Um I have tanked him 3 times with my Fire/Fire and seriously I have way more issues with the toxic tarantulas than him.
Its not just tough or weave, its the whole build including IO sets. I have posted many times before in many threads that a Fire/Fire or even a Fire/Dark can have Granite tank stats for less that 60 million inf, all you need is full 6 slot sets in really cheap IOs like Multi-Strike, Red Fortune, Titaniums, and Makos. Before I upgraded my Fire/Fire with high end IOs I was sitting at 71 Res / 32 melee defense with the basic IO sets above. This is more than enough to tank any AV in the game and basically the same as a SOd Granite.
A WP tank wont do any better as its main mitigation is RttC which requires 10 mobs to max and wont protect you from alphas or single targets with heavy damage ( like AV's ).
P.S. Just to let you know what a well built fire tank can do. I tanked STF last week and we forgot to bring a toggler for LR, well by the time we figured out we couldnt finish because of mass bane spawn and a few team DC's I had LR + 27 Banes on me. The only mitigation I had was Fort from our defender which easily soft capped me and I chewed one medium purple 3 times while the Blue towers 30% hit was up. After than I just used the Fort.

Not sure if this is a bug from i15 or I need to reinstall the game but here goes.
Ever since i15 I cannot leave the game and select another character after long periods of play. Basically as soon as I click the new character then click enter the game freezes. This doesnt happen when I first enter, or if I log in log out many times in the first few hours ( to check WW on multiple characters). It only seems to happen after say 3 or 4 hours of heavy play.
I am at work now so cant post a dxdiag, but I doubt its drivers as these are the same ones I have had since January and this only started happening in the last month.
C2D 6850
Asus P5Q Deluxe
2GB Corsair 6400 ram
ATI 4870 /512
SB Audigy 4
Antec P182 ( so no heat issues )
Win XP
All drivers are latest except video card , they are from 6 months ago. I cant see it being the drivers or there would have been mention of it in the ATI threads or in my SG as many are using various drivers from the last year. Maybe a memory leak? -
Are you at the level where you face Longbow Flamethrowers with Ignite? or the Spec Ops with AoE? ( or pretty much any AoE crazy group) I find it really helps and you wont need to use Provoke or TP Foe for that.
Taking PG on my Mercs/Dark enabled me to completly ignore AoE mobs, which sometimes insta kill your pets if your not fast enough on the GOTO's. All I do is Shadowfall within range of the spawn and PG the Flamethrower, then let your pets deal with the other 3-5 normal mobs.
With enough slotting PG is perma hold and if you take the Patron hold with slotting, you can hold bosses.
P.S. Both mine are 6 slotted with Lockdowns, I can consistently hold EB's. -
No Achilles Heel in RI? I have had it in mine since level 14 and I can tell you it fires pretty much every boss or EB/AV fight. having -22.5 from EF stacked with -20 res in Achilles Heel is very noticeable.

How would slotting a Touch of Lady Grey: Chance for Negitive Energy damage work with Radiation Infection?
Does it only check at the initial activation or does it check every few seconds?
I'm assuming it only works on the anchor not the other infected mobs.
[/ QUOTE ]
be carefull if you want to do things like STF or you RI, EF things that are a sleep.
STF it would cause LR to summon Banes if you use it on him for the -to hit and anti summon toggle
Sleep , well it would wake them up
I put and Achilles Heel in mine at level 15 and have loved it ever since! I regularly see the red shields on multiple mobs when they are in the AoE and it really helps when stacked with EF. -

a...scorch is crazy minor damage..get rid of it.
b..f.e. and b.u. are underslotted..fire is the highest damage output. these two together are crazy. make it happen
c...your slotting is all over the place.i cant tell what you were going for..
d..stamina ...3 slot it.
e..dump rise of the phoenix..aint nothing but eye candy.
f..super jump 3 slotted?..waste of 2 slots.
g..combat jump is WAY over slotted.
h...demons are fire based..your a "fire" tank....stop doing demons and do freakshow. they herd better, faster and rez for more spawns.
i...drop acro and get i.o kb protection.
j...pick up tough and weave
k...go hunt kill freaks
now about the farming and end recov..there are sooooo many recovery bonus's in i.o sets..if you plan on farming go with a set plan for your tank
i went with recov and recharge along with some acc.
almost everything has recov bonus's so look around..they will cost and if you get purples youll be all kinds of set.i did so well on mine that i was able to drop conserve power...then later on..i also dropped consume ..havent run outta end yet.

Lets ignore the post bbq flaming. I really do see this as great advice (for a farm build, esp solo, I'd drop weave).
so fitness, fighting, travel power ... add in hasten. Everything tastes better with hasten, esp on a farm build.
You have your 4 power pools. Coldmed is right about freaks.
demons are good for magical salvage, which isnt as rare as it used to be (tech has some expensive rares to match too). That being equal, go freaks. more influence, same drop rate.
farm builds should be about recover/endurance and recharge.
add in tough, with healing flames, you will be fine.
While coldmeds build is unrealistic for the OP, his advice isnt.
listen to uncle/auntie gashes (thanks to science pack for tran-gendering my heroes :P)
ROTP? only helps if your dead. you shouldnt die (take tough, and watch the magic esp with healing flames).
2-3 slotting a travel power? on a farm build? I have/do if I'm going for defense bonuses (love the zephrs).
as for a), i'm sure he means dump the slots elsewhere, not the power (though that would be impressive if you can)

QFT.
Sound advice with goals to work towards. I wont slot purples because of expense, but I dont hate on those who can. That is retarded and selfish.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not hating on his purples, hating on his total lack of respect for anyone who doesnt think his way , including some pretty new players to the game. In this thread alone he called several people "nub's" just for having different opinions. I have seen several posts where has flamed new players who asked semi dumb questions only to have the thread erupt into a flame war...oh look , just like this one.
Posting in every thread I have 23 level 50s with a 3 billion inf Fire tank so you are wrong nub is not going to win people over. He starts acting like a normal person with manners and treat people with some respect , I might stop the hate. -

*edit*..why pick weave?..ill tell you...cause of the 3% resist damage i.o and lotg + recharges
fire tanks dont have DEFENSe powers to use these things..therefore its not about the defense..its about slotting for the unqiues..course since you most likely dont know that you clearly are misinformed .
[/ QUOTE ]
I too would drop weave. Whatever defense IOs you need can simply be slotted in Combat Jumping. While true you can take both and double the effect, I believe the extra power pick could be used for something more.
Just my 2 cents.
[/ QUOTE ]
A fully slotted Weave is 7.88% Def to all, if you put even basic Red Fortunes in it you have a 10.38% Def to range, thats pretty huge. That covers anything shot at you regardless of damage type. -
Might be difficult without a buffer to push you 30% over the soft cap to compensate for the blue tower or not being able to use Parry, might be best to use a soft capped SR. At the very least go Blue then Red tower to get rid of that 30% hit bonus then his damage bonus
Hover and toggle to stop Banes might frustrate him and he might to the rubber band target on the next closest scrapper. Happens when I tank him and he briefly losses sight of me at the pillar flag poles. I have learned never to get the pillar in between us or he may dart to the Emp and one shot her.
For GW you will need some sort of slow toggle and maybe caltrops. Your confront should have a longer range than her hold so if you keep her at max range you should be safe. I know I only ever get hit with it when we turn the kiting corner ( when I slip into her range )
How do you plan to get passed her 10% per person melee range heal? 7 Scrappers in range = 70% heal = very very long fight -
Hell I don't have that! 343 for me because I do have a life
. 700 content badges tell us he actually plays all of the game and not farm the the same map 500 times a day like in d2.
-
Probably going to get Coldemeded for this but here goes.
DISCLAMER FOR THE EPEEN MAN!! This is for someone returning to the game who has limited money to start with
6 slot all your AOEs with Multi Strikes ( Blazing, Consume, Combustion, FSC, Fireball )
6 Slot all your single with Makos ( Scorch if slotted, Incinerate , GFS )
6 slot all your shields with Titanium ( Fire Shield , Tough )
4 slot 1 shield with Reactive ( plasma Shield ) and 2 slot Steadfast ( res/def IO and KB prot )
6 Slot all your Def shields with Red Fortunes ( Weave)
Add Karma KB Prot to CJ
All of this will run you under 20 to 40 mil for the sets and 20 to 30 mill for both KB and Steadfast Res/Def IO. This should also give you around 71% resist and 25% to 30% melee defense and 20% to 25% range defense. This is almost the same as a SOd Granite Stone tank which should enable you to tank everything in the game ( TFs and Large groups )
After you start making money start replacing Multis with Obliterations and adding specials like Numinas if needed -
Are you still at it Coldmed? When are you going to learn your not cool because you have 23 level 50's and a 2 billion inf Fire tank? To me and most people who have jobs and girlfriends, you would be cool if you had 5 level 50's a 100 mil fire/fire tank that could tank anything in the game and a real life.
You know your really digging yourself a hole here. When I offered advice I was offering how to make a decent fire/fire with limited inf, sure it had Multi's and I had to over slot shields at the cost of BU/ FE slotting. But thats what people who play 1 or 2 hours a day want, something they can make with limited money and still feel like a hero. Not some super pharming uber AE build that can kill 100000000000000 freaks meows.
You on the other hand need to comment on everyones build, saying everyone else is crap. Spouting your epeen PvP purples and putting all the new players down by calling them nubs . If you need to compensate maybe try doing something really impressive and get 700 content badges on one of your 23 characters. -
Did it again with a more stacked team this time. Took a Rad, Kin and Cold, 4 Damage dealers and a Fire tank ( not me ). I was on my scrapper. The fire tank was retired for 3 years so no IO's but did have tough/weave. We finished in in 32 minutes with zero deaths, not sure whats suppose to be hard for a tank?

plus my build costs is more then your probably gonna wanna see..
yes ive done the stf...no never the mstf cause frankly i dont wanna but i could have and would get the mostf (not a badger)..no one is impressed..its your buffs that help you tank l.r. not just you so stop pretending your more then you are with you and your big multistrikes..lulz
[/ QUOTE ]
sigh ok you win, I cant compete with someone who wont post facts, builds or numbers. just d00d speak.
P.S. Multistrikes in FSC and Blazing Aura because they offer positional defense in 5 catigories and also cut the cost of those 2 very heavy end powers in half. Oblits only reduces the end by 18.55%. I gave up a bit of melee defense for defense in 4 other areas plus the ability to use my AoE's at will.
Of course you already new that because you have a rocken 1 billion inf tank that can tank all and puts ours to shame..plus all the facts you stated to back it up....lulz ...sigh
God why am I even talking to you , you are just another forum jockey who hasn't actually tried the stuff I am talking about. "its your buffs that help you tank?" huh? FE never helped me tank LR, in fact doing that will get you killed so fast its not funny. Can you say Bane spiders? Do you even actually have a fire tank?
"I cant because mids is not up to date" good one ROTFL
Edit:
If you meant that its the team buffs that help you tank then thats pretty sad. Pretty sad your 1 billion inf fire tank needs a buffer to tank , I did Reichman TF last night with a whatever you want to bring group from my SG. We had me, 2 scrappers, 2 Storms, 1 Blaster and a Kin. No Shields, Fort or Bubbles , I tanked Reichman just fine for the 45 minutes + it took us to kill him

If nobody thinks it'll be too much of a catastrophe I guess I'll use the build I last posted, it seems like it'll be good to me.

Looks good, you should do very well. Have fun!
-
The Toxic Tarrantulas in the first mission hurt more than Reichman. As for cookie cutter = lol
we had
50 Fire tank
45 fire scrapper
50 Ill/kin
50 ill/storm
50 fire/fire blaster
50 MA/SR scrapper
47 grav/storm
very little debuffs , very little buffs. -
Just tanked him with my SG and my Fire/Fire. Each time he called an AV our SR scrapper would intercept then run it over to me and I would get it into the taunt bubble. I would then hold Reich and the other AV while they killed the add. The fight took roughly an hour but he wasn't really putting out any huge damage that I could see. His unstoppable on the other hand was super annoying.

Um ok, log in and show me your MSTF badge on your Fire/Fire. Didn't think so
Now explain to me why an attack with a 1.17s recharge for 114 damage with a 1 second activation is bad?
Please explain to me why a Fire/Fire tank with 32% Defense that can tank LR is bad? (edit: and now Reichman )
Please explain to me why I would want to treat my Fire/fire tank like a scrapper and extra slot all the attack buffs instead of shields or defenses?
Actually for that matter explain anything in your statement with proper spelling and no 'z'' in place of 's'.
Show me some numbers?
p's. oh and incase you can't figure it out I will explain it to you slowly. With Hasten and global recharge the difference between a 1 slotted FE and 3 slotted with IO's is 77 sec and 63 sec. BU is 39 and 31. So for those 4 extra slots I can increase my defenses as much as 7% and all I am losing is 14 seconds of damage buff recharge. If I was a Scrapper in the Scrapper forum talking about Scrapper damage I would care.
To Psychic_Guardian , sorry for derailing your thread. Build whatever makes you happy and is fun to play. Go more offense or go pure Defense its up to you. There is no "right" way.
I rolled my fire/fire 5 years ago as a Tanker not a Scrapper so I tend to max Res/Def so I can tank teams and TF's. I am to lazy to make a Stone/WP or Invuln so I need to do the best I can with what I have -
[ QUOTE ]
I'll post both builds below, but a couple things about your build right now (if that's the general way you want it set up). I'd drop Burn and Breath of Fire and get Incinerate and and Fireball. You should definitely have Incinerate in any build, as that is one of your main ST powers. It's a DoT, of course, but that just means you should use that power first against a hard target. Not taking it is a glaring hole in your abilities. Fire Ball is easier to leverage as it has more range and is a Targeted AOE (rather than a short range cone). BoF does recharge faster, but I've found Fireball to be more useful (and it doesn't have that weird animation, either). Oh, and Burn is really only useful for damage if you're facing something that does not get fear (an AV, usually) or if you have some source of immobilization yourself. That's just too many difficulties to me... I'd rather use the other powers that will always hit reliably without a lot of setup.
[/ QUOTE ]
You start off by saying there is no wrong way then you go onto this.
Not taking incinerate is a "glaring hole in your abilities"? I have never taken it and do very well against single targets with a 1.17s speed scorch for 114 damage and a 4.62s speed GFS for 313 damage. With 6 toggles and taunt , anything more than those 2 and you sucking wind on a EB or AV. I solo'd Tina and Maria Jenkins arcs just fine with those 2 attacks, so to say that a fire is gimped without it is IYHO...... DPS wise Scorch is much more efficient than incinerate , it is 3 x as fast and only half the damage. GFS is 50% more damage and only 2s slower. ( IMHO )
Drop Fireball? Burn is only usefull agains AVs? If he is going damage GFSC > Fireball> Combustion is the DPS AoE chain , it has been proven in many fire threads. Even though I dont use it anymore because I went Quick Sand > Burn , if I was to go back to Pyre I would definitely take Fireball for the 1.2.3 AoE punch. Burn is very usefull against all opponets if teamed with Qucksand from the Earth mastery , this was also the topic of a large thread and many of us tested it to prove its worth in all situations.
As I stated in my post , my build is a good balance for survivability and damage , with 71% resist and 32% defense it is the same as a SOd Granite tank. And with Combustion, GFSC, QS and Burn you can easily do damage for Solo if you like. If you wanted to go Pyre drop the slots in Scorch for Fire blast and switch Burn to Fireball. Also, 3 slot health is good place for Numina +rec/+regen , it kicks in quite a bit and is noticeable.
For end game TFs like MSTF and ITFs its all about IO set bonuses and defense , if you 6 slot all attacks and shields you should be able to get your defenses up to 30+.
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, and I don't think you need Hasten. Most of your powers can recharge fine with good slotting, and IO set bonuses can help reduce this even further, without the end drain caused by Hasten.
[/ QUOTE ]
P.S. Hasten is extemely usefull for Healing Flames, taunt and attack recharge. I can get Healing Flames down to 14 seconds with Doctored Wounds, Hasten and global recharge, this is a very fast heal and allows you to 4 stack Toxic resist for 80%.
You also need more than 4 points of KB protection for AV's , 8 would be good ( I ran 12 because I am weird ), CJ is a good place for a Karma. Download my link from Page one and go to totals, that is a good across the board set of defenses for all situations. ( link below for screenshot )
Fire/Fire Defenses -
For fire you want to slot for +Def. This is my build, I tanked STF on Friday with a Bubbler and Emp. LR didn't even touch me with a base 71 resist and 32 melee defense. ( which is almost the same as a SO'd Granite ) .

Can't multiple KB attacks landing at once add together for a higher mag KB?
[/ QUOTE ]Yes, but they'd have to hit in the sam server tick, which is extremely unlikely.
With only one KB IO, you'll still get knocked around a bit, but it will be an uncommon occurrence. For regular enemies, I think it's limited to basically Fake Nemesis (who will also hit through the mag 8 of two IOs), and Storm Summoning Longbow bosses, which I think will stop with 2. (Note that while Storm Longbow can knock you over with Gale, Air Thorn Casters can't... they've got a weaker version of Gale)
Of course, there's also custom critters, I think a few AV/GMs, and Rikti Dropships. (Of course, Rikti Dropships can knock you around even if you've got strong mez protection)

Cabal witches can KB you through mag 8 also. My fire tank has 3 steadfasts and Mary in the final couple waves can KD me.
