  1. Welcome to the Jungle, we got fun and games. No way to know the truth. I spent 15 hours gaming on Sunday, just trials, got zip, nothing, nad. Ran with a Widow who did a hat trick (if to be believed), 3 very rares, one right after the other.

I do know that I got one very rare when they first came out. Unfortunately, it disappeared in some kinda salvage rollback. I sent a e-mail request. They say they are busy.

For me the trials are horrid. I am only running them on my main, and just want to complete the content and move on. I crafted 4 rares I had collected since it began into one very rare last night. 400 million. I am very frustrated. At this point I do not even mind the cash, I would pay almost anything to be done with these two godsforsaken missions. Unfortunately, I still need 10 rares. (or 3 very rares, and it seems the odds of a tanky tank getting one of those is, zip, nada, nil)

ROFLMAO no seriously. I have to go away and breath before I post this.

Heh, back. lol. no. Wait give me a sec.

whew. Okay. i have done nothing NOTHING except BAF and Lambda since i20 dropped (except for one weekly TF run). I spent 15 hours on them Sunday. I did not get a single very Rare Sunday. I am only running 1 character for 2011, and want to complete the trials so I can move on with badging for him. I had collected 4 rares over the week and spent 400 million to create 1 tier 4.

Encourage me to play the new content? The 2 trials i have run so many times my eyes are starting to go opaque? <takes off shoe> Step out here and say that again. Please.
  3. That explains one possible reason I am getting uncommon drops for fifteen hours gaminy yesterday. I am running a Tank running Void judgement, competeing with Widows running a insane damage Ion. I was on a League last night where a widow got 3 very rares in a row. I got uncommons throughout 15 hours gaming, with various commons, and once a table with just 10 threads.....

    Yeah for participation!

    Base for Sale

251? Where did the 1 come from?

Anyway, I checked out the other base, its sale price. To me the name seemed lame "Revolutionaters"? really? Reminds me of a toon wandering around Mercy, my wife saw the name and laughed about it for weeks "Flamesy Boy". But they had serious prestige and stuff. This is a very good starter base, with a great name. All TP beacons, etc. But I am unwilling to sell it cheap. Also, IMO, great name "Webcrawlers". I was hoping to get enough to buy a Glad +3Def. If someone has one of those and wants to trade I'll move out. GL and cyas in the cities.
  5. The first few days I got a couple very rares. Now, nothing but common and uncommon. I run a softcap Tank, and I actually try to Tank. My Tank is not a Scranker, he tanks, period. I also am trying to get incarnate abilities that debuff my enemies damage, and buff my teams defense. Yes, tanking harder. But, I cannot seem to get anywhere in the trials. I ran trials for 15 hours Sunday. I only received commons, uncommons, and once the table with either 10 threads or the inspiration! I am the main tank on almost every run I do. I did a master of Lambda attempt last night with 3 other tanks in the League, I was chosen to tank Marauder. We completed the mish, failed the Master (not enough debuffs), I got an uncommon.

You know, I think this whole thing is slightly.....uncommon.

Keep in mind that this is the only character I am playing. This is my 2011 toon I started mid/late January. I want to finish trials and start badging with him again. I have been doing nothing but trials since i20 dropped. (did one NoW TF last week, will do another Monday night) I have made progress, but yesterday was just stupid.

I want to get back to the rest of the game, badging, etc. What is with this spend 4 weeks just grinding 2 task forces constant to get the rewards?

    Base for Sale

I assume it is okay to sell a Base in this game? It was one I set up when I was running a Villain Epic Arch type (Crab). It did well for awhile, but I have another one I built on the same server (redside freedom)

Anyways, it has accumulated 10,400,000 prestige, and is set up and running.

The name of the SG is Webcrawlers. (Arachnos anyone? lol)

Yeah, there re some great binds out there. I do not use them, but I know some great ones exist. Not sure if there is one that will pick the baddest guys out of any group however. This is where old school experience helps. Obviously, if you are fighting an AV, thats your target. However, with multiple AVs many times the team leader has a order of killing, and a way to get the pull/killing done. With other groups you just learn it. Freaks, go for the big Tankbusters (easy one). But every group has stuff like that, you just learn your enemies and go for it. On the ITF in Cimerora it gets a little dicier, everybody sorta looks like everybody else, and most of them are mean. I generally try to get in first, hit the groups with a couple AoEs and then taunt whatever is closest. If i was way before team I can herd them a bit, or if the team lands on them hard right after that its generally a matter of spamming Aoes and taunting what is left.

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Defense

So I have a brandy dandy new Ice Defense, and his single target buffs are Defense against S/L/Melee, then E/N/Rng/AOE.

His AoE buff is a stealth + Melee/Rng/AOE defense.

So lets say, for arguement sake, that I'm buffing someone with 25% S/L/Melee from his single target, and 5% Melee/Range/AOE from my AOE buff.

    So his totals are:

    25% Smashing/Lethal
    30% Melee
    5% Range, AOE

    Correct?

Now, someone punches him. Thats tagged with a smashing damage type, and melee positional type. His 'Defense' will be calculated as 30%, since it uses the highest one. It will NOT be 55%, because the 'Smashing' and 'Melee' two don't stack.

    Right? .

Also, I guess theres no difference in enhancement choices, because +defense buffs everything (Positional vs. Typed) the same.

Assuming that you're playing a set that has no inherent defense, or has some to both typed and positional defense, (which is true of Dark's Cloak of Darkness) there are a couple of advantages to typed defense. One is that S/L damage is a much larger proportion of the total damage in the game than melee. So if you can only or are only going to increase one position or pair of types, then S/L will be more worthwhile. Also, typed defense bonuses like S/L as a rule require fewer enhancements in a set; 3-4 is most common compared to 5 or 6 for positional bonuses.

On the other hand, if you can get melee/ranged/AoE to the soft-cap, it will cover the vast majority of attacks in the game. Soft-capping S/L/E/NE/F/C defense will still leave you vulnerable to pure Psi and Toxic attacks. Psi and Toxic damage are very rare, but still, one advantage of positional defense is that most of those attacks will be covered.

    Hope that helps!

EDIT: Regarding the problem you're having with defense bonuses in Mid's; most likely you've hit the "rule of 5" for 3.75% bonuses. Check the "Sets and Bonuses" window to be sure. If that's not it, post your build and we can probably figure out what's causing it.
    http://tinyurl.com/2axgc48 - great defense link.

here is some things i found on the boards that might help. Keep in mind once you hit the i20 trials the caps go up to some stupid number like 60-70%. But up until then 45% will get you by for anybody but tanking Lord Recluse and such. I know I tossed 45% out there casually, but it's a tough number, and used to be the gold standard.

    Taunt Question

Yep, Big Boss Eyepatch. My SS Aoe comes in late, Footstomp at 38. But it is a godsend. Large area. Knockdown. Really irritates the minions. Plus, wailing on their boss does seem to put a little worry in their eyes. I also use AoEs from my Epic Pools, depending on build. They are great for lobbing at a bunch of minions. Again, tanks are not trying to damage with any of these, just aggravate the crap outta stuff. Your team is your sword, keep the shield (your ability to hold agro) pointed at the biggest threats, anything else is gravy.

    Taunt Question

I am running a Willpower Tank. Worst Taunt Aura in the game. I get laughed at by all the other tanks. Luckily, i have huge def numbers, so mosta that crap misses me.

Seriously tho, without running down all the math, levels, adds and crap (Cause i dont have it memorized, and dont wanna research it.) Taunt hits 5. Your Aoes and Auras hit what they hit. You need to attack to hold agro. The meaner the opponent, the faster they will shake off agro and go for the blaster. I have crap for agggravation working for me, so I try harder. I get right in the big guys face, Taunt, and hit with my biggest attack. My best attack is of course to lead with tier 1 for Bruising and then hit the big attack, BUT I do not do this in a hot fight. Too F-ing busy. With Taunt and a big hit I let the main guy know i am there. Also, I use my Aoes to hit as many minions as possible, so they are agro'd towards me, at least some. Just keep taunting the main guy every time it comes up. DO NOT depend on it working 51 seconds or whatever. An AV can shrug that off like a 1000 pt attack. Keep in their face. If you can keep the meanest things attention your team will have your back, and they should be able to handle minions, Lts, bosses, and the occasional EB. Stay in the AVs grill. You will keep the agro. If you notice a blaster getting taken down by the "I eat Blasters" Boss while you tank the AV, sure, try to spare a taunt to throw that way. But it is secondary job for you. The primary rule for scrappers and blasters around a good tank is this one "You peel it off, and it is yours, kill it." The primary rule for Tanks is "Stay on the AV", with everything you got.

If your team is very mannerly and professional (or just lazy) you can herd your 16 up into a tight little crowd and then they can come in and start wailing. This rarely happens. So, jump in fast, get the big guys attention, and get to work.

If you are not dealing with a AV but an EB, all hold true, just scale down. You tank the EB, they do their work. If only a Boss, Same. If you need to tank an Lt. for your team. Well, I got nothing.

  13. the problem with any zone is going to be the same as with RWZ1, 2, 3, 4, 5.... which one are you in? Any zone quickly fills to capacity on a hot server. I borrow from everyone's good ideas. I think every character should get a teleport power that takes them to a hallway. The hallway would be considered neutral territory, and therefore once in the hallway you could be invited to trials by players from the other side of the law. Once you join you could move down the hallway and enter a zone set up specifically for one League. Basically a temporary base for just that League. It could look like a staging area hangar, or this artistic looking areas you guys mention. But this way no more members will be in it than are in the league.

There should also be doors in Pocket D and Ouroboros that lead directly to your Leagues staging area. Possibly also in Cim & RWZ. The staging area should also have at least one of the auto-doc inspiration/simple store things for quick replenishment/dumping junk when doing multiple runs.
  14. Lambdas have been going much better than last week when I was complaining so vociferously I almost got banned from the boards. Yet I too am in the position of having NEVER been on a Lambda where at least one of the acid temps was not used. I have been doing nothing but trials since they came out, nothing. Wait, I did one notice of the well TF last week. Other than that, just trials. And not one single time have all 10 acids been used outside. Yes, we collect them all. Yes, we beg. Yes, we give instructions, Yes, yes we do yell. No matter. We are always missing at least one, sometimes more. Maybe, in fact, the game is not awarding them all. Whatever the reason, this needs a fix. Which, if it is anything like "please fix the lag in ITF valley". Well, I'll stop now before they reconsider banning me.
  15. I have run a few SGs. I started a villain SG on Liberty, made it to the top 100 SGs on the server. Sigh. To think i did that the hard way. anyways, have run a few since then. I recently popped over to Virtue for a new concept toon I am running for all of 2011. I joined a "happening SG" and indded it was busy. However, teaming with SG mates was rare, and in truth I knew no one. So after earning them over 700,000 prestige I quit. And started my own SG. Wow, that closet is small when you first walk in. I knew that I did not want to recruit, and could really offer the Virtue community nothing by way of SG support, teams, scheduled activities, etc. So I spent a little over 2.5 billion buying prestige. I now have just shy of 5 million prestige. The base has teleporters to all zones (tons of badges in that too), some storage stuff, basics, you know. Best thing - I am the only one in my SG. Message of the day - Have fun today.

GL with whatever SG you are in, GL with your prestige worries, and GL with your hunting. But most of all - Have Fun Today!
  16. I am running one Tank all of 2011, started in January. May end early if I get over 1000 badges. Currently into my second week of trials, creeping towards 5 tier 4s. Anyways, I am looking at Brute or Blaster as my next main. I have traditionally been a Brute player. But if we got Dark Blast on blaster, I could see me going there. Big challenge, but way cool. Currently the only Blast power I come close to loving is Energy, and, well, knockback. I feel both gipped that the secondary adds nothing against high end content, and frustrated that during low end stuff my team hates me. Even though I have learned the uses of KB, I would strip it from Energy if I could, for just about any other secondary effect. But conceptually it is just easy to get behind an energy blaster and make a character. Same with Dark Blast. I could make a character that uses Dark Blast energy up every day and not run out of concept ideas for months.
  17. Last night did a series of BAFs with a team leader who wanted both AVs on the helipad. Worked like a charm, and the leader says everyone gets better Incarnate exp that way. No idea, I am working on my tier 4s. But I do know this, We mowed those spawns like ringing a bell. Whenever the timer clocked down you shoulda seen the AoEs and Nukes pop. We never broke stride from killing the AVs either.

Have a hammer with the same things circling the hammer head, either have it double headed/mirror image, or or put some other tech looking thing on the back end. Make part of it always steel, other 2 parts colorable. If they could get any of that glowy (part of the colorable) aura like from shield or broadsword, perfect. Maybe on the hammer head, like its got rows of energy chargers (the piston looking things from the boots) around the head and a forcefield it hits with? I could dummy up a drawing of it, but I actually have no way to scan it into the comp lol. All that art training and no way to show you what I mean, argh.

Not an expert on Kirby's work, but a fan nonetheless. To me it does not seem Kirby-esque at all. Kirby (to me) seems to go for simplified iconography. again, maybe I am only looking at his work in standardized production 4 color comics, and you have a greater source/understanding for more images of his art that are more complex. The helmets, gear, shields (like Cap's) all seem to be very simplified. Look at the vehicles in his comics, hot rods, space cycles. These have the most opportunity for complexity. Yet consistently in the images I study I see a drive for simplification.

The tech War Mace goes out of it's way to be complicated in a very small area. To me this is the opposite of Kirby-esque. In my opinion.
  20. Pet cutomization. Either full pet customization (costumes, etc.) - leaving powers exactly as is. OR allow option for any pet to be generic'd to a standard person or (*best) little glowing ball of light. Again-not affect the powers at all. You coose ninjas, your little gloweing balls do ninja stuff, you choose zombies, balls of light attack like zombies, robots, etc. this includes vet pets and Incarnate pets. This will not affect game balance, because it will alter not a single attack. Although with balls of light, you may want to dial all attack animations into either rays, a pulsing glow from the ball, or nothing.

The reason behind this - Unless you are deep into having your character have a backstory that fits deeply into CoH history (in other words, if you got pets, by definition you are a local yokel, not a extradimensional traveler) then it looks very weird. "Hi, I am a Necromancer from Arcanaville, which has zombies created with electromechanical parts. I know that my pets here look like grave knights, lichs, a strange little robot, and a seer, but really, trust me, they are all zombies created with electro-mechanical life"

I recommend this though I have never ran a Mastermind. And i never will as long as pet customization is the way it is - nonexistent. It kinda bothers me that vet and incarnate pets mark you as deeply entrenched in local political battles.

    Lore for tankers

I also hate pets in the city, if that is what you are saying. I f we could customize them, we could start a dialogue. Absolutely none of them fit my character concept. I would enjoy an option for just 2 glowing balls of light. In fact, i would run a MM finally if I could either customize pets or just get light orbs. With either, I could actually design a backstory instead of owning the ones the pets force you into.

Enough of my rant. I took seers, the least obtrusive (not by much) they do Psi-generally better. And I am going for the branch with the unkillable pet, the other always dies where tanks tread.
  22. The look of the Tech shield is awesome, they hit that sucker outta the park. Also, Tech Broadsword, Awesome. -(Not Available to Tanks) So, why does the Tech War Mace look like glowing rebar put together by a drunk welder?
  23. you're right, I saw that thread afterwards. Mine is slightly simpler. A vendor wouldn't hurt tho, like a simple auto-doc vendor from bases. Also, all players should get the temp travel to league staging area power, not just 50s. The hangup I see to both solutions is being able to invite to a League from intermingled teams. So, someone will need to get to a neutral zone to be invited, or maybe (light bulb moment...)

DRUM ROLL PLEASE>>>> The temp power takes you to a staging area, generic, hallway. from there you can be invited to your league, and move down the hall and into the door where you go to league staging area for your league to meet your league mates.

TA Da DA DA DAAAH Da Da DAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  24. We all know about crowding in RWZ1, 2, 3, 4, etc. as leagues set up. Why not give every player in the game a power like Pocket D pass, or vet base teleporter? the power would be good only for teleporting to a "staging area" base that is only used by that league. In case there is any difficulties, also have the staging area door accessible from RWZ and Pocket D, maybe Midnighter Club and Ouroboros too just to make it easy. The staging are base would be bare bones, pretty much a simple area with a few decorations (very few) so that it loads fast and can just be used for getting everyone ready for the trial. A military cargo hanger with a few shuttles prepping for launch might fit the theme.
  25. I got a few good tables the first two days I ran. (Only running one tanker). Ever since then, and I run a LOT of trials, I feel like Charlie Brown. I look down in my sack and all I see is a rock. It's going to takee a lot of rocks to tier 4 my abilities, and that is frustrating. I mean, to craft an exotic Isotope is 100 threads, plus 5 common (basically another 100 threads) plus 100 mil. I need two of those. And that is just a little of what I need to get where I am going. Yet everytime I finish a trial....common, or uncommon maybe/sometimes. Gets old fast. How many trials do you have to do to get a rare? Just tell me. If it is based on "Adding value to the team" i know I am not the best tank out there, but I work hard to be. But I add squat damage and little buffs to my team. I am built to tank, even my Incarnate abilities buff teammates and debuff enemies rather than go for damage exclusively. So, if they base it on how much damage you add or something like that, it explains the commons non stop.
