I still talk to my team during big fights. After all the times it's gotten me killed, you think I would learn to shut up, but some things never change!
-
Agreed. I think the side-switching missions always sound awesome when I read them, but I really dislike that the only option is to switch, not to reaffirm your alignment.
-
Oh good, you're all the exact same. Without fail, every time (and I do mean every time) I try to set the Belt in the costume creator, I always check the Lower Body section first. I figure because it goes on my pants, that's where it would be. >.>
And I hoard Tier 3 insps like nobody's business for that really tough fight I just know is right around the corner. Then, to make sure I always know what insps I have and when I have enough to combine them, I organize them all by color and size, stacking them next to each other so they "match."
I never use a build creator. I always pick powers I think would be neat and I slot according to a concept in my head of what I think the set could do without ever actually running numbers on it.
I also still take teleport for conceptual reasons, even though I know full well there are less difficult travel powers to choose. -

Haha, this is great. Had some awesome laughs at of this, nice work!

There have been two things regarding Contacts, or rather the acquiring of new contacts that have been bothering me:
1. On Red-Side, anyone else notice the occassional messages you receive upon completing missions telling you how your deeds have garnered you enough fame to get a new contact from the Broker? Now, it's been a while, but the times I excitedly ran over to get my new contact, they had nothing to offer me. Is it still functioning this way? Or is this a misleading message, even a bug, that's been around for years as a result of some alternative means of gaining contacts from back in the early CoV beta?
2. We should get New Contact pop-ups for the Icon tailors. I figure when Icon was first introduced back in beginning, we probably didn't have the tech in place we do now that alerts you to unlocked contacts and such, but I think we should get one for the new costume missions at Icon. Far too often I get a character into their 20s, 30s, 40s and completely forget that I have a costume mission to take part in until however far along later, I decide to change costumes and realize I have some unclaimed slots. I think we should get a pop-up for Icon (and Facemaker!) when we hit those levels.
And that's my two things! -
Here's a good one:
"Ok, now I think you are TRYING to ditch me."

It's funny cause it's true. And one RIP officer says in a Tip mission:
"Go go go! We can do this! ... I think!" Made me giggle. -
Hmmm, alright sure! Let's toss a hat in the ring
Arc #475246, "Bringing a Lord to Power"
Arc ID: 475246
Keywords: Challenging, Custom Characters, Magic
Length: Very Long (5 missions)
First Published: 12/19/2010
Morality: Villainous
Level Range: 40-54
Enemy Groups: Circle of Thorns, PPD, Council, Two Custom Groups
Description: Blightlord is looking for aid in a new project. Do you have the skill necessary to get things done? -
I predict a statement about how the game is better than ever and will only continue to get better, and general sentiments that they are excited for what's coming up and it's going well so far in implementation.
Also, I predict it will be delivered by a dev of some sort.
To really make a risky prediction, I believe there will be promises of cake. -
While I've never personally liked or trusted the big Council ret-con (I still have trouble looking at it as a takeover), what's wrong with the Khan TF? Other than I don't ever remember finding out how Reichsman got broken out of cryogenic storage in the Zig. Or however it was he was locked up >.>
-
The only reason they have seperate Ouros (I believe) is because of the Tessarect and Twilight Son Ouro TFs, and because Tessarect offers a different mission to villains than she does to heroes in the Ouro intro arc. At least, that's the only real reason I can see for them not being merged.

Yeah, this change makes no sense to me. I understand there are some people who try to spam invites to their teams without asking, but I am a "victim" of this maybe once every two months. The inconvenience they have caused me in the last six years is waaaaaaaaay less than the inconvenience this change has presented me with just in the last two weeks.

Alrighty, starting the arc now and I'll have the review PM'ed to you
-
I have a similar issue as the OP with the exact same graphics card and drivers, only I usually get it when opening the Info tab. Also, I have an issue where sometimes the texturing on the character models will go all black and be replaced with other random images- enemies looking like Nuke power icons and such. It's a little frustrating to say the least.
-
Over the last few issues, we've seen some pretty awesome new bits of content as well as great dialogue- even dialogue revisions in certain missions and zones. So I thought I would create a thread where we could share some of our favorites. So far, this is one of my ultimate favorites to date:
From the last mission of the ITF:
Quote:How about the rest of you? I know you all have at least one!5th Column #2: "Do you really think this is going to work?"
5th Column #1: "Of course! I always think this is going to work. That's what makes me such a loyal citizen." -
Thank you for the awesome review. I'm not entirely sure what I can do about how hard Elitist is hitting. I don't want to scale him down to Boss level, but perhaps there is a power or two that I can remove from his attack chain to make a hit from him a little less devastating.
I was curious how other people would handle Blightlord. I'll definitely give his powers a looksie and make some changes to make the encounter a little more player-friendly. I had tried fighting him alone with a Fire Blaster (the one from the first mission) and a MA Scrapper (the wife mentioned) as well as Blightlord vs. Blightlord and had pretty reasonable success, but only because I knew exactly what to expect from him. Yes, they are all in fact characters that belong to me with the exception of the bosses inside the Elitist mission (those belong to friends of mine.) That makes uniting them in some form of theme a little difficult, other than that they all belong to the same supergroup. I think I did comment on them seeming hard to hold together in a clue you get for defeating one of them, but it's easily missed and doesn't do much to solve the issue.
And yes, this arc has gone through a lot of polish, and was originally a much larger story from before the system was even announced. It first got written up in this thread. It went through a lot of shrinking and editing and then just this past week a lot of reworking. When I wrote it, it was for friends who are very familiar with the characters, so I felt a story about going after the family would have been just another bit of the same. I did have them make a return later in the arc. If there had been more missions, they probably would have gotten a little more time to be involved. Perhaps in the future they'll show up again in my arcs with a bit more importance.
Again, thank you for the awesome review and the high rating! Very much appreciated ^_^ I'd be happy to take a look at any arcs of yours in return. -
*Cough*
Thought you all might like to remember this old bit of fun from way back when -
I like this idea to. Find or maybe even Search For. And no problem! I prefer giving detailed feedback as opposed to generalizations. Hope it helped!

That wasn't supposed to say disliked o.o Should have said really did like. Sorry about that, heh.
Yeah, my experience with Berle in the last mission was that he stopped following me as I ran into Blappy's room, I got Blappy down to the Betrayal marker, he betrayed, but I didn't have to fight him til I ran back to see what the fuss was. -
My review of:
"A Very Special Episode"- Arc 457506
Arc played using a Level 50 Fire/Ice/Fire Blaster with Bosses set to spawn as Bosses
Mission One:
The opening text is good. I think you capture the spirit of the Television contact pretty well (basing this off of the redside unlockable contact). Some of the formatting choices seem weird, but not an issue.
Going through the mission I couldn't find any real errors or issues. Berle seems to follow you around uselessly, though I found his abandoned and recovered text funny. I think I have to gist of what's going to happen over the course of the arc as well- we'll see if I'm right or wrong though. Not sure also how I feel about Percy being a Fake. I guess I was expecting a custom boss of some sort and it caught me by surprise.
When you exit the mission to the "Not another Nemesis Plot!!!" text, if the "I hear" is in reference to our character, usually these messages are written in the second person from my experience.
The text upon returning to the contact is good, and I particularly like the inclusion of the hero's name in it. On to mission two!
Mission Two:
Reading the opening text for this mission gives me another idea as to where this arc may be headed, again, we'll see. Into the mission!
The custom group that's taking from the normal game NPCs in here is neat. I think it's a nice blend of mobs that work pretty well together. The Injustice group was good as well, what little I've seen of them so far. I also like how Angel ran off, refusing to be a sidekick to yet another hero. At the end of the first mission, I was pretty confident I had been given the whole story and could see a direct line to the end. Now, I'm not so sure, it's a lot more interesting, though I do still hold some theories. I also wonder if maybe this mission would do better actually placed inside of the Pawn Shop map, rather than the warehouse. One of the ones that has the Safe section in the back perhaps? If it's available of course.
Again, on the return text I enjoy the direct nod to the character and, is that a musical theatre reference I spy? If it's intended, kudos ^_^ This text also continues me in my belief that you understand Television's style of dialogue well.
Mission Three:
I'm liking the little bits of added information we're getting with each of these contact dialogues and how them coming from an outside perspective changes our insider's perspective.
I'm liking the Injustice Legion more as well playing through this mission. And Sis Boom Ba's health milestone dialogue was really cute. Bright Angel was good support throughout the mission as well.
The return text here was fine, I have no real comment about it.
Mission Four:
Good opening text here. Fast paced, high-energy, good set up for a timed mission. In we go!
Walking in, I was a little disappointed to see "Defeat Blight Angel" up on the objectives. Even if it's not too surprising, it feels like a complete drop or give-away. Perhaps the objective could be given a slightly more ambiguous name? Or revealed after completing a different objective a little further into the mission? Anyway, moving on.
Wrong Number wasn't too tough. Might have even been a little easy, but we'll see how I feel about her when I get to the EB. Again, Berle likes to just follow me around. If he does fight, he hasn't bothered just yet.
Blappy doesn't look like a Children's Show character at all- though I get that part of it is her villain duds. Her fight wasn't too bad- but boy is Berle turning on you something that catches you off guard! I guess he can fight after all!
Blight Angel is probably my favorite part of this mission. I love her dialogue and her character, her description is neat and she looks awesome. I'm a bit of a sucker for that type of character though. The only thing I didn't like about the fight was that I was held for all of it- if it weren't for Defiance, this would have been a very annoying battle.
Wrap Up:
Overall, I like the arc. I think it's a cute story with some noteworthy characters and moments. I'm not sure if I fully understood how the first Nemesis mission fit into things. I think I got the idea, just not a solidified following. I felt for pretty much the whole arc that either Blappy or Angel were going to turn and it was just a matter of which one. I loved the clues that we kept finding lying around, but wonder if maybe there are too many of them, and if there can't be some more surprise that Angel has turned. Maybe it should be leaned into more heavily that Blappy is secretely not so good and the hints about Angel should be backed off of? I loved the surprises I did find in the arc, such as Berle betraying you and wouldn't mind seeing just one or two more.
You captured Television well, I think. If I had one thought on it, I would say that each contact text should either have some form of tie-in between the show on television and the upcoming mission, or that each one should display totally different genres of television (if you can do both of these altogether.) This thought occurred to me after seeing the news shows and then going into the money management show- they felt very similar in my mind as a genre. Just a thought.
I liked the arc very much and gave it a 4/5 and would be very interested to see more of your work. Nice job ^_^
This is my submission for the club arc pool:
Name: Bringing A Lord to Power
Arc ID: 475246
Level: 40-54
Morality: Villainous
Length: Very Long
Description: Blightlord has a task for you. Can you rise above and prove yourself in a City of Villains? -
-
Ungood, even. Are you a thought criminal?
-
Yeah, like Venture pointed out, Resistance-speak is based more on Clockwork Orange (though personally I find the Resistance a lot easier to understand.
-
1984's party language is called Newspeak. But the difference between the Resistance's vernacular and The Party Members of 1984 is that the point of Newspeak is to cut the language down to the barest bones so that free thought is impossible. Resistance speak is like a coded slang that is aiming for pretty much the exact opposite.
