Dark/MM viable?

After taking some time off, I've came back and decided to make a new blaster. A Dark/MM combo seems very powerful in regards to damage output and survivability. Love to hear from people who have already made one.

Mine's still on SO level but I love having a 3-cone attack chain and a good 3-single attack chain before level 20, and they recharge quite fast for a SO toon. Even the hold does respectable damage (and in three dots, not 'forever' like the tier 1 immobs), and with life Drain and Drain Psyche you'll be very survivable. Since I never have to be in melee except for a DP refill (and PSW later on), only melee power I took was TK Thrust but I don't think I'll need it later for survivability unless I want to slot if for a set mule like a kinetic crash.

It's been the ideal blaster combo for me because I hate 'all I do is damage' toons. Well with DP's -regen it might even be able to solo AVs since it's the only dark blast set with a good ST chain (I don't solo AVs, but it mighht be a good choice especially since you have both DP for regen/recov to yourself and a self-heal in Life Drain). And soloing Av's or not, I'm guessing it might be the most survivable blaster combo because of those powers not to mention dark's -tohit.

Damage feels very solid to me, not 'OMG FIAR' but also not below any good set should be imo, like Dual Pistols which I can only play on a Corr, I just don't get the blaster 'wow I kill fast' feeling with DP.

I'd say the only possible negative is the difference in arc/range among the cones, but since I'm a very mobile player and I find cones fun, I don't mind. I also don't mind the KB in Torrent, just be sure to use it last after you have Psy Scream and Tentacles (unless you are using it to get mobs away from you).

My main focus right now is a Dark/MM Blaster. She is Pam from True Blood!! Love the Vampire theme. Dark blast with the ability to do mind controls.

I am only lvl 21 and so far, soloing has been quite easy. I always start with knock back and then kill one by one. I can't wait until I have Life Drain. I've tried many Dark Blast in Corr and Mastermind and I like Blaster's version the best because I have Aim. The knock back can be annoying if I team with melee friends. Oh well, sucks to be them! :P


On a larger team, I may start with torrent, run in to use Drained Psyche and run back.

Kioshi, we seem to have similar taste in powerset combinations!


What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

I've been playing a Dark/MM/Elec and it's decent fun. It's middle of the road but it's a good combo. It's not the power house that a Fire/EM is nor is it a barrel bottom scraper like Psi/Dev.

Soft capped ranged defense makes the toon a power house. You can immobilize them with T_T, position them with Umbral Torrent then take them apart with Psi Scream and Static Discharge.

Mine is built for range only and having 2 long range holds and an non-interruptible heal is nice.

The only annoying thing about the combo is the differing range and widths on the cones. It's very hard to get them to mesh well even tweaking the range slotting. Activation times are a bit annoying on Psi Scream and Static Discharge but ranged defense can compensate nicely for that.

If you find the combination interesting I'd recommend that you test drive one for yourself.

Haven't made 1 my self, but after seeing a few posts about the combo i thought why not give it try , i like to plan my builds first before making them, here's the build i have so far,

Dark/anything is going to be one of the more viable blaster builds.

Life drain by itself makes that happen. Add in -to hit and a hold you have addressed some of the big blaster survivability problems just by taking that power set. Mental shores up its aoe nicely and gives you drain psyche.

My Dark/Mind just hit lvl 26. She's doing very good so far. Endurance is an issue because I use the aoe knockback in attack chain a lot. I like the knockback because bosses are easily knocked.

I've been thinking about the build and while it makes sense to add more +defense to the build, it seems like with Life Drain recharging at base 8s, I rather go for a mix of proc damage and +defense. I don't need 45% soft-cap.

Okay, I have been trying out new Blasters since I decided to Blast this year. 50'd (yet another) NrG/NrG earlier in the month, started working on a Fire/Nrg,and saw this thread. Started a Dark/Mental, and have gotten to 36 with some steady grinding. (Had company this weekend or I think I coulda 50'd) Holy Cone attacks! The only thing I do not like about it is closing to melee range for Drain Psyche. But it is so powerful that it has to be done, and 98% time the agro never reaches me for that offense. I personally like cones, and the attack chain is good. Also, having some KB in the set is something i like, it can be great mitigation. Not having KB be the only mitigation is also appreciated. This may be my new main, I have been grabbing the bank badges as I level, just in case I keep it.

I have a Dark/MM blaster named Countess Incarnadine that I'm liking so far in her teens. In theme, she's an immortal blood-mage, the last of her line because she ritually sacrificed the rest of her family for magical power and immortality. All her powers are colored red naturally. So far the one thing I don't like is Tenebrous Tentacles; the range is so short.

Especially since it's nice, reliable KB; none of that irritating "chance for KB" that always seems to fail when you need it and go off when you don't want it. If Umbral Torrent hits, it applies -kb.

I'm the crazy one of this group. I love mitigation but I'm not a fan of the kb power in the dark set. The toon still a great job and I can't wait till I pick up drain life as well. This toon makes me think that a Dark/NRGY would be also awesome.
