if you have the money(and the patience) to invest..shield will pay off just b/c of shield charge. also its not to hard to get the positional defenses
WP is so so SO much cheaper to IO, and has incredible survivability, but the way to slot elec melee and how you want WP tend to differ. WP benefits from higher hp/regen and typed defense whereas shield is all about recharge and positional defense.
if you want out-of-box definitely go /wp...i love my stone/wp brute more than any melee toon ive ever rolled in my 6+ years of play. i can farm at a decent pace and not really worry about dropping. if you can can stand to be good for nwo, and great later, go shield. its still one of the best farming sets out there, second only to fire nowadays depending on who you talk to -
imo, there are better options for doms...grav does ok on dmg but its control is somewhat lacking. wormhole is lots of fun but its got a long recharge and isnt too friendly for fast-faced teams.
grav will basically let you immob things permanently but they will still likely be fighting back. other sets generally just have more options and better forms of control.
i love concept toons and if you like the set go it. but you said you are also something of a min/maxer and grav will likely leave you slightly underwhelmed. grav/nrg can work well b/c its lots of ST damage but the control just isnt there..least not in my own definition of crowd control.
so yeah...unless you just really like grav control id look into other sets. as a dom you cant go wrong with /nrg(they ALL do well with it) -
what would you do? im just tryin to find a way for my main toon of the last several years to stay on par with my newer projects. its just troublesome b/c i know no amount of tweaking will make this a viable soloer. all my new stuff solos and tackles content like a hungry wolf but with this guy its just being chill

this is my spin on you build...moved some slots around and changed up some IO. one nice proc that went unmentioned was the chance for hold from gravitational anchor..put that in roots.
you lose some regen/hp but keep s/l softcap. also with one application of siphon speed you get permahasten

im inclined to agree. ss/fire is he most dmg and mu gets you 2 more aoe attacks. a close second is soul but only cuz its neg energy and darkest night makes life so much easier

this is my spin on your build...kept most everything similar, mostly moved some powers around. i improved overall end management and kept your s/l softcap. i also worked on rage so you can stack it to avoid the nasty -def effect when it wears off.
if you still much of an issue with end there's always the cardiac radial incarnate

im also gonna recommend stone. its true its aoe is lackluster but i picked up dark detonation from soul and i do just fine.
i love that i can tear thru bosses/EBs with my ST attacks and by the time they are dead my aoe attacks have probably eliminated most of the minions. i picked everything from stone except hurl boulder. i kept fists so my attack chain can be more fluid and i can keep my fury very high
the knockdown is also an amazing boost to my effectiveness. alternating fault and tremor most things barely get an attack in edgewise and thats assuming they resisted the stun. -
here's my take on all this...i skimmed most of your other thread and i agree DP is fun and functional, but not the best at anything.
i also lack a lvl 50 blaster, but the vast majority of my toons are support/ranged so im used to have little or res/def or mez prot
here's why i think people feel the effect of IOs more on blasters vs say scrappers...set bonuses as a whole improve overall survivability. melee classes already have a lot of this b/c of armor pools and mez protection. blasters can get some of via power pools and their APPs but without IOs they are still quite fragile.
getting those crazy high defenses to s/l/range on a AT thats generally has little/no sort of defenses makes the impact much higher.
ive seen this kind of improvement in my own toons. my 2 main are a stone/wp brute and elec/kin corr. the brute was soloing from day one..tanking with moderate IOS...and now with his finished build he's nigh invincible in all but the most extreme cases. the much more fragile corr did amazing dmg, had little mitigation...was always getting thrashed b/c everything hit..hard, not including getting mez-locked vs everything. adding various pools and LOTS of IOs ive softcapped his s/l and he has decent ranged def...its like playing an entire new toon b/c i no longer have to live in fear b/c i know if i can live thru the alpha im almost guaranteed victory. i pop inspirations occasionally..not like an addict -
with your current specifications(no purp/pvp) and your power selection i can get you permahasten and only 5sec downtime between PA. thats the best you can without purples. tho this will actually do just fine. in the long run replace a couple set with purples and you shave those last few seconds off
i did giggle slightly when i noticed 3 pools that include travel power but theres not one to be had in this build. i guess you are using ninja run

try this on for size...
-no purples
-permahasten
-around 35% s/l defense..pop a small purple and be softcapped for s/l. i went for a lot of defense b/c your role as empath is to be a support character. higher defense means you can avoid being the character who always need support
-improved most aspects of the build in general by focusing the set bonuses and kept most of your power choices
-fire mastery is good, but for support types ice is better. here's why..ice blast is just a good attack and will fit into a ST attack chain nicely when you arent gettin your empath on. frozen armor alone is good enough reason. defense power that has a steadfast unique nicely squeezed in. and im leaving the lvl 49 slot open so you can pick either hibernate or phase shift, whichever suits you better. hibernates to heal you faster in a nasty pinch or phase shift so you can safely ghost if there are things that see thru stealth

running arctic air and using stone melee can be hard on the blue bar but with careful slotting and a few procs your late-game experience will be worth the effort.
nice things about earth assault
-even with domination, power boost is win. good filler for when dom is down and you need a little extra kick
-mud pots...if you can stand to run its nice, but not really necessary. yes its some extra damage but the radius is crappy(less than a third of arctic air)
ice is all about soft control, but it can still very effectively control multiple mobs. stone is a popular and potent combo due to the extra knockdown and impressive ST damage, but ice assault is also very effective.
other good ones include fire or thorns. ice controls slows plus ice slick can keep things clumped together for thorntops and your aoes. fire is well..fire..its just awesome
even psy works out quite well b/c if you cant afford to get perma-dom to constantly refill your blue bar then drain psyche can fill that gap quite nicely, plus adding some respectable dmg
oh a few of basic ice dom tips..
-DO NOT frostbite the same mobs you use ice slick, that neuters slicks KD
-you can likely skip frostbite altogether later..if you have it now, by the time you get around to your first respec you could probably stand to drop it..this will also help your end issues
-flash freeze still sucks
-arctic air...slot it for lots of end reduction early game. for some added fun later i frankenslot mine using end red/confuse IOs & the procs from cacophony, malaise, and coersive. thats 2 dmg procs that go off constantly plus the confuse proc and an extra 7.5% end recovery!
-shiver is your friend. although arctic air alone(can you tell i love this power) should almost floor their recharge shiver is nice for those things out of melee range -
i think the build could run the farms solo..sure. all that debuff/mitigation plus the dmg, but it will take a little time to wittle everything down since most of your dmg is DoT.
you could safely farm but it wont be as speedy as other combos. -
imo you are severely reducing your effectiveness on teams and even for soloing.
boxing/kick are just not very effective dps even with the procs...but if you are just gonna use all those other powers for set bonuses you should really be looking into s/l or melee defense or maybe even s/l resistance to boost survivability.
xray/box/kick are fast to recharge anyways and since your own dmg will be much lower than that of other blasters you will need some kind of way to stay alive.
also from your current builds standpoint since you will only be using those 3 attacks i would try to have both boxing and kick before lvl 10 so you can have a decent attack chain.
while i love concept toons, i love being a notable contributor on teams more. maybe something like a MA scrap with sr or wp...then get body mastery for laser beam eyes. -
im partial to the elec/kin...its by far the most powerful and popular support-esque toon ive ever made. i softcapped my def to s/l so i could more safely wade into melee with the big dogs to get the most outta my buffs and blast with real lightning vs sparklers lol. sapping is a fun form of mitigation, even specced for dmg, i can drain anything that isnt an AV before it hits 50% hp. when short circuit was slotted for end mod i was dropping whole mobs to nothing in 1-2 shots, and opening with transference on the boss or the highest threat. but since you have played a kin before you know the awesomeness...just as a corr you can really feel like your dmg is worthit(and omg it is)
therm is definitely bot a good option if you dont wanna worry about buffing...people notice when they arent on fire, not including forge. i tell people straight up i will sb as i feel necessary, not according to their personal preference. people who give me crap dont get any sb simple as that.
traps is an amazing set. ive never played it myself but ive seen /traps corrs do some nasty nasty things to mobs, monsters, and even AVs...pairing elec will be fun and effective.
another quirky set to consider is trick arrow...it generally has a bad rap but i can say it amazing in the right hands. its pure, unadulterated debuffs..plus some extra mitigation AND the always amazing oil slick..which your elec blasts can light! i played a fire/ta to 50 and i was laughing the whole way b/c of the absolute aoe domination. the -def and -res debuffs will help with your inherently lower dmg attacks, while other arrows with be mezzing/slipping the mobs
any of these combos would be welcome for teams, but for soloing traps is leagues ahead of most others just from the FFG and its mez prot -
claw/wp will be a never-ending flurry of devastation once you get most all your toggles.
the basic must-have pools n such for a /wp brute are
-the the fight pool
-combat jumping(few extra def points for almost no end and easy lotg 7.5)
nifty but not needed
-leadership
nice thing about claws is that it takes very little recharge to fill up your attack chain even for low lvls. which also works well for /wp since it has zero use for rech. this means you can spend more looking for bonuses towards boosting TYPED(so smash/lethal/energy/etc..not melee/range/aoe) defenses..regen..and hp.
claws is ok for holding aggro is you can keep things in range of spin..but wp is very poor at holding aggro since it lacks a dmg aura.
good call with spiritual alpha..extra hp and regen ftw -
my stone/wp/soul brute uses cardiac radial atm primarily for the +dmg resistance. my attack chain was alrdy full plus some extra with what rech i picked up from LotGs and a couple other sets.
for anything elec/ id almost say spiritual tree wins by default...elec melee thrives of spamming TS and LR for its aoe dmg reputation and its survival...and boosting those heal/regen values is also a very nice bonus
ive yet to come up with a toon that will ever use muscular..hehe. even my elec/kin corr get more mileage from the nerve tree so i can softcap his s/l defenses and have a tiny bit of breathing room for -def debuffs. -
overall...very solid, if not expensive...only a few minor changes id make from my own experience on my stone/wp/soul
1)get that travel power earlier! if you ever exemp and lose that travel power you will want to kill youself
1.5)ill assume you were also a long-enough eveteran to be able to pick a travel w/o a pre-req
2)softcap is nice..but not absolutely essential, especially since you went soul. the -tohit and -dmg from darkest night is more potent than you may realize. id recommend playing around with some slots to maximize more of of your other powers' effectiveness. you can drop down to 35% and just pop a small purple to be so
this is my slightly tweaked version..tried reduce end costs across the board cuz rage crashes are bad enough but spamming KO blow and footstomp will eat your blue bar on top is even more unhealthy for the blue bar.
btw, i also highly recommend the cardiac radial incarnate...reducing end while boosting dmg resistance means i run all my toggles, and even with hasten i never get lower than 50%

Stonefather-stone/wp/soul...fun concept toon turned main
former scientist researching pollution in crey's folly(PRE-big boom)...gets trapped under mudslide and wakes up years later to find out not only is the world different, but so is he. he's a vigilante b/c he wants to sets things right, but knows that playing by the books only gets you so far..especially versus a group that has half a city on its payroll.
by far the most powerful and fun toon ive ever made(and thats A LOT..6+ year vet with raging altitis). i can run +4/8 and barely break a sweat versus most mobs. even many of the ones i should have trouble with(looking at you arachnos, devouring earth, and longbow..oh and the cimerorans) with some careful use of inspirations i can keep on smashing. -
this is my take on your build. i kept all the same powers but rearranged the order and many of the sets.
what mine does vs yours
-boosts global rech
-makes end much more manageable
-more exemplar friendly if you do that
-removed a couple procs you werent really benefiting from
-lower defense(tho not by much). but with all your -tohit i think you are still basically softcapped anyways, just pop a small purp and you hit the cap for s/l
-lower regen, but between your own heal plus fluffy you should really notice

ok...here's a rough version of something to shoot for and still have room for improvement
as you look here are my reasons based on my own stone/wp brutes experiences
-WP benefits from typed defense..so i shot for around 30% for f/c/e/n and only pulled 25 for s/l BUT once you get some extra money/merits/etc you can upgrade the smashing haymakers in punch/haymaker/KO blow for kinetic combats
-WP LOVES extra hp...it means higher regen..so i put numinas all over the place, kinda pricey but again its something worth investing in
-even with stones lack of aoe, i get better mileage from soul mastery...2 amazing attacks and darkest night is icing on the cake. all the extra -tohit really helps in the long run...and you even get a better pbaoe with foot stomp vs my tremor. i did try runnuing mu but i felt too compelled to try soul and it allows me to tank better
-i use lots of end...i have roughly 55% rech and i use a lot of heavy end attacks...i had few end issues by the time i finished his build(IE when i popped hasten for big fighs) but i used the cardiac radial for the extra -end and +dmg res...now i have unlimited energy and im tougher than ever. i figure with your rage crashes you may also like that particular incarnate
-you have perma-rage but i gave you hasten anyway..feel free to replace unless you just love it that much

My elec/kin corr solos quite well...and if i pay attention i can even farm at a very respectable pace

first of all...malk..your post disturbs me but in such a way that i like it
storm/energy is a very potent combo...all the KD is its own quirky form of mitigation, factoring in all the debuffs makes it more awesome. if they cant stand they cant attack or mez..itsa sound theory
but personally i think something like ice would better compliment the set..
here's how id solo almost anything.."herdicane" mobs then snowstorm+thunderclap+FR+ice storm..the proceed to summon tornado and LS to keep them in check assuming they arent dead while you spam your own attacks with lethal abandon
plus 2 holds for pesky mezzers and to keep a boss 'on ice'--see that i made an ice joke! -

its very busy(even w/o SBing full teams)
technically not as 'safe' as some sets
Things I dont like..
kins who think they cant solo--how many non-kin trollers farm?
kins who think they dont deserve their own buffs
And anyone who disses kinetics must just not be looking at it the right way. Ive played 5 kins to 50(tho none actually a def). Its fast-paced..flashy..and very colorful..and immensely potent in the right hands..the perfect set for someone with the attention span of an over-caffeinated ferret. Ive teamed with kin defenders who would wreck shop b/c they utilized their buffs to their best potential.This usually meant following the main tank can buffing from within the relative safety of his taunt radius...then unloading their aoes.
Most of my own experience was via a plant/kin toller--he farmed on his 2nd build-- and my favorite toon ever, an elec/kin corr. For both of their teams builds i took everything but repel. The corr could also farm with his team build--almost as fast as the troller i might add--...but that was mostly due to hitting s/l softcap and corrs are just amazing like that.
The corr also was an amazing sapper. If the team didnt need my own dmg output as much I focused more and my kinetic powers and occasionally threw out a ball lighting. But i always spammed short circuit...next to being dead as the ultimate debuff, things with no blue bar arent gonna do more than give you nasty glares
Defenders get better numbers on their buff/debuff/drain and get their powers sooner...Im not seeing a problem here...and now with new vigilance they get even better solo!
Id recommend rolling a secondary that compliments it like...
rad-that -def makes sure all your stuff hits plus some wicked aoes
psy-not usually resisted unless its specific mobs and also 2 nice aoes
elec-sapping guru and kin helps with the sets inherently lower dmg
