My WM/SD dinged 48 yesterday. While on a boss farm, he had a corruptor exclaim that he was AWESOME!
Awesome, without using Patron pools, but with OWtS going. WM/SD is good.
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely. With the WM tweaks it's really hard to beat out the native set attacks with anything from the pools, patron or otherwise! I have OWtS in my build too, mostly for situations where oddball issues of endurance or recharge penalties or high accuracy enemies (overlapping Quartz etc.) -

Its the staggered series of different rewards that draws you in, I reckon. Badge progress, recipe drops, salvage drops, coupled with the small psychological buzzes like beating the mission boss or taking on multiple groups at once.
I first became aware of this pattern playing Diablo II - you were always ten minutes from the next levelup or the next waypoint or felt like something really cool might drop. That complicated pattern of rewards is much more enticing than one big drop very infrequently, and used to keep me up till the small hours.
In CoH these days its similar - each character I have will have a number of goals of different types - badges, IO sets, level up to get a cool power or finish a set, some marketeering goal maybe so they can afford a particular item. Just enough complexity so you can sometimes level up or get a badge by surprise because your mind was on another goal.
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely hear you on the Diablo II style incremental rewards enticement. I believe some research was even done suggesting the small, repeated, release of endorphins made it even more addictive than it would seem on the surface. -
Meh, I think folks tend to "misunderstimate" the effect of "small groups of elitists on forums, etc." on the general population. I see it as a trickle down, slippery slope of an avalanche. I'm generally in the minority on this opinion although it seems to bear weight in a very offhand, armchair quarterbacking kind of way.
The dissemination of info, at all, must have SOME effect. I still have a few friends on my rapidly dwindling global list that don't read forums at all yet they seem to know all the usual hacks and farms and such. HOW DO DEY KNOW!?!? -
Yeah, sucks since Merits lets you pick the level with the slider. =/
-
Nah, the problem appears to be that you can't have different kinds of things spawn on or near each other anymore. I had an early room with a couple of destructible objects with ambushes guarding an ally rescue to "make you work for it" on the ally but now they can't spawn on or near each other and seems to just throw the spawns out willy nilly around the map when you do so. :/
I assume this fixes some farming thing where objects all spawned in one location for blaster AOEs or some crap.... -
Setting locations for allies, bosses, glowies etc. to front/middle/back doesn't seem to have any effect after today's patch. Is this intended?
Kind of ruins the flow of my story... -
Fully agree with Dersk. The set rapidly becomes AoE centric in it's later levels and you can kill EB's and such just fine with Pulverize and Clobber as your only ST attacks.

I'm quite aware of how GREAT my life is compared to, say, a KING a few hundred years ago.
[/ QUOTE ]
Plus, compared to that king, plenty of people in this thread are super modest and non-materialistic money worshipers! Plenty, or None? YOU BE THE JUDGE!
Okay, unfair, this IS The Market forum.
Players who didn't have money "back in the day" were just newbs that didn't sell drops to the correct stores. Your FIRST toon was a little poor pre-30's but after that I recall VERY vividly making enough to easily re-slot SO's constantly. I used to street sweep in Founders Falls selling drops to the stores and could easily SO out with green SO's constantly.
The devs DID tweak the drop rates and sale values once and that did make it a bit harder but after you had that first 50 all you had to do was twink a lousy 100,000 to 1,000,000 over and that character was set for life.
What I like about the market is now it lets you move to a new server and not have to go through that growing pain. Too bad I already went through it on every server before it existed. -
Totally agree with Rigel here. (Not to mention if you go to that link you can click on the Rules of Conduct and "the agreement" and you won't find the world parody at all.
)
Just write your parody and if someone complains, fix it.
Also, there was a terrible attempt at defining parody above. If you want a quick easy example of parody, try googling up Mad magazine or grab one at the local newstand. -

Sturgeon effect

Whoa, that's an incredibly rarefied phrase to bust out! In case anyone is wondering, this is the only place I could find it discussed out side of Theodore Sturgeon's wiki entry. (Where it is not called by that name either...)
Cheers! -

7 hours of mind numbing boredom
3 accounts at $15 each
15 pvp drops for around 2 bil
If you have the patience, time to waste and real money to blow farming pvp ios to make fake game money I say you earned every cent of that 2 bil.
You also earned the right to my sympathy
[/ QUOTE ]
It isnt boring if you are actually in it to accomplish things other than getting drops. If you read my OP... SNIP

No you weren't, from your OP.

This time I decided to see how many I could get so I kept going right back in the arena as soon as I was done.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not that I care one way or another in this tête à tête but I easily recalled that line as I read through the thread.
My take, if you enjoyed yourself, then... time well spent. -
I'm assuming that's 200 million + WW/BM fees.
-
Another way to store it is to sell it and hang on to the inf.

Granting a bonus point for being ebil enough to be docked a point by an ebil goat!

Actually, how much would people pay for the right to choose the name that Smurphy would go by under the new forum system?
-Johnny
[/ QUOTE ]
What exactly did you think the first post was asking?
[/ QUOTE ]
I thought the OP was selling the rights to the name SMurphy. You know, so we could take it for ourselves if we paid...
I honestly did though, I was amazed that nobody else read it that way for a full page +. -

Thats just my point, their not rewritting code for character models or building textures. My comment was directed toward the power customization. My comparison using an FPS, was that the FPS in said comment was pretty diversed, far more diversed than DOOM. And it only took four programmers. I didn't say just ANYONE can program, but rather that those with years of experience can do it quite easily. Apparently I offended you and Starsman.
The fact is, no one on this board (red names excluded) has developed an MMO, so we can understand the premise of it being "hard", but what you fail to acknowledge, is that most if not all MMO devs have years of experience and can handle programming. What YOU deem as hard, isn't necessarily hard for others. I cant just pick up a rig and all of a sudden develop an MMO with zero overhead. Well I could but it would be City of Stickman5000. My point being, don't get all flustered in nerd rage and understand that somethings aren't that hard to PROFESSIONALS.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's
They're
Diverse
Also, I've worked on developing an MMO. Age of Conan to be specific. Not that they listened to a word we had to say, over here in the states, about how crap the game was. Sometimes (lol, sometimes) good developing takes a back seat to Politics. -

Yes, END reduction on the attacks you use the most is very effective. Also keep in mind, if you use the attack a lot, it's a significant source of damage. Based on the numbers you listed (and since accuracy is already covered), I'd want to increase the END reduction to over 60% and get that recharge as high as possible.
I have one tank with a bunch of attacks slotted with 4 Kinetic Combat and 2 Pounding Slugfest (8% regen for 2 pieces). Assuming those Kinetics are already slotted, Pounding Slugfest wouldn't be the best way to go. If you can add 2 slots, Mako's Bite would be good: damage/recharge and accuracy/endurance/recharge. Starting from scratch, I would have gone with Pounding Slugfest and use different pieces from Kinetic Combat.
As for procs, the regular ones are kind of shabby. The purple ones are quite good: 33% chance for additional moderate damage. I'm not a big fan of slotting purple procs by themselves because I prefer to slot full sets.
Three Membranes would be great in Rage. Each will give 20% accuracy buff and 33% recharge so you'll hit ED on both effects.
[/ QUOTE ]
Accuracy 20% = aroo?
Edit: Aha, To-Hit buff, not Accuracy, duh. -
Can't you go to the in game options, key binding, click something random to get into "set button mode" then hit the tilt button to see what it calls it?

I know it doesn't NEED a team, but you can't affect huge groups of enemies when you're solo.

Try hazzard zones. That's where I take my Plant/TA/Fire when there isn't much teaming going on.

Or AE missions with plenty of ambushes etc.

Ive never rolled a Trick Arrow Controller, or even considered rolling one, because its probably the hardest set to come up with a concept for.
Or to put it another way, the most visually obtrusive secondary.
Rad Emission, for example, looks like you're, well, doing something. Could be light control, could be magical, or probablity control or whatever. The glowing effects could be no more real than the way your head glows different colours when you experience a moment of Inspiration.
The same can be said for Sonic Resonance or Kinetics.
But Trick Arrow you're unquestionably pulling out a bow and firing off an arrow with a gadget on the end. And never firing a normal pointy arrow.
I've always found that a bit hard to reconcile - if you can control the very earth or flame, or gravity, why are you carrying some gimmicks-on-a-stick around?
I have seen a few good bio's: Like a stage magician's assistant with Illusion/TA powers, but they're few and far between.
[/ QUOTE ]
Illusion/TA actually is fairly easy to come up with a story for. I wanted a combination of an entertainer (Illusion) with something for Bow and Arrow . . .
So my character became the official entertainer for the French Foreign Legion, named "Beau Jester" (Some of you youngsters may have never heard of "Beau Geste" . . . read a book or two!)
[/ QUOTE ]
Read a book or two... in Britain you mean! -
Meh, 4 aoes at 40 targets vs. 1 Ae at 16? Plus I have to take some kind of crap ranged attack or immob or something to get the aoe.... color me unimpressed.

To get around and kill things within the shard?
Well, that's rather vague honestly. Someone with Teleport or at the very least Fly (Fly may be better because of the ludicrous distances you have to cross, and teleport might not be able to handle it despite it being faster, though Teleport has Recall which anyone else in the shard with you will love you for), not a defense-based character due to the Observers having ridiculously accurate attacks, some form of crowd control would help a lot... Fire or Cold damage is all that really bypasses their resistances... I'd have to say Fire/something scrapper. Fire/Something that isn't Shield, SR, or Invul.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is a bit vague, yuh. I'd say a Fire or Ice blaster would probably not be horribly off either, or a controller, though it would almost certainly be a lot trickier.
Though if you're just looking for someone to TF run, then it really doesn't matter all that much (though the comments about travel powers is probably the most significant bit).
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely on the Ice Blaster. Have an Ice/Eng blaster that leveled from 40-50 in FBZ back in I2 or I3. Traveled the whole shard with superspeed and superjump VERY fast once you know how to use the geysers in combination with those powers. Teleport works fine out there too, Fly is kinda slow though IMO.
Ice/Eng you can 2 shot just about everything with the ice blasts and drop hard targets easily with Total Focus. -

Also - color changing is coming *before* Going Rogue, as in the next issue (Issue 16).
Going Rogue is *not* Issue 16, per Positron. (Linky).
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. Going Rogue is *not* an issue, it is an expansion. So Going rogue would come in between issues whether it be between i15 and 16 or i16 and 17 or further down the line..

Technically, don't all issues come between other issues?
