Survived with account name and global intact.
I know several people who haven't though.
And I'm still not happy about the way it was handled. -
There's no Fear effects in the BAF, there's a confuse aura on the minions and Lieutenants, but Tactics can offset that, either running it yourself or from someone else on your team. The only reason I can think that you're seeing fear effects in the BAF is that someone else using fear powers (Mind controller/Dom, Illusion controller, whatever) is getting tagged by the confuse and hitting you with their fears.
Fear/Terrorise is thrown around in Lambda by Augurs, I think.
If it's really such a big deal, then think about picking up Clarion for your Destiny slot, as it covers everything and can be made perma at higher tiers. Again, Tactics provides some help, but it's only resistance, not protection, IIRC. -
I've got 3 characters that always have something going on with the markets, they're my three with Field Crafter.
I log them on first of an evening, pick up inf from sales overnight, make and list new things, bid for salvage as needed, then alt to whichever alt(s) I end up playing that night.
At the end of the evening, they get checked again, and if needed their slots refreshed.
Takes about 5-10 minutes at the beginning and end of the evening, so 10-20 minutes total. Oh, and the VAST bulk of my turnover is common salvage and Generic IO's, so I'm not playing with big lumps of inf at a time, but it all adds up eventually.
If another character fills up on salvage/recipes due to being played, I'll drop their goods on the markets and leave them to cook until I next play that alt, which can vary from a day to 4 months... -
Quote:Server lag playing hell with recharge timers, most likely. Not sure why every is having problems getting the Pets out twice while taking on the AV. I normally cast mine out as soon as I get out of the sabotage phase and they are up when the timer hits about 3-5 minutes. Which is about the time Unstop is popped and I was able to cast them a second time.
It was especially noticeable when they had done 'something weird to leagues', as all the server lag was leaving me kicking out about 1/5th my usual damage as I was sat there waiting for normally quick powers to recharge after I'd burned through my attacks and debuffs on my Sonic/Cold Corruptor. <warning: Anecdote> I've noticed that if you have enough reinforcements from the portals and they're not being culled, then you can still get lag that's enough to delay recharges from all the IDF stacking buffs, aoe attacks, etc etc. </anecdote>
Anyway on a personal note, I've decided that Master of Lambda as it stands is a stupid bit of irritating game/reward design that I want absolutely nothing to do with.
So I'm ignoring it. And assuming that it never gets significantly changed, then I guess I'll keep ignoring it. -
Quote:Depending on how his alzheimers goes there may not be too many moreThanks for all the feedback, everyone. Going to grab Good Omens and American Gods, and pick away at the rest as best I can. That Pratchett boy has written a few books!
I was also surprised at how long it took Good Omens to surface in this thread. Speaking of which - it's apparently being adapted into a 4 part tv series. -
I always have to like the background idea, costume, playstyle or ideally all three of a character before I'll take it to 50.
(a side effect of this is that my characters spend 95% of their time in their initial starting costume since I make my mind up on a character at level 21, a holdover of 'if I can't hack it with slotted stamina on this toon I'm not going to take it any further')
To me, if you're playing a toon just because 'the numbers say it'll be the best ever' then you're doing it wrong. I'm not going to try and stop anyone doing that if it's what floats their boat, but it's not for me. -
Quote:I think 'crowd' may be overstating it a little.Primary annoyances? The PVP crowd spamming useless PVP questions.
One or two people posting the same question (that they'd already been told several times that the people on the stream couldn't answer) everytime their chat cooldown was up was more what I saw.
And that chat cooldown was one of the primary annoyance from last night, mainly when combined with my long ingrained CoH habit of hitting <Enter> before trying to chat, which instantly led to a 60 second wait before I could type anything I may have wanted to say...
And let's not mention the rather odd sensation of seeing answers appear in chat before the transatlantically delayed video stream actually asked the question for the quizzes. I gave up on the quizzes after the second time it happened. -
Quote:Take Frost. So, on a whim I started an Ice/Ice Tanker to run through preatorian content and give me a break from the EAT I have. I wanted to get a basic idea of how I should make one. I figure they're scrappers in reverse, but I know that's probably wrong in so many ways. I busted heads on my way to 10 and probably borked my power picks and thought I'd come here before going further. So far I've got Frozen Fists, Ice Sword, and air superiority in my attack chain, taunt is on auto. I've Taken Hoarfrost, Chilling Embrace, and Permafrost from my primary. Am I doomed?
Slot Frost.
Get used to using Frost and positioning yourself to catch more than one mob in the cone.
It's your best DPA attack, according to pretty much any of the ice melee guides I've see that've crunched the numbers.
Other than that, by level 10 on an Ice tanker I'd Want Frozen Armour and Wet Ice ASAP, Chilling Embrace next and then Hoarfrost in terms of priorities.
Frozen Fists, Brawl, Veteran attacks (if you've got any) and Frost should be a workable attack chain at low levels.
Grab Ice Patch ASAP, it adds so much survivability to melee it's not even funny
Other than that, once you get Energy Absorption, it's hard to doom an Ice/Ice tanker defensively. -
Mea culpa. I was running from vague memories of the numbers, rather than checking them in game. I thought something felt wrong about the numbers, but couldn't put my finger on it at the time.
And on a side note, personally, as someone who plays a 99% non-IO'd (Perf Shifter procs in QR, Stamina and PP, that's it.) DB/WP scrapper, I like Thousand Cuts. Mainly because it's sounds so satisfying when you hit several targets with it, but also because it's the start of the Sweep Combo which does all sorts of good things for my survivability my knocking a lot of the nasties around me onto their backs, giving RTTC time to work.
I fully accept it's different when you get into high grade builds, but that's not what interests me -
Quote:Katana and Dual Blades both have the same number of AoE's available to them. For AoE, Katana still has Flashing Steel and Lotus while DB only has one other AoE attack aside from Sweep, which loses its effectiveness once your recharge is up.
Katana has 2 cones - Golden Dragonfly and Flashing Steel and one PBAoE - Lotus Drops.
Dual Blades has 2 cones - Thousand Cuts and Sweeping Strike and one PBAoE - Typhoon's Edge.
Katana has one wide cone (FS, ~180degree) and one narrow cone (GD ~45degree). Dual Blades has two 90 degree cones, so sort of middling in area, but if things get hit by one, they're likely to get hit by the other.
So I'm either misunderstanding your statement, or you forgot about one of DB's AoE's -
Quote:Umm, I wasn't talking about DDR, I was talking about the scaling damage resistance that SR gets from its passives and Widows get from Foresight.I also think its irrelevant for NWs.
They can, easily, reach the incarnate softcap. Its not a guarantee that you will not get defense debuffed, but I really can't remember a single death on my NW - ever - from cascading defense failure.
Most deaths on a top end Night Widow build will come from things like unlucky RNG moments, auto hit damage, etc. -
-
Congratulations on the cap. And the top hat and monocle, too
Once you've inf capped your first toon, the second takes less effort. Significantly less effort.
So far as decking out another of your alts with IO's, I'd personally suggest only doing that if you actually enjoy the process of coming up with the build and implementing it.
I hate the faff on involved in the whole process, so I've IO'd the grand total of one of my toons properly, and he's my Stone/Fire scranker who's now effectively immune to normal content (by my definition of being able to survive aggro capped Carnival of Shadows indefinitely with no end or health problems). -
Quote:Dull Pain is faster activating than Earth's Embrace, but the recharges are identical, according to tomax.I need to check my mids when I get home, I'm not sure why I thought EE's recharge was longer.
The longer activation time can, and has several times for me, ended up with a faceplant as enough damage arrives in those two seconds to flatten you. -
Quote:Slightly necro-ish, but I'm afraid the most you could demand in payment would be 56,000,000,000 inf. That'll be 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000.37 inf!
And you'd need to squeeze every player of the game dry to get that much. Allegedly -
Quote:Reading that FAQ confuses me too.Im confused now.
I though GSA was coming in May, just got delayed for technical issues, but now I read is happening at the end of summer, exactly like they said in first place, so...
What we can expect?
Quote:Global Server Access will be available to all our active subscribers by the end of summer.
Quote:The Reactivation will take place after Global server Access has been enabled between Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time (9:00 p.m. Eastern Time / 2:00 a.m. British Time / 3:00 Central European Time) and Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (2:59 a.m. Eastern Time / 7:59 a.m. British Time / 8:59 Central European Time).
To be honest, I think that FAQ needs to be taken out back, shot through the head; and then replaced with one that's explicit and clear on exactly what's going to happen and when and in what order, because I was under the impression that the whole point of the reactivation period was to allow multiple transatlantic account holders to change their inactive account names to prevent any conflicts happening in the first place.
Now it seems to read that 'we're going to rename you anyway, and leave the whole process of fixing it to you lot to sort out afterwards'.
To me it would make sense to allow the people who care about it to change in advance, so that there's only one piece of database jiggery-pokery being performed on their account, rather than two, one of which is by an automated script...
Then again, my understanding of database security and resilience may be on a par with Sony's -
I've technically got three level 50 Scrappers. (and two Brutes, three Tankers and a Stalker)
In reality I've got one and a couple of part timers.
My original toon, my hero main and the toon with the most paytime on it is my Katana/Regen scrapper. He was created the day before the EU game officially went live, as the servers were available early for those too impatient to wait.
I took him, partly solo, but mostly in the company of a group of friends from 1 to 50 over a period of about 3 months, 474 hours of playtime, to be exact.
I remember when you go to become a god of the battlefield with /regen, able to stand on the frontlines alongside any tanker.
Hell, I *was* a tanker. A very specialised one at any rate, on an old fashioned Hami-Raid. I was the Hami-Tank on Union's first successful Hami Raid, backed up by two Empaths, with perma-Hasten, Dull Pain and toggle Integration/Instant Healing. Oh, and Calling the Wolf slotted for range, recharge and taunt, IIRC.
The best thing about shelving a character for months at a time, especially a scrapper, is that you come back to it, and assuming your memories of how the play the character still work, you think 'Good god, how much damage can I dish out on this guy?!?'
So now I'm 75 months into the game, yet I still play my Katana/Regen scrapper. And I'm STILL using my Issue 5 build that I respecced into after the successful Hami Raid. I've changed the enhancement in the slots around, but the allocation of the slots is still as it was before ED was known.
If you value seeing well constructed, focused Scrapper builds, then for the love of god, don't view this build. What IO's are there are purely an afterthought. I dropped shiny things into slots I already had as something to do with the inf, and to get a vague idea of the invention system.

I play on Union.
After 75 months of playtime (got the badge a few days back), I still only have characters on Union, and I don't think I've ever created a toon on Defiant.
I don't think I'm going anywhere... -
I've got about 40bn in liquid inf spread around my alts...
Looks off by a significant amount to me. -
Quote:I guarantee that number's out by a huge amount, maybe 10^6, since I've got about 40bn just on my various alts.I think their "inf held by players" number is out by a few decimal places. Between my partner and I we have about 25B, and I'm sure there's a lot more than 56B total
So between just me, you and your partner we're past the amount in the graphic already -
Quote:"Ah yes, her," she said out loud in a Eureka-like moment. Dr. Colston knew a soldier of Arachnos, a Widow, named Mindspider.
Mindspider?
You mean the not at all Arachnos, or for that matter Widow freelancer called Mindspider, encountered in one of Efficiency Expert Pither's missions?
Or do you mean one of the Hampton Mindspiders? -
Quote:I find that I tend to run Incarnate Trials until I've got Judgement and Interface open, and 60-80% progress on Lore and Destiny, then I think 'Oh, bugger it' and burn threads and inf to get the last two slots open, since by that point I've usually (three toons so far) got enough stuff to make up a rare for the Lore and Destiny slots, so it's a case of 'so close to the incarnate shifts I can almost taste it'I've noticed one thing. I've developed a deep, deep aversion to spending inf to finance my Incarnate addiction.

I keep WASD for strafing and QE for turning, but never really use QE, as I use mouselook for heading.
I remap Tab to target nearest, and T and Y to target previous/next.
I came here from Planetside and single player games, so the standard FPS layout was what I knew and was comfortable with, so I never questioned it.
As to why other MMO's use QWES for strafing and AD for turning, maybe it's a holdover from older MMO's, but other than that little bit of speculation, I don't know. -
Quote:Wait a second...Plug the Psi hole.
That's right. Stone armor should have a good amount of Psi Res and Def thrown onto it. Just bury bits in each power. With crystals getting a big boost.
WHAT psi hole?
Using only SO's and a Steadfast res/def IO I got my Stone/fire scranker to about 44% Psi def.
Since I actually got round to putting a full build together for him, I've got 50% psi def.
That's more Psi mitigation than exists in ANY other tanker primary.
Drop into Granite and psi becomes a headache (pun not intentional), but that's just a tactical consideration of using Granite.
Minerals is pretty damn useful in and of itself in i20 anyway, since it includes Confuse protection, and having confuse protection in the prisoner escape section of the BAF is a Good Thing (tm).
If however, you want Psi protection adding to Granite, there's not a snowballs chance in hells boiler room of it happening. You want one power in the entire set to provide effective immunity to all damage types AND full mez protection?!?
Stone Armour != Granite Armour.
Oh, and as a side note, Granite is not necessarily you turning into a lump of stone, it's Granite Armour, and that name quite easily implies to me that somewhere inside all that Granite is a nice squishy human(oid/ish) brain for psi powers to grab hold of and twist... -
Quote:The other point is that One With the Shield and Strength of Will are nowhere near as potent a 'you can't hurt me, ner ner!' button as Unstoppable, Granite, Elude, Kuji in Retsu and for it's short duration, MoG.I love how you use SoW as an example when it still crashes for 50% of your end bar. In fact, every T9 (in sets that have them) other than Granite (as a toggle with nasty -dam and -rech) and MoG (as a 15 second "defensive build-up, while old MoG crashed up-front) has some sort of nasty end crash, which almost always turns off your toggles (except One with the Shield, which crashes for 50% end like SoW does). Crashes on defensive set T9s are by design, and the devs aren't going to stop doing them any time soon.
Tanker grade Unstoppable is +70% resist to all but psi, according to tomax.cohtitan.com which basically means that you can thumb your nose at anything that's not untyped or Psi.
Tanker grade Strength of Will is 25% S/L, 12.5% F/C/E/N/Tox/Psi. It's more comprehensive coverage, but far lower on the 'Oh, you were trying to hurt me, were you?' scale.
If you personally don't like Unstoppable's drawbacks, don't take it. That doesn't mean that other people don't like it for what it is, or can't use it to their own satisfaction.
But this thread's wandered far enough from the OP, the answer to which is - nope, you flat out cannot perma-Unstoppable.
