  1. Thanks for the corrections, Sarrate. So that puts a +3 AV's resistance to most debuffs at about 91%? Ouch.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. I run a storm controller, and while extremely powerful against AV's, the massive -to hit isn't as useful as the -res and -def that it offers - in my experience. The idea that a scrapper or a tanker could run with their defensive toggles off is rather stupid and buried in hyperbole. The storm helps, but it doesn't win the game. I've run my stormer on an ITF stacked with 2 others, and when Rom finally did end up hitting me, he hit like a truck, and I went down. So please Johnny, please understand that hyperbole doesn't help your argument.

In fact, to the very people you are trying to convince, it makes you look like a fool who's never actually tanked hard content.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Didn't seem like hyperbole, seemed spot on to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Two storm controllers running hurricane (unslotted) will debuff Reich's tohit by a total of 9%. Slotted, that's about 14%. Defense buffs are far more effective in AV fights than tohit debuffs.

EDIT: Just for comparison, a /FF controller would bring about 29% defense to the table (slotted). Of course, then you'd miss out on storm's other benefits, such as Freezing Rain's tasty debuffs and the damage from Tornado and Lightning Storm. Decisions, decisions.
  3. Brimstone Bruce = Berserk Bruce (currently exists as a broot)
Ultionis = Talio (They actually mean about the same thing [vengeance and retribution, respectively]... but Ult is a hero, so I didn't think it'd make much sense for his villainous self's name to mean forgiveness)
Patronox = Crucionox (Night Guardian and Night Tormentor, respectively)
    Cortex Crusher = Cerebral Cleaver

    Thoughts of I15?

Yar, I hope I16 has a fair bit more. The last few issues have been kinda mini-issues, IMO. But I never really got into the MA, so YMMV.
  5. <QR>
It's a horrible thing, the way some people are able to dehumanize those who are different from them.

Thanks for the dose of perspective, and I'm so sorry.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
I had one hanging out at the costume changer DURING the raid, and one teammate, who was also a mentor, quit with five minutes to go.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately, that sorta thing is somewhat common. We had reports of someone that had gone to the movies while his character lay dead on the ship. Which pisses me right off, because I'm always wasting my rez on the dead afkers.

    The Devs hate weekends.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a slap to the face for those of us who enjoy playing on the weekends. The obvious weekday dev-favoritism is getting out of hand.

    Cat ears!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Almost everybody makes a catgirl at one point...

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you really look at the fine print, it's required in the EULA that you make at least one catgirl.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Damn, they're totally going ban my [censored] over this one, as I have no female characters, let alone a catgirl (before you ask, no, I don't have a catboi either).

    [/ QUOTE ]
No, they'll just alter your main into one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just imagined my namesake being turned into a catgirl...

It feels so horribly wrong, but I just can't stop laughing.

And what do you expect us, the players, to do to fix this?

That's all this section of the forums is. Players helping players.

Put in a support ticket with PlayNC.

On a related note, I've been online and playing for several hours now and haven't had any lag or mapserve issues. Considering my ISP is a wireless ISP that's a good session.

Perhaps the problems aren't ALL related to the game itself.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    You're a real jerk, man.

The lag issues have been here since hte big "server upgrade". That's actually when they started.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem is they haven't existed for everyone. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been mapserved in the last 4 years that wasn't caused by something on my end (or on mission 3 of the ITF, but that's a known server nightmare). The only lag I've ever really gotten was that mission, or a little rubberbanding when entering a zone (which is annoying). And that's with three different ISP's. That's why I think it's more complicated than just "There's something wrong with the servers."

EDIT: Wait, I do remember one other problem with lag, but that was a week on hotel wifi. My latency would go anywhere from 160ms to 12000ms. But that was on my laptop, and on a public wireless system, so I'm disinclined to blame the servers. Btw, playing with 12 seconds of lag is a new and exciting way to test your madd power queuing skillz.

Word of warning: make sure you grab the right build. I somehow managed to get build 7000 off of TechNet over the weekend, get everything installed and how I like it... and realized that build expires in 2 days. So, I get to do another fresh install to a 7100 build.

I'm just amazed there are people who haven't decided to put him on ignore yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you kidding? You can't pay for this kind of entertainment.

Or maybe I'm just too "salty," whatever that means. Yar, I'm a salty sea dog.
  12. Cross-dressing would be males wearing female clothes, or vice-versa. Since gender-specific costume pieces are not being ported to other genders, this will not be any different than it always has been. Your male costume slots will wear the clothing that has always been available to male characters, and your female costume slots will wear the clothing that has always been available to female characters. As has been explained numerous times already.

What's the rating of that story where the wolf dresses up like a woman to chat with little girls?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The same rating as those episodes of Looney Tunes where Bugs crossdresses to fool Elmer Fudd.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Darn, you beat me to it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    A serious question.

To the OP: The Maury Povich show is basically Jerry Springer Lite. Worthless garbage that nobody should ever use to prove a point, other than that people like to watch worthless garbage.

    Warwolfs?

    [ QUOTE ]
WOW that was a blood bath lol. ok now for the Vamp guys for the slayer badge

    [/ QUOTE ]

Those you can get in about the same area, but be warned:

They mostly come out at night. Mostly.

Well, okay, they only come out at night.
  15. Yep, had the same problem with the Sister Psyche task force a while back. It's fixed on Test from what I see, and will be on live when I15 hits.
  16. Brimstone Bruce

    Movies!

Public Enemies I'll have to see... it was filmed in a bunch of small towns around my area. Drove past them filming a few times.

I want to see 9 as well... that looks pretty awesome.
I'll probably see the GIJOE movie, but I'll probably regret it as much as seeing Transformers a couple days ago.
Oh, and definitely Harry Potter. Never read the books, but love the movies.
  17. Brimstone Bruce

    Leveling sucks.

    [ QUOTE ]
Is it just me, or do most of the people who complain 1-22 is a slog have a reg date of 2005 or earlier? Not really trying to dismiss, but a lot of what I'm seeing tells me people have done the low-level game a thousand times and gotten used to the high-level game. I'm not sure I could say this is specifically BAD - things get boring eventually - but I still think the game ought to be designed to be friendly to new people, not give veterans an easy out of everything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yar, 45-month vet here, so I suppose I fit into that classification. I agree, the low-level game should be friendly for new players. But I wouldn't be opposed to alternate starting areas that are specifically more vet-friendly (no idea how this would work) or being able to skip levels as a vet reward.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm a 57 month veteran. I signed up for this game in May of 2004, and though I skipped a couple of months when my game time cards expired, I've been here pretty much the whole way through. I don't find the low game boring. Not in the slightest. Not hero-side, not villain-side. In fact, the 1-10 game is perhaps the most fun time of a hero's career, where enemies are easy, levelling is fast and a character is still strange and unfamiliar.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My experiences tend to be different. The fast leveling is kinda fun, but other than that, I don't particularly enjoy the lack of powers or slots. I also like to fight more challenging enemies, but that's neither rewarding nor fun in the lower levels when your choices are Vahz (slooooooows) or CoT (spectrals).

    [ QUOTE ]
Up until about 20 or 30, even underperforming characters can do reasonably well. It isn't until the upper 30s and the 40s when levelling slows down a CRAWL, enemies become unfair and unreasonable peer pressure criticises your performance at every turn that the game truly becomes a boring grind. I suppose 47-50 might be considered good times again, because you have pretty much everything you're going to have and there isn't much incentive to look at levelling up as a priority.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is my favorite range. Yes, the leveling is slower, but I don't think it's too slow. You have your necessary tools, and you can start pushing your character's limits. I suppose I'm not as subject to the pressures of others... I mostly team with others in a private global channel, many of which love making concept characters. I tend to be one of the min/maxers of the group, so it's pretty rare when a build or power choice of mine gets scrutinized. My characters get the far majority of their playing time once they've reached level 50. There is nothing more fun for me than playing a character at the pinnacle of their effectiveness and seeing what kind of crazy *bleep* I can do with them.

    [ QUOTE ]
I happen to enjoy the entire levelling process, from beginning to end. How a character changes and grows in that time is half the fun of the game, and most of the point to having progress to begin with. I can never agree with or support a change that gives people an "out" of any part of it, not unless it's a game-wide change that alters the underlying structure. I'm sorry, I just can't go with that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I enjoy a significant portion of the levels in the game, but the early game I just get tired of. Our opinions differ on changing the early game for vets, and that's okay.

    Leveling sucks.

Only applies to the travel power pools.

" * Access to the following Power Pools at level 6, and can access Tier 1, 2, or 3 powers
    o Flight
    o Superspeed
    o Teleport
    o Superleap

For the 60 month veteran reward, players receive the City Traveler badge, an additional Character Slot, 5 Reward Merits, and will be able to access the Flight, Superspeed, Teleport, and Superleap Power Pools at level 6 without having to take a tier 1 or 2 power in that pool."
  19. Brimstone Bruce

    Leveling sucks.

    <QR>
IMO, the game starts at 22. Up until that point, it's hard to get any sort of feel for how good my characters are going to be in different situations. I think this applies double for team-oriented tankers. Also, pre-stamina, pre-SO's just sucks for kill speed and endurance management outside of a few fringe cases (shakes fist at Quick Recovery).

From the mid-20's on, that's when I really find this game enjoyable.
  20. <QR to tha OP>
I'd just like to point out that how powerful your system is may have nothing to do with crashing in your case. If you're having issues with crashes, post a CoH Helper and Hijackthis report in the tech forums and let the gurus help. It's usually something related to background processes or drivers.

    Ambush issues

I can't recall how the ambushes on Rommie are supposed to work... is it one at 3/4 health and one at 1/4? I know one we were on the other day we took his health down so fast it's possible the ambushes arrived at the same time because they were only triggered a few seconds apart. And yeah, that was rough... two ambushes, plus the fluffies spawning like crazy. Mass Confusion only does so much!
  22. Brimstone Bruce

    Shield question.

Grant Cover and OWtS are slated for my last two power picks (currently lvl34). Grant Cover for the Defense Debuff Resistance, and OWtS for a preemptive "Oh [censored]" button on high-end TF runs.
  23. And hey, who's to say that when they went through and changed the power's colors to point to a database entry rather than something static, that they didn't do the same for other aspects of power animations for future expansion?

"Cautiously optimistic" would perfectly describe my feelings toward further power customization.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
I'm very peeved that the tailor changes that some of us wanted since day 1 (changing body type and height) end up in a paid booster.

What's next? A jet pack costume item for the Natural Booster? Fox tails or animated tails in the Mutant Booster?

    grumble grumble grumble

And yes I read Castle's post about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yar, I'm inclined to agree. The other boosters up until now have included powers that were nice little bonuses, not things that the community has been asking for for ages. While it's nice they stuck to stuff that doesn't have a major impact on combat effectiveness, this particular item should've been included as part of a free issue, IMO.

Oh well, I'll still buy it, like I've bought every other add-on, because the thought of not having everything this game has to offer makes my brain itch. xD
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Why don't you guys also add the EU game servers to ours and collapse a few of OUR dead servers. You have many to choose from, that's for sure.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Read the many, many, many threads about this exact topic. I think UberGuy even has a stock response for this suggestion.
