Quote:I've done it several times tankless, two Ill/Rads does work well as long as you coordinate PA, you need to make sure that the next set drops a few seconds prior to the previous set expiring so that they've had a chance to gain aggro. If you just drop the next as the previous vanishes Bad Things can happen... it takes a few seconds for the new PA to gain aggro.Yeah Im now pretty sure it was a combination of a mediocre Inv tank, a very drowsy empath
and a lack of understanding about LR apparent new AI ...
Anywho since my OP i have since completed the STF on the same toon ((lvl 47-48 ill/rad troller no IOs)) Our tank was actually a fire/fire!but we had 2x dark misma and 2x ill/rads so the debuffs made the first 4 missions a breeze
The finale went very very well we managed to separately pull all 4 AVs and dispatch nw ... Despite not having the star and being only a troller i ended up running the show with the whole thing fresh in my mind from the day before ... i suggested that with no dedicated healer the 2 ill/rads should tank LRand it worked GREAT! ... I had only SOs and was no where near Perma PA but the other ill/rad was close ... anyways we hovered over him and timed our PAs to overlap slightly so we didn't draw aggro ... a couple of mishaps saw us both drop once or twice but we never lost his attention and the team ripped apart the towers and we soon began the whomp on him
[A note to add is you mentioned about him not summoning bane spiders as often? He literally didn't spawn his help until 3 seconds before his death for us! o.O' they were spawning as the reward option was on the screen ... maybe a little bug? who knows anyway i did it and ironically from my OP without a tank in the end lol]
On the Bane summon he never spawned the whole time I was tanking him, something he used to do on occasion unless we anchored him with a debuff. His Pet Nuke goes off at around 20% HP and will continue to summon wave after wave until he dies.
Here's a little trick for dealing with repairmen and the pet nuke... if you have a Fire 'troller have them toss Bonfire on the tower, it'll KB and likely kill repairmen as they spawn. For LR, Bonfire sends his pets flying away as fast as he can summon them making them much less of an issue. Oh, I think LR has to be unheld in order to spawn, you probably got lucky with the purple triangles and they didn't kick in until late. -
Take it for what it's worth as the only WP character I've leveled is a Brute but I'd look for two things... max HP boosts which will effectively increase your regen and defense boosts.
I look at it kind of like a Regen scrapper... you already have a ton of regen out of the box... you'll gain more by adding layers to your protections. Your first layer being Defense... S/L is the most important type since it protects from the most attacks. More HP is always a good thing for a tanker, since it translates into more damage taken before you faceplant and more HP regenerated since your regen is a percentage of your HP... more HP total equals more HP regenerated per second.
I'd list Recharge bonuses as QoL additions rather than necessities since WP has no powers that benefit from recharge. It'll smooth out your attack chain and that's about it. Nice to have, but not at the expense of max HP and defense.
Again, this is based on my experience leveling a Fire/WP brute, not a tanker but the logic should apply equally well to either. -
If you're looking to make your tanker as tough as possible check out my soft cap guide; it's written from a secondary-neutral perspective so it applies to any Invuln tanker you want to toughen up.

Quote:This is the problem in a nutshell; since freespec's don't stack how would the Dev's give out one for both builds?Occasionally they have. The thing is we can only hold one freespec per toon. They have granted an immediate freespec on launch, then another a week after. Whether this will happen for i19 remains to be seen.
The only way I can think of is either staggered with one freespec when the issue drops and another a week or two later or if they have the tech in place (which they probably don't) give one freespec and one earned respec. Hmm, one thing they do have the tech for is to create a log in badge with a claimable respec attached... it'd work like veteran reward respecs.
Frankly though I doubt we'll get more than the traditional one freespec. -
Quote:Possibly not, but I doubt it would be worthwhile to devote the time putting that in so that the small percentage of players with multiple accounts can transfer. Come to think of it you'd still have the issue with PL sellers; just roll a new alt on the new 2nd account and pay to have it PL'd, then transfer the character to your main account. If there's no characters of value on the 2nd account you're not risking a lot allowing the nefarious PL seller access... other than letting them steal your CC info when you pay them that is.Does that argument really make sense for two game accounts that are both under the same master account though?
It really would be opening a can of worms that's probably best left closed, even though I would like to transfer a character to my 2nd account personally. There's just too much room for abuse. -
Well, I just finished an STF, the first I've tanked since GR hit and I did find that LR's AI has changed. Now he uses that channelgun end drain attack MUCH more often, and he uses it in melee... something he didn't do before. I went in with my normal insp loadout and got dropped three times; twice to end drain and once to stupidity by letting the purple drop while typing to the team.
I'd recommend tanking him now with a couple of big blues as well as purples and oranges; and some form of heal support is helpful. Once I figured out his new AI we didn't have problems; our Kin had Heal Other from the medicine pool and that plus Dull Pain were plenty. He's definitely more dangerous now than he used to be. I don't know if his AI changed with GR or with the last patch but he's certainly different now.
On the plus side he doesn't seem to summon Banes anymore until the Pet Nuke. I do begin to understand why the OP's tanker was having problems though, if he wasn't soft capped @ 75% while the blue tower was up then I'd bet he was getting end drained and that's why he was dropping.
Bottom line, with the AI change whether it's intentional or not Lord Recluse is considerably more dangerous now.
<edit>
Quote:I'd say this is a key datum here, after I took Stone Fist off auto and put Taunt on auto LR didn't use the Channelgun again until we finished the towers; and even then he didn't hit me with it in the minute or so it took to kill him... we did have a good team. We finished the TF in 1:35 or so; if we hadn't had some false starts with LR's new AI we'd have cut that by about 15 minutes or so, I'll take the blame for dropping the ball there.I don't usually see him use the Channelguns in melee either, but the key is NOT to attack him. The more you attack him, the more likely he is to use more of his powers. If you simply stand there using Taunt only, you are more likely to get the same power over and over at longer intervals and have a much better chance at surviving.
In this case, I'm thinking it's likely the tank was using attacks on LR, causing him to get attacked back more often, and probably drained of his Endurance and getting toasted rather quickly. -
Quote:I've had similar experiences, built right Invuln really is that good.Impressive. But some other builds can reach that level.
Ironclad, my Civil-War-themed Invulnerability Tanker, did exactly that. Surrounded by negative-energy-using Black Dwarfs (remember, Inv does not get especially good resistances to negative) and defense-debuffing Romans, he made his stand while the res of the team rezzed, wiped again, and hospitaled. When they returned, he was on his third or fourth recharging of Dull Pain and the team's brute sent a tell: "HOW are you STILL ALIVE???" -
Well, I just checked all my characters and my top (or would that be bottom?) is only 1,866 days offline; a level 2 PB on Freedom. My really old characters are all on Guardian and are either played occasionally or long since deleted.
There's a bunch in the 1000+ range, mostly on servers I don't play. Freedom is the king there with 9 characters all 1000 or more days offline. I've only a couple there that are less than 100 days.
With the exception of Guardian & Pinnacle characters elsewhere don't get played much. -
Quote:BaB got laid off? Last I'd heard he just quit taking PM's.Phantasm is actually way worse at surviving than imps now against tough single foes.
With imps the fire controller is usually standing back from them and the actual pc draws the agro because they outdamage each imp. The result is that the AV may never even take notice of the imps and attack them.
With phantasm the AV is agro'd onto your melee range PA and melee range decoy so phantasm ends up biting it nearly immediately due to aoe's.
It's persistent bugs like this that make me wish it had been one of the other lead devs on the layoff list as opposed to BaB's. -
This is kind of a way out thought, but do you have another keyboard to try? I had a similar issue one time where I'd get random results while typing... hitting a "d" would get me "df" or the like. It turned out to be a dirty keyboard that was sticking. I replaced it with another brown box Newegg $20 one and the problem went away.

Quote:It sure is in my experience. In fact, a SO'd Granite tanker is still tougher than my soft capped Invuln. Of course we're getting well into overkill areas here; there's really not much that can kill a Granite tanker.I'm not disputing your finding Stone (or any set) not to your taste, but really, in what way did ED affect Stone's survivability relatively more than other sets? Is it not still the king of "Hey, I'm still standing!" regardless of ED?
Here's an interesting data point, back in issue 7 when I was leveling my Stone/EM tanker I got curious about just how tough it was so I decided to find out. At level 40 I went to PI and found a group of level 50 Nemesis consisting of a Fake, Warhulk and 4 LT/Minions. I went Granite + Rooted, TP'd into the group and stood there with Mud Pots running. After about a minute I hit Earth's Embrace. About a minute later I TP'd back out again at about 20% HP. That was on pure SO's against a half dozen +10 Nemesis including two bosses. Obviously I wasn't going to ever do any damage to them, but they were unable to kill me.
Because Stone's so strong I don't look for survivability when I'm looking for an IO build, instead I look to overcome the recharge and mobility penalties. When the base performance is that high I find it's not worthwhile looking for still more. Yes, with IO's you could increase a Granite tank's durability by a considerable amount but why? I'd rather work on QoL bonuses rather than durability in that case. -
Yep, the way Phanty works now he's downright broken. I've been finding that I don't bother with him some of the time, particularly against nasty foes. He has all the negatives of Fire Imps without the benefits.
I soloed Requiem a few days ago and the entire fight I don't think Phanty lived longer than 20 seconds. After a while I just cast him shortly before PA were ready to cycle as an aggro monkey... lord knows he wasn't worth a damned any other way since he'd get maybe 2-3 attacks off before he'd run in and suicide on the AOE the AV was outputting.
Fortunately I wasn't relying on him that much with perma-PA and Spooky along with the Rad debuffs. It's still very irritating. -
Quote:No, there's no way to transfer a character from one account to another and very likely never will be as it would be a MASSIVE problem with the gold/PL sellers.Hi all.
Here's a question I think I know the answer to, but I'll ask to confirm.
Can I switch characters between 2 of my accounts? I don't have a 2nd account, but was thinking about it and I couldn't find anything on these forums or on ParagonWiki concernign that.
I'm guessing "no" - good guess? -
Quote:Interesting, I tanked him probably 30 times in issue 9 alone with my Inv/Stone and I didn't even know about the end drain attack until maybe issue 10 when I tried to hover tank him once and immediately was drained dry and landed at his feet with no endurance... not one of my smoothest maneuvershe's used it in melee range before...but I haven't tanked him with my Invul since the early STF days
.
-
I've never known him to use that end drain attack in melee... he sure will use it from range though. Stick close to him and you shouldn't have to worry about that at least.
-
I'd say your Inv tanker either had a bad build and his deficiencies were masked by buffs earlier or he just didn't know what he was doing. Yes, on occasion LR can drop an Inv (or for that matter even a Granite) tanker in 2 hits but it's a rare occurrence. Typically I tank LR UNASSISTED with my Inv/Stone tanker... I have an insp tray so I use it.
Going after the tower buffed LR I'll have my tray loaded with 10 medium purples, 5 large oranges and at least two large greens. I take medium instead of large purples because I'm at 45% def with LR in range and one medium is worth 25%, so it soft caps me while the blue tower's up. Since I don't need the extra of a large purple I don't waste them. I handle LR like so:
Once the courtyard is clear and the team's ready I eat two large oranges and one medium purple then jump into melee with LR and start taunting. Trying to hit him is an exercise in futility while the yellow tower's up so all I worry about is Taunt at this point. As soon as I have aggro the team starts in on the red tower and I draw LR back into the corner behind the green tower to keep him out of the way in case the flier respawns while we're killing him. I keep one orange active until the red tower dies and one purple active until the blue tower dies. I use two oranges for his alpha strike because that's the most dangerous time.
If LR gets a lucky hit on me I pop Dull Pain. If he knocks me down into the yellow again I pop a green. Once the red tower dies I can mostly relax and once the blue dies I'm home free.
I've personally tanked LR with a Stone/Fire and my Inv/Stone tanker; I've been on successful runs with every tanker primary except Dark (nothing against Dark, I've just never been on a run with a Dark tank). Now that my Shield/Fire tank's reached 46 I'm considering giving it a try with him.
I've also attempted to tank LR with a perma-PA Ill/Rad... unfortunately you'll have about 1-2 seconds of loose aggro when you respawn PA; this frequently leads to his discussing the matter with you directly, usually not a good thing. It used to be easier since Phanty would usually use his decoy and that could cover the gaps but since he now has this fetish with running into melee he rarely lives long enough to summon his decoy in the first place and NEVER lives long enough for him to recharge.
<edit>
Re-reading the OP I'm somewhat at a loss; was the tanker trying to tank LR right next to the rest of the team for some reason? With the buffs you're describing even a mediocre Inv build should have been up for the task. Did you have difficulty killing the Red tower? I had one run with that problem... we found that we'd KB'd a repairman down UNDERNEATH the tower and the bastage was sitting there happy as a clam healing the tower. A few AOE's finally solved that problem. -

Quote:The reason it sells for 30 million more is simply because there's so many people with way more money than they know what to do with. If you're sitting on multi-billions of inf you're probably not all that concerned about an extra 30 million on an IO. Heck, some of the marketeers are actively working to destroy inf by burning it up converting to prestige. There's several threads on this in the marketing forum.I already do tip missions for hero merits. I am looking for another way to make INF after my tips are done.
I am not a fan of flipping items or crafting and selling because it is causing unreasonable price inflation. For example, one recipe sells for 50 mil while the crafted IO sells for 80 mil. There is no reason other than greed for a 30 mil crafting charge. I may have to do it anyways...
Heck, I'm not quite in that area myself but frequently I'm perfectly willing to shell out a premium and avoid the hassle of crafting an IO. There's also occasions where I'm looking for something and the only one for sale is already crafted; unless it's a hugely expensive item I'm likely to just snatch it up and move on.
It's a convenience thing; if people weren't perfectly willing to pay the premium then things wouldn't sell for the amounts they do. -
750 million will EASILY get everything you need to soft cap and leave you most of the money for extras. At the time I wrote the soft cap guide in issue 13 the full set of IO's cost around 15-20 million. At today's prices you're probably looking in the general vicinity of 200 million unless you insist on max level Reactive Armor.
-
Quote:Or you could save up 2 A-Merits and buy a level 25 LOTG 7.5% recharge... last I looked those were over 100 million. You can get one every 4 days that way; you'll be "farming" your tips about 1 hour per day based on my experience with my BS/Shield scrapper.Perhaps the easiest thing to do is run tip missions at -1/x1 difficulty. Get a Hero Merit. Do the random roll. You'll get five rare recipes. Sell them on the market. Profit.
You should be able to do each tip mission in 5-10 minutes once you get to know them. Do five a day in 30-60 minutes, and every other day you'll earn a Hero merit.
I've been doing this with my 50 BS/Shield and my 50 Ill/Rad. Right now I'm just buying the recipes, crafting and putting them into base storage for some rebuilds once issue 19 hits. -
Your fastest option is simply to use the market... buy recipes that you can craft and sell for a profit or flip stuff (IE buy stuff cheap and sell high, lots of things tend to fluctuate pretty dramatically over a few hours).
For example, let's say you can buy a recipe for whatever for around a million and it'll cost, including salvage, 3 million to craft. Well, if the crafted IO sells for 10 million plus you've a moneymaker there. Just check what recipes are going for and what the crafted IO is going for. I'd suggest looking for something with a high turnover.
If you do want to farm you're right about a lack of AOE being problematic... set your difficulty to higher level mobs that you can still handle efficiently and leave your team size low. Don't forget that you'll probably make a lot more selling your drops on the market than from straight kills. -
Quote:WTH? How can he play all of em at the same time? Auto powers?
$15/month x 5 = 75... x 12 months = he's loaded.
NCSOFT must love him.
I don't know how it's done, the person in question is Blackberry Thorn, a regular on the Guardian boards. I know it involves having all 5 in windowed mode with 4 somewhat smaller and a 5th above.
I can't manage two at once myself... the only times I've dual boxed was basically to PL one of the accounts and just let it door sit. -
Quote:Nothing wrong with two accounts, lots of us have multiple accounts. I know of one person with I think 5 accounts who runs all 5 on a single machine as a one player team. All the accounts can be under the same Master NCSoft account and can share everything. In fact, if I look under my master account I see both my playable accounts as well as an old trial account I created back when they gave the SG prestige boost in order to pad my membership.I'm pretty sure there's no rule against having more than one account as long as you're not a GOLD PHARMER!, but in case I'm wrong... I'm asking this for a friend.
If you have two accounts, is there any reason you can't use the same e-mail address for both? Right now I... my friend... has to check two different e-mail boxes for information and it's annoying... to my friend. -
Quote:CoH is an OpenGL game, not DirectX so it doesn't use DirectX at all.I have a friend who wanted to play CoH during reactivation weekend but his graphics card burnt out, forcing him to use his old DirectX 9 card in the meantime.
I wanted to know if any of the ultra-mode graphics will work on DirectX 9 or whether they'd just all be locked out.
With that said Ultra Mode is an IMMENSE graphics hog... in an older card it'll need a really high end one to work at all. -
What are your intentions with the build? It looks to me like you're all over the place with bonuses and you're ending up with something that really doesn't accomplish a lot more than a straight SO build would do. IO bonuses can do remarkable things, but you need to have a goal in mind and build on that... individually each bonus is very small. It's only when you start to stack bonus on top of bonus that you see the extreme results people talk about with "IO'd" toons.
Your power selection order really needs work and you certainly need work on your slotting. Right now you're much less durable than you could be and your attack slotting is suspect as well. I'd recommend a rethink of what you want to accomplish.
If you're looking for durability without downsides check out my guides... the first is a basic primer for getting your critical powers in place by level 20 and the second is a secondary-neutral guide for increasing your durability. I didn't go into detail on other bonuses in my soft cap guide but I did leave room to incorporate whatever other additions you may want.
<edit>
You could see some significant durability improvement by simply changing your power selection and slotting even on plain SO's; as your build sits it kind of looks like a case of "this set looks cool" and "I like that set" without an overall goal you're building toward. Hey, I understand... if you've been away for a long time all this is a lot to absorb all at once. That's partly why I wrote my guide.
