Mortal Kombat reboot....

Mortal Kombat it appears is getting rebooted.... The reason is that the webisodes peaked Warner Bros interest enough that they decided to go through with the reboot.

The only draw back is that it appears that the actors from the webisodes may or may not be back as the movie is currently in the development stage. Also the storyline from the webisodes isnt being continued and an all new story is being written....one can only hope that this movie will be done better than the original and the sequel was just garbage.....

The first Mortal Kombat movie was a guilty pleasure. Much like the Dead or Alive movie.

Still remember my favorite MST3K style moments amongst my group of friends that came out of DoA.

"Hello..I'm distinctly not Asian."

"Well...you probably should be..."

"Nope...not going to look anything like my ingame character apart from a very silly wig."

"That's lovely."

I would have to say that this idea sucks more than an atomic powered hoover with a chewy black hole center.

As was mentioned it isn't going to be the same actors and it isn't going to be the same writer. It's typical Hollywood. Odds are it will in no way resemble the webisodes that were so popular.

There will be plenty of blood since what Hollywood has taken from this is that people like blood in their MK. But it will probably have corny dialogue with a lot of pop culture references. Shaky-cam fights. A teenage video game playing kid who somehow winds up in the tournament. A rap soundtrack. And whatever else is flavor of the moment.

At least that's my prediction.

I'll be honest, I quite like the original MK movie. Was it a great film? Of course not. But wasn't a truly bad one either. It's still the most faithful adaptation of a video game franchise to make it to the big screen.

That sequel however... /em shudder.

I'm not predicting a disaster with the reboot. Though I'm not expecting a masterpiece. Just so long as Michael Bay isn't involved and Erhen Kruger goes nowhere near the script, I'll think we'll get something halfway entertaining.

I heard it's going to be done as if it were an off broadway musical.

I might be alone in this........

But the TV series from awhile back wasn't that bad for it was either.

Which one? Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm (the animated one) or Mortal Kombat: Konquest (the live action)?

You can get the DVDs on Amazon, apparently. Not in a box set though.
