    I actually had this happen too. I'm thinking Paragon's e-mail system is really flaky. The e-mail showed up yesterday, but says it was sent on Thursday. And this is to a gmail account that has no discernible lag in it's processing unless the whole thing is offline for an hour or two. My account is active anyway, so it didn't matter to me, but I seem to fairly regularly get e-mails about CoH events after they're done, but flagged as being sent like four days earlier.
  3. I think the biggest problem that I have with all this is how completely frustrating this is to players. Not because the encounter is difficult, or the AV has ridiculous regen, or something along those lines. Any of this can be overcome by the players if they're smart. If the run logic actually IS set up so that if an AV can't hit you, he just runs away, well, that's pretty stupid as a game design choice.

    Does it make sense as a real-world option? Yes, absolutely, but how much of what we do in this game actually makes sense for the real-world?

    As I pointed out earlier, I don't necessarily have any objection to Minions, Lieutenants and regular Bosses having some logic that causes them to run, but Arch Villains? Let's take a look at that rank itself.... ARCH Villain. Aren't these the guys that are so tough and, typically, arrogant that nothing's going to make them run?

    Basically, no critter that's a specific mission objective should be allowed to run all over the map just because he's being debuffed, unless there's some relatively easy way of keeping them in place. Especially with AVs, that's just silly.

  5. And make very sure never to drop a slow toggle on Romulus.... he'll run all over the place, and you really don't want to try to take down the Nictus AVs directly if you can help it.

    This isn't a new phenomenon, the run code has been messed up for as long as I can remember, it's gotten to the point that the people I team with have stopped complaining.

    The run AI definitely needs some tweaking. It's bad enough on regular critters, but AVs? Really? Arch Villains feel the need to run away? Other than completely leaving the scene (see Positron on the old Tina McIntyre arc.... or was it Maria J? either way...) when he can tell he's beat, what's with EBs and especially AVs running all over the damn map?

  12. I've got my three characters on test from the Dual Pistols beta that got level-bumped (2 heroes, 1 villain) and I think each has 9999 merits from the level bumps. I might have spent a few on one of them, but that should represent 1500 more rolls if you want them. Just let me know which option to roll from.

    Well BaBs... not really.

    If you look at the person that wants unpredictability, they are referring more to the placement of assorted objectives within an existing map. I think we all recognize that randomizing the actual maps would be a nightmare from a programming/capacity standpoint, and for anyone who doesn't already realize that, think about how much power it would take to randomize a map, then make sure that all the rooms with an objective link up, don't overlap, etc.... for every single mission.

    The problem that I see with the predictability is that for a given office map there are (for arguments sake) 20 spawns that will show up and need to be dealt with. But there are only 24 or 25 spawn points that they can possibly be in. Therefore we know exactly where every mob is going to be. I may be misunderstanding their comment (from their own reply, I'm pretty sure not, though) but this would be made much greater by adding many more spawn points to the maps, so that there are 20 spawns and 50 or 60 different locations for them to show up in. I'm sure this would be less processing needed than actual random maps, but also that it would certainly be more than is needed now. What I don't know is how prohibitive this additional required capacity could be.

    Assuming that this additional power is not prohibitive, I'd think that adding the more random placement of spawns combined with a building layout that makes a little bit of sense would actually satisfy both posters' gripes with the current maps.

    We all know how streaky CoH's RNG can be at times; or how, when you're fighting a pack of Rikti monkeys, the NEXT spawn (or two, or three, or five) also tends to be Monkeys as well.
    As unpleasant as this may be to experience, this is actually a sign of a properly functioning RNG. Any string of truly random numbers will include streaks of lengths varying from short to unbelievably long.

    As much as I chuckle at many of the aspects of the show Numb3rs, they did this one perfectly in one episode where the agents were asked to distribute themselves "randomly" in the room, only to be pretty evenly spaced, rather than having a couple clusters and a couple voids in the spacing, which is what a distribution that was actually random would produce.
  16. The truly sad part about this bug is that they disconnected TFs from the team difficulty slider because people were running Master Of.... runs on -1. So now, the ONLY OPTION is at -1.

    If this is how the system runs, please just make the difficulty slider apply again, so those of us that like a little bit of a challenge in our TFs can get it. Anybody doing a Master Of run the last few days has had the "exploit" difficulty level hard-coded in, so what's the point?

  18. Actually, that's not quite accurate.

    The first couple times that we ran across this, I believe that it was someone that entered the mission from another zone as the first person in the mission.

    The third time this hit us, however, the only person that entered the mission before I did (I was the team lead and mission holder) entered from the SAME zone I was in.

    EDIT: To clarifiy, Most of the team was in PI2, there were a couple in PI1. The final time we noticed this, I was in PI2, and the first person to enter the mission was ALSO in PI2, but the mission spawned with his settings.

Running through some arc missions the other night in Peregrine Island on Freedom, we noticed that several missions got spawned for a lower difficulty level than I had set on my character (I was the team leader and the mission holder). We had the difficulty set to +4/x4/Boss no/AV yes. This was with a full team, so the only setting that should matter was the +4.

    Thinking back after this, we realized that due to congestion, the team was split up into multiple zones, where most of the team, including myself, was in PI2, while a couple others were in PI1, and that someone from PI1 had entered the mission first with a lower level and lower difficulty settings.

    Further testing showed that if the team is split into multiple zones, the system appears to be spawning the maps based on the level and difficulty setting of the first person to enter the instance, regardless of what zone they enter from, even if they're in the same zone as the mission holder.

    /bug'd in game, but I haven't heard anything in terms of a reply or anything yet.

    Both very good points. I would suspect that this has been a problem for some players/characters since i9 first came out, with greater and lesser effects depending on what else was happening along the way. For whatever reason, the current version happened to cause the effect to be wider than it had been in the past.

    As far as the cause of the behavior, I absolutely agree. I absolutely love that the Dev team here is comfortable enough in the overall product that they're willing to be this forthcoming, ranging from Synapse saying that they were looking at things still to him stating they'd found something but he wanted Pohsyb to explain it, all the way to the exact nature of the bug from Pohsyb. I may still have my concerns about the "perception issue" description, but it's quite obvious that even having said that, Synapse and crew kept digging in to things to be sure they were dealing with it properly.

    Well done, Devs. Especially Synapse and Pohsyb.

    To be honest, it sounds like it existed and affected things to some extent all along, but was exacerbated with some of the other items that changed in i16.
