Wow really. I havent bothered to play my soldier or widow since they hit 50. But they can't use the ascension armor at all? Not even on alt costumes?
-
I'd rather keep it around my character, at least for Corrs/Trollers/and later Defenders, then an ally toggle.
I want powers my own character can use while solo, not restricted to only teaming.
And I team a lot.
With MMs, at least I will have a Henchman available to use it on. -

Quote:Alignment Merits, Emp Merits...hell yes I think that the PvP IO is within the grasp of anyone who wants it now.Nitpick all you like, that's still not the point I was making, and not what I said.
If you're gonna argue specifics, I'll simply say that before the halo-effect change to defense bonuses, and the addition of PvP IOs, it wasn't easy at all to cap, and I find it more than a little silly that you consider a PvP rare that generally sells for over the INF cap to be a viable part of the solution for most players.
Instead of getting those costume pieces. 3 trials a day...20 days...snags you that PvP IO. Don't like trials? Alignment Merits.
I'd have more than the 2 I have now, if I had another chartacter over level 50 that I cared about playing after it hit 50, to do the End Game content with. -
How exactly is this Protest working anyways?
Do you protest it by not playing any doms now or after i21?
By only playing doms?
By holding up cute little signs, that the masses ignore, except for that one sign that has someone think, "Oh. How cute." -
Quote:Doing a quick, dream build...grabbing Fire Epic for more AOE...My thoughts: it's about to get really slot-hungry since Energize needs slotting and Conserve Power not only doesn't need extra slots but was often skipped as irrelevant. It'd be nice if the Stalker version of Energy Protection had all of Dampening Field rolled into it also, what with them increasing the resistance and adding extra stuff to the auto powers. A bit more defense debuff resistance would be nice, but I didn't see that anywhere.
So... meh. Overall it's probably better but the only thing that would cause me to make another Energy Aura character is that it was ported to Scrappers - and the changes are more likely to prevent me from making one than cause me to, since I can't simply convert my current DM/EA Brute.
Softcapped to all except Neg (42%)/Psi(18%) and that's without Energy Drain's +Defense factored in. MA/EA, able to run SK - CS - SK - CAK gapless.
And I still have slots left over, my thought was on going for the additional psi resist and bumping it to 9% Psi Resist.
All that without Hasten, and I still fit in a travel power. -
Could be interresting. It would revive a set that needs reviving and give a mechanic to a non weapon set for those who might like the mechanic but not want a weapon.
-
On the bright side. Figure Vanguard Blade/Energy Blades would likely have no weight to them except for the hilt of the sword. So all those realist can go "Just have to lift the hilt" and don't have to be superstrong to weild it.

Quote:I did look at what you posted. And yes, Typed Defense tends to be harder to softcap than Positional. Except not on Energy Aura.Did you look at what I said? I said it was harder than positional, that's all.
Taking CJ, Man, Weave, EA's 2 Defense shields and it's Cloak, throwing in the 2 +3% Defense IOs, You're at 43.8% S/L, 47.4% F/C, 50.3% Energy, and 40.2% Negative Defenses.Quote:Fix #3- The changes announced today. EA gets the better self heal, and it gets an added survivability tool to make up for both the fact that it is harder to cap Typed defense, and that with an aggro aura there will be more incoming damage for Energy Brutes.
Throw in Tactics, slot it with a set of Gaussians and you've softcapped S/L and gotten Negative even closer.
And this is before any buffs.
EA has always been easy enough to softcap. With ED getting a +Defense added to it, you can probably get by without the one 3% Defense IO.
So saying it gets a better self heal to make up for the fact that it's hard to softcap Typed Defenses, is what perplexes me. With EA it was already easy to softcap.
As a bonus, this leaves one to focus on Sets with +RCH to get the most damage out of their Primary.
Now...Softcapping those WP and INV are an entirely different matter. -

Quote:If you're on a team, wouldn't the team beable to cover the times when the SR Tank is at their weakest?I am forced to agree with this general assessment as well.
Go try tanking something like Devouring Earth or Veng buffed Nemesis with an SR and see how long you stay on your feet.
The things that can ignore defense are getting more plentiful in this era of the game. That's going to suck for a tank who is expected to hold the agro of those things with nothing BUT defense to rely on.
Sure, it will be a solid set for a lot of things, but if I'm about to start a DE arc, I'm going to boot an SR tank in favor of something that can survive the agro in a heartbeat.
For end game, I'd just say go with Rebirth for the +Heal/+Regen.
Also there's inspiration use for the Tanker to use.
And again, the team to cover the Tankers back. Like a Sonic, or Emp or Thermal! -
Quote:I disagree with this.2) Not everyone can afford a crazy IOed build, and the extra helping of +Def/+Recovery is a huge help at times. And without IOs or Power Pool powers, Energy Aura currently tops out at around 30% Def to most except Psionic; with the Power Pool +Def powers but no IOs, you're only softcapped to Energy, close at 44.5% on Fire/Cold, at 41% on Smash/Lethal, and still pretty far away at 37.5% on Negative. Overload is the only way to reach the softcap on an SO-only build.
Everyone can afford a crazy IO'ed build if they choose to go after it. Alignment Merits, Astral Merits, Emp Merits and Reward Merits, make going after what used to be OMG IMPOSSIBLE builds, very much possible.
If you mean not to concentrate on it, and jump between 100's of chaarcters due to altitis, that doesn't mean it's not possible, it just means you're not trying to IO out a character.
But it's quite easy for anyone who just works towards it. -
I would say jump into the middle of the group, hit Burst, then hit Energy Drain.

Quote:His combo is Force Field/Fire Blast. As Strato said, corruptors excel in high HP combat, i.e. AVs, EBs, and GMs. If you plan on incarnating the character or task forcing alot, corruptor will arguably be the better pick outside of a genuine pure shield set, and sonic resonance and thermal even make that arguable.
Also, I'd personally suggest controller for storm over either defender or corruptor. It meshes better and you can abuse No Knockback Immobs to make Tornado do some pretty respectable damage, on top of sitting in hurricane distance without sending things flying.
Even on a Corruptor, he wouldn't be doing that solo for AVs without temp power usage, as FF has no -resist or -regen.
With the Traps/ Dark/ Storm/ the Defender can be made more survivable, which if a factor in taking on those big targets solo.
Really, you can't go wrong with either combo in terms of damage though.
With Force Field, I'd just say roll Defender for the better Defense numbers. -
Quote:If it gets ported as I think it would, like the Brute version...Yes. But leveling up is going to be...painful.
Next to no damage resistance. So anything that cracks your defenses is (pardon the colloquialism) going to **** your **** up. And at lower levels that's going to be...well...EVERYTHING.
01) Focused Fighting
01) Focused Senses
02) Agile
06) Practiced Brawler
08) Dodge
12) Evasion
18) Lucky
26) Quickness
32) Elude
...and with higher Defense numbers. Carring around some inspirations for backup, I think SR will be doing okay in the early levels. And look at that...AOE Defense at level 12 for an SR.
Haven't been interrested in rolling a new Tanker for awhile. Now...hmmmm...if I can decide on which Secondary, I'd likely roll it. -
Quote:Of course it's balanced. It's just as balanced as it is for Scrappers/Brutes/Tankers.That's not terribly balanced, now is it? One Stalker Secondary is allowed to massively boost Assasination damage without any outside buffs? And what about the damage from Burn and Rise of the Phoenix? No Stalker Secondary with a Damage component has anything beyond Trivial Damage.
Fire Armor is all about extra damage. That's it's whole purpose.
Hmmm...I'd expect to see lots of ELM/FA Stalkers at that point. Two Pets to let lose before Assassin Strike.
Well have to IO for defense to make it really work though. -

Quote:You rolled an EA stalker for the Energy Drain Heal?So... The one redeeming power in Energy Aura, the sole reason I rolled an Elec/EA Stalker... (that being Energy Drain) Has been eliminated, and replaced with a +Defense effect, when you're already sitting on one of the easiest sets to softcap in existence, plus you get the most worthless T9 power in the game, in Overload... For the love of all things holy, at least switch Overload to Resistance instead of Defense... Please... I beg you. Adding 45% defense to a set that already has 40%+ (I'm at around 56% to all types except Psi with IO's) and has reasonable debuff resistance does diddly squat. The only logical use I can come up with for Overload is running in to tank a mob with no toggles because you just got rezzed because you no longer have a useful heal. *sigh* I was just starting to like EA, too.
Aside from that complaint... Everything else looks freaking epic. I'll be needing more character slots... For a new Stalker (although I'll clearly be freeing up a slot with my current Stalker.. *sigh*), a new Blaster (possibly two... Or three...), and deleting my Mental/Thermal 'troller in favor of the Thermal/Psi Defender I wanted when I rolled it... Maybe a new tank or three, since the 4 or 5 I already have on Virtue clearly aren't enough. >.>
It still heals with Energize, while being able to easily stay over the Defense Softcap of iTrials. -
I didnt forget he'd be in a wheelchair. I was hoping they'd save it for later though.

I am excited! Just realized I can reroll my Cold/Fire Corr to a Defender!
Fire Blast tier 1 or tier 2 you can tend to switch off between with not to much of a worry.
With Cold Dom as Primary, I can skip infrigidate! Which, truthfully, I was never really impressed with on my Cold/Ice Defender.
I'm sure there are people out there who think it's great and awesome and really adds to the set. But I really just didn't see it being all that useful. :/ -
For higher damage...what on teams with other damage users, so it won't matter as much?
Or solo play, where, what exactly is the damage difference? 5 DPS? 10 DPS? 20 DPS?
Last I knew, solo wise, the damage was pretty even, and on a Defender you'll get better defense numbers when solo.
Sooo...
Why not go Defender?
Not that I'm discouraging Corruptors. I tend to prefere them, but that's more from a "I want my blasts now" type of deal.
I tend to prefere Cold Domination on Defenders for instance...and OMG...I just realized...

Quote:Could you make that awesome of a build with something that wasn't Katana though?Well, let's see here...
If both Katana and Regen gets ported over as is...
Here's what mine would look like...
- Lethal/Melee softcap with 1x DA
- Range at 34% / AoE at 31%
- HP close to 2k with out DP (close to 3k with)
- regen at around 600% before IH (1632% with for 200+ hp/sec with DP)
- 23.5 s/l resists
- capable of running DN full time
- hasten close to perma, 50% uptime on IH, 70 seconds recharge on MoG (90% res to all but psi when up), 16 seconds recon, DP on a 99 seconds recharge
Yeah it's Katana...

Quote:^^SD being overused, having to have a shield on your arm, not being able to do Spines, Claws, DB, and Katana with it, changing your animations, a click mez protection that you have to refresh every few seconds to keep capped DDR (yes exaggeration, but again, I'm talking about how I feel about it
, having to use a mouse to use SC (I game on a laptop often enough for it to be annoying), and did I mention over popular, all make me dislike SD.
People can show facts, tell me I'm wrong, or any other thing. I realize this is really liberal, getting in touch with feelings, instead of cold, hard facts, but the reason I PLAY a game is for the feelings it instils within me. I just dislike SD (also WP... but that is another thread
so please don't assume that all other sets are inferior just because you believe, feel, or even prove it to be. This world is infused with billions of different people, all with different views and opinions. There are right and wrong ones, but even people confronted with their wrong position will still cling to it.
I see how awesome Shield is by the numbers, but outside of the Vanguard Shield and one concept I don't want to repeat over and over again...well...really...it never felt like a set that should be used by over half the heroes running around the city
