Quote:I meant my own snark, sorry, the "out for blood" comment in my first post. And I was serious, too. I would have no problem with a business model which emphasised a specific business practice for early releases, but offered an eventual out if I were willing to trade enough time in return. In fact, if you look at the in-game Market, you'll find plenty of clear evidence that impatience sells, and it sells at a ridiculously high price.
Quote:Given that the "worth" of an item is unique to the person judging it, that assessment is valid for a given non-zero estimated worth for consumables, which I simply don't share.
Either way, I personally like everything that could potentially go into a Super Pack that 80 per is worthwhile, though I wouldn't be buying them like scratcher addicts do. Probably one hefty discounted box every month or two.
Quote:Just because they sell for 90 points a pop doesn't mean they're worth that much. Heck, because of the way they're consumed, they're practically without any worth at all. If they worked more like, say, the Experienced power, they'd be worth attaching a price tag to, at least, but even then, more than around 20 points each would be a rip-off. -
Quote:That would be cosmic relief.
- Miniature Galaxy (OK, that´s not really comical, but would sure look cool)

Quote:Snark aside, I think this would be the best route, while putting a new costume set into the super pack. Cycling costume sets through various methods of acquisition is a good way to make sure everyone who wants to buy a particular set can, and to make sure that everyone who likes a particular method of acquisition is rewarded for repeat business. As for making pack-exclusive costumes available through other means over the Paragon Store... Sell them. Simply delay the sets by six months from the time they show up in the gambling packs to the time they show up as a regular purchase and then price them either normal or double. That way, people who don't have the patience of a saint will be inclined to try and get the pieces they want early by gambling on them, and people like me who have ZERO patience for uncertain returns for my money will simply wait it out.
I think they are, but I also think the inspirations have value too. A few insps plus a few temp powers/reward merits plus a shiny is worth 80, even if individually none are worth more than 10. -
Quote:Windfalls and XP Boosters currently cost 90 apiece, best price. If they stay that way then the Super Packs are still worth it.Definite improvements, but I'm not getting my hopes up until the costume problem is fixed and we see the costs. 80 points remains way too much for a bunch of crap inspirations.
I'm pretty sure we're going to see more rioting over the uncertain costume exclusivity, though. You gave 'em an inch, Z, and they'll be out for blood. -

The enhancement boosters are very nice. And there's probably no need to save more than 3 tokens for whenever they cycle out the T9 stuff.

Yeah, given that the VIP club is exclusive to those who can pay $15/month, I don't think there's much room to be elitist.
-
It's another tiny little perk and a way of getting VIP in the freemiums' faces. "Be a part of this club!"
Of course, I prefer "Super-Powered" to "VIP," so I haven't voluntarily changed over. -
Quote:I remember them fussing with the way shields sat against the hand outside of beta, but that's about all I can recall.Serious question, no snark intended whatsoever: have the devs ever fixed a clipping issue? Have they ever gone back over a costume part or set other than to fix the most egregious errors and bugs? I would like to think they do, but I can't recall a specific instance.

The timing on this Shortpacked strip seems apropos, so I'll just leave it here.

Of course. Just because we like both sex and violence doesn't mean we don't mind getting something different than what we were told we were getting.

Quote:So I guess you missed Noble Savage's thread where he's trying to pin down exactly what it is we want.Well, this is what I was afraid of. Total over-reaction in response to player feedback instead of actually LISTENING to the comments and feedback. I guess they're trying to stuff someone's idea of "equality" down our throats by, ironically, doing away with all the female costume pieces and making us only use the male costume piece design from now on. Way to shoot for equality and fairness.

Quote:Convert to Premium = let the VIP subscription lapse.Maybe I'm misreading what you are writing, but I'm reading this as "at the end of the '6+1 month subscription special' on your newly created free account, you are then going to convert it to a Premium account." I want to ask to ensure I understand, but I thought the moment you dropped 400PP into a free account it automatically becomes premium, and it never goes back. Is that correct?

That is a fantastic post and I hope some good comes out of this thread.
The horrible thing is, I'm beginning to think that the recent angry mob isn't so much about gender neutrality as it is mismanaged expectations, like Sapphic Neko alluded to.
- Players have been dying for a good female jacket for a very long time. A lot of other things too, but that's a big one. They just want a set in which the female model gets a jacket.
- So here comes a set called Gunslinger. The "gunslinger" look, both in history and cinema, involves stuff like jackets and dusters for both men and women. Hey, this could be the chance for a female jacket! Hopes rise.
- Then the Gunslinger set is actually released. Hopes are crushed, and players are angry and disappointed and pissed about not getting a female jacket when their expectations for the set led them to believe there would be one.
I don't know what your production schedules are like, but there may be value in trying to come up with more sets that are more tightly linked. Like Marshal_Wagner says, you've got two distinct styles there. Splitting it into a Spacesuit set and a Jetsons-style set, each with its own narrow focus, would work very well, I think.
If that's not feasible, then go find someone in Marketing and punch them until they understand the importance of properly managing expectations.
Or just punch them. I find Marketing people usually could use a good punching. -
Quote:In fairness, I've found that most AV protection fouls up your computer so badly that it might as well be a virus in itself. Some time in early October something in the game changed so that the patch download process continuously runs afoul of my antivirus software and fails.
Customer Service's response? "Turn your antivirus protection off."
o.O
So yeah, I won't be on Beta any more. I'm willing to risk an hour or so for small updates but I'm not turning my AV protection off for a day to download the whole Beta client. -
Quote:Nonsense! Why, in my lineup, I have:(Its almost like outside of tights, your male hero has a choice between t-shirts and suits .awesome).
A robot in the Baron jacket and a wide-brimmed hat
A guy in Silver Age-style tights
A guy in biker leathers
A guy in a suit and trenchcoat
A guy in red and blue power armor
A guy in red and black power armor
A guy in red and gold power armor
A guy in purple and gold power armor
...
...You know what, I'll just agree.
Though really, I think that's more perception based on personal aesthetic preference. -
Yup. The set-it-and-forget-it aspect of the MarketOs is really attractive. I've got a couple sets of KC and a bunch of LotG pieces just waiting to go in my TW character. It'll be a nice change to have defense squared away as soon as I get the powers, rather than fussing with SOs and lowbie IOs throughout the levels.
-
Quote:I think that is a fantastic analogy, actually. It's clear to me that somebody in the art department gets this concept, otherwise the Fusionette/Fusion continuum would not have been so well maintained. Same concept. Apply it to costume packs.
We were expecting and wanted Fusionette/Fusion. Instead we got Fusionette/Faultline. -
That's an interesting way to misread what he said. "Fully tintable, with exactly 2 colors that you choose." You know, like every other costume part. Not just two colors period.
-
Well it makes sense in an abstract sense. Stalkers are stealthy ST damage. Titan Weapons is a big brawling AOE-centric set. It doesn't match the Stalker idiom very well.
But in reality, pro-Stalker players already feel like their AT is shafted, and missing out on a melee powerset just adds insult to injury. -
Quote:Yeah, that concerns me too. Sort of a "if you kids can't be nice then we just won't have a Christmas this year" sort of thing. I'm sure that's not how it was intended, but I guess we'll see how the, ah, gunslinger feedback gets taken for future sets."Zwill states that they will be starting to 'port over' male pieces to the female model rather than making female-only pieces with future costume sets from here on out."
This kind of sounds snarky to me. So the plan is to do away with female specific pieces altogether? -
Quote:I'm a sole point of anecdotal data, but I just have to mention that I basically completely stopped playing my Fire/Dev Blaster after leveling my Crab Spider. The Spider misses some utility that Devices provided, but it's basically Assault/Defense as you suggest, and there's just no need for me to go back to the Blaster. The Spider provides all the spawn wreckage I could ever want WITH personal defenses WITH team support WITH pets. The offensive power is less than a Blaster's, but the extra versatility and tools and mitigation it gets more than makes up for it.Also, people do like playing blasters, because I think people are attracted to playing something that is all-out offense, and because at lower levels blasters tend to be a more "active" archetype offensively. I wonder, though, if the Assault/Defense archetype was created as an epic archetype or something, how many people playing blasters it would steal away. Perhaps that is the best way to address the gap with blasters; not by changing blasters but by making a new archetype that addresses those issues, leaving blasters to be a legacy archetype that retains that original vulnerability. After all, lots of people still like to play blasters, including me. Even if its broken, it might be too late to really totally overhaul it.
