Okay, I have tried to stay out of the "I don't have the right number of tokens thread" The same way I 90% avoid the consignment system in here, except the really simple stuff. I do accounting and auctions for a living, and I desperately do not want those issues in my gaming life.
However.... Last night I bought 1200 Paragon Points so I could get the Street Justice set. Successfully did that, and then checked for my reward token. Nothing.
I have read a couple places that for every 1200 Paragon Points you buy you get one token. THis is not my first buy of Paragon Points, done it (mostly 400 pts at a time) 4 or 5 times. I do not keep track of if I should get a reward token. But, from what i understand when you buy 1200 you should definitely get a token.
Am I misunderstanding the reward system? Is it not every 1200 Paragon Point buy for 1 reward token?
Is there a delay in the reward of this? Next day? End of the Month? End of your billing cycle? Third Tuesday in August except if its sunny, then its the first Wednesday in March? Is it bugged currently? -
I am looking for ideas for a Street Justice character (bought the set last night...) I have run SS Brutes for a long time, and could not find a Scrapper set I loved (I got issues, I despise redraw, I dont like certain graphics on other sets, etc.) So, I just had to see if this was gonna be my other melee set. When not on SS I tend to run Dark. I don't love the attacks, but I absolutely love the power synergies that can happen.
A few months ago I stripped a softcapped (to all but Psi I think) Tank. Will/SS. I never used the parts, they are sitting in a base. Would the build mostly just slap down on top of a Street Justice/Willpower and successfully softcap that?
Or is there another armor I should consider if I was going to softcap a Street Justice? Invulnerability I think is easier, plus had def debuff res, but I worry about End issues. (I would love to use Regen, but I suspect that is very very hard to softcap?)
Or should I go a completely different route and build a huge recharge build and make a Street Justice / Regen? I know a ton of Rech works very well for Regen. Truly, what set doesnt benefit from Rech? lol Does Rech work particularly well with Street Justice as well? -
Thx Father Xmas (and everyone). Looks like my budget for this is around $300.00 for the power upgrade and card.
My last question is should I take it down to a comp tech I know, or try to do it myself? I have never worked on comps much. To give you an idea of my technical level I recently had to put a new battery on my KORG A1 effects processor. I got it out of the rack, cracked the box, found the battery. Played around with it for about 1/2 hour (desperately trying to figure it out and not apply to much force and break it). I gave up, took it to my friend who is an electrical engineer (and always busy). He asks me 1) is it here (yes) 2) is it already open? (yes!) He walk over to it, touches the battery with his finger, pops it out, puts the new one in. I know a local comp tech I trust, but he has a 'real business'. Prob charge me $50.00 or so to do this. -
What power sets for Scrappers come right to mind when the adjective Nasty is used?
-
Thx to everyone helping me muddle through this. I just spent half hour on the HP website. How can you refine a 1,100 results search and get 80.000+ results? Argh...
Anyways, (again, at work) I think this is the thing I got, though less sure than the link posted above (which I'm like 99.9% sure is my PC)
But I found this on HP, and if so it says 250W.

I *think *(I'm at work) that looks exactly like my system. Bought the whole package at WallyMarticus for $700.00. I know you geeks could build 3 times the machine for half the price, but I takes what I can talk the wife into. (this is quite a step up from the middle of the road Dell that was 6 years old...)
i am pretty happy with it. I will be ecstatic with it if I can get a card onto it that will run Ultra and do so well for a couple years. -
Quote:I know squat about comps, though I am decent with certain programs. One of the reasons my wife chose this model is a tech head at her work told her it was expandable, whereas the other model we were looking at was all integrated. So lets hope so heh, or I will be playing on this beast for quite some time the way it is. No brand preference at all, just want something that will reliably run CoH in Ultra. I like I Trials, etc, for the treasure. That of course means heavy graphics.First thing to ask is "are you sure a discreet graphics card will fit?"
I haven't been up on the pre-built, brand name, computers for a while... But I think they have gotten better about that.
If the answer is yes, the next question is "do you have a brand preference?" (AMD/ATI, or nVidia)
Depending on your budget, we can narrow in on the best card for you.
Those two links show cards in the 175-180 range, which seems about in my budget. I could maybe go 250.00 if the extra 60 bucks is a giant increase in quality and not a mere slide up. Or if that 60 bucks represents whether or not the thing will run next years bells and whistles. -
I want to upgrade the graphics card for my new comp. I want to get something reasonable, but that will also run the game in Ultra mode without any problems.
The rig is: HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 11 650 quad 8GB DDR3 w/ ATI Radeon 4200 and the monitor is HP 2311x
Any suggestions for a nice card to throw in? -
Yes, I'm thinking a blend is probably the wisest thing. With the tier 4 damage Alpha slot I will be pushing great numbers. I will throw at least one or two purple sets, just cause I love them. Then maybe slap some defense on here and there if it fits well. Take hasten so Drain psyche pops up more often. I need to start working on a mids build myself. Still trying to decide if I like this guy, and I am thinking I do. So very tired of grinding on Brutes, and never quite doing the damage I wanted to do. Concept is huge for me, and I have one I really like. Wish flame worked for me, but it just doesnt.
-
Quote:The thing is, you practically have to try to end up with no defense bonuses if you're bothering with sets at all. Lornac's build is workable I'm sure but it forsakes slotting the sixth pieces of obliteration and sting of the manticore, for instance, simply to avoid getting the defense bonuses from what I can gather. Almost any blaster combination will get some defense just from slotting sets that play to its strengths.
So yeah, if you want to explicitly avoid defense that's an option, and I guess I can see how a concept could call for it. Another option is to just pick up some defense where it's convenient. You don't have to try to softcap, just having ten-ish percent defense to a position or three will be a substantial improvement to your overall survivability over time. Like if you have tough, body armor or temporary invulnerability, why not use one of the slots for a steadfast? They're easy to get and have a huge impact on your build for just one slot, including the default slot if you don't plan to run the toggle.
It's not that not having defense makes a blaster unplayable, as blasters are perfectly playable with SOs which offer no bonuses at all. If you're going to use IOs, though, why not make use of one of the strongest, most easily attainable bonuses?
Oh, no. Yeah, no. What i meant was is it possible to play through the big task forces and itrials without attempting to build a softcap. I throw a Glad Proc 3% and any other efficient tricks I can get onto the thing. I was just wondering if throwing 5 purple sets and a ton of other recharge sets onto the thing, then taking the Alpha Damage would even be playable. But sure, I will not try to avoid defense. -
A lot of thoughtful answers. Thanks. Stuck at 39 right now, but still loving the concept/character. For me the only thing I do not like is the closing to melee for Drain Psyche, but it is so worth it. Also, I am learning 1 mob is enough to really help, and if there really are tons of enemies I just try to get over to the brute or tank before cutting loose with it. I'm playing an SO'd build right now, and am indeed using many of the agro management tricks mentioned. I hang back and watch the action. When things go south I almost always start unloading rather than running (my Doms favorite backup plan) and surprisingly the success rate is high. The heal in Dark is wicked nice. The cones are different sizes, so yeah thats awkward. I have used Range modifiers to change the lengths to bettter match, but if/when I/O'd that will go away I think. I am using stealth pool, and want that in my final build. Also using TP (Teammate, enemy, LR) Pretty sure I want those as well. Teammate for TFs, enemy for laughs (and stuck mobs ), and the LR TP is sure nice blueside. I dont have regular TP cause I never liked it. In missions its rarely useful (especially with stealth) and for travel its annoying. Also, have hover, and thats a keeper. For map crawling I have rocket board and 1-3 temp travels at any one time.
It's late, I'll open up the builds tomorrow, thanks for posting them. I have to start thinking in terms of incarnate powers as well. -
I have been "shopping for a blaster" and hope that I am zeroing in on my choice. Right now Dark/mental is in first for me.
I am now starting to think about builds for him. I saw a high defense build in the current dark/MM thread, its pretty nice. It looks at first glance like an end hog, but not sure. But I got to thinking, maybe I shouldnt build for defense, but just moah damage....
Has anyone run a lot of Blasters at 50, and is that a viable choice, or just silly? If it becomes my main I will be lots and lots of taskforces at 50, Itrials, etc. Or should I really at least softcap to range to shake 90% of the crap that will come my way? When i ran my softcap tank, it was like night and day between a decent build and softcap. i would never have a main Tank not softcapped now, and most of my Brute strategies are softcap ones. But, with Blasters, just being able to lay out the pain, is that a build strategy used for late game play? -
I love me a cone, seriously. Lots of fun. However,....aiming them. There is nothing like having a hardened boss in the exact right spot with teeming minions on each side, front and back. A neverending chain of cones melting everything around them, while whittling away at the health meter. But when that is not the case, the boss is off center, or the alignment is just off enough (due to walls etc) to where you know its way un-optimal to throw it. I hates that. Worse, chaining cones on a Lt and somebody (evil teammates) blast them. Your next cone goes to some lonely minion off to your left. Argh! The freaking worst.
2 questions. 1) Is there a way to just align the danged things based on character orientation? 2) Is there a way to get the Devs to align the things based on character orientation?
Seriously, this is my only problem with cones, other than that, my very very favorite blaster atack. (I really don't like Blapping... Having run Brutes for years I just dont wanna be in the moshpit while that squishy. If I did, my Pimped SS/Fire/Mu Brute is a ghetto PBAoE blaster that cannot die, and if he does he explodes and comes back atcha) -
I played this game for 4 years on a mid range Dell (that was 2 years old when I started the game) I had to increase the Ram to 2 to even get the missions to load, but that was the only change I made. I played that way for four years, horrid machine, no problems like the above mentioned.
Happily I just moved to a new machine, no screamer, but quad processing beats snot outta the old paperweight.
I did try to throw the new box in ultra (even though the techies said dont lol) and that created lag.
Also tried to increase the screen to max, since that was what the box on my display said was optimal. Then even walking around my screen lagged. I dialed it back to half that resolution, and it was fine. I dialed it down a little more over the weekend, but I am still searching for the perfect fit for my monitor. But no lag unless I max it. Plus, with a 23 inch monitor the max resolution cause the buttons to shrink to nothing, and it feels like my character is walking around on a wide screen TV lol. i guess some folks like that, but i been used to playing while staring at a very small area not covered by league boxes, combat tray, insp, map, target, level/status bar... So, with resolution dialed down I still have way more viewable area, and I dont feel lost. ...and no lag.
PS I am also using a new HP Pavilion. With the DVI cable. The monitor says to dial up the resolution. DO NOT DO IT. That is causing your lag. -
Okay, I have been trying out new Blasters since I decided to Blast this year. 50'd (yet another) NrG/NrG earlier in the month, started working on a Fire/Nrg,and saw this thread. Started a Dark/Mental, and have gotten to 36 with some steady grinding. (Had company this weekend or I think I coulda 50'd) Holy Cone attacks! The only thing I do not like about it is closing to melee range for Drain Psyche. But it is so powerful that it has to be done, and 98% time the agro never reaches me for that offense. I personally like cones, and the attack chain is good. Also, having some KB in the set is something i like, it can be great mitigation. Not having KB be the only mitigation is also appreciated. This may be my new main, I have been grabbing the bank badges as I level, just in case I keep it.
-
It has 8 for ram. Your technospeak leave poor Blue confused lol. I understand you, but the details are fuzzy. So, if I pop it one over the middle, Ultra goes back on? But at middle on the slider Ultra is off, but then I cn partially turn it on using the other switch?
I will be getting a graphics card upgrade, since I want this machine to run this game at a pretty high setting with no problems.
It is a HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 11 650 quad 8GB DDR3 w/ ATI Radeon 4200
monitor is HP 2311x -
Not sure if this changed but I used to "leech" a lot on AE farms. Door sitting, and sometimes paying a nice bit of coin for it. Capped tickets evertime. havent done it in a while, but it was very regular 6 months ago. I have found other more active ways to level thru some of the doldrum periods, and I actually prefer to play my toons (shock!0. But back when I was 50-ing designs to test them I used the AE farming a lot, and that was my experience.

For like 3 days running the new sewer trial ("Boredom from Below"-I actually like it, but can't resist heh) a mob was always getting stuck in the same spot in the fight right before the boss that must be killed before minions. I mean every time. Haven't seen it happen for a week now. Not sure if it was fixed (if it even can be) or just on teams doing a lot less KB.
-
I think it's longer than that. it is easy to check in game. look at the details on the power. For some reason I think it's either between 5-15 min. I craft one for a few of my characters as panic buttons, but rarely use it. Either dead too fast or figure another way. Does that mean I'm playing better lol?

they were standing under Atlas statue. I walked up (2nd level!) and made a couple brief statements. Can't remember the exact wording. "Hello, how are you folks doing?" in local. Also, in broadcast "(( new RP toon lf RP SG))" After trying a couple softballs I got the hint that no RP would be happening.
Also, I have heard rumors Pocket D is just a graphic RP environment. Not sure if that's true, but definitely not hat I'm in the cities for. So, other than Atlas not sure where to try. I've been working on character concepts last couple days, and getting a new comp, so haven't tried RP again yet. I'll probably poke around Virtue server board and see what i can find. -
Okay, I ended up getting the ATI Radeon HD 4200 rig. My wife got the deciding vote. The brightside is the thing was reasonably priced and came with a 23" monitor, although widescreen. Its an HP rig, and i am already planning the upgrades. The two upgrades I plan are RAM (has 8) and a new graphics card.
But for a month or two (at least, holidays sigh) I will be running as it sits. It is a major upgrade from my six year old midgrade Dell, which barely ran the game. Still, I am having some dificulties with it.
First, I set it to the resolution the monitor said performed optimally. Oops, could barely walk. dialed that back, But I think I am still on the wrong setting.
I do not have Ultra on, unsure what any of my settings should be. Honestly, compared to what I was on, the game feels Ultra to me right now anyways.
For this monitor and graphics card, if I am reading the below correctly I should be at 1k x 768? (Is that right for a 23" widescreen?) What are setting should I roll with. The more precise an answer the better, I barely speak tech. Thanks.
Quote:If you are talking about the integrated graphics on the AMD 785G desktop chipset, found in some store bought PCs like HP, it's surprisingly okay as long as you don't over do it graphic settings wise.
My folks have one in their HP quad core and it can run the game (no ultra mode, shadows as blobs) at 1k x 768 in a window with 0xAA, 4xAF at around 25fps blueside, faster inside indoor missions. That's with the graphics settings slider in the middle with DoF and bloom turned off and textures settings at max.
You can get UM reflections to work with a minor hit in frame rate but hard shadows, AO shadows or AA will kill performance totally.
I assume the laptop version is similar. -
Wasn't a pirate last night. Gotta get that rolling someday. hmmm. Dual pistols Blaster/ Plus, i was off way before server maintenance.
I'll have to try again, maybe practice my secret handshakes lol. -
Quote:Hrm. Wow, as a new hero in Atlas, especially amongst RPers, is it really just walk up, and stand there. And stay shut up, and hope someone talks to you first?...as opposed to them being rude by butting into someone else's conversation at random?
wow, I am re-thinking this whole mebbe I should look at the roleplay aspect of the game thingy. -
How would this rig do with City of X?

Quote:You're quite right, I'm looking at a desktop HP. Does this last sentence mean it will run Ultra on a low setting? what is AO and AA, and will this thing tank in incarnate trials? You can get UM reflections to work with a minor hit in frame rate but hard shadows, AO shadows or AA will kill performance totally.
The other machine I'm looking at is probably better:
