Petrifying Gaze
I like it a lot and here's why, I have it slotted fully with Lock down it's a mag 3 hold plus when the proc fires thats another mag 2 plus fluffy adds his own Petrifying Gaze to add. Thats mag 6 hold mag 8 when the proc fires what do you think.
Edit>thats just from 1 application
I've taken it recently on my Bots/Dark who's around 24th or so and found it helpful. I haven't slotted it much at all but it still manages to mitigate a few attacks from minions and leuts so it makes me sweat less during combat (might annoy brutes you're teaming with though).
Can't see that as a bad thing.
I am trying to figure out what to slot it with in the future though...
Edit: No, I have not gone round the bed - I thought we were discussing Fearsome Stare.

[/ QUOTE ] are you crazy its the best i have a thug dark 50 and yes were not controllers or doms so a single hold dose nothing on boss or higher but with that ,fluffy and ur patron power hold i use soul storm..u can juggle states man in the air with those holds combined..same with a blaster or and other power..confuse.hold.imb, fear..if u stack them up they can work on anything...
once you also have the patron single target hold you can keep just about any mob up to a boss locked down
i dunno about cimeroran's though. they are hihgly resistant to controls. i havent taken any of my /darks there yet
with 2 holds plus hold from pets (brute on thugs or dark fluffy) and any procs you have a chance to hold any critter av or other wise

He means the fact that the Bruiser's Knockout Blow is a Mag 1 hold, if I'm translating correctly

[/ QUOTE ]Bruiser's KO Blow is mag 3, actually.
As to Petrifying Gaze:
It's one of the worst holds in the game. No damage, no secondary effect, poor duration/recharge ratio, single target.
On the other hand, it is a hold, and will take a lieutenant or minion out of the fight quickly. And it can be perma, with slotting. Additionally, it can stack with the Petrifying Gaze from Dark Servant, and from the hold in your patron pool.
It may be one of the worst holds in the game, but it is a hold.
I do admit, I wish it had a Defense Debuff. the combat spam for it claims that it lowers the target's defense, but it doesn't actually do so.

On my Bots/Dark I never took it.
With my build I had to choose between fearsome stare and petrifying gaze and I went with the -tohit that would hit the entire group and haven't regretted that decision yet (and given how much I actually love and use fearsome stare I can't say I will ever switch out of it).
I just don't really need hard control on this char. Everything is usually dead (even running relentless) before I would even bother trying to hold anything. What I did need was -kb, but that is neither here nor there.
Even if it was a great hold (which it's a pretty awful hold) I still wouldn't want it.
well i took it i dint need the slot for anything else i still have almost all the power..i took no travle power cuz as an mm i didnt think i needed it add i like the stacked hold it good for holding that annoying boss and sometimes eb/av that likes to one shot ur minions. i donr use it all the time but its there all the same
Are you at the level where you face Longbow Flamethrowers with Ignite? or the Spec Ops with AoE? ( or pretty much any AoE crazy group) I find it really helps and you wont need to use Provoke or TP Foe for that.
Taking PG on my Mercs/Dark enabled me to completly ignore AoE mobs, which sometimes insta kill your pets if your not fast enough on the GOTO's. All I do is Shadowfall within range of the spawn and PG the Flamethrower, then let your pets deal with the other 3-5 normal mobs.
With enough slotting PG is perma hold and if you take the Patron hold with slotting, you can hold bosses.
P.S. Both mine are 6 slotted with Lockdowns, I can consistently hold EB's.
yep thats the way to do it not evey power will be used all the time
I took it on my Zombie/Dark. Useful with the Dark Servant and the Lich spamming theirs.
With just you, the hold is ok, good for stopping an annoying LT or minion. But with the DS and Lich, you can lock down pretty much anything, if they use it at the same time, that is.

Yeah, pralytic poison was my main's solution to AoE happy mobs. Didn't help against scrapyarders though.

I guess I'm in the minority, but if had an aoe threat, I would just focus fire all of my debuffs and pets on it, and it would die before it did any damage. Once it was dead, I would switch to bg mode and proceed as normal.
Oh, I do focus fire on it, but it's better to focus fire on an aoe happy mob that can't act then one which can still throw it's grenades or burn patches and kill half your pets at once.

If you are not taking any attack power, then a well slotted Single Hold is very handy. Mag 3 is good enough to hold most minions/lieuts in this game.
If you plan on taking Patron hold, you can stack to hold a boss.
Is it considered a bad "hold" power but mag 3 is still good.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
Pet Gaze has such a bad rep. I don't know why people compare it to the holds from a "control" primary. It has the same duration/recharge ratio as the holds from trick arrow and Poison. They were designed to be less effective because they are in a debuff/buff set.
Pet gaze has 1/2 the recharge of any of the epic/patron holds with only slightly less duration.
If you compare the controller/dominator holds to any of the other holds in the game they make all of them look like garbage.
It is a reliable hold that with slotting and +rech can be stacked to hold bosses.
