...
You'll probably get a 'feel for it' eventually, you can practice with salvage to begin, with much less Inf at stake if you happen to 'flub-up' at first. -

I think I can say with relative certainty that Pneumatic Piston goes for that price (at times) because it's the - Tech, Tier3, Uncommon Salvage that's called for in the "Increase Recovery" Empowerment Buff.
It's much the same with the 2 commons needed for that Buff, and although they are common, they're also used in High-level Common IO's.
So, all three of those pieces of salvage (at times) tend to feel the effects of "by it NOW" pricing. Especially a week or so ago - during the initial MA/AE craze... -
Same thing here... Hero/Blue screen on Villain/Red background - may have to due with the virtual-riots (see what did there?)

Edit: I'm seeing multiple reports of this, but I just tested it and can delete them with no problem.
How are people trying to delete them?
[/ QUOTE ]
They aren't doing it the right way - it still works.
You can't delete it from the 'Buff Bar', just like you can't click on the Day Job Bonuses up there and see the amount of time left on them, you have to go down and open your 'Powers' window and click (or right click) the power there in the Temp Powers Section.
The idea that anyone would delete 10,000 salvage in this ridiculously Tedious manner to get Fabricator - ASAP is pretty silly - or they have a really serious OCD problem, or are a serious 'gotta have it NAO badger" - which seems a bit oxymoronic to me.
That is of course - a whole different story than someone who doesn't feel the badge should require 10K Enhancement "craftings" (and/or Empowerment Buff "craftings").
(IMO) - Odds are anyone arguing this should be the case, already has it on their 'main' badger(s?) or they're just a hater. -

I doubt ANYONE has even come close to getting it Mostly off of Enhancements.
Whether they'd admit it or not, is another matter - claiming others use "easy-mode" - while they do not (in any game/situation) - its just too satisfying for some folks - they just can't avoid this sort of opportunity for snobbishness (or maybe that would that be snobbery? - whatever). -

Not at all.
I got it well before brainstorms ever existed. So did every other person who really wanted it. Fabricator is an epic badge. It was obviously intended to require epic level effort to receive. So a later issue has a feature that makes it much easier to get the epic badge, but that ability was unintended, how does the removal of that feature somehow retroactively mean that the badge was never intended to be epic in the first place? Heck, when Fabricator's requirements were set the Devs probably hadn't even considered removing base salvage yet or creating the whole Brainstorm system.
The badge is still available (not like some >cough<. Anyone can still get it the same way everyone else got it prior to i13. Easy-mode for this badge has been removed, that's all.

Please, kindly take your "Easy-Mode" Garbage/Snark and shove it somewhere very, very dark. -
I bet almost anything that's not a base decorative item, It's a character with the Pumpkin/Hat Costume piece - sitting under all that stuff when they took the pic...
That's a pretty creative idea, idk if I'd have ever thought to do that. -
Actually for Tabula Rasa NCsoft is:
"If you are a player that has pre-paid for Tabula Rasa subscription time beyond January 10, 2009, you will be refunded for that pre-paid time by February 28, 2009."
You can look HERE for the full details, but in short - they're doing all their customers right, beyond that even (IMO at least) I'm looking forward to the Aion stuff.
Granted that's how I got into TR (after they did basically the same thing when Auto Assualt shutdown), tbh I had more fun during the TR beta than after release, and it's a real shame - looking at the TR site it looks like they're just got all the cool stuff ready to go & some of the things like the crafting system redone into a cool system vs what it was at launch, and the Personal Armor Units - to bad it took a year to get it all straight. And the economy being as bad as it is had to be a factor in their decision to shut it down.
And I'd really been on the fence about getting back into TR again to try out all the redone & 'looked forward to' stuff...
(I've had an active TR account the whole time = I paid for a 1 year sub at Launch. But I've been busy with COX trying to keep up with all my alt-itis, in conjunction the 60 limit = Market Wipe, and all the Seasonal Events/Invasions, etc.)
I think it that really says something good about CoX & NCsoft. I've checked out the competition in the Hero Genre - and "it's been weighed and found wanting" aka no true "HERO System" Character creation in CO, and a gamepad control setup - Especially with DCUO = they both seem like console fighting games not MMO's.
At first glance Aion doesn't seem "up my alley" really, but I was digging around on-line the other day and read that it's using a Modified version of the "CryEngine 1"- and that REALLY has my hopes up. The draw distance in FarCry was legendary - and the lack of draw-distance in Tabula Rasa was it's downfall in my book.
(I mean 60 yard range on a rifle & a 90 yard range on a sniper rifle?!?! = /facedesk, /facedesk, / facedesk)
I'm looking forward to the Aion Beta - and praying they have more realistic draw distance for ranged weapons, maybe not FarCry sniper rifle range, but something more believable than TR had. (what can I say, draw-distance is a big deal for me, I like to play the "marksmen"/sniper role - I wonder if they'll have a fantasy-ish version of that?
Anywho, If Aion seems decent they'll probably get at least another year sub outta me for Aion, and I'm not quitting CoX anytime in the foreseeable future. I have a sub thru next Sept iirc and I'll probably take advantage of this Holiday Deal too - so I'll likely be playing thru... something like 2011 - at the least.
And if they did shutdown CoX, I believe (from past experience with AA & TR) they would refund pre-paid time beyond the date the server goes down or 'free'. Unless maybe ALL of NCsoft somehow went under, and I just can't see that happening - and certainly not in the 'foreseeable' future! -
Not sure what number I am (somebody in the list didn't really count, i think)
But the first thing I thought of was:
"We live in a mobile home. It's like a cave, with wheels. You can go places. Except we never went anywhere."
Probably just something to do with all the great ideas around here we could build with a better editor...
*sigh* -
My issue with the merit system (as it stands) is that, It's ALL ABOUT curtailing/curbing/reducing "Farming" & preventing farmers/players from "Exploiting" the system at all costs.
Meanwhile, back at the batcave:
Everyone else got thrown under the bus!, so to speak...
I understand the issue of trying to stop exploits & some players getting "too much stuff, too quickly".
I don't understand the need for this concern to seriously outweigh the "Fun Factor"/general enjoyment of the system for everyone else.
The long drawn out explanations along the lines of...
"Well, see this is how you can play and still get a decent amount (aka worthwhile number) of merits in a reasonable amount of time". That is of course, IF you spend all that time on ONE character.
But, If you have alt-itis?
Well, just forget about Merits and one day (someday?) you may login, accidentally stumble by the Merit Vendor and realize you have enough to actually buy 1 recipe on that Character!
I'm happy that I actually have a possibility of getting Pool C recipes - outside of trying to do (uninterrupted by RL concerns) TF's, or blowing a Toon's entire bankroll on one at the market - seriously I am.
But the total number of Merits I've seen so far on ALL my alts - spread across several servers - just MIGHT be enough to buy 1 nifty recipe or maybe 2 really "cheap" ones.
It's looking really disappointing so far. -

Building blocks of varying sizes so we don't have to keep using counters and desks to create second levels.

This would be very nice...
One fairly small thing I'd like to add to this:
A request for "Floor Tiles", Desks/Building Blocks, and this sort of thing - with VERY simple Textures that don't (won't) tear and flicker when overlapped, please!? -

Third time eh? You would think people would learn and expect something a third time
[/ QUOTE ]
We were explicitly told they would announce it ahead of time. I understand that they're shorthanded and stuff slips through the cracks, but when it happened before, another freespec was granted to correct the oversight. I would expect the same thing to happen this time. It doesn't really matter to me personally a whole lot either way; I have more Vet Respecs than I ever use on any character I make. I'd just seen some people upset over it and figured I would try to be the first to bring it up since I'm calm about it and some people aren't.

And I don't understand why people should feel they deserve a freespec on a new character. Its new!!
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't mean to imply that anyone "deserved" a freespec on new characters; it's just a nice bonus side effect to the way that they've almost always granted freespecs.
Bottom line is, they said they would announce it ahead of time and they didn't , and when it happened before they issued another one shortly thereafter. The fact that they're short-handed probably has something to do with it, but why it happened doesn't matter. It was an oversight, and it's no big deal, but they corrected such an oversight before. I was merely asking if this oversight would be corrected again.

Personally, I noticed - fairly late Monday night (sometime around 6-8 PM?), the notice that the servers would come down Tuesday from 6 to 11AM CST to update the servers for I13.
And I wondered if they were going to give out freespecs with I13 or not, and there was NO notice of it anywhere - believe me I looked...
Always one to sees both sides of the coin - I figured they probably WOULD give them out. But, then again maybe they wanted to "encourage" people to buy the from their online store for $10 a piece, I mean think about all that money!
Note: I've never bought a Respec & can't ever see myself doing so, but many people that have-to-have stuff may spend the $ on them, (if they have it to spend, of course).
So, I didn't use any Freespecs (I had been waiting to do this with a couple Characters... But the TR was invariably locked down or the copy tool off-line so, I put it off.)
I basically kept putting it off until I found out if we were getting them again this Issue, but that didn't happen?
What was I thinking?Surely, they wouldn't do this to us 3 times in a row!
Oh wait, Hold on... I feel a great disturbance in the "Sense of Entitlement Police", as if millions of snarky voices suddenly cried out, (brown-nosing the infallibility of the Devs) and were suddenly silenced.I pray something horrible has befallen them.
So never mind that, back to what I was saying... Yeah - this really shouldn't have happened again.
I get that maybe they didn't want to 'telegraph' the release of I13, before they were 100% certain they would publish it on Tuesday. But they could have at least waited, say maybe a week(?) until after I13 was released, and THEN given out the Freespecs.
As for why new characters "need them", (technically maybe not) But, people are bound to pick powers on new characters that are a real mistake for the Toon in question. Maybe one of the new Shield or Pain Domination powers that disappoints, or for example: Doesn't accept the set IO's the player expected them to.
Last time I checked you can only see that particular info AFTER you already have the power, or maybe during character creation. IIRC, you can't even see what sets are accepted by a Power before you pick them, while leveling-up at a Trainer! -

Of course the thread is no longer around so I cannot get the answer...
In the past couple months Niv locked a post here where someone was selling the costume code from one of the conventions for inf. So I am betting they will say this is a no no as far as the rules go.
I don't really understand/agree with that decision nor would I agree if they said this was also a no no.
But all that aside, when in a pact, does the logged out party get a cut of the inf or just exp?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think just the XP.
Which leads me to the point: I'm willing to SELL people a levelpact spot so that they can slow themselves down. If I'm going to levelpact so that you can double the inf:xp ratio and get twice as many drops per level, then I expect to get a cut on those benefits.
[/ QUOTE ]
My first thought upon reading this was pretty much the same.
"Wait, So... you want people to pay you for this "service"?
While you'll (effectively) be getting twice as many Salvage & Recipe Drops (especially in the lower & mid level 'sweet spot' - so far as recipes go), and Merits, and Inf!
/facepalm
That's gotta be simultaneously - the most brilliant & idiotic scam I've heard somebody try to pull-off in a long fraking time.
Good luck with that, If people really do end up paying YOU Influence or Infamy for this "service" - they deserve to get grifted like this.
I suppose it could be seen as a "Social Darwinism Tax".
