The first thing that occurs to me is to use your second or third build. Use frankenslotting and cheap sets to get high levels of Endurance Reduction and to rack up Recovery bonuses.
As for powers, I suggest taking Slash and Parry and delaying Hasten, as well as the entire Fighting pool. Grant Cover and Phalanx Fighting can be put off as well. -
Deleting the post doesn't really accomplish anything. For example, this is the first time I've seen it and now it's much more difficult to help.
Based on your post title, I suggest Rad/Sonic. They're pretty much best at everything, but if you have your heart set on Dark/Dark, then go for it. If "DD" means "damage dealer" you might be a bit disappointed by Dark/Dark, though. In fact, if you want to focus on being a damage dealer, you might want to look at Corruptors instead. -
I suggest /Dark. It doesn't have much Defense, but it has a boat-load of -ToHit. And all those other things.
-
I don't care for the way it acts, but I find the wolf VERY appropriate for the set.

Quote:You're making a lot of assumptions.Your absolutely correct.. If you cannot notice the horrendous endurance issues or the complete uselessness of Maneuvers then you don't understand the game mechanics or how to make a build.
Going back to Errant's first build, no - it isn't as good as it would be if concept weren't a concern and IOs would make it better, but it's not terrible. Recognizing his SO slotting as a perfectly fine way to slot SO enhancements doesn't say anything about my ability regarding the game.
Is Maneuvers a compelling power for him to have in an SO build? Not in my opinion, but it's still nice for teams. The Fighting pool? Not without IOs, nope. Given the constraints Errant placed upon the build, though, what would he put there instead?
Regarding Endurance, he'll be fine. Between Consume and all the End Red in his attacks, he's got nothing to worry about. Besides, he said he won't be running all of the toggles all of the time.
And only getting two or three powers off? Histrionics don't help.
Plainguy, your perspective is way out of whack and you're coming across as a jerk. Errant won't be soloing AVs or grinding through 4/8 missions with that build, but the build will succeed at what he wants to do with it. Instead of berating people because you've missed the point, you should either give him the constructive criticism he asked for or apologize and excuse yourself from the thread. -
Your first build looks like standard SO slotting to me. Does that mean I don't understand the game either?
In any case, I too imagine BR being a better fit. How vital are the laser swords? If you're willing to drop them, I think that between power customization and fist auras, /Elec or /Energy could look very appropriate.
Finally, I'm not certain that Aid Self is strictly necessary for soloing. I don't use it on my AR/Eng or my Fire/Fire, and your performance goals seem pretty forgiving. -
Regarding Heroic Le- er, Spring Attack, the ability to get through blocked doorways is worth the price of admission alone.
As for Energy Cloak, it looks cool when you fade into view just as you're about to smash someone. Besides, the only thing scarier than a one-man army coming for you is knowing that he's coming but not having any idea where the **** he is. -
Personally, I enjoy slotting Brawl with the Kinetic Combat proc and Boxing with the Stupefy proc. If I must fisticuff, I fisticuff for the lulz.

If your character's like a ninja then the best name is Passing Wind.
In other news, KM/Nin is quite good. I recommend looking into it. -

Ta da!
The upshot is that if someone says that you can't change their mind no matter what, stop wasting your time on them. :P
Also, I like the idea of raising damage caps in Incarnate content. Towards the end of Final Fantasy X you became able to pass the classic 9,999 damage cap - it was great at making you feel like your characters were *really* powerful. I doubt raising the damage caps in Incarnate content would have as dramatic an effect, but for me it'd be right up there with level shifts in terms of making the character feel cool. -

It's worth noting that your character on-screen fades in to visibility when you attack, as opposed to how Cloak of Darkness keeps its visual effect while you attack.

@Another_Fan
I suspect his melee attacks are there only as set mules. THB probably has a very specific attack chain in mind and everything else just supports it, which leads to power and slotting choices that may otherwise look odd. I think he'll be in melee range most of the time, but Hover is still useful for those times he won't want to be. Besides, with his Recovery, Combat Jumping doesn't provide a useful savings.
@THB
There are a few IOs I personally would like to see in there, but I don't see where to pull the slots from. Also, Flares does have a higher DPA than Fire Blast. Why FB? -
Now I know. However, I figured Soul was a given. :P
-
I don't have any experience with it, but I can easily imagine a Dark/Stone doing it. Mu bosses would be the big problem, but not an insurmountable one.
-
If you're okay with exchanging Flight for Jumping then I'd...
Fly -> Super Jump (Jump, Jump, WG)
Hover -> Combat Jumping (same slotting)
Focused Accuracy -> Acrobatics (End)
From there, you could drop the Steadfast KB from OS or the Zephyrs from CJ, or maybe a Jump from SJ. -
I don't know first-hand, but I hear that SS/Fire is tops for DPS. I imagine that SS provides the most DPS regardless of secondary, but if a combo edged it out then SS would be close behind.
This is predicated on expensive builds, of course. -
Of the three I'd make a Claws/Willpower.
When called on to tank, Willpower's weaknesses are difficulty with alphas and a weak taunt aura. Claws addresses both of those. -
Kinetic Combat proc in Brawl. Stupefy proc in Boxing.
Seriously, though, it might be worth considering putting a Winter's Gift IO in Fly. Then again, if something could make this build want to use Dark Regen on cooldown you might want all the speed you can get in Fly. -
One of the things I like about EA is how Entropic Aura takes care of my AoEs' Recharge for me. I build for the single-target chain that I want and just make sure my AoEs have the Accuracy, Damage, and Endurance they need since Entropic Aura will make those powers recharge more quickly the more I need them.

I don't have much to say about Elec/Fire, but you might get more responses if you use shorter forum exports, like so:

All the other info usually isn't necessary - if someone's eyes glaze over before they've gotten to the end of the post they probably won't answer. In fact, the data chunk alone is often enough.
It's also a good idea to talk a little bit about your goals and how you've worked towards them. Also raise concerns or questions you may have. You need to give people something to work with if you want them to play around with builds.
Here's an example from a post I made a couple of weeks ago:
Quote:I'm interested in running Incarnate content, soloing ITFs, general AV soloing, and taking down a damn Pylon for once, but I'm not particularly interested in setting any records. Build goals include:
Soft-capped Defense with a Parry.
Incarnate soft-capped with a Parry and a Luck.
Keeping set bonuses when Exemplared to 28.
Parry -> Disembowel -> Hack -> Headsplitter -> Hack attack chain.
I think this is infinitely sustainable if I turn off Grant Cover and Sprint, but I only looked at averaged out Endurance costs. The build's downsides for me are that it uses more Purples than I would care for, it doesn't have Tactics (Confuse Resist), the chance to hit +4s is lower than I'd like (level shift takes care of that, right?), and I would kinda liked to have Confront. -
I've been playing a Katana/EA Scrapper and a Claws/EA Brute. I don't have Energy Drain yet, but I find that hitting Energize can be so worth it that I don't mind the redraw. Also, it's not something that has to be hit particularly often and that not-particularly-often can be between spawns.
Another thing worth considering is that if you use the Vanguard weapons you can see the redraw not as putting your weapons away for no good reason, but rather as diverting the power to healing or draining. I don't have the Vanguard weapons on these guys yet, but honestly, even imagining that really does make the redraw far less obtrusive to me.
Why the two sets in particular? I don't care for Divine Avalanche's animation, so I wanted a character where I didn't feel like I *have* to take it, so for me that meant /EA or /SR, and I already have an /SR. I made the Claws/EA because the combo would look AMAZING and adding Knockdown to /EA's relatively well-layered mitigation should be amazing. -
I'm very much a roleplayer and I don't consider missions as in-character. Just because I did the STF on one character doesn't mean that I can't do it on another. Similarly, the fact that bunches of people have played through the Vahzilok Wasting Disease storyarc doesn't mean that Paragon City is saved from that threat dozens of times each day.
That said, as a roleplayer, I won't take options in tip missions that my character wouldn't; HOWEVER, if I have an OOG goal I'm trying to achieve, like getting Shadow Meld, I won't hesitate to ignore the IG ramifications of OOG mechanics.
As for our dear OP, if he doesn't want to use Shadow Meld that's his prerogative, regardless of the reason. I just don't want people to think that roleplayers (whether the OP is one or not) can't be reasonable about their power choices.
