Well, I think the new ones lack dedication, to help get them to icon status.
Also, some of the newer ones tend to be on the gritty side way to much, which doesn't help them get to the iconic stage.
Spawn, I think could of made it to icon status if Todd McFarlane kept with it more. It's still going, so there's always that chance. The movie probably didn't help any.
Witchblade and The Darkness could as well, if they pushed it a bit.
Wildstorm (The studio) characters had that chance, but it's like they were just abandoned.
People say all these things about creator owned rights, but I think that really only comes down to the ones that ARE iconic now. And it took the publishing of Marvel and DC to get them there.
If they were left in the hands of just the creators back in the day, none of the icons would be icons now imo.
It feels like the new comics are more about getting that quick dollar, and less about trying to get them to be equal (iconic) to the classics (Superman, Spider-Man, Batman...ect). -
Quote:Well, my economics teacher did say that shock value sells. If I saw that bio "in the wild," I'd probably interpret it as a fairly shallow metacommentary on the MMO genre.
I like it when people riff on the game universe in their bios; the ones that make me think about some aspect of the IP that I'd never thought about before are usually the most interesting ones, even if they aren't quite 'canon' or whatever. It's not as though something is somehow taken away from your story just because someone else wrote a contradictory one. Comic book continuity, QED.
My biggest issue with it is that it's an easy, played-out concept. The existential dilemma is territory well covered and there's not much you can do with it in 1024 characters. The autism thing feels like it's being done for shock value. -
Quote:I might argue having every purple your AT can use, on more than 5 toons is more of a sign of a possibly bad build.I was casual. Now I am not.
I think it is easier to separate the "uber-gamer" or "power-gamer" from the mere "harcore" gamer than to determine what 'casual' is.
If you own every purple your AT can use, on more than 5 toons; you are uber...
If you have not only had over a billion, but you routinely keep over a billion, on hand, on more than 5 toons, you are uber...
Other distinctions-
Hardcore gamers design builds that solo +4/x8
Uber-gamers design builds for soloing MoXTF/SFs
Harcore gamers fully utilize Mids and don't need any guidance making the ultimate AT build.
Uber-gamers don't need Mids; "It's all in the ol' noggin."
Purples are awesome, no doubt, but to have all the purple sets you can use is generally not the best way to go about the build.
Casual players can want and have the IO builds. For a casual player it would just be something that takes longer to get.
Those who say "I don't spend time on IO builds, because I'm just a casual player" while they may in fact be casual, are just lazy/have no interrest in learning about them.
I'd say the deffinition of a Casual player will vary from player to player. -
Quote:Well yes, there are the actors who playa variety of rolls. And the actors who tend to play themselves, also tend to beable to pull off a roll that isn't playing themself.Sometimes you really have to wonder though. Tom Cruise seems to play nothing but Tom Cruise. Its easy to wonder if he used up all his acting skills in Risky Business. Sometimes he seems not to even be able to play Tom Cruise correctly. Then he shows up in Tropic Thunder.
Tom Hanks is probably the example everyone loves. He tends to play himself, sometimes loosely disguised. He is the everyman, and that's what he's good at playing, but well. George Clooney seems to do a good job playing variations of George Clooney, sometimes disguised much better than Tom Hanks.
But then there's Russell Crowe. Who is apparently a dick, but plays a rather diverse set of characters, most of which are not nearly as dickish. And Matt Damon, who is definitely not playing the same character in the Bourne movies as he did in Courage Under Fire or The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Although to my mind, the best character actors are the B-listers who seem to show up in movie after movie always playing different interesting parts. The late J.T. Walsh, for example. Chris Cooper. J.K. Simmons. Gary Oldman. Those guys. Everyone knows them, even if not everyone can remember their names. Hardly a bad performance among the lot of them.
Harrison Ford. He's a great example. Usually himself, though can pull off the suprises. -

Quote:That's how I've RPed every character I've made up to this point.yeah the fact that it makes it seem absolute that paragon is a dream would peeve me a bit too.
I RP my character as specifically living in Real life, and he wasn't originally from paragon city, either.
Like I said in previous posts, the idea is that's it's basically flavor text...part of the concept.
It wouldn't effect anyone, as how many people can control every part of their dream? Not many.
It would be no different for Suzy. Unless you're saying the actions you take are really her subconscience, but even then, it's still outside of her control, and thusly the player characters are still in control of their players.
I don't see why the character would dismiss anyone's actions as a product of her imagination, as she basically living in a dream and doesn't know it. -
Quote:Series Finale indicated end of a show.It is if you're European and you don't get the aforementioned commericials (or even know exactly what series Virgin 1 are showing)
And doesn't "series finale" usually indicate the end of just this years series, not the end of an entire show?
Season Finale indicates end of this years run. -
Quote:Having never read the book, I can base my judgement solely on the movie, and I found it entertaining.Read the novel that The Postman was *very* loosely based on - David Brin's "The Postman" - to see exactly how bad that movie really is. Costner took one of my favorite sci-fi novels and dumped huge, steaming loads of "director's vision" all over the original story.
But if you want to enlighten me. Did he change it more or less than HP: The Half Blood Prince, which the movie really never got into why the movie was even titled the Half Blood Prince! :/ -
Wait, if they cast Kevin Costner in this, and it fails...will they blame Costner?
I just wonder, as I read an article recently saying there's people wanting to boycott Superman for using a British actor for Supes. -
Well this shouldn't be news, as they had commercials saying "Series finale" just a couple of weeks ago.
Not suprised on Chuck. I expected to see it on the endangered list.
I enjoy The Defenders, I thought it was the worst move, to move the show to Fridays. :/
Looks to be no word on The Mentalist or Criminal Minds. :/ Hope those both get renewed.
Knew it awhile ago, but happy to see NCIS is renewed. -
Still working on my own SS/FA Brute build, but I'd say take Manuevers myself, but with Rage, I'm not to sure you really need Focused Accuracy, especially with Rage being perma and stacking.
I'm going with Fire or Soul Epic myself, just havent figured out a build I'm happy with yet. Though still having fun with my Brute! -
Noisemaker, Joybuzzer, Spoilsport, AngelDust, Dark God...all names on Virtue, all names I'm suprised werent taken before I got them.

Quote:But I'd miss Golden Girl's posts if they took her with them!/this. Seriously. If you hate it this much, go away and quit spending money on it. And take golden girl with you.
How to enjoy a peacebringer: Don't read the forums.
Serious answer though? Get some help down in the kheld forums to see if there's something you can do that fits your playstyle. You may want to invest more in forms. You may want to use just one instead of both forms. Or you may want to go just human.
If you don't like it afterward, then you don't like it. It doesn't mean the AT "sucks" or anything, just that it's not for you. I don't really like Dual Blades, since I feel like I have to chase combos to be effective, so I deleted mine. I don't like Widows and Forts, so I don't play them. Doesn't mean they're bad, just that they're not for me. It's your $15/month, play what you find fun.
To the OP. Just because you have a character at 50, doesn't mean you have to play it.
I have like 28-30 level 50's. I play 1 of them, and it's the only one to go through the incarnate story arc.
So ATs/powerset combos just aren't for everyone. Dark Melee/Shield is an awesome combo...still don't care for it myself. In fact, I don't even care to play Dark Melee, and I LOVE high single target DPS in my builds. -

Quote:I was thinking more along the lines of the major times.Wouldn't be upsetting, but would most likely be disregarded.
It's one thing for you to say, "My character(s) [and any others who choose to go along with the idea, maybe an entire SG] is all a figment of this child's imagination, but does not know that". It's quite another to imply that everyone belongs to your background story.
And no, it really isn't any different than those types of bios.
And then the little bit about the character showing up at every awakening of the Well. Is that the major times, such as Statesman/Recluse? Or every time someone(like a player) becomes an incarnate?
Because the former is a bit extreme, but possibly explainable. The latter, however, would be an obscene amount of god moding.
Though that was the part of it, no one, not even the character, would know it's part of their imagination. It would just be akin to flavor text for the concept.
And while I know I've seen the St Elsewhere ending before (and the Fan created ending to Fosters Home of Imaginary Friends) I wasn't thinking of those when I thought of it, but could of easily been hiding back there.
The autistic part was just me watching Criminal Minds last night (awesome show you should all be watching it), and it could of easily been coma patient or someone just dreaming.
I'd say one of the influences to the idea was another players bio, which said they were the reason for no rain in Paragon, then tying it with everytime the Well was opened/awoken. -
-
Quote:Nope.BTW, you didn't just read Dwayne McDuffie's Six Degrees of St. Elsewhere over on CBR by any chance, did you?

To answer the questions of why put it in the bio. Because I tend to treat the bio as OOC synoposis of the character, not a "everyone knows this". In fact, my main didn't even know anything about was in her bio for the first few years.
Example...we all know Batman's history, but that doesn't mean everyone in the DC universe knows the how and why he became a hero.
No idea who Tommy Westphall is.
But thanks for the replies everyone. I was just curious.
-
So...you run into someone in game with the following bio (well it would be more fleshed out...but this is just a quick go at it)...
The hero known as [insert hero name here] has shown up at every awakening of the well. Vanishing when it's effects become dormat once again.
In reality, [inset hero name here] is Suzy. An autistic child who lives in the reality. All of Paragon is but her dream, only [insert hero name here] doesn't know this.
...blah blah blah...there you go. The basics.
Now if you saw that bio, would it be all upsetting? Easily worked around, since [insert hero name here] doesn't even know the truth herself, so couldn't go saying annoying things like "Lol you're my imagination"
Is it any different than anyone else who has a "It's because of me this game effect is how it is" in their bio? -
Why would you think getting a Notice of the Well, would be limited to the level 50 TFs?
You're off doing something when the Well gives you a Notice. Nothing ever said it had to be the late game things. -
Quote:I thought we figured out that they backtracked their whole "comic book superheroes" awhile ago.http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=25349
Read all about it!
Get it right folks! We're a superhero game, not a comic book game!

Quote:in i20, all enemies will drop shards, not just level 50 ones. What bugs me is I'm going to have to tough it out if I want my main to get the final Tier Spiritual Alpha, 32 shards plus 2 Notices of The Well to make the ultra rare final recipe piece. >_<
Hopefully they add some kind of benefit for players who run weekly strike targets where if you have had your alpha slots unlocked, you can get shard drops. Does this happen right now? If not, this week is gunna blow since Psyche and Mantis are bellow the 45 mark (let alone shards still only drop off 50+'s right?). -
Hmmm...I loved Robocop. But could a reboot be as good or better than the original number 1?
I enjoyed 2 and 3, but 1 was the best of the three, and I'm not quite sure if a reboot could be as good as the original! -
o.O Haven't had this problem on RotP, in fact it's one of the self-rezes that seems to have an untouchable period that actually seems to work.
-
It happens. It sucks when it does, but I wouldn't worry about it to much.
This is why when I run Master of Taskforces, I always say "Attempting a MoTF" so people know it's an attempt not a promise, and hopefully have them not feel as bad if they do die.
As for the stealing aggro. You're a Brute, you generate aggro as well, not to mention, don't believe the hype.
Aggro can be ripped off any tank with the right factors.
My Ice/Ice/Arctic Tanker couldn't keep aggro on Romi, with 2 aggro auras, taunt and attacking before anyone else did anything, once the Shield Scrapper got into range of Romi, who immediately said "Haha Ice Tanker pffft. I want the Shield Scrapper"
I've also seen Blasters just pull off aggro on my ice tanker.
My main was Confronting/Range Blasting Recluse for a good 3 minutes, a shield scrapper just ran by Recluse on the way to the next tower, didn't attack him, Recluse was just hit with the Shielder's AAO, aggro was ripped that easily. -
I'd use them more often if they weren't limited to one color.
I'd go from 2 color tights on my main, an outfit that's all one color and torn. Wouldn't look right.
If I just had plain one color tights on my character, I'd use the blasted option for tights for sure.
