Quote:I've played so many brutes..and man this thread makes me so sad. If you really want to gimp damage and recharge and pick up stupid things to slot like air supiriority or actually slotting boxing which does so little damage be my guest. The key to slotting a brute and making him not only a threat on damage but not a horrible end hog you need to slot your shields. Although you should be slotting your attacks with at least some end redux in order to fully keep the end cost to a minimum, your shields are consistantly using x amount of end per second so keeping those to a minimum is a must. All and all if you want to be like jo jo which I had to tank mobs for on a stoner be my guest, but since he purples out all his builds I'd suggest loling at this thread and moving on. Even if you get the end under control you'll spend so little time actually killing things with a bad attack chain and not enough damages slotted that its really not even worth playing a brute. You can not waste any end and slot end redux in brawl but seriously who wants to do no damage. Jo Jo, please don't advise people when you need the advising yourself. Ty!
Was this guy drunk when he wrote this? Did he pay to have Brutes 50'd in AE for hisself?
when I was new, I thought just like this. Swear to god, and I would cram those end red enhancers onto my toggles and go killing, sometimes with only one acc slot in my attacks, nothing else, just so I could max my resist/defense/end reductions in my secondaries. 9I have run lots and lots of Brutes) I have listened, I have experimented, and I am here to tell you. This guy is filled with crapola. It has started to emanate from his speaking orifice.
Here is how I do lowbie Brutes now, and here is how I recommend a new Brute playa does it. Figure out how many slots a particular attack power (primary power set) will have by your late 20s. Like on a major "signature" attack from your primary, probably six slotted by then, right? On a mid-level attack power, maybe 4 slotted by late 20s? Anyway, get an idea when you first start the toon. As soon as you get these powers, get those slots in there ASAP. And here is the real trick, one slot ACC, and ALL the rest of your slots "Endurance Reduction."
For your secondaries, at first, leave the inherent slot. If you want to put an End Red in your toggles as that one slot, good for you. But what is eating ALL your end as a lowbie Brute is your attacks.
Everyone can quit reading now. This is just for the numbskull I quoted. "ALL YOUR ENDURANCE IS BEING EATEN BY YOUR ATTACKS AS A LOWBIE BRUTE." -

Too true about comparisons. The game is about subtlety. Synergy between primaries/secondaries, and sets added to make your toon work your way. i have been experimenting with AR/Traps-Devices this week, comparing Blaster to Corruptor. Very similar, yet key differences. No mortar for Blaster, sad panda. But I have found he doesnt need it, and the trade off for having a stealth power in the set (without -move speed) is awesome. Other differences too, but that one little thing makes the toon work soooo much better. Find that in your numbers somewhere. Also, my Dark/Invul Brute (which according to "people in the know" I have gimped) works like a charm. Why? Because I ignored all standard advice and went after the buildout I wanted like a maniac. Put that into a spreadsheet.

you wish they'd get rid of redraw? sheesh, I started a Rifle/traps corr yesterday. You have to take web grenade at 1st level. It causes redraw. How stupid is that? It can fire from the gun. I swear, you can launch a grenade from a gun. I have seen it.

The way I get so much recharge is I was using 3 Purple sets, and a few LOTG +7.5% recharge, and another set or two that add recharge. I stripped these for my new monster (who now has 5 Purple sets, 5 LOTG, 5 sets that give 5% global recharge, and a total 112.5% recharge, no haste) that gives my Tanky Dark/Invul access to Dull Pain and a few other utility Brute powers (like filling my Blue Bar, attacking with big, slow rech attacks , wait, big fast rech attacks) that make life grand. But seriously, this crap is expensive. (although I think you can get LOTG 7.5 doing villain/rogue merits) But even with 0% recharge, you need Rage if you take Super Strength. Shield I am unsure of, I have run rarely, and only to 30-40. But I would talk to some real power players before I ducked a major power there. Shield was the flavor of the week for like 6 months a while back. That says something. Talk to some that swear by it.

I do not know much about Claws, but here is some data stolen from someone who spent way to much time devising attack chains:
CLAWS FU Focus Slash Swipe Strike Swipe TOTALS
Adjusted CAST 1.056 1.32 1.584 1.056 1.32 1.056 7.392
Adjusted END 5.478 4.791 3.856 2.045 2.921 2.045 21.136
Adjusted REC 6.028 4.494 3.371 1.194 2.247 1.194
Time to Next Cast -0.308
As far as increasing survivability, that is harder. I ran a Willpower Brute as my main for the last year. I built him for recharge. I used tough and weave, and I/O'd him, but with an eye towards damage and recharge. Actually he was sturdy, but not tanky. If you want to make this guy Tanky the traditional wisdom is to try to softcap Smash/Lethal Defense. This will cost a fair penny, and will tie up a lot of the direction of your build, but I understand it can be done.
My new main is a Dark/Invul (very tanky), I thought about a Claws/Will. If I was gonna do it, I would again go for massive recharge/damage, and maybe add Energy Mastery Epic set to get more healing going. With the extra End from that could even grab an extra Leadership toggle, (also do not forget combat jumping, the more toggles you run, the better life will seem) -
I'll be the 2nd to say "take rage"
Look, I was like you, my first 50 was a SS/Invul with poor slotting and bad, really bad end issues. So the crash on Rage not only robbed me of smash for 10 seconds, the damn blue bar dipped too. I hated it.
My last main was a SS/Will that was I/O'd to the max and double stacked Rage all the time on his own, and Triple stacked it while teaming with anybody with boosts. That's right 2-3 x Rage, 2-3 times the crash. And an amount of damage output that makes EBs and AVs cry.
If you do not want Rage, get a different primary, seriously. Take one that fits your play style better. Super Strength is a decent set, but is half gimped with Hand Clap (usually not taken) and Hurl Boulder (worst ranged attack on a brute, ever. the animation takes so long I go make coffee) Most Brutes do not take Taunt, and you are not taking Rage, so you are really halfway out of the set already. Get yourself something you like. -
Look up about 4 posts to what I wrote about slotting for Brutes pre 20/pre stamina/pre i19. Some of it will aplly after i19, but seriously, this is how to slot lowbie brutes. its all about identifying how many slots are gonna be on a primary power, and cramming end reducers into all but one of those slots. Fury will pump your damage, and Fury will not die as you take a knee allatime. gl

In trolling for data recently I thought I saw where the Devs wanted to make all 6 respecs available to any player. Not sure where I saw it, but 99% sure i didnt dream it. Anybody got info?
-
Funny, I enjoy respecs. the only thing I do not like about them is re sorting my power trays. But actually picking powers, deciding builds is way cool. Personal thing I guess. So the option to rewrite is always welcome. I am actually surprised they make it so difficult to do in the game. Limited respecs = less enjoyable characters/game experience. The more you can rewrite the work you already have done, the more you have the opportunity to enjoy it with less mistakes/worries/hassles.
-
Okay, 23% of the posts (this number is arrived at scientifically, follow this thread for data DATA_THREAD) lately have talked about waiting for i19 before beginning a build. Everyone knows there will be a free respec with i19, right? So the logic in waiting is.....
-
I do better with Doms (specially permadoms) cause I can lock down stuff 90% of the time. But I do not enjoy them as much. Too much planning/plotting, calculating. Lets face it, non tactic blasting is fun right up until death smacks you in the face.
-
Personally, I hate build up, cause I am used to Rage (2 min, heh), but seriously, you are about to get an earful from attack chain DPS gurus about how you're attack chain is barf. Now I am running a DM/Invul, and specifically geeked the "best" DM attack chain by gutting 2 primary attacks, but did so in a way that I replaced it with 2 different attacks. What is your plan?
-
The worst has to be Stone/Dark Armor: It will have end issues that will make you cry for your entire career. Best of luck.

I enjoy playing blasters randomly, cause I love the big damage. Unfortunately, I have the mentality of a brute. The term "alligator mouth with a hummingbird butt" comes to mind. I almost always try to bite off more than I can chew. So my main is always a brute lol. Plus, seriously, they are the best all around, and who does not love best. One of the few times I really enjoy running a blaster is with a working tanker. (or a taunting brute) Even better if fighting an EB or AV. The big guy gets the attention, and either does or does not do damage, and I sit at range and just hurl pain. Big monster dies, treasure for all. I love that. Unfortunately that's usually when the backup spawns on top of me and I faceplant. I need to make a blaster called dead man walking.

For Brute "stealth" runs of ghosting missions I take + stealth from flight or running, then use fly or temp jet pack. That gets you to the end of most missions or to the glowies with minimal irritation, and uses no powers. The +stealth on run can go in inherent run, and raptor packs are sold at GV. Ghetto, but it works.

It varies for me, at low levels I enjoy having a Tank on a redside team. My Brute can then just mop up/smash. At mid/high levels it is kind of irritating sometimes, cause the dude wants my agro, which i need. At very high levels, it is again nice to have a tank, thinking LRSF and such. Because there is plenty of agro to go around, and I hate taking all that hate and face planting. (Although with my new guy I have yet to be seriously challenged in standard play.)
Also, annoying enough, some tanks (throwing out 30% here, with no data whatsoever) do not want to tank, they want a Scranker. For the 3% (again, where do I get these numbers???) of Tankers who can afford the I/Os to butcher the tank build into a somewhat okay damage dealing machine, great. For the rest of them it is pathetic. And they steal agro doing this half axed tanking job. They usually do not take taunt, so they are a lame and deficient member of any team. I'm like, get a Brute, you want someone who can take and deal massive damage, they built it already, look around. -
seriously, you are constantly running with a kin, yet taking hasten. <blinks> Okay, to each their own.
-
Thanks. I knew there were people that had this stuff dialed....

Please. please? PLEASE! Is there an easy way? Some mish where you sit and heal other on a dumb npc for 17 hours? tell me I do not need to take aid other and randomly heal small damage to teammates over the next 7 years.....
-
I am probably jinxing myself. I have done his arc with 2 brutes, not a problem either time. And believe me, I am not the best at this game.
-
Ya, I built a new badger and started him in Praetoria just to get this badge a couple weeks ago. Popped him redside (cause I know it better), and paused on my trek to 50 just long enough to grab all my mayhem badges. Now I am working on accolades and mish specific badges while I throw together some vill merits, then heading to the wild Blue Yonder. My only question......How the heck does a brute (somewhat easily) get any healing badges???????
Pither is 45+, so does not need to be in the flashback system. Just confidently get through his missions without screwing up. -
Quote:Do I need a knockback Proc in Invulnerability? I always put 3 (all diff of course) in my dark armor toons, to get 12 pts protection. (I really hate going flying, one of the reasons I run Brutes.)
I don't think i see the Steadfast proc? You should put it in one of the resistance passive power. ( with 5 Lotg+7,5% and 5 full purples sets, don't tell me it's too costy =P)
I have a couple SS/Invul 50s. I don't recall ever having a problem with knockback. Okay, there was one time, on a LRSF, one of the signature heroes knocked my big blue butt across the podium like I was a 1st level, right out of the creation screen. But seriously, that is the only time I can remember an Invul toon being knocked back. And I just assumed his KB attack was buffed, he had a proc that fired, whatever. Any thoughts out there Invulnerabilty armor users?
Okay, started researching Procs this morning (still away from the game on holiday. Sitting here with a rum coffee and waking up lol. You meant the Defense 3% Proc. Thanks. Will get this as soon as I am back at the market.
BTW, anybody else get knocked on ther can by Posi and was surprised?
