  3. I don't know much about Flashpoint. I went into the comic store, bought some comics, and decided against any of the flashpoint titles, as I thought..."Why bother? They're relaunching everything."

So correct me if I'm wrong, but from a lore standpoint, isn't the new DCU because Flash had to put it back together the best he could...and thusly from a lore standpoint, Starfire is this way, because that's how he see's Starfire?

    I'll have to disagree here.

Just because every OTHER AT has a solo friendly Inherent, doesn't mean all ATs should have it. There is such a thing as being unique.

That said, I never thought of the Kheldians Inherent as their biggest problem.

However, I do like the idea of Favored Form.

    My thoughts:

Human: Mag 6 Protection to Sleep, Hold, Disorient. They are less likely to have their shields detoggled.

Nova: +Resists. They're more durable in the squishiest of forms.

Drawf: +SPD/+RCH. They're so used to their hulking form they've overcome some of it's drawbacks.

  11. Time's Crawl: 2-3 slots of ACC and ENDRED. It recharges fast enough on it's own, and faster once you have some +RCH set bonuses and/or Chrono Shift and/or Hasten.

Time's Juncture: 2 slots of Enzyme Hami Origin Enhancements, untill then, 2 ENDRED enhancements.

If you take Temporal Selection: RCH/END IO.

  14. [QUOTE=Eva Destruction;3912228]They would, since we can't make a butt to match.

The arms are still too puny though. No matter how much of a muscular texture you put on them, they still can't be anything more than "wiry." While this would be better than what we have now, it's much prefer the ability to thicken them up a bit....or in the case of male avatars, thin them out.

It entirely depends on the context. Are you talking about a walking blow-up doll, or are you talking about a person who also happens to be sexually appealing? In other words, are you saying "she's competent and smart and sexy" or are you just saying "she's got a great body?" In certain contexts the second is acceptable. But we are playing a teen-rated game and most of those contexts have no place here. We are here to punch bad guys or good guys in the face. If we want to look good while doing it, great, but the primary concern here should still be the face-punching.

That is my objection to Sister Psyche's portrayal, especially as it contrasts with BAB on the tutorial splash page and pretty much everyone else on the SSA splash page. If I'm a civilian having my purse stolen, I wouldn't expect her to save me. I wouldn't expect her to do much of anything teen-rated. BAB can save me, she can go stand over there and look pretty. That is objectification, and no, it is never a good thing.
    [QUOTE]

Context for TEEN Rating? Teen Rating is all about graphic details.

Why they can have avatars running around with almost nothing on, because as long as certain parts of the body aren't shown, it's able to be rated as TEEN.

In fact, the only they you can't get away with in a TEEN rating is excessive swearing.

Mention of sex, raep, murder, incest, racism, just about anything, can fit into the TEEN rating, if you avoid actual detailed accounts of all of it.

They can easily have said Tyrant and Dominatrix are in a relationship/dating with each other, kept it a TEEN rating, as long as we didn't get an erotic novel about it.

Lots of killing? Well then, don't show blood!

What? You think movies got more violent? Watch an old John Wayne movie. Lots of deaths! It just wasn't graphic. The bad guys (and good guys) were shot and fell over, versus today's "Oh look! We see his spleen and brain matter all over the pavement!"

As for Sister Psyche's portrayal on the splash page...she's looking on in horror as meteors strike down on galaxy City destroying everything. The "Oooh my gawd..." look. While Babs is showing the after effect look of it all of "Gonna kick these Shivan #&%#!"

Maybe the problem is less of how Sister Psyche is drawn, and more of a problem with people thinking a hero can't have an "Oh no!" look or perhaps the artist couldn't draw an "Oh no!" look, or perhaps other things went through people's minds because they see sexy Sister Psyche in a pose with her mouth open!

Obviously I seem to be in the minority, but when I first say the splash page, I didn't think any sexual about it, and though that was her in a stunned look as meteors are falling around GC.

Not sure how to help you sort out "What women want." Maybe get a gay friend and indulge in an hour or two of girl talk about what they like in a guy? Nothing dirty, just an insightful abs vs. eyes sort of conversation. Or work as a photo editor in the fashion industry? Anyways, trust me, men are sexualized quite a bit. Not as much as women still are. But more so now than they were even 15 years ago.

And that catty peer pressure described up-thread that occurs between many women? Can't tell you how clearly some corners of marketing understand that and have been trying to foster that culture amongst any segment of modern male populations. From fragrances to balding treatments to exercise machines to fad diets to garments to music, men are definitely sexualized. Sometimes it is to entice those that are sexually attracted to male bodies. Other times its to spark exploitable insecurities in males themselves. But make no mistake, it does happen in our society at large.

Okay, tangent over. Back to the thread about gender roles within a superhero game.
Of course, I know plenty of guys who are more along the lines "What?! I'm viewed as a piece of meat?!" *HIGH FIVE*

Of course I know lots of women like that too.

So new question: Is this question only being brought up to show how sensitive people are?

Maybe it's my Southern California raising, and now small town living, but it's been nothing but "Look at how good I look." or "Damn, I want people to think I look good." on both sides of the gender divide.

Here's the thing - women get so little travel on most of their sliders (except breasts) that the difference in slider values is only telling from one extreme to the other, and isn't very obvious between degrees closer together. That's why how "big" a female character looks is often much more down to what costume pieces she's using. You'll note that both Brutticus and Xanta have large boots and gloves, large belts and large shoulders, as well as relatively smaller heads. Xanta, especially, really stands out less so due to her stature and more so due to the Medieval shoulders and the Glam hairdo - they're both huge and make her look much bigger.

Considering David shot down both a new model and reweighing the sliders on the old models so hard he left a hole in the sky... Yeah, obviously It won't happen - which is a pity - but there are still ways to work around it. As I've mentioned before, most of a the female model's body is more or less right, especially from the waist down. What women need is more mass in their upper body, and the easiest way to do this seems to give them a new pair of bigger arms via the Rrobotic Arms category. This should be easy to do without the need for new tech and without the need to tweak any existing costume pieces, though it WILL leave the arms separated from chest patterns and textures like short sleeve jackets are. Another possibility is to outright give them a new chest, as well, kind of like the Armoured chest, only bulkier, but this will probably require some work on existing textures and patterns to make sure they stretch right, as well as possibly realigning attached costume pieces like chest pieces and shoulders.

Huge are bad at depicting human people, so I would never argue that they're as common as Male and Female, and I'd even agree that they are more rare. I'm just saying that they're not as non-existent as you say. Keep looking, I'm sure you'll see one before too long. I teamed with one on a Death From Below trial the other day.
I never said people don't make them. I just see how rare these are, to think Huge Female would be just as rare (if not more so)....but maybe when I think Huge Female, I imagine something akin to Huge Male and you picture something completely different.

As for your work around, like I said before, I say go for it. More costume options? Sure!

Sadly, I think with your costume suggestions, people may feel limited. May not. guess it depends on how many people make uses of all the costume slots. I know I have hero outfit, then various civvie outfits, and it sounds like some of these costume options would limit some of the civvie outfits.

Not to mention, I personally would love to see some other, I would think much simpler, costume options before all that (like sleek bikini 2, to match with sleek tights).

When your female has a very high level of "muscle" slider, it makes her butt disproportionate, hence why a lower hips slider helps counter-balance that. A high muscle slider also makes the waist out of proportion, which is why a thick waist is also necessary.
    Minimum Physique:

    Middle Physique:

    Max Physique:

    Max Everything:

I know what the proportions look like

*Note: For the first image, the model has Minimum Physique, 3/4 of an inch over the minimum Shoulders/Chest, Minimum Waist, and Maximum Hips/Legs. After that I just increased the Physique Slider to the 1/2 way point and then max.

Now all my comments have been on new character models by the way. I have no problem with new skin textures. That totally makes sense to me. That seems worthwhile in making. It's the idea of taking time on whole new avatar models I think would be a waist of time.

Also, I think it's likely to late in the game for them to likely fix the sliders looking better as you move them to the left, and and from comments made, if they did, they'd have to fix every costume pieces to fit them, which would be a complete time sink, that imo would be better spent on new costumes, or even giving some of those gender exclusive items to the other gender models.

I say this as someone who would love a more feminine male avatar, so one of my concepts can be fully realized (I've yet to see a male avatar look like a female, and putting the chest slider all the way to minimum and covering it up with a jacket doesn't work 100%)

So it's not like I don't understand the want for different avatars or changes. But even then, I'm not sure what I want would be popular enough to warrant either

*BTW 30mins in AP, new characters popping in...not a single huge model yet.

To Healix: Now see, I see that avatar and think bodybuilder. Nice job!

That's assuming comic books are nothing bug explosions and flying cars, which even someone as poorly-read on the subject can tell you they're not. Comic books are about fantasy with a lower-case F, but what that fantasy is depends on the person fantasising. Some dream about being ridiculously buff, some dream about being very smart, some dream about having a stable family and some dream about their fat *** and beer gut being the latest fashion statement.

"Fantasy" is not the opposite of reality. It's an exaggeration of it, but it's not an exaggeration in any one single direction.

Firs of all, not all characters have the physical ability to BE in shape. Currently, I'm playing the ghost of a Roman soldier who possessed an empty suit of medieval armour. He is a ghost, he has no body, therefore he cannot be in shape. Before that, I played a woman whose body was almost entirely made up of cybernetic implants. Those aren't design to get into shape, because they simply don't work that way. Before that, I played an alien born on Earth whose physiology was not even remotely human by a long shot, therefore he couldn't get into shape. Once Titanic Weapons arrive to the game, I will be playing an ancient automaton from the beginning of time whose body is made of unknown materials and driven by the power of a star. She cannot get in shape because it takes the heat and pressure inside a star to alter her shape even in the slightest.

You confuse diversity with realism, and in the end do more to promote a very limiting kind of realism to a game that doesn't really need to have it. You speak of getting in shape and weight problems that are more or less specific to the human biology where half the canon characters don't even have that. Numina is dead, Positron didn't have a body for the longest time, Bastion is a robot, as is Luminari, the Clock King is a psychic trash robot, Dr. Vahz is a stitched-together pile of corpses, the Nemesis is an automaton with a human brain (maybe), Nosferatu is some kind of mutated monster and so on.

This isn't about realism, it's about diversity, and if that diversity is inspired by real life, then that's just as legitimate.
The fact that I can go out and not see a single Huge Male in a swarm of avatars...or that if I do, it's 1 in a crowd of many?

That fact, that I've yet to see one single character with all the sliders to max setting.

And in those cases, I have to ask, why isn't just upping the physique slider to max happening?

You talk of diversity, but how often do you see people running around with the physique slider all the way maxed out?

I've never seen it. And that would be something different.

So with all this talk of wanting diversity, and it already being made available to you, why aren't you using these tools to create diversity?

Out of the 6 pics you showed, only one looked like it might have the physique slider moved up a bit, and I really can't tell since it's an altered image. Certainly don't have any of the phsyique sliders moved up more than maaaybe a 1/4 of an inch past minimum, none of them look to be in the middle of the slider and that's a starting point.

You want diversity? Then maybe show off what the character creator can do first, and diversify that way, instead of saying "make this happen so we can have diversity".

Make a max to all sliders female character, and run around playing. Give it this great costume, so others are seeing it and going "Well, if Sam can do that with the character creator, so can I."

And I'll also stick to this being a Superhero MMO, as it was orginally advertised, and untill (if memory serves) last year stated on the web ID tag.

Are there are comic books out there with unfit superheroes...even just plain heroes. I'm sure there are. Couldn't name one that's generally considered popular (cult following doesn't mean popular) to the general public.

As for pictures of those olympic weight lifters...how's their running? I believe I mentioned running everywhere.

And okay, you can have your ghost characters, and robot characters, who don't excersize...and just are. Why haven't you just upped the sliders? Make them look like they have some pounds on them, and should walk with a waddle.

The point still stands...not worth the time (this doesn't mean they won't do it, mind you) of the animators for a bit more diversity in avatars, when people aren't making use of all this diversity that is open to them.

Now if I saw more a divserity in avatars, and saw more and more people using closer to max on all the sliders, I'd amost see it.

    As for female tanks...

Fairchild (Gen13) always seemed like a tanker to me.
Rogue (X-Men) seemed like a tanker to me.

But then one see's the damage they can do, and I can see why people may not see them as tankers.

People make all kinds of weird things, from robots to aliens to plant people to living insects and beyond. The game promotes diversity, and diversity is what I, personally, have seen.

Will more esoteric costume creator additions earn the studio loads of new players? Probably not, but at this point I doubt there's anything that will. However, what more esoteric costume creator additions will earn the studio is more new characters per player, and each new character a player likes is one more anchor to keep said player playing THIS game. After all, I play the game without a shadow of regret even without these many pieces I'm asking for. Had I the pieces, however, I would use them to make new characters or upgrade old ones and thus gain new respect for both the game and the studio, and the more I respect the game, the more money I want to pour into it.

At the end of the day, how many new players an addition will bring and how much it will cost aren't issues we have any real outlook over as players, not unless Arcana wants to pitch in on this particular side of the conversation. That's even more true when you consider that over-saturating a particular character theme with too many options tends to start having diminishing returns on player satisfaction. Honestly, if we got another tech texture to add to the dozen tech textures we already have, how many players will that gain us? How much point is there to doing this anyway?

The broader question here isn't player numbers, not in terms of what we can discuss, but rather the merit of creating new themes vs. supplementing old themes. As in all things, the answer is somewhere in-between the extremes, but I can say this with a great degree of certainty - if you give players greater freedom, players WILL exploit it. Maybe not immediately, but they will.
the forums do not represent the game at large.

Or else by now, or we'd see a few more suggestions of "Bikini bottom and top in stillettos" you know, of which I've seen in game quite a few times.
