I'm confused.
How exactly would one get into influence debt to begin with? -
Quote:WP isn't exactly the funnest set to play defensvely. Like SR it's toggle and go. they both suffer from this.My vote also goes to Willpower. I love my SS/WP Brute, but as far as defensive sets go I'd much, much rather be playing something else. I've got friends that swear by it... even some that put it on all or most of their melee characters. IT BLOWS MY MIND.
And then also Kinetics. While I do love a good Kinetics character, people that lose their friggin' minds about this set push me away from it... you know, the types of people who firmly believe that they'll die if they don't get SB or if a Kin isn't on their regular ITF or something. It's very, very useful, but holy geez.
WP however is an AWESOME defensive set, when built for it, that you can survive a lot!
However, WP and SR lack the fun of the other sets clickies.
Stalker WP for example is more active (and more fun because of it) due to having Reconstruction over RTTC. -
Quote:You don't HAVE to use the combos.
Yes. SR is also boring in that regard. I forgot to mention it! It's partially why I stopped playing my Dual Blades/SR Brute. She was nearly unkillabled. But dear gawd, so boring! It was worse with Dual Blades you had to press the attacks in the -exact- same sequence -every- time. I could literally write a script that would take care of playing her to full efficiency.
As for Empathy, yes. That's what I meant. When people invite Empathy and Pain to team because they're looking for a "healer", it just pains me. And it's so incredibly common, even among CoH's veteran players. It's all your fault, WoW!
And in a max DPS build, you wouldn't even use the combo (mind you that's a lot of RCH).
But still, using the combos to get the max dps, is no different than someone using an optimal DPS chain formax damage. -
Quote:God modders will always be lame jackholes regardless of if they are level 1 or 100.
Why let them ruin other peoples fun for fear of contempt from the peanut kingdom of slash-e-walllean?
As long as people are not trying to deus ex everything in RP, they can have whatever the hell back story they want for their $15 a month, and if they act like a jackhole that's when you call in reinforcements from the kingdom of slashignore.
Personally speaking I am far more concerned about the over abundant population of "RP'ers" who don't actually roleplay in game and after first introductions proceed to spam you with OOC tells about how great and amazing they are. Seriously, I don't care how detailed your virtueverse page is or if you have written a 50,000 word story in the RP forums if you are not going to interact with other players in character in game then you are not a Roleplayer... you're a fanfic writer with a really crappy illustrator and poor social skills.
Well might be a difference between those who RP with certain people, like their coalition, and not so much on the TFs that they're repeating for the 100th+ time.
I know that's the category I fall into. How many time do I want to RP the revelation that Hero One is alive as a Rikti?
Also, how does one RP with a Vampire: the Masquerade, vampire in CoH, when they can't even do it right?
And other such things like that.
I wouldn't expect everyone to RP on a mission, just for reasons like that.
1: Ha! I'm a psychotic maniac who should be brought into justice, but you cant touch me!
2: I'm someone who should be trying to stop you, but I can't, because you'll never allow it, and we really wouldnt be teaming ICly together, but we're RPers!
3: Ha! I'm not a hero at all. I'm a Half-Blood Elf Princess from 3rd Edition D&D!
4: I'm Naruto! *Pzzzzzt* Hey what the hell happened?! Why'd I get genericed?
5: I'm Batman and haha *Pzzzzt* Hey! It happened to me too!
6: I'm a nasty supervillain who's comehere for badges! Why am I helping you all fight crime now? Hey, I'm friends with him on the otherside!
7: What? You RP badges as IC things?
8: What of it? I RP every bit of game mechanics as IC!
...and thusly, there's the team of RPers! Let's make it mesh in RP! \o/

Hmmm...you think with the release of the CGI Yogi Bear movie, that this year we can get the Yogi Bear Christmas Special?
*crosses fingers*

Quote:I was not expecting him to die!Blows Bay outta the water. And, even though I grew up on the G1 series, I find I like Starscream's voice *alot* more here than the original. And of course, Prime's VO at the end gave me chills. Was I the only one caught off guard by Cliffjumper?
Though zombie Cliffjumper was pretty awesome! -

Willpower.
I personally have 2 Willpower characters, both Scrappers. I like the set in terms of stats and numbers and everything. But come on. The entire set looks so boring. xD
Archery.
Like Super Strength, I just don't like it when one or two powers define an entire set. Archery is almost in the same boat with Rain of Arrows.
Empathy and Pain Domination (A.K.A. H3a1z0rx)
Buffs and DeBuffs are almost always more effective than "Heals". Enough said!
Well, WP really isn't much different than SR under those circumstances.
Really, both the sets are, toggle and go sets. With Brutes/Tankers making out better with WP than Scrappers, and imo Stalkers have a bit more active version (with Reconstruction) and even easier to softcap than the Scrapper/Brute version.
Archery, I see the appeal, the animation just BOOOORE me.
Empathy and Pain are more than just heal sets though, but I see you're reason for saying they're over hyped, when people think they MUST have one on the team to be effective. -
I wish they'd leave Optimus Primes faceplate on.
Could do without Raff.
And why...why...does Bumblebee not speak?
Also, Arcee gotta be my favorite.
-
lol...couldn't stop laughing. It's only made me want to know how it's really going to end now.

Quote:The difference here, is between a lvl 2 PC that is the godly type right out the door, and someone using a lvl 2 as an NPC for a story.See, here's the thing. Say you had an SGmate who was great to RP with and always came up with awesome plots. One day they come up with a plot involving a god or godlike figure. So in the course of trying to figure out what to do next your character goes "okay, maybe we could talk to this god and try to make a deal". And the other player goes "okay" and logs in a level 2 alt with Veteran wings and the Thunderhead aura.
Would you immediately go, "No way, I refuse to believe a god would be level 2, go PL this character to 50 and get them some Incarnate slots and then we'll talk"?
Conversely, I wouldn't RP with a character who is a perfectly normal human being who just happens to have really good informers, if this is used as a tool to intimidate me (like, say, "I know all your weaknesses, I know where you live, I know all your family members, I could ruin your life or have you killed with a single text.")
For me, it's not so much about the discrepancy between the story they're trying to sell me and their ingame stats, it's more about whether they're interested in a good story versus just posturing. -
Quote:A team of 8 Scrappers have beaten both the Apex TF and TIn Mage TF, with no temp powers (both in under an hours time). So now that there's a new TF that people are telling me is too difficult and only specific ATs and powersets will be able to beat it, well, let's just say I'm not too worried.
Edit: For reference, here's the lineup on my team that completed Apex and Tin Mage on Saturday:
Fire/Stone Tank
Inv/SS Tank
MA/SR Scrapper
Traps/DP Defender
Strom/Elec Defender
Mind/FF Controller
Ill/Rad Controller
Warshade
So whoevers saying it requires specific team makeup is being silly.
-
Quote:What's silly is you don't realize there is timne lapse between when you defeated them before, and when you defeated them now.Striving to overcome things is great. As long as what those things are is suitable to the challenge required. The entire seven member Justice League striving to overcome the Penguin is a little pathetic on the League's part.
We've fought Battle Maiden, Bobcat and Neuron before. We've fought Clockwork before. Hell, they've been soloed before. Them automagically becoming four levels higher than us and in many ways more powerful than the two most powerful guys on primal Earth, for incredibly dubious reasons, isn't cool.
I've taken multiple direct hits from Lord Recluse, a demigod, when he was hooked up to a freaking god machine, but Boobcat's claws two shot me because she got upset?
BULL.
There's little teamwork in Tin Mage beyond "spam heals on tank" and "drag Director 11 into a corner" and "everyone run away from death patches".
None of that feels like a super hero battle from comics and animation to me. It feels like really artificial and contrived mechanics trying to ape WoW and other MMOs and I don't like them one bit.
This kind of change is crap IMO and represents everything I want the game to distance itself from; namely tired MMO conventions, hokey mechanics and demonic spiders.
Go to hell, Tin Mage and Apex. You and all you represent.
There's enough "challenging team content" in the game that almost nobody wants to do already. The Shadow Shard TFs for starters. I don't like that resources were wasted developing those and the new TFs when it's obvious the majority of players prefer stuff like the ITF and the LGTF.
That is an incredibly idiotic notion.
.
Did you solo those AVs as AVs before, or did you take them on as EBs? Or did you need a team to take them down?
Why do you think you can grow in power over all this time, but your enemies can't? -
I got all the costume boosters and even the emote booster, however, they did have some of the older boosters half off on the 29th.
So the question is, did they seel enough of those at lower cost to be seen as more people would by them.
Or did they do better selling at their normal price, then much much MUCH later, get a few more for those who wouldnt have bought them before. -
The haracter slot on getting a someone to 50 seems a bit out there, but the rest of the suggestions seem pretty good imo

But it's to easy to get a character to 50, they'd lose money on paying for it. -
Eh, I just burned multiple respec. You could of used 2 respecs to get 20 of them off, as they gave two free respecs.
-
o.O
I took those toggles at the same time (if not earlier) and have not run into these problem!
Yes, now I have less down time for not attacking, due to have that extra attack, but it's a total of like 2 extra powers before level 20, when most got Stamina.
How exactly are you having problems? Because you didnt take Swift/Health, and instead took attacks, that have Stamina helping you out?
Slot those ENDRED TOs/DOs that drop -

Quote:I've run IC TFs, and it does add more time. Even more, if you really slow down to RP.I've been on a speed LGTF once, and killmost TFs. I liked the reward/time ratio...but that's not why I play, in fact, the speed LG was about as boring to me as gathering in other games.
I'd love to try a IC SF sometime, but I think it would take MUCH longer than I'm used to.
They can be fun, but I find I don't care to RP them as often as I run them. More so on something like the LGTF, inwhich people are saying "OMG is that Hero One?!" -
One also has to remember, no one is actually an incarnate yet. They're working towards that step in the (at the end of the) story arc, not becoming one.
-
I got into a discussion, and I came to one conclusion...it's a no win situation, no matter which way you go with it.
On the path to incarnate VS those who arent. On the path would be more powerful than those not on it, but in RP land, one has to give and take and play it fair so both sides are equal.
Then you run into the level 5 "But I'm a god! I just haven't gotten to that story arc" or "But I'm just that good, but I've only just gotten onto the scene"
As for how I'm playing it...I always saw my main, not as an incarnate per se, but rather someone who can play on that field and give them a run for the money. where they raise an eyebrow and go, "She shouldn't beable to do this!" then possibly still lose, or pull out the win. -
Quote:I think Dark is underplayed in AV matches, only because players don't use HT to it's fullest.Don't get me wrong, I think Rad is a very good set, I'm always happy to see one on my team however my experience is that I see Rad being elevated above both Dark and Cold in player estimation. Overall I think all three sets are pretty equal in power (with Dark lagging a bit behind the other two in AV fights).
Rad is more toggle based while the other two have patches. There are pros and cons to both approaches although personally I prefer patches.
Many times I've seen Dark Miasma users, not use HT at all, saving it for rez's.
I've even seen a Dark or two not take HT, thinking it couldn't help them solo, even though that's a large mag 2 stun. -
There's something to be said for all the combos...
First off, do you even want to tank? If you want to tank, you're better off with a tank. Taunt beats Confront on tanking (though a SHield Scrapper holds aggro rather well).
Yes, yes, I know, people have tanked missions with just their aura and punchvoke, on tankers, but I've never seen one keep high level threats attention with just those two powers.
Shield is easy to softcap (for tankers even easier), but there's some things to be said about Fire Armor's Burn and Fiery Embrace for even more yummy damage numbers.
And judging by some Pylon numbers in the Scrapper thread, I'm wondering if Fire Armor won't come out ahead of Shield for damage. :O Still to early to tell of course, but I don't know...looks to be close either way! -
Quote:I don't know if I'd agree.While I respect for opinion, I'd have to disagree.
For all the awesome it can do, rad is, if anything, underrated. It's usually overshadowed by Dark Miasma (and Cold Domination to a lesser extent) while being a far, far superior set.
Having played Radiation Emission to 50 twice, and while it is an awesome set, in steamroller teams of today, it's not as team friendly, per se, as people kill the target that's been toggled debuffed.
Oh it's great on teams for those hard targets, no doubt there, but for normal missions, it requires teammates that pay attention.
That said, fire/kin troller is my pick. Oh it's an awesome set, that I've seen do awesome things, but this is limited to a few players, and most Fire/Kins aren't as good as these other players have been.
Ie...it was the players who made Fire/Kin awesome, not just the combo itself. -
