Quote:Get enough recharge for Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals -> RepeatEver since joining CoH, I have wanted to play (and get to 50) a Dual Blade scrapper. I just made one... he is DB/INV. If anyone has build suggestions im open to them... If you have builds please post them.
Thank you.
Then build for all the defense you can!
Then build for additional recharge (to get Dull Pain up more often) with maybe a few (if you want to go this way) +PSI Resist bonuses thrown in!
Good to go! -
Quote:Well the immortal lines also has a way of saying "sure. kill my character! She can comeback!" which fits in well with CoH style RP, as people want to kill kill kill, during those fights a lot of times...with characters that would never hold back the killing blow or the fury would just be to much.I actually thought about this for a long time because most of my characters I play tend to be immortal, because it makes the stagnant world in which games take place easier to explain when my character hasn't aged in the last six years, and to a point they deal greatly with immortality and it's downsides.
My namesake is around 2500 years old born in northren Europe, traveled through ancient Russia/Mid-Asia to China for the Three Kingdom Era and that is much of his character. For comparison I would put him as close to Moon Knight or Taskmaster. Immortality leaves a lot of time to perfect the art of combat and such. Now that I think about it he has a tinge of Sentry in him for the idea of restraining ones self for fear of hurting the ones you love....Really he is a lot of things and I don't think I can pin him to one stereotype.
The character I am focusing on now, Pyrogenic Gore, is totally the troubled wack job along the lines of Deadpool. I don't play him over the top because I feel like it is funny, I do it because he is "Promethean man" given immortality in the form of a fire elemental infused within him. He deals with immortality by ignoring reality. Being alive and outliving everyone you care about makes you less prone to attaching to people and makes you into a smart *** jerk who has a joke for every occasion. But inside you are a pretty screwed up guy. So yeah, I think Deadpool is really an apt comparison for the character and the Troubled Weirdo that is so common in these days.
Immortality tends to make it so that common characteristic can be playered out. -
I really don't think it's losing that's the problem, that a few people seem to be making it out to be.
At one point, my main/namesake was a WP/EM Tanker (rerolled many times over). As that WP/EM Tanker, about the only time I ever won an RP fight, was if it was an RPvP fight. I won a few text fights, but lost most of them (even to ones I as a player thought my toon shouldn't have) purely for the reason that all I ever saw at the time was "You won't lose in this text fight, therefore you're a godmodder" sooo...I just pretty much always let my toon lose.
Save the hassle.
Now in a one on one PvP match, this was never the case, and in a two on one PvP match I almost always survived, unless the duo was specifically setup to beat me, and then only if I didn't back off for 5 seconds.
Was it an optimal build? Well for PvE yes (or pretty close to anyways...I'm sure it could of been better).
After the changes, I didn't get the same feeling in a PvP zone that I did in a PvE zone. Why? Because there are different rules.
Now all that said. Let's look at it from the RP perspective. What's a common thing to happen in the comic book genre?
Why one on one fights of course!
Guess what? Doesn't matter how good the PvPer, some builds just suck for PvP, and get out matched by a lot of other builds.
Regen scrappers? In a one on one fight, if they're not winning, they're tying if the player has a bit of ability, and just a few of the right power picks, and that's just with Generic IOs.
Now, I don't think a lot of the RPers out there are against their toon losing a fight (the good ones anyways), but do you honestly think, they think, that their hero, would lose every fight?
That's just the heroes.
My take on villains is a bit different (from what I've seen). As most who RP the villains, don't want their villains to lose...ever. Of course, forgetting, that really in the end, the villain always loses in such stories in the genre (few exceptions, yes...but I doubt CoX will ever favor the villains winning scenario).
And that could possibly be why more people prefere playing the heroes. In the end, they know the villain has to lose.
Now, you can want more RPvP fights, but untill it gets simplified into 1 build between PvE and PvP, I don't think it will get as far with RPers.
And will never be the main way for any fights, because, frankly, even before i13, some builds just suck in PvP, and people want to play those sets, i13+ just makes it more so. -
End Drainer w/ DMG and Team Support?
Elec/Elec Brute with Leadership toggles!
Build for some +Defense with IOs/Powers and you're good to go! -

It's called Oro TFs! Though is the old Posi TF even considered a TF now? I wouldn't think so, with it's merits being reduced to that of a story arc.
-
While I'm okay with TFs being setup to be started solo, I can't say I'm for any of the AVs being reduced to EB status in said TFs/SFs.
You want to run it solo, fine, but know that yes there is an AV, and yes, you will have to beat said AV to complete the TF.
Incarnate system seems to be setup for lots of teaming, I'm fine with this. If someone figures out how to solo it all, good for them.
Most of the content is soloable, however. So I wouldn't say the game is setup up with a bias towards teaming. -
I don't know...being a spandex wearing crime-fighter never seemed sterotypical in Paragon
In fact, I thought it seemed to be more of the minority.
But, from a comic book point of view, I try to make all mine look the part you'd likely see in a superhero comic book. Thusly, spandex! All willing to fight the good fight, and never back down. -
Quote:Well, if I'm not mistaken, they shortened the title of the book to "Let Me In" when translanted to english. So calling the american version of the film "Let Me In" was probably a given. Thanks everybody for all of the EXCELLENT spoiler alerts. I haven't seen "LET ME IN" but I did see "LET THE RIGHT ONE IN". Had a big impact on me, definitely a great film in my book, and speaking of books, I'll definitely have to read that one.
As far as "LET ME IN" goes, from the bits that I have read here (thankfully, no spoilers) I'm going to see it as well. At first I thought NO WAY, just another lame american remake. I even read somewhere that they shortened the title so it would "appeal to more people, the other was too long.", and I thought "JEEZE, they're making this movie for morons! Title too long...).
But it seems that most folks in here, those that have seen the original AND those that haven't, seem to have positive opinions and that's good enough for me.
Thanks again everyone! -
Quote:Agreed. I was just stating it could be all terrible and not as nice as others have said. Or how others have speculated in the postive rather than the negative.Of course it could also mean that. My point (SilverAgeFan's point, actually) is that being laid off actually encompasses more than just one set of circumstances, and that - although it's human nature to do so - we shouldn't automatically speculate that the worst case scenario is what happened when we have no first-hand knowledge. That's all.
-
Quote:Though it should be noted, that sometimes, it means exactly that. It's not like a lot of companies like to give their employees notice of lay offs, as that tends to drive work down.Quite a few people in this thread that don't understand business structure and assume that "laid off" equates to "suddenly handed your pink slip by your evil boss".
At least, my experience in the job market has said, no employer has ever given a two weeks notice. -
Quote:While I've seen it, doesn't mean it's EVERYONE who does it.So you are telling me that you have never seen someone recruiting for a LRSF/STF, say asking for "Damage" and turning away stalkers?
Never? What server do you play on, I gotta take note for the next free transfer week.
I've ran ITFs, STFs, LGTFs, ect...ect with less than "optimal" teams. It does happen. Possibly a bit more often on the Master of runs.
Doesn't mean those less than desired combos don't get invited.
Though for ITFs, I have to wonder...is it a level 35 PB that's being turned away for a level 50 Blaster? From what you've seen are they turning down what might be considered less than desirable combos due to level? -
I think it depends on the toon. For example, my WP Scrappers and my WP Tanker, were able to slot up Health for additional Regen and did so, increasing their survival by quite a bit.
On a blaster, well, I see the benefit, it's just not as good in the feel of the game, when I could be using those slots elsewhere. -

Quote:Click some glowies, defeat big bad, no escorting, no defeat all! But then, the tickets you get wouldn't be much.So...I like AE. Have a few arcs here and there. Something I've been contemplating but may or may not do is an arc that is explicitly meant to be Stalker friendly. What would everyone here suggest?

[Edit: A good story is a given I figure] -
Quote:I think this is the silly part. Let's take a build (whether it was good or not before) and concept that was fun, and change their main/concept just to fit changes in the system? The complaints about the new system are moot at this point, it's been almost two years since i13 was launched people have had that long to prepare new builds and try pvping again. In a game known for it's quick leveling it's a joke for anyone to complain they don't have the build to pvp or their characters concept dosen't fit. Roll a new toon if you want to pvp and get a different concept. Yes pvp has changed, get over it.
You know, some people have had their mains since the beginning, and don't want to change it because things change.

Quote:I can swear there was a post somewhere pointing out that a lot of the Control sets have very little in the way that is effected by Domination.Containment was developed -after- the Illusion Control set came out. And it does benefit from the bonus, since your pets dish out double damage to held/sleeping/stunned/immobed targets. Further, Overpower was added in still later.
However, as it stands now illusion controllers have 3 powers which would benefit from Domination (Flash, Blind, Deceive) which would kind of suck.
However a power rework could make up the difference by increasing the damage of their pets, or lowering their recharge timers. Or even granting Phantom Army Punch-Voke.
Straight Port from Controller to Dominator: Bad idea.
Slight modification and port from Controller to Dominator: Good idea.
-Rachel- -
Quote:I don't see the set needing reworked in any way for Doms.*Proliferated* it may be a bad idea.
*Reworked* it would be just fine.
Problem is that reworking a set is almost as much work as just coming up with a brand new one.
It may not benefit as much from Domination as other sets, but it will have a few powers that do, or other tricks to not feel the need for it.
if I made an Illusion Control/Fire Assault Dom, I may get Domination less of the time, or not as quickly built up as others, but I will get it, and I have PA to cover me while I don't.
And seeing as how Perma Dom is usually sought after, as is perma PA, going for Perma PA would lead to Perma Domination...which means, one you had Domination, good to go with pets who tank for your dom!
Hmmm...wonder if that's why they don't do it. >_> eh, I have no idea why they havent. -
Quote:There was confusion on the original annoucement, in that it sounded like you still had to use up a power slot to get access to the fitness powers. Is it just me... Or has some of the wording on the announcement page changed since this thread cropped up?
Radmind's copy-paste from the page.
The current overview page.
So no it's looking like every just gets the whole set unlocked at level 2, slottable at will. Instead of being able to choose them out of order into your power-picks...
Or am I somehow off base on this?
-Rachel-
With the new post, it sounds like you get the all at level 2, and can slot them by choice.
I think some are hoping they can choose whether or not they unlock the inherent powers, so they can decide if they take swift/hurdle, as I can't picture anyone actually turning down the freebies of Health/Stamina even on builds that don't currently have them. -
Another reason people may be against it, is some of those who RPvP in arena, seem to turn off the temp power usage (and may even say no inspiration usage).
Now, while I've been okay with the no inspiration usage. I know I hate it when I have no access to my toons Ninja run, because the other person turns off temp power usage in the arena (mind you this is with me not minding the losing part, and go into zones to PvP with strictly PvE oriented builds...that said, I've never had zone pvp be IC at all). -
Quote:Well, froma genre standpoint, most villains while they may get a beatdown on the hero, are usually handed it to them soon after. I doubt many villains want to RP that. They want to RP being good enough never to be caught or beat (which is more likely how a villain oriented comic would go, though in the end, I doubt they'd get away with to much...again...in the genre which includes a lot of other characters. In a seperate universe style story, this can easily change).I do wish there were more RPvP events, as I enjoy both quite a bit.
DJ Shecky from The CAPE radio held (still holds?) monthly RPvP events that were a blast. Lots of people would show up, party, and throw down. No one cared about winning, losing, or how their builds measured up. I brought my PB to the first event, which is a rarity since you never see khelds in the zones. The idea was to have fun, and from what I saw the majority of people did.
I think a lot of the reluctance to RPvP comes from mindset. People do put a lot of time into their characters and become quite attatched. They don't want to enter a PvP situation and see their beloved characters beaten.
Yeah, we'll see what if storylines through time travel, but in the end, you know part of the story is stopping them then, then returning and thusly never allowing it to happen, or stopping it from happening to begin with.
So, from an RP standpoint, they may not want to see their very PvP-unfriendly villain, get beat and tossed into jail often. After so many "escapes from jails" it would seem a bit stupid.
After all, some of the great villains in comics, stay in prison for awhile before breaking out. Not captured and then broken out a few minutes later. And being beaten but somehow always managing to get away isn't very much better.
No one wants to be the Shocker.
And taking it to PvP might make one feel like that inept hero/villain that comic readers wonder why they're still around.
And why should the other player take it to a PvP match, when the other player isn't willing to show of their strength and backup their IC boasting with matches against AVs (you know the one's who RP the signature characters as weak and easily beat, and say it's public knowledge they took them on single handedly).
Though mind you, RP is the easier way to just go about it for a lot of RPers, as both PvP and making that toon that backs up those RP statements require builds and enhancement usage the player may not care for, and thusly, they'd rather stick to RPing it out only.
And really and RPvP match that stays IC (and I've done this quite a few times inthe past...not in a long while however)...that the player knows they can't win, might upset them. -
