I tried searching but the damn search engine sux!
Can someone give me some defense numbers? I'm trying to find some alternatives to slotting for defense...
Thx
[/ QUOTE ]
I disagree on the topic of the search engine, it is fairly robust while not being overly full of options. It allows you to quickly target a specific forum, search by title or title+body, set a date range with newer vs. older functionality AND lets you pre-format the results in a variety of ways.
I would say though that looking for those numbers may be difficult if you don't know what phrases to use to get the results you want. I did a search for "+stealth +defense +bonus" filtering out the results within the last week to avoid turning up this thread and found the number in the top results in the scrapper forum. Of course if you don't realize the power pools function differently per class then even that is useless....
So yes, Red Tomax City of Data is simply a better place to look for things like this than these forums at all. More of a problem with the data and forum than the search per se. The search can't turn up info that isn't there! You can also check out the power in game now too if that helps. -

I would prefer to use the Detective outside the police station
[/ QUOTE ]
While I don't know why they gave multiple contacts for newspaper or police radio missions, this has to be one of the most obscure targets for a "quality of life" request.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was going to ignore this post but the 40 percent taunt enhancement caught me. I disagree with the level of obscurity assigned to this by you. I've personally noticed it, and I wasn't even looking for it, when scanners were first added. Although in my case I ignored it more for reasons of the low frequency with which I run into it and lack of testing to see if it was planned or arbitrary. Speaking of "arbit..."
[ QUOTE ]
It does seem ludicrous that the Police Radio can tell you that the detective wants to talk, but not actually connect you with the detective in question.
On the other hand, the villain's Newspaper is also unable to actually connect you with the Broker, so that's 'fair'.
Neither Detectives, nor Brokers give out their cell-numbers - annoying, but fair.
All Brokers (that I've run across) are outdoors and do not require you to run a maze inside the building, to reach - like Detectives. I concede that this is an annoyance and a QoL issue.
Be Well!
Fireheart
[/ QUOTE ]
Phew, thank god the arbiter of what is annoying and QoL issues allowed it through despite the above protests of obscurity. (I'd have thought something obscure would be something not in plain sight for everyone to see, such as a detective standing outside or inside, perhaps the inside one is obscure!)
I'm all for anything that gives players more control over what they want to do so... /em thumbsup -

Fun question:
In Hurricane, how does it work?
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh, as far as "fun" goes I don't find it very "fun" in Hurricane. (I suppose I should take the opportunity to save some time and effort and call it 'Cane though like Frag 'Nade up there.) Should be the same as other toggles, info here. -

The rez power on the other hand many people slot for both recharge and end reduc. If you have 3 extra slots to spare having the rez 4 slotted with 2 50 common IO's each of recharge and cost reducer is the ideal, but by no means necessary.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd like to reiterate that, imo, it's definitely "by no means necessary." While this can be left up to a case by cases basis, I don't think I've ran into situation where anything beyond a single Recharge was useful. If someone on your team is dying faster than that can recharge they might actually benefit from having to wait a bit between rezes and contemplate wtf they are doing. Don't forget, you are having to stop and eat up time and team resources to rez them. Folks can carry wakies and combine to make more wakies too...
I do not, however, deny that the above slotting could be, for some specific target, definitely "ideal." -

I finally hit the One Billion influence mark on my main. Here's the obligatory screenshot.
On June 23, 2008, I started with just under 55M influence. I played very casually and applied the specific techniques mentioned in these forums. I never farmed merits or tickets (I've only made two merit rolls and one bronze ticket roll) and my highest level character is SL38.
If I can do it, anyone can.
[/ QUOTE ]
Neat! I haven't heard or seen anyone use SL or Security Level in a long time, congrats! -
Sounds like fun, but after 4 pages I started randomly clicking around and searching for the word "market" trying to figure out why this is in the The Market forum. GL to you though!

With over 20 new faces that's coming with i15, it'd be scary if there was a bug that caused the older faces to melt. Unless you like molten faces, that is

Well you could still end up scared, even if you like molten faces IF you are easily scared by bugs in software when introducing new content. "I love me some molten faces, but this software bugginess is TERRIFYING!" -
I'm hardly impressed that he wants to spin semantics with the issue being 'about the Fifth Anniversary" but not released somewhere during the Fifth Anniversary and then later ranting about people speculating on release dates. If they don't want to be seen as feeding into random speculation then they should take care to specify what they are talking about and proof-read interviews for format and clarity. Simple human nature for the masses to take a statement about a upcoming event centered around an anniversary placed next to a line about the date of said anniversary and figure they are related. They are, after all, about similar topics.
Disclaimer: I don't give a flying rats patoot when the issue comes out, what it's specifically about or whether people speculate, rampantly or not, about either of these topics.

Except Posi did not.

The 12/1/2008 IGN interview from Issue 13's release included a small teaser from Positron:
Issue 15 will be centered around the Fifth... Anniversary of City of Heroes.
This was followed by a note from IGN stating the date of the anniversary. This caused speculation from the player-base that the issue would be released at that time.
However, GhostRaptor followed up on 3/5/2009, saying:
Issue 15 does not have a release date, or even a release window, yet. Nothing has been officially stated. The rumour floating around that Issue 15 will coincide with the 5th anniversary is nothing more than that: a rumour. Most likely started by a very wild piece of speculation based on a comment made in an interview that had nothing to do with release dates at all.

Tier 4 Teleport power to me should have Assemble the Team added to the mix. Very useful and very popular.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not gonna happen, no matter how useful it would be. It would invalidate the 42 month Veteran Reward.
Maybe an emergency exit power, that sends the player and those around him back to the beginning of a mission map?
[/ QUOTE ]
This reasoning behind adding an "Assemble the Team"-like power invaliding a Vet Reward doesn't make sense. The power already existed in game as a Temp Power from a Safeguard/Mayhem. Vets get access to permanent Nemesis Staves and Blackwands, which were once only obtained as Temp Powers as well.
If anything, making that an option for the Teleport Pool gives a Vet access to the same power twice, while eliminated the "need" to pick it up at all for some. It won't invalidate anything unless the recharge on it is really short, which I don't believe it would be. But at the same time, I don't see that type of power being added as a chooseable power to begin with.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank god someone said this. To say it invalidated the veteran reward is, imo, foolishness in the utmost extreme. Not to mention, those of us with longer perceptions of the game time line know that the power was already in the game and available to players long ago and removed from gravity control for the most dubious of "balance" reasons and replaced with wormhole. Did the sands of mu temp power invalidate shadow maul? Did shadow maul invalidate the veteran reward. Did the veteran reward invalidate the sands of mu temp and shadow maul?!?! THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW HOW MANY THINGS HAVE BEEN INVALIDATED, THE HORROR. -

The Devs never intended to have Rikti Comm Officers act the way they did, it was a complete oversight on their part, when the "Special" versions were included in the MA. That was their fault, as they should have realized the differences in the Spawn of that Critter.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not true. Before alot of you started playing, Rikti Comm Officers gave normal xp but the Rikti Portals and minions also gave xp. The portals gave ridiculous amounts. People were farming the Comm Officers for the Portals. When they nerfed it, they increased the XP of Comm Officers.
If I recall, the other NPC that got nerfed around the same time were the BP Death Shamans.
[/ QUOTE ]
I dont recall the summoned rikti giving xp but i know the portals gave large xp up untill very recently when they took all XP from portals but gave comms rikti LT xp but minion HPs. Reason being in the RWZ people were running around tagging the portals and running off, after a while they despawned and the free xp would flow.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you had been around longer you would know that they indeed used to give XP for the portal and for the summoned rikti too, just add it as a precursor to what you just talked about. -
[ QUOTE ]
Looks to me like you couldn't just 'roll up' a meow without considerable forethought.
Which takes the "I didn't know it could be used for farming!!!" argument, wads it up, and tosses it in the oubliette. Exploit city, this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh horsepucky, unless you mean specifically the exact mission described above. One of the first things I did in AE, for my own amusement and because I do things like this in any editor I get my hands on, is pick a map and fill it the [censored] out with all kinds of allies, protect objects, ambushes, patrols, just maxed it out like crazy and when I play that map currently it's insane XP and probably looks like a "farm" or whatever may or may not have been defined above.
This thread is blowing my mind. Someone asks what "meow is" one person says "i'll PM you" and then we get like 5 explanations of it anyway and 2 pages later people are still wondering what it is and asking to also be PM'ed when it's been explained perfectly well already.
Then we have a comparison of tools, AE to Hammer and some dingbat thinks it's a comparison of AE to Murder.
Folks that blame the player over the AE don't realize that this self same argument has been going on in the form of gun control and 2nd amendment rights for YEARS now. If the "real world" can't come to an agreement about "guns don't kill people / people kill people" how are you going to suddenly come to a consensus in a video game with very little in the way of "serious" consequences.
Video game and software developers have had the BS luxury of pushing out faulty product and patching it live for years now. They need to realize if they take advantage of this tactic they must also eat the [censored] that comes from it. If you don't want people doing some specific thing with the AE tool then don't publish it until you are satisfied that it can not be used to do that specific thing. If you are forthcoming with what you do and don't want it to be used for and consistent in you design and implementation then you'll have a lot less smokescreen for the end users to rant through and a solid base for you to proselytize from about what you intend for it to do/not do.
Okay that was a bit angry of a post so I'll leave you with this quote from The Office.
"Pam: When a child gets behind the wheel of a car and runs into a tree, You don't blame the child. He didn't know any better. You blame the 30-year-old woman who got in the passenger seat and said, "Drive, kid. I trust you." -
...and because I hate when folks never come back and give thread closure... Hey that server reboot fixed it, thanks everyone!

Getting inf. is like tasting the rainbow and picking the skittles up off the ground after,.. you just need to know where the rainbows are. It's not that hard to get inf., heck I farmed myself up 2 panacea procs yesterday while doing housework at the same time, 800 mill about 30 minutes of actual effort and a bit of luck.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is one hell of a thing to know exactly where to farm and get for 400,000,000 inf a pop... and you only need a "bit" of luck eh? Dang. -
[ QUOTE ]
Obviously the inf system we started with was broken- before the market, level 50's had far more inf than they could spend.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't want to derail a decent thread with what is essentially a quibble so feel free to ignore this post, BUT...
There is a large assumption right here that the inf system, pre-market, was "broken." You could say that it seems broken in retrospect now that there is a market, but I don't necessarily agree that it was straight up broken before there was a market. Before the first tweak to drops and inf you made enough money selling drops and such to the proper stores to refresh your DO's and SO's all the way to 50. I know, because I ran my first toon to 50, a blaster, back in the old days and I remember being impressed that I had, what felt to be, the "right" amount of money without making it worthless on the way to 50. Even when you factor in that a blaster has to buy the more expensive "power 10" SO's and such in larger quantity than most other toons.
One day I happened to look at that same blaster's ID card and saw she had somewhere around 200,000,000 inf. I know I had played her quite a bit and I surely didn't look at it and go, "zomg that's not right!" It's like real life, money comes to money. The only complaint you got in the old days was from folks that had more than one 50, and that complaint was basically, "Wow, you don't have a lot of money pre-25 or so but you can just twink over some bucks from your 50 and everything is fine." This statement only was said, obviously, by people that had a 50 already and therefore only noticed they were "a bit" short on cash the second time through and only around the time you are trading up DO's fro SO's for the first time on a particular toon.
Pre-market INF was a lot more RP too, having a bunch of INF just meant you were really famous and influential! I think the only things that were actually annoying about INF back then were more mechanical. Things like only being able to trade 9,999 inf per trade and all that. -
Heh, just jumped in to say the same thing. Came through only on Protector global too
(I have my wife's account logged in next to me watching Protector while I mess around on Freedom) -
Too me, it's fascinating that it only happens on Protector!
A little more info too, all my above mentioned guinea pig test accounts get the error, only on protector. They can search and run MA / AE missions on Freedom just fine.
My wife had a mission up that she was working on and published from Protector. I can play that mission on Freedom just fine. More interesting though, I can play that mission on Proctector just fine as well! I can zone into it and fight, etc. I can't search and find it on Protector but I can play it if the proper pieces were in place before this bug arrived. :-D -
Just ran into this issue about 15 minutes ago. Had a few folks complain in broadcast about the MA / AE being "down." Went to check and it gets stuck on the "searching" screen and never brings up anything. Tried some alts, secondary account, wife's account, sister's account, friend's account, all of them get the same thing.
Though, on Freedom, it's working just fine.
Edit: If you have an old search up on the character it will still be there when you first hit the console but any subsequent searches will result in the same blank search, hero or villainside. -
Question. From what I see in this thread, a significant portion of the board quit playing their EM/ Brute(s) when this animation change went into effect (including me and he was pretty much becoming my all time fave). Does this make the change good or bad or is it unrelated? Imagine, for example, tomorrow they stumble across a perfect formula to make the game balanced in all respects. Implementing this formula makes the game non-fun for a (large?) number of people. Should they do it?
Original ET under it's original implementation and animation was this awesome thing, a Holy Grail if you will, that me and my friends and SG mates admired and often spoke of in a certain reverent tone, if you will. "You just kinda shove your hand straight through their f'n head and kill 'em." said my SG leader. The new animation is ooh and ahh and such but... just look at this thread for what it's done to a lot of folks toons. -
Ack, incorrect use of bully. "Bully for bushlad" is a cheer for "bushlad."
Weapon redraw is hyper annoying IMO, anything to reduce or remove it = better for me. -
Heh, but in doing that post you learned that quoting an ignored user lets you see what they wrote....

The cheap and dirty solution of course would just be to auto-unlock all the patron pools when you hit 40 blueside. In other words, just pretend they are APPs. Not a solution that respects "concept" but then again neither is allowing people to switch back and forth multiple times, yet apparently that's going to be allowed nonetheless.

You are correct, no character in any story has ever changed sides more than one time. -

If people weren't so deluded into thinking a healer is needed to survive in this game, then we wouldn't have this problem. A good stormy, with or without O2 Boost, far outperforms an average empath.

Sounds like Empathy needs a buff? (or storm a nerf....)
Unless the gap from average to good is supposed to be "far outperforms" wide. -

Wow. What a sense of entitlement. His accounts were inactive for almost 5 months and he expects NCSoft to punish the other members of the SG indefinitely on the hopes that he might one day reactivate his accounts.
Customer Support - What? You say your locked out of your base because the SG leader's account is inactive and rent's due? Too bad. We don't care about our PAYING customers.

Nobody is impressed that you are acting like a jerk in this thread. Yes, people should be more responsible, no, piling it on top of their current misfortune is NOT the best way to get this message across. My experience is, it's better to help them fix the current problem THEN give them advice on how to prevent it in the future. IE: Feed the starving man so he doesn't die while trying to teach him how to fish.
Glad to hear the OP's issue is likely fixed soon enough. -

A good example, though this was awhile ago, was the idea that defeating an AV earned you an SO. The KHTF had 10 AVs so you could get 10 SOs. This was a risk versus reward issue. Then the KHTF was changed so that only defeating 10 AVs got you the SO. I know, single origin enhancements aren't a big deal now but this was before Issue 9 I believe. Tis was a violation of the risk versus reward philosophy as the risk hand not changed, but the reward did.
[/ QUOTE ]
Err, yes the reward changed, but that doesn't mean it violated the risk:reward ratio. The devs would argue that it brought it in line with the risk:reward ratio.
[/ QUOTE ]
AV's drop SO's, why don't these AV's drop SO's?

You know, the constant acerbic, insulting spew about the developers is really tiring and dull.

If you feel a post is out of line, use the report post button at the bottom of every post. Devs burned their get out of jail cards long ago and have only a skeleton crew of auto-defending fanboys left.
